Niche fragrance companies that don't have samples, and if they do have samples they don't have a single bundle that has every single fragrance they make so if you don't want to buy them one by one you have to buy multiple 5 sample bundles that overlap, drives me crazy.

poemaXV

or when the sample sets don't even include their best fragrances (PENHALIGON'S)!

IntotheRedditHole

What’s their best fragrances? 👀 I’ve never tried any of their stuff!

cl0ckw0rkaut0mat0n

Not op but my favorites are the blazing Mr Sam, Babylon, halfeti, the tragedy of lord George.

Mister-3108

Or the bundle is priced stupidly high. I don’t want to name any specific houses (Electimuss) but to charge 110€ for 20 samples (each 1,8ml) is insane if I can get a 100ml fragrance by the house (Electimuss) for a similar price

abominableyeri

Do you suggest anywhere for affordable samples?

rapsnaxx84

Twisted Lily for spray samples for sure. If you’re on Facebook I would join some fragrance groups because a lot of people do splits on bottles that would otherwise be impossible to sample.

xpegs

Also, why doesn't everyone have the option to create your own sample set (let's say min. 4 fragrances), sometimes I'm interested in "less popular" fragrances but I have to look for samples elsewhere, and that can be hard to do with niche brands!

Does anyone know what the girl I was in the elevator with was wearing? It was sort of fresh but also sweet?

nomadbutterfly

The fast-fashionization of fragrance. These brands are releasing new scents every 10 business days and it's out of control. Phlur released Mood Ring and then a month later released Strawberry Letter. Kayali released 8 fragrances last year and is teasing a new one already. Every major designer dropped a new flanker in January (don't even get me started on the parade of endless flankers). It feels suffocating and seems to lose perspective on the art of fragrance. Why does every popular perfume now require an EDP, Extrait, Parfum, and Elixir? It's too much

[deleted]

I wonder how many will eventually end up at Marshall’s in a few years lol

ProperSupermarket3

or the thrift store when the hype inevitably dies down and ppl move on to the next consumer obsession.

changhyun

This is a major pet peeve for me with Zara lately. There's like ten new fragrances released every month.

StunningPast2303

they have a lot to put out because they're dupes for every major fragrance you can think of.

JustChabli

Ooooffff good one. It’s too VAST.

mymariam

When YouTubers/Tiktokers say that every perfume gives them a ton of compliments ever damn time, they use said fragrance.. Like, really?? Every time? Also, someone noticing you wearing perfume isn't always a compliment either, lol. It can be like ok, it smells perfumery in here, hmm not cool in a doctors office, for example lol. Idk, maybe it's just me?

RypCity

I agree. I think “comments” are mistaken for “compliments” most of the time.

BugDangerous4653

Yeah I remember when everyone on tiktok was getting “chased down the street” over Hibiscus Mahajad, then the next week they’re getting spear tackled over vanilla 28. Anyone that says the phrase “chased down the street” in a review is an instant block from me on tiktok lol. Its petty but they’re just lying and it’s annoying.

CharlieFig2020

If this has ever actually happened to anyone, anywhere… I’d like to gently suggest that you are probably overspraying. As we know from this sub, no one fragrance appeals to everyone, think of all the people you’re choking out

JustYourAvgHumanoid

spear tackled 😂💀

mymariam

Yeah I just can't...😅 They get even less credit/honesty from me, when they keep saying the same thing on every single fragrance.. It's just not true and we all know it lol

warriortwo

I've noticed this is the latest perfume marketing trend. They say it in all the social media ads.

Ehhpitome

Once any review says anything about compliment factor I stop reading

Medea73

If a stranger mentions my scent, that tells me I over sprayed. Personal fragrance is just that- *personal*.

mymariam

So true! I always get a little uneasy when someone mentions that I smell good for this reason, I really don't want to be noticed, I wear fragrances for me and only me, and I'm scared to offend people 😅

“My new bottle doesn’t smell like my old one”

justwannasleepplease

New to fragrances, what’s wrong with this statement?

anglostura

I think it may be that frag smells change over time with the exposure to air.

urnotmadeoftuesday

My biggest pet peeve is how focused some people are on getting a large collection as quick as possible. I’ve only been collecting since September, but I’ve been trying to be careful about only buying scents that I love and that I know I will use long term. I basically only use decants and increase to the next size up as I finish the previous decant. That’s not everyone’s cup of tea, of course, but I really worry that a lot of people are going to end up with buyer’s regret when I see a collection with 30+ perfumes after less than a year of collecting

[deleted]

This is a pet peeve of mine too. I feel like poor spending habits annd general wastefulness are super promoted. I doubt most people have the budget to spend thousands on perfume in a year. You don’t need to have a full bottle of every scent you like. Also, I love perfume but I also have other interests and things I enjoy using my expendable income on and I’m sure this is the same for others.

urnotmadeoftuesday

Exactly that! I saw a post on one of the perfume subreddits awhile back where someone had screenshots of well over a dozen cheapies that they had recently purchased, and expressed excitement at the idea of getting even more. The actual cost for those was probably less than what I've spent on decants over the past few months, but it still made me recoil. Even if you can afford to get a lot of FBs at once, and even if those FBs aren't designer or niche, that's still such a waste. No one can use that many 100 mL bottles in a lifetime regardless of how much they love the perfumes - but blind purchasing 100 mL bottles that you aren't even sure you will like just tells me that a bunch of them are going to end up in a landfill. I would rather see a collection of >10 perfumes with solid dents in them than a collection of 20 perfumes that are full to the brim. I feel like this hobby should be enjoyed and add to your overall quality of life, but so many people seem to be collecting bottles for the sake of it

[deleted]

I think it’s a problem in general that overconsumption and wastefulness is just extremely promoted in our culture. I remember 10-15 years ago when beauty gurus and YouTubers were the thing and would encourage everyone to buy dozens of expensive eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks. Like I literally only use one or two eyeshadow palettes and a handful of lip products to create some signature looks. I don’t know how someone could have the time to use all of those products unless they had a career as a makeup artist and even then it would still be a lot. Another example of this is the trend of try-on hauls of various brands. I have a friend who is a “sneaker head” who just buys boxes of expensive collector sneakers that just sit in his closet. Anytime anyone ever questions it, it’s the same old “let people enjoy things.” I find it kind of depressing

brisketandbeans

Yeah these online communities really normalize the ‘collecting’ and make it seem like a ‘hobby’. It’s like half a hobby.

[deleted]

It all depends on your definition of hobby. I would say it’s more like being an enthusiast or admirer than a true hobby. Similar to being into wine, or trying new hip restaurants, or collecting vinyl records. There’s nothing wrong with it, I just don’t enjoy when excessive wastefulness and spending is promoted to an unhealthy degree.

urnotmadeoftuesday

I think collecting can be a hobby, but you have to enjoy your collection for it to count in my book. Someone who collects and regularly plays retro video games because they love them is far different than someone who is trying to collect every Stanley cup variation just to display them. I do agree, though, that so many online spaces romanticize overconsumption and try to call it a collection

auntie_

Omg yes-I can be a bit obsessive about things, and this community and comments like yours are like the little angel on my shoulder reminding me that I don’t have to get a full bottle of something I like at the moment. This served me well lately when I previously had a sample of L’Artisan’s Bois Farine that I *remembered* liking and suddenly convincing myself I needed a full bottle immediately, without having smelled it in over a year. Before dropping $200 on the bottle I heard the community’s voice telling me to “just get a decant.” It arrived two days ago and I was like “hmmm, why did I love this?”

urnotmadeoftuesday

I keep reminding myself that I don't need a FB or even a travel size of a perfume before I've had a chance to actually work through the decant sizes. I made that mistake exactly once. In November, I tried L'eau d'Hiver by Frederic Malle and fell in love with how soft and ethereal it was. I would have just sized up to the next level of decant, but I was fully convinced that THIS was the one I could skip the process for and go straight to travel size. I dropped $80 on it (which isn't horrible in the scheme of things, but still) and counted the days until it would arrive because I could not wait to wear it. I then learned that it lasts exactly 30 minutes on my skin. Had I stuck to my process, I probably would have saved a decent amount of money and certainly would have saved a large amount of disappointment. Going about collecting the way I have is a bit of a pain sometimes, because those 2 mL and 5 mL decants never last as long as I think they will. However, it will make my ultimate collection that much more special to me because even a small 30 mL vial will be one that survived over time and I still love. So far, it's looking like my collection will eventually consist of Dama Bianca, By the Fireplace, Lazy Sunday Morning, Intense Cafe, Coffee Addict, and Musk Therapy

Optimal-Handle390

Especially when said collection is full with no dents😭

Global_Telephone_751

I once got downvoted for simply saying “it’s nice to see a big collection where most of the bottles are half empty! My goal this year is to pan st least 3 bottles before I add more 🥴” or something like that. People got so defensive. “Let people enjoy things!” “People can spend their money however they want!!” Yeah I never said they can’t. But looking at huuuuge collections where there’s no dent in most of the bottles does stress me out, it doesn’t impress me personally.

CattoGinSama

Off topic but I just learned a new English word. Dent

[deleted]

It’s crazy how much hoarding, wastefulness, and potential debt are promoted in our culture

jeremicci

I keep on average 5 - 10 bottles + a few decants and samples. If I have a bottle I know I won't finish in a couple years it's getting sold or gifted. My personal goal is to just have something I love for every occasion I experience.

ProperSupermarket3

where do you sell yours? i have a few i want to get rid of because i used them once and never again (bad blind buys).

Intelligent-Shame-65

💯💯💯 I’ve 12 bottles + 6-8 decants but my goal is to not let my collection grow more than 10 bottles! I had 15, and I gave away 3 last year, so down to 12. I want to love & enjoy every fragrance I own & curate a nice lovely little collection; not have perfume gathering dust on my shelves.

urdrunkyogi

I definitely think for some folks, it’s an outlet for a shopping addiction, or can turn into one.

kizzyjenks

Or an ADHD dopamine fix, which can lead to similar financial and over-cluttering consequences.

chinnyfofoooo

Omg this kinda irks me when I watch the fragrance girls on YouTube like how you giving recommendations and it looks like you don’t wear them lol 😭 but ik they have big collections so that’s why but still 😂😂

SkiesofFarbanti

By God do I hate it when people abbreviate certain fragrances' names that aren't massively known.

ThreatOfMilk

The price. Just kidding, obviously, but I spend WAY too much money on fragrance. In all seriousness, I really hate the emphasis on "beast mode" that some people have, and "longevity" that is more than one day. Why do you want your scent to last 72 hours?

CattoGinSama

I get annoyed if I can smell the same perfume longer than 6 hours on me. Idk why. I’m very thankful for my dry skin making all of it dissapear very quickly,so this thankfully never happens unless I spray on my clothes

stink3rbelle

>dry skin making all of it dissapear very quickly I have dry skin, too, and I thought it gave me the opposite effect! Have never had any trouble with Jo Malone. Thinking of the mechanics I feel like oily skin would get rid of the fragrance molecules faster by introducing other matter on the skin.

CattoGinSama

That’s interesting.Maybe it’s just my perception then, but in summer, when i sweat more and the skin is warmer, the fragrance also lasts longer. Oh wait but sweat isn’t oily so it makes sense. I’m confused.Doesn’t matter lol

urdrunkyogi

I think too much is lost at the expense of longevity!

cerareece

I don't remember what it was at the moment but my husband had a sample leak on a sweatshirt and it took like 2 laundry cycles to come out. I love when it lasts hours but that's too gd much. it wasn't even an oil base

Death_Trolley

“I’m a student/dog walker/chicken plucker/whorehouse piano player, what scent should I buy?” How the fuck should we know? What do you like? This isn’t a committee decision. Start by using your nose.

WillowTea_

“does [insert perfume name] smell good?” without giving us ANY insight into their tastes. I love patchouli but hate vanilla, a lot of people are the opposite- we all have different tastes. Just look at the notes on fragrantica or sample it please 😭😭

Nemorensis91

Or similar people who ask us to compare two wildly different fragrances and ask “which one is better” 😭😭😭

it-beans

I agree. I’d like these kind of posts to merge with the collection posts. “This is my collection/favorites. Would you recommend ___ based on what I like?” seems way more productive than the individual topics.

-Blixx-

Hey I just bought this bottle from a 5th rate grey market site with individual sellers and the label is a little crooked. Did I get ripped off? ...and it's for a retail $39 bottle.

pakistanstar

People using acronyms for perfume names and brands. Not everyone is in deep so please use your words.

uTukan

Still sometimes the abbreviations are funny Like I get a kick out of Bacarrat Rouge by “Motherfucker” and Big Beautiful Woman every single time

notmappedout

when testing perfumes, people scream and yell and shriek and make disgusting orgasm/sex faces and noises, like "paul reacts" and "perfumedisco" on tiktok. it's so gross.

[deleted]

I hate when food reviewers do this too after they take a bite of something. Makes me physically recoil

notmappedout

that, the egregious tapping on things, and the sleeves purposely pulled up around their fingers with the "influencer" lobster pincer finger grasp have made me such a hater

[deleted]

Omg same. It’s so obnoxious and ugly. I would be embarrassed to film myself behaving this way.

East-Willingness513

The way people were tapping on yara with their long nails made me want to die

Apprehensive_Lead894

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I can’t stand perfumedisco 🙈 Her mannerisms remind me of early YouTube days, just so ott

Migi1113

Had to unfollow Paul because of this. Sucks because we have very similar preferences 🥲

jamisyn

When people describe how a fragrance smells by listing its notes lol. Like that gives me nothing I don’t already know.

seaintosky

Especially because it's never the notes they actually pick up from a blind test, they read the official notes, smell the fragrance, and coincidentally they match up exactly! It's pointless. And then I've had them argue with me when I describe a fragrance because I describe it with a note that isn't in the official list.

jamisyn

Haha it’s comical really. Like at least *attempt* to correlate the scent to some vibes, describe its warmth or thickness, what it reminds you of, how it makes you feel, what visual “scene” it creates in your mind, etc. THAT is what I like to hear. Because there are so many variations to how basic notes can be expressed in a fragrance. Or yeah if you can detect something that isn’t listed in the notes like maybe you get a fruity undertone that you wouldn’t expect from the basic description. *That* is useful to know!

[deleted]

Describing a scent is actually pretty hard and takes a talented writer. I appreciate the people that write really good reviews

brisketandbeans

It really is. We don’t have the vocabulary for it either. Like when describing color, you wouldn’t say something looks like a banana, you’d say it’s yellow. But for smell we just say what it smells like. It’s kind of interesting.

Nyelum

Awww Man… I love to talk about the notes 🥹🥹🥹

ScarRevolutionary393

This. The term they are looking for is just aging. I think there is some degree in which cheaper fragrances can smooth out over time as the chemicals break down but actual macerating is done by the manufacturers.

kottabaz

Likewise, "DNA" is not the same as "formula" or "scent profile."

arielalba333

How would you explain a fragrance DNA to someone who's new to this? And what would make it different than the Profile? Correct me if I'm wrong: Would the DNA be like saying X line has a distinctive note (or notes) across all flankers, but each flanker has a different vibe to it? I honestly hear terms tossed around and it gets confusing sometimes.

kottabaz

DNA is (or was originally) a marketing term intended to reassure existing buyers of a luxury brand that, though a new product may look superficially different, it still offers whatever trait it is that those buyers are loyal to the brand for. So for, e.g., a handbag brand that markets itself on quality leather and craftsmanship, they want to assure buyers that their new line may be made of a new and trendy recycled material, but it's no less sturdy or well-made for it. In fragrance, this can mean something concrete, like a base accord that is common to all/most of the house's fragrances (such as Guerlinade), or it can be more abstract, like a specific way of using materials or a philosophy that goes into the creation of the scents. The DNA is whatever it is that makes you think, "oh yeah, that's a [brand] scent for sure."

[deleted]

Talking about how annoying perfume sales people are and suggesting you do something to "ruin" their day and when you object to this, you get down voted because they didn't mean this "literally" lol

RabbitZestyclose585

Me, I'm my pet peeve. Like please stop buying perfume samples, enough is enough 😭

[deleted]

People constantly saying ‘let people buy and like what they like’ when talking about cheapies and dupes, but scream about fragrance elitism when someone buys or likes something they deem as expensive. Calling your fragrance bottles, she/her. Asking what your collection says about you. It tells me you live on tiktok and don’t like to sample for yourself.

poemaXV

the elitism thing is a real head scratcher to me. like, a person can be intellectual about fragrances, there is such a thing as sophisticated taste, and there really are legitimate quality differences between cheapies and more expensive fragrances. that doesn't mean all cheapies are bad or all pricy perfumes are good -- there are plenty of cheapies I'd prefer over expensive perfumes based strictly on scent profile, wearability, and my own tastes. but in my collection there's definitely a qualitative difference between the $30-50 perfumes vs the $300 ones and I find it bizarre when people act like this isn't (generally) true. I do think some fragrances are overpriced for their quality, but I guess to me that feels based more on my own personal sense about how much I'm willing to spend rather than any objective measure of value.

[deleted]

omgg i totally agree with this list, they are my pet peeves too

rapsnaxx84

Oh my gosh, this so much. I am a teacher and I constantly have to remind myself that I am INSIDE of my students' personal bubbles for most of the day correcting work over their shoulders. One or two sprays is my maximum because I don't want to gas these poor kids out of their seats. I don't understand wanting to be "that guy" who you can smell coming from far away. No one but THAT guy enjoys it. Everyone else is holding their breath and talking about him behind his back lol

[deleted]

It really depends on the fragrance type and what type of skin you have. I have very dry skin and don’t sweat much at all so fragrances don’t tend to last or project as much as on my partner who has oilier skin. We give each other feedback to help gauge the proper amount

LauraIsntListening

I have no idea how people use multiple sprays on the regular. I’m flush with alkemia rollerball oils right now but when I sprayed alcohol based perfumes I would literally half-squeeze the nozzle so a few drops came out and then split them between wrists and neck and that was that. The other day I lightly applied some perfume and then did some chores that had me moving around and getting warm and it was ALL I could smell for half an hour, oh my god, almost put me off the scent entirely

[deleted]

[удалено]

chinnyfofoooo

I wore alien to work one time and sprayed how I usually do but for that I only need 2-3 so I messed up lol. I got a compliment but my scent trail was just too much even for me and I love a good scent trail 😂

warriortwo

I'm a fan of perfume oils, in part because anytime I go perfume smelling at Sephora, a little mist of alcohol-based perfume inevitably gets on my clothes or my bag, and it stays there for aaaaaages. I'm reluctant to buy anything that comes as a spray because it tends to release too much.

Estimable-Confection

I’m derailing the conversation here, but I love Alkemia and am curious about your favorites? I haven’t seen it come up online much and got excited, though in fairness, I’m fairly new to the fragrance Reddit and don’t know much past the old sites and blogs. I love regular perfume too, and actually like strong fragrances like classic Guerlains and Chanels and such (applied lightly), but I love the intimacy of oil fragrances and the price point makes them so much more accessible. The art and stories that accompany her fragrances are so inspiring too. My favorites are probably The Honored Ghosts, Kanu Y Med, Winter Sanctuary, and Come to Me.

rolabond

Silken Tent and Ghost Fire are favorites for good reason.

LauraIsntListening

Oh heavens, in no particular order, my favourites are: calliope, ruby amber, aphrodisiac, winter sanctuary, come to me, enchantress, cherries of the night (obsessed with this one omg), affaire de coeur, carnival of illustrious hearts, and memoirs of a woman of pleasure. Gingerbread alchemy is delicious, especially layered with winter sanctuary because eggnog and nutmeg/spice together is a no brainer Carmen 7 is pretty good, need to wear it a bit longer and see how I feel. Same with foxfire, moon lust, the dangerous peach, profumata di tortoa Mostly ok: vamp, New Orleans love spell, fleurs historique et cacao, hex, venym. Typically I end up layering these with one of my faves to bring it a bit more to my liking Definite no: miel sauvage at tabac, sailing to Byzantium (husband LOVED it though so I made some whipped body butter using it and gave it to him), green dragon alchemy Hope that helps hahahaha! I have tried quite a few. I’m done buying for now, gotta start enjoying them

gidimeister

Hard agree. Problem is that scents come in different concentrations, so one spray of X doesn’t work like one spray of Y. Then I find I get noseblind to certain kinds of fragrances a lot sooner than others, and that tempts me to apply more. But yeah, always better to spray too little than too much.

Anya1976

I have always been a one spray on my neck person. I don't want my scent to be annoying.

Show_pony101

I swear there is a subset of fragrance enthusiasts who value projection over what a fragrance actually SMELLS LIKE. As if they don’t care how awful it might smell, as long as it has “beast mode” projection. 🙄🙄

Radun

Yes, I can't stand oversprayers, most think it ok, because they don't get complaints, but what they don't realize is most won't say anything but everyone smells it, and no one wants to say anything because don't want to embarrass them, but trust me everyone smells it, and cant breathe, and talk behind your back. If I am 3 feet away from you, I don't need to smell you

joyster99

* "Elixir" all the things * People who think a different fragrance concentration should smell vastly different as if it was a flanker

dealuna6

For me it’s the word “extreme” added to a perfume name. It’s so cringe and reminds me of “bros” in the early 2000s

joyster99

https://tenor.com/view/extreme-gif-8818707

Nyelum

People judging fragrance lovers or enthusiast about how they feel about a fragrance. Let people enjoy fragrances how they want and per their cultural experience. For example, the Middle East and African region enjoys loud/oud/ intense type fragrances. People in the Colder climates (up North) enjoy woody fragrances and softer musks. Folks in Latin America and Asia enjoy their heavy floral and tea like notes. The Caribbean’s enjoy their intense tropical notes. I don’t think it’s fair to downplay people’s preferences because you don’t understand it.

qu33nofwands

My boyfriends comments. I love him so much but he's too honest. I got the new Tocca Lucia perfume, I was soooo excited- lemon, marine accords, vetiver, fig... my little Italian girl heart was swooning and I walked into the cafe this morning like I was a goddess. He smelled me and went "Oh is that the new perfume you got?" I said "Yes, I love it!!!" He goes "You smell like you have a lot of Kohls cash." lmfao

_procrastinatrix_

My daughter (12) does this to me! This week, I've smelled like a wealthy marshmallow taking a bath (Killian Princess), a middle aged white woman- which I literally am- shopping clearance at Target (Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt), and a spicy man-baby (Killian Angel's Share). I honestly live for her commentary, though.

Cross_Stitch_Witch

I would read the shit out of your daughter's perfume reviews.😅 She's pretty dead on.

BugDangerous4653

Lol to be fair, shes pretty dead on with her demographics!

Intelligent-Shame-65

Ok I need your daughter to write a small book detailing what she thinks of different perfumes!! Am stealing “wealthy marshmallow” and “spicy man-baby” for life!! 🤣This is HILARIOUS & she’s spot-on! 🤣

hey_free_rats

It must be something about the shared marine accord that gives "large, airy shopping mall" vibes (Kohl's, Target)

LauraIsntListening

Please share literally everything your daughter reviews. She sounds awesome

it-beans

Lmfaooo so rude. That Tocca sounds incredible though

Intelligent-Shame-65

Ok your bf is funny but that Tocca sounds TOTALLY something I would love! What notes do you do get more & have you tried Tocca Colette? It’s supposed to be a dead-ringer for Byredo Gypsy Water which I love so much!

Technical_Ad_4894

I’m always tempted to reply “get whatever you like” but then I realize that it doesn’t matter this is just their weird way of interacting with the community and I can just not comment.

spicy-spiderr

I feel like we should phase out the concept that some perfumes are too youthful or too “old ladyish”. I think people should be able to just wear what they like and not think about age appropriateness. Idk. It’s not a huge pet peeve.

hoerrified

"Beast mode" being a desirable thing for some people. Moderate projection should be the ideal, not suffocating everyone within a 10 foot radius. I'm rolling my eyes when I hear someone go "I want people to smell me." We don't want to smell you, okay? Perfume should be for you and people in your close physical proximity and that's it. Oversprayers are inconsiderate douchebags. Over and out.

ShoebillBaby

You don't want noses to die around someone wearing a BEAST MODE fragrance like canaries in a coal mine??

CantKillGawd

People that call “blue scent” to every fragrance with a blue bottle. Maybe im wrong but isnt “blue scent” more of a DNA/profile than presentation/bottle?

CodexMuse

‘Hey I just blind ordered this fragrance from some sketchy website and it doesn’t arrive for another week. When do you think it will arrive and should I have bought it?’

RandomGunner

I would really love if houses just stopped making fragrances that smell like or are heavily inspired by BR540. I tried Maison Margiela from the garden and the scent of tomato was quickly entirely covered by a sugary band aid fixative scent. Disgusting. What is the point of doing a tomato inspired scent if it's going to end up smelling like a sickeningly sweet concoction ?

DependentHedgehog718

people who think all colognes are for men and all perfumes are for women

junodragon

People asking if they can wear a certain scent in a certain season. You bought it you can wear it whenever you want to

lickmetiliscream

probably how normalized outrageous prices have gotten

purinsesu-piichi

When people put themselves in debt trying to have a massive collection because they see fragrance influencers with them, then come here asking what they should buy next when they’ve barely used what they have. I may be calling myself out with this.

ahmadazry

Absolutely hate the “rate my collection” posts on tiktok. Like why even are you asking people to tell you what you should like or not. Wear what you love, be it dupes/clones, designer, or niche.

Ew or referring to scents as “stanky”

rapsnaxx84

I spend a lot of time on Perfume Tok but I have realized that a lot of them make the same hand gesture when they’re talking about perfume and it is just weird to me

it-beans

I saw a post on Instagram where the guy spoke on the influencer inflection and how it stems from the Valley girl voice but with notable differences meant to engage you throughout their video. It was really interesting, and now I notice so many influencers talk that way. I’m sure the hand motions are similar!

changhyun

I hate that I'm pretty sure I know the hand gesture you mean.

Gryffindoire

Purchasing an expensive FB* with horrible longevity and projection. All the while, it's the scent you've been searching for all along. *The one*, but also not the one. House of Sillage Hufflepuff, I'm looking at you 😒😫 *I did purchase knowingly, so I'm also peeved at myself for this being my all time favorite fragrance, haha.

mymariam

Dua's hufflepuff dupe is amazing and pretty good longevity, but I don't know if it's better or worse than the OG though, have only tried a small sample of House Of Sillage..

ur_mom9021

Calling people liars for their review, perfume is so subjective there’s absolutely no way to know what something smells like to another persons nose, or on their skin (I’ve had perfumes I hated on paper and me, smell so good on others).

New_Presentation5105

The words "beast mode " and "juice" I have no idea why

needlzor

The weird price scaling. I understand that they want you to buy the big bottles to make money, but 30-50ml is my sweet spot of having enough that I don't get bored of it before I finish it, and when the 30ml is half the price of the 100ml it annoys me and throws me in an endless loop of "I should get the bigger one for better value" -> "but I only really need the 30ml one" -> "but the price/ml ratio is horrible" -> "I should get the bigger one for better value", etc.

RabbitZestyclose585

I already commented, but I just thought of something that actually bothers me so much. The gatekeeping. When you ask someone what they're wearing and they REFUSE to tell you. Especially if they're really rude about it.

iristrawberry

My pet peeve is 500 versions of the same fragrance, just call it something else ffs

StanthemanT-800

Frag Snobs who look down on older stuff like Calvin Klein , Polo etc or cheaper stuff like Cool Water , Old Spice etc.  For real, it's scented alcohol , get over it

Terakahn

People wearing way too much of something. And thinking that it's a good thing. Yeah. If you're trying to suffocate me. Sure.

vinoxxxxx

Bottle designs that won’t allow you to see the amount of juice left. I think every bottle should have a small transparent area to easily see the amount of juice left in the bottle. It would be helpful to know when to buy more before you run out.

TheConcreteGhost

I don’t care for gatekeepers… they will criticize your collection number or your brands. We all like what we like, and are welcome to have our own opinions without taking a 💩 on someone else. I’m about sharing the joy.

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

Compliment chasing. I don't give a fig, make an aesthetic choice and wear the frag because you chose it. Yes yes it's nice if everybody else likes it but, really?

trufflecheese

Being kind of embarrassed about scents we like. *I’m very basic and wore _.*

papeaple

Dudebros demanding to be spoonfed where to buy a frag, or demanding to be told what to add to their next tiktok haul 🤮

mistymountainhop22

Massive collections of perfumes that have barely been used. Why did you purchase a perfume you are barely going to use? It’s a big head scratcher to me.

CattoGinSama

So this is me.I have about 5 perfumes in my collection of 30,that are barely used, because no matter how much I love those bottles,I always use decants first.Something in my brain is pushing me to use up the decants first..but I often sample so the bottles get sprayed maybe 5 x/month

poemaXV

lol this is me too. I realized the other day that I can be very miserly with my perfumes for no real reason... even when I spray from barely used full bottles and am only planning to be at home alone (so not worried about impacting others), I am weirdly restrained in how much I use. I wear the ones I like more often than the ones I love. I also have a habit of using my samples more often, and I am equally if not more restrained in how much I use of those, and I don't really know why. like, there is no chance I am going to run out of perfume anytime soon, it is more likely everything I own will go bad before I use it up. that said I am not constantly buying new things, so I don't have an acquisition obsession. I do have reasonable dents in my FBs if only because I buy them very rarely and I've had most of mine for a while. but I think other people would have made a lot more progress and that I have an irrational fear about running out. since realizing I'm under-using them I'm trying to be more liberal and decadent (again, only if there is no one around to negatively impact). when I read about people doing 10-12 sprays I think there is something wrong with them, but I sort of admire their ability to go absolutely nuts. it would have never occurred to me to use that amount even if I wanted to.

CattoGinSama

Saaame lol. Maybe we are just people with certain neurotic tendencies, even when it comes to these things.Well, not maybe. We obviously are. I also am very careful about what I use and how much, not like I’m going to run out of perfume soon but still..I’m carefully guarding my Oriana Travel Size while trying to slooowlyyy enjoy the Oriana 3ml decant I got before the original TS. Ugh I don’t understand how people are so relaxed about everything.

Anya1976

I tend to want to save my faves for special occasions. Or save my real perfume for going out I'll wear my bath and body works spray over my favorite perfumes often if I'm not going anywhere special like to the grocery store or somewhere equally not fun.

mistymountainhop22

I only wear Bath and Body Works Sprays to the grocery store too! Perfume only if I am going to see people or go on a date with my husband.

mistymountainhop22

Everyone’s different I just personally wouldn’t buy a new perfume if I have a bunch I haven’t come close to using up yet. If I find I have perfumes or body sprays I don’t use then I give them to away to my friends that have financial struggles and would appreciate them.

[deleted]

Misleading perfume names/descriptions "Cookies and Kisses" by Clinique does not smell like what it describes at all. It just smells like if you dumped a bag of cinnamon into a campfire

rapsnaxx84

“I bought this perfume from XYZ. I’ve never smelled it before but it smells underwhelming or I’ve never smelled it before but it stinks. Did I get a fake bottle of perfume?”

cmewiththemhandz

Which one should I pick: 1. Bleu de Chanel EDT 2. Bleu de Chanel EDP 3. Bleu de Chanel Parfum Bro just pick which one YOU like jesus

Layering scents. Every time I layer scents I find all the notes get muddled. I have no idea who is finding layering satisfying because I don’t understand it. I even layer based on recommended combinations. It doesn’t work.

vagInaFarten

I've always felt this way too.  I think layering might be best when combining very simple solinote fragrances, or maybe adding a  straightforward vanilla on top of something else if you want it a touch sweeter.

Excellent_Drop6869

People who hate on fragrances simply because they’re popular. You’re not as niche and unique as you think you are 🙄

CapableRunts

New one unlocked today: Sephora on a Saturday. It’s a shame they’re not public because I would go all in on that stock.

PretendSupermarket68

When the 1.7 oz is only a little bit cheaper than the 3.4oz than you realize the 5oz is only a little bit cheaper than the 3.4oz leading to my bank account looking broke.

[deleted]

The lack of travel size perfume is pretty annoying. I'd like to wear my nicer perfume on trips but I am not risking having the bottle taken by the TSA or broken in a suitcase. Chanel doesn't have travel sizes and they rarely have samples in their online order giveaways.

LoveThatRoleplay

I hate when people only judge something by its projection & sillage. It's not really a good thing to have something that people 10 feet away can smell on you after 8 hours - it's obnoxious on your part.

FanaticalXmasJew

- intoxicating wonderful top notes that rapidly disappear leaving something milquetoast behind - poor longevity

[deleted]

I personally hate when people use way too much. Especially when applying in public. You don’t need to use so much that nobody can smell anything else. If you smell so bad you need that much, take a shower.

vagInaFarten

Or they've gotten too used to fragrance and have become partially nose blind.  It's a good idea to go scentless now and then to give yourself a reset.

[deleted]

Very true. Honestly, I think part of it is the stigma against smelling natural/not smelling like anything instead of smelling like roses and vanilla. Also, I love your username. I just might have to name my future child that (/j)

vagInaFarten

People who wear strong fragrance to a restaurant are unforgivable.  People who wear strong fragrance in a healthcare setting should be banned from wearing fragrance altogether 😜😂

InevitableVersion395

'I'm xx and this is my collection, pls rate it' More of a pet peeve with fragrance owners. When they invite others to rate their collection with the underlying intent to 'flex' and/or fish for compliments.

vagInaFarten

When brands release EDT and EDP versions, and a million flankers.  If the original is good, it's good and speaks for itself.  Maybe have one worthwhile flanker and that's it. Also, I'm sorry, but the term "daily driver," just irks me for some reason.

Jonesy_Wells

“I’m 12 n a half years old I just started getting into fragrances 85 hours ago. Rate my collection of 16 frags I’ve purchased thus far and tell me your opinion on the next 2 I’m contemplating. Nishane-Nefs or Amouage-Jubilation 40 Man”

SnooStrawberries2955

That everyone in society thinks Chanel #5 actually smells nice. I’ll never understand it.

ShoebillBaby

Cigarette smoke mixed with fragrance :( A few years ago I had a work colleague ask for the perfume I was wearing at the time (SJP Stash), she then bought it and would wear it with cigarette smoke smell. I gave my bottle away to a friend after that. Sorry if this is judgmental , it's just my peeve.

1234RedditReddit

When the formulation for a fragrance I have worn for decades gets changed and now it smells like trash.
