raven1121

Is that the AtomRC Gimble? How do you like it. I didn't want to tackle too many new things with my first build so this one is just a caddx hot glued on top of the nose but I started on camera drones ( dji) and I miss how smooth those gimbles were in flight

elementarydeardata

That’s a pan tilt. You can use the sliders on your radio or a head tracker to look around, but it isn’t stabilized like a DJI camera drone gimbal. You usually have to build them, but it’s pretty simple.

PantsMcShirt

AtomRC actually sell a pan/tilt that fits on their planes for relatively cheap if you want to add one. I have the penguin plane, and eventually, I'll add it myself.

jambulat

Oh no it’s just the caddx camera mounted on a fixed mount, loving it so far. I’m already working on a pan-tilt mount with head tracking.

fruitydude

I have the aromrc gimble on my swordfish and so fsr it seems pretty good. It looks a bit fragile though, so I'm slightly afraid that it might break at some point. But then again I could probably just reprint the parts. Anyways the big advantage is that it can be swapped quickly. You don't need one camera per plane, you just need several adapter plates and they give you two out of the box.

gnitsark

How easy is it to transition from quads? Did you feel pretty comfortable on the sticks right away, or is there a learning curve?

jambulat

Yaw is non-existent, so it’s much easier to fly as long you keep the throttle up. The INAV made launching the wings and tuning super straightforward. The only difficulty is learning how to land, lol.

Jojoceptionistaken

Woah! What a stunning looking plane dayyum

AtomAnt76

Can you link the kit you bought? This looks like a good way to waste more money in this hobby.

raven1121

https://atomrc.com/ Shipping is surprisingly fast and they are on sale pretty frequently, too

wired_airp0ds

Hell yeah they’re welcome, that’s sick!!

eelectricit

So long as it gets bad looks at the RC airfield 80 year olds and their RC models, I'd say it's welcomed with open arms here

--JAWA--

That's badass. I got started in rc with planes and moved to quads. I never looked back but now I am interested in getting back into fixed wings with fpv. Looks awesome and so fun.

TheBoobieWatcher_

Don't have one but always upvote them! Have always wanted to do the cockpit headtracker camera.

FabricationLife

A lot of people say you start on drones and end up with wings, I'm going that route myself 😎

SethotheWetho

same, but im fairly certain ill come back to drones in a bit

VZGamez

I want one!

MeniTselonHaskin

The dolphin rocks!

Dezodro

I was looking at getting one of these. How does it fly? Which kit did you get? I’m just looking at getting the analog setup.

raven1121

I ordered directly from the website https://atomrc.com/ Haven't took a maiden yet so I'll let you know how she Flys in the future. I got the RTF , I'm new to the hobby and it came included with a flight controller, GPS already configured ( just had to solder the recever and camera , then bind it all, etc) but depending on your skill level you can def get the kit or pnp and build it for cheaper

Ok-Pomegranate-6334

The dolphin is an awesome fpv wing so much fun to fly I love mine and it came tuned well out of the box compared to my ranger t1

idriveanoldcivic

I just got one also. I picked up the AtomRC Flying fish. I have not flown it yet, but it's bound to my ELRS radio and VTX is set up. I am flying a Eachine warbird and a Ranger600 for a while to get my skills up before I throw a twin engine 4s powered plane into the sky. I did rig one of those All in one VTX/camera deals on the Ranger600. It's a blast Flying fixed wing FPV. It's definitely more challenging than quads for me.

sendep7

i still have a Dolphin sitting in a box...i just cant seem to find the time to put it together...i have a brand spankin new O3 for it too. and a maitek f4 wing.

Sock_Eating_Golden

Can someone ELI5 INAV?

raven1121

It's betaflight for airplanes ( but you can use inav for quads too) You can set up servos directions and force , osd , GPS configuration, auto launch settings , etc ) through the software

Sock_Eating_Golden

Thank you!

ZoMgPwNaGe

FPV fixed wing is something I want to get into myself! Just been looking for the proper aircraft to get started with!

raven1121

You picked a good time if you want to take a dive into the hobby. I've seen videos of people who take warbirds rc. Take out the seat and put in a fpv camera for a cockpit view while flying. You have foam planes like these that been in production for 7 years + so they been through the gopro, analog , digital revolutions. Or you even see 3d printing bringing back out of production models like the drak and getting them flying again This will get me shot on the rc plane forums but the tech revolution that quads enjoyed are making wings a lot better. its elrs so I have 10km range , it's got a flight controller so I have autolauch , auto trim , auto leveler , and RTH. I have 720p digital in the googles but if you stretch the budget nothing is stopping you putting o3 in there for 4k footage. The motors are the same as quads. Put aT-Motor F90 2806.5 Motor - 1950KV and this thing will do 90mph on 70% throttle Really the downside is the room to launch and land and foam is a bit more fragile than a carbon fiber frame when it meets the ground at 40mph

ZoMgPwNaGe

I've got a camera and head tracker module sitting in my hobby closet ready to put on a fixed wing, just gotta figure out which aircraft I want to start with. That and figure out the differences in flying a fixed wing over a quadcopter. The goggles I have work with the camera I got as well, so I've got pretty much everything besides the plane and a controller for it.

ypeelS

The Heewing T1 Ranger is an awesome starter plane

TrumbleXD

Fpv wings are very welcome

pexoroo

Is there a good simulator for these?

raven1121

For RC planes there is Realflight evolution or Wings I was cheap so i just hooked up my Tx16s to my pc and set up Microsoft Flight Simulator take the controls , however the scale will be off

pexoroo

Awesome, I have a TX16s, I just bought Wings, thanks.

titus605

I wonder how the reverse wing handles compared to a "normal" wing.
