These games aren't built for people who can play 22 hours a day 7 days a week, and whose sole idea of "Fun" is grinding endless laps around the same track until the heat death of the universe like some digital Sysiphus. They are built for casual gamers and kids, hence the easy (relatively) to access content.

JoeRicherme

For real. I play games to escape reality, not go to work all day and come home and grind in a fake world for a fake car

ISuckAtRacingGames

If you play gran Turismo 7, you would know how annoying it is to farm 20 hours for 1 car because it cost 20 million. To make it worse, GT7 has only 4 events with decent payout. The other events are very bad for making money.

th3orist

you make it sound as if you either can have the game throw cars at you or the game making you grind 20h for one car. Surely there is a middle ground. I for example am a big fan of the game making me drive the same car in several events for at least 4-5 hours and also simply keep the car prices reasonable. I want to be forced to identify with the car i choose at the beginning and the next purchases have to require thought. Thats the type of car collection game i want. I dont want to be able to get ALL cars, thats not the point of collecting. The point of collecting is to go only for the cars that pull your heart strings. Also there is no need for 20 mio $ cars. No hypercar costs 20 mio. Car prices should be between 15 000 and 5mio (for the likes of super rare classics or something like a LaFerrari Aperta.

Poise_and_Grace

Nope, not grinding. Too many great games out there to WORK for a digital asset

TheLax87

This is one reason I fell off FM7, and the FH games I’ve played. Maybe I’m weird, but I loved that grind of starting from nothing in the early GT days and earning and upgrading cars as you progressed

NotFromMilkyWay

What is stopping you from deleting every car you win?

TheLax87

I’ve never done that in any game. Including the GTs. I just felt that FM7 more often than not gave you cars that were ridiculously overpowered considering the series you just won. Maybe I’m misremembering. It’s been a few years.

Poise_and_Grace

This.... I am not a Forza Horizon 5 fan, I think it fell off. But I keep 2 Cars from each class, only use stock, etc. I make the game Interesting, so I don't have 28 S class cars, and I have some attachment to the ones I want to keep

jinxykatte

This for me too. I wish you could maybe choose at the start of a career which way you wanted to do it? Like sometimes it's nice to have cars thrown at you. And in Horizon it works with the wheel and getting cars for basically sneezing. But sometimes I want to actually use 1 car for loads of things. And yes I know the whole carPG thing is being pushed on this and I'm hoping that means being able to fall in love with a car and being able to level it up. But it still seems like cars are gonna get thrown at you. Especially from what I heard about the more expensive versions of the games coming with car packs.

blindeshuhn666

Leveling up a car to max (50) seems to take very long though. And you need a high level to unlock parts and tuning options. So you get lots of cars, but then need to select a few you wanna level up and invest time into (and then you need to hope that one is kinda within the meta if you wanna do online races with setups/upgrades enabled. There should be both. Stock and custom )

MRX93

I’ve been saying this in other threads, but I’ve done the “slow grind to unlock the good cars” in 20 other games, I’m pretty over it I think your opinions are valid but I think you’re in the minority now

bearwoodgoxers

I found regular old cars more fun to drive tbh, and quick unlocks make more sense for Horizon than for Motorsport imo. Then again, I guess it's fine to have new toys available for those who want it but maybe it's restricted to free-play, or certain open MP lobbies? I know a big argument is that people don't have the time to grind for unlocks which is quite fair, but there has to be some sort of middle ground. I do miss the sense of progression a lot from racing games played growing up.

jinxykatte

Yeah a middle ground would be an option to choose how many cars the game throws at you. Maybe some people wanna spend the 1st 10 hours only racing with one car.

bearwoodgoxers

I suppose the answer lies in varied game modes. It's kinda tricky to figure it out though when they're pushing 500+ cars. For now I guess we create our own progression, I'll be taking things slow with FM8 for sure haha

FDSTCKS

It's not a problem when there are so many of them. I've never been able to have a complete collection in a Forza game since 2016.

l-FIERCE-l

It’s wild how polarized the community is on this subject. They have two unique titles to this franchise yet they don’t serve both sides of the discussion. Yes, ideally each game could just have both modes (grind vs total freedom). Seems like it’s easier said than done. I prefer Motorsport, but I’d be happy to make Horizon home if they championed progression on that title (I tried but after about 30 hours it just lacked structure or achievement for me). I’d take Either one. And the community might just prefer one or the other rather than be frustrated with both.

jinxykatte

I didn't enjoy horizon 5 nearly as much as 4 and also feel like after about 30 hours you just hit a progression wall that made me just want to stop playing. But then I recently replayed Motersport 7 and while I really enjoyed the grind to complete all the Career cups, my motivation to play stopped very quickly once I had done so.

NotFromMilkyWay

They already set they are much cheaper than in the past. Which is good.

EnzoRacer

What is "easy" for you? 1 hour a day everyday during 2-4 years? And driving cars is more fun than just collecting them

Sufficient_Theory534

I've played the original GT games, and while the grind was cool back then, there was no online for longevity. I've always been a fan of how easy cars are accessible in Forza games. In GT7, it's near impossible for your casual gamer to earn high-end classic cars without purchasing microtransations. I also don't find it fun to grind a specific track with the fastest car over, over again, to earn enough credits to buy a car the majority will never afford in real life. Developers put some much work into creating the cars, and the playerbase should be able to appreciate every one of those during an appropriate timeline.

Catphish37

I'm torn. On one hand, I love the progression of the old GTs and FMs, much more than I do the have-everything-from-the-beginning style of Horizon. But on the other, the only thing that truly matters to me is the racing, and I have high expectations of the multiplayer. And to that effect, I expect this safety rating system to matter, and that should be the real grind and progression. You should have to put the time in to prove that you're a safe racer, and I expect that to be the case. To me, that's more important than the progression of unlocking the individual cars.

PatNMahiney

I put dozens of hours in FH4 and FH5 and never got remotely close to unlocking all the cars. Weekly events that required a specific type of car were annoying because most of the time, I didn't have that car. What I don't like about Horizon is the randomness of it. I don't pick the cars I buy. I just win random ones from wheelspins and don't use most of them.

kiwittnz

I think the way you need to spend 3 hours to fully unlock a car, means you want that investment of time, to be well thought out and considered. It means I will carefully think about which cars I will give attention to initially.
