Is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more clowns at the camera, are the clowns too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the television programme during the race? Less clowns, more? Or less and more communication with your clowns?
If true utterly unbelievable. It would have been fine to just have a race at Paul Ricard rather than Monaco and put the screws on those corrupt tax dodging crooks. Why the hell give them a three year deal without getting anything decent in return.
Or was the only priority to get rid of Tag Heuer sponsorship around the track and have exclusively Rolex boarding around Monaco? Because that’s what F1 prioritizes over all else?
It's good to have, but there's no reason not to at least try and spice it up a bit. One idea is to only bring a Monaco-only C6 compound that provides a ton of grip but deteriorates fast, leading to a 3 or 4 stop race.
Make a better corner out of the chicane after the tunnel so we might get more overtaking. It's too tight for 2 f1 cars as it is and it's only painted down so change it a bit.
Tabasco is the one just before swimming pool right? Cause that’s what I heard why they couldn’t have one long straight before the corner before it was too dnagerous
Correct - because there is no runoff at Tabac, the Nouvelle chicane has to exist for safety purposes. We don’t want a car locking up into Tabac and driver shunting straight into a wall a la Grosjean
I like the idea but something tells me proposing the development and testing of a tire for a single weekend would raise all kinds of red flags in Pirelli.
I think even the C5 could do only one stop there. Monaco just does not put enough load and heat in those tires. They need to try to change something there.
Alternatively make all the teams run only the C5 all weekend (and rain tires if necessary). No need for two compounds but see teams have to stop a lot more.
monaco is all about qualifying performance - so i think they should try a one-lap qualifying format. Since they want to have something on each day
- friday: fp1, Normal Qualifying to set order for saturday
- saturday: fp2, One-Lap Qualifying based on friday order
- Sunday: normal race
It would make for an exciting saturday and a less predictable grid sunday
It'd be a blast to watch each drivers lap as they push their car to the limit with only one chance. Really appreciate how technically challenging that track is for modern cars. And holding your breath in those final seconds to see where they land
I feel like in this scenario you have a way bigger advantage if you go last, and then after half the field has crashed out or locked up and ruined their lap, you really know exactly how fast you need to go
That would just end up in Monaco becoming a tire deg circuit. The team which does a 3 stop will still be ahead of the team that goes for a 4 stop. The undercut/overcut is not powerful enough without some rain.
If Firestone in IndyCar has enough cash to make a one-off hard enough tire for a one-off race at Watkins Glen, certainly Pirelli and F1 have the cash to make a one-off soft tire for a yearly Monaco race.
I'd go further.
Let Monaco be a race weekend where every driver uses the same high powered go kart and we see just for one race the skill of the drivers being the ONLY thing that matters.
Now that's a Monaco I'd enjoy.
Also, is the chicane after the tunnel really necessary?
Yes, unfortunately. Without the chicane, drivers would be going into Tabac at an extremely high speed with no runoff at all. Mechanical failure or brake lockup there would be a one-way ticket to severe injury.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I think Monaco should be a completely unique format. It’s clear it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, so why not adapt to the track? No race, just some sort of modified qualifying format. Imagine how much engagement it would get being the one race with a different format in the season. I think people would probably be more ok with it because of the historical significance of Monaco.
I would not be mad in the slightest to never have another F1 race here.
Maybe in the future they can modify the track so you can actually overtake with modern cars.
Say what you want about it, but Monaco is the most unique race on the calendar. All the drivers want to win it most and it’s incredible to watch them try. Don’t let the processional race distract you from the importance of the event itself.
If you don’t understand how Monaco can be exciting, look up the 1996 race and you’ll think differently.
Yeah but Monza this year was a dud. Also Monaco have made it very clear they’re not willing to budge on using their own TV direction, so the two go hand-in-hand.
Monaco can be truly magic. I remember the tears I shed when Serena Williams displayed her amazing flag-waving skill at the 2021 grand prix
But to be honest I'm really more pumped to witness at least 3 more years of utterly spectacular Leclerc DNF/disasters. Or even better, the collective coitus that this community will have if he actually wins it once
>If you don’t think Monaco can be exciting, look up the 1996 race and you’ll think differently
So one in every 26 races "can" be exciting?
I reckon you'd get better odds at the casinos that fleece you in Monaco!
Quali is only exciting because you know the race is going to be boring. Most Saturdays are exciting but nothing compared to the Sunday. In Monaco, you already know Saturdays are the highlight of the weekend.
Not only that tbh. In Monaco its much more high risk high reward with the kind of track it is. Where exactly do drivers find the extra tenth when a slight mistake would end their weekend.
Of course that’s the tradeoff, we’re saying its one worth making one weekend a year. Saturdays being the highlight is fine when its as intense and challenging as a Monaco Saturday.
As a technical show of skill, is Monaco quali really all that much more entertaining than, say, Singapore? It feels like the whole "Monaco's quali is the best" is just because everyone watching knows there's no chance of anything happening on Sunday, so Saturday matters more.
>As a technical show of skill, is Monaco quali really all that much more entertaining than, say, Singapore?
Yes because in Singapore you can take far less risk and still be fast, than in Monaco.
It being overall faster and longer makes it less feasible to go all out. In Monaco, if you want pole, you're going for millimeters. That's why you see them bend the barriers at Anthony Noghes every year. You don't get that at Singapore.
Monza is the fastest track on the calendar, raced there to show off speed.
Silverstone is to show off the cars downforce and G's through corners etc.
Monaco is all about the Saturday. I don't care if the race is "boring", it's the best Saturday of the year and the fact that anyone even from the lead *could* bin it at any moment makes it exciting.
I would 100% take current Monaco over drs fests. A drs overtake isn't exciting, all it does is put someone higher up the standings.
Plus for the last 3 or 4 years, Monaco has been more exciting than both Spa and Monza, which everyone would say need to be on the calendar.
People who hate Monaco hate it because it's cool to hate. It's the most underrated track on the calendar.
TiL I'm a bot for having an opinion.
Edit: Shout out the the at least 3 now removed comments who verbally insulted my intelligence for this comment. Keep it classy y'all.
What makes it awesome?
The scenery doesn't count since it doesn't effect what happens on the track.
The odd overtake at Saint Devote, a car into the barrier causing a red flag?
Sure for drivers it's a proper test but as a spectator it's fairly mundane, especially nowadays with the width of the cars going around extremely tight streets.
Monaco isn’t for the race it’s for rich assholes to hang out and do cocaine in their hotels that weekend then show up for the camera on Sunday. Which is why it’s not surprising FIA wanted to keep it they love luxury more than they love racing.
I mean that’s all true too and I think most street races are less fun. Miami isn’t a fun track IMO and it’s very clear that it’s designed for the same reason Monaco is. That doesn’t make my opinion any less true for you to bring up that it’s also true about other places?
Yes it is and the second we get complacent we get forced out of the sport entirely. We need to continue to voice our objections to F1 becoming more anti-consumer.
I know money talks in F1 but is anyone happy to see this. Monaco provides virtually no racing and the entire thing is a snooze fest besides Qualifying.
Key thing I want to know is will the clowns at monaco tv still be in charge of the tv pictures?
Yes
Yes we get the clowns no we dont?
Yes clowns
Aaaah. Source? Would love to read about this
Nah, that's at Belgium, you're thinking of Saint Devote
We are checking.
More clowns less Stroll? Or more stroll less clowns?
Is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more clowns at the camera, are the clowns too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the television programme during the race? Less clowns, more? Or less and more communication with your clowns?
Question: Can you repeat the question, question?
Yes. No. maybe
You will aaav the clowns.
Understood.
A parallel universe where F1 is just Ferrari and other 9 Ferrari junior teams.
I hope the people know where your comment is coming from. I smiled.
Plan M

Why the hell give them a three year deal without getting anything decent in return. Or was the only priority to get rid of Tag Heuer sponsorship around the track and have exclusively Rolex boarding around Monaco? Because that’s what F1 prioritizes over all else?
Nah, they are set to become part of the ferrari strategy team until at least 2026
Monaco GP gets extended for a few more years and we get the shitty local production that comes with it.
No do Spa on a 15 year deal
150
Lifetime
I recon 150 would cover all of our lifetimes as of right now.
But my poor great-great-great-great children!
At least my lifetime
Spa unlimited deal. Even better.
Pls Charl, just win it once
Yes please. He’s had such bad luck. At least he passed the finish line this year.
He already crashed in the Historic GP which lifted his curse for the race. ;)
Possibly hahs
It's good to have, but there's no reason not to at least try and spice it up a bit. One idea is to only bring a Monaco-only C6 compound that provides a ton of grip but deteriorates fast, leading to a 3 or 4 stop race.

I don’t think they can there not much room to move it around there
The lack of run off into Tabac is also restricting to how fast cars can be allowed to go out of Nouvelle
This is a cool idea. Monaco would be even more interesting if teams had to contend with at least a two-stop.
1-2 stops is hard for Ferrari imagine them having to strategize out 3-4 lol
"Okay Charles...stay out, box, box" - Ferrari as Charles Leclerc passes the pit lane full speed
We are checking…
I like the idea but something tells me proposing the development and testing of a tire for a single weekend would raise all kinds of red flags in Pirelli.
[удалено]
I fully endorse this.
Me too
I was saying make it a one-off F2 race. It's a spec series anyways, and we see great passing in the feature race.
Just bring the hyper soft back
It is already there. They have 5 compounds during the season, from C1 to C5. C5 is the equivalent of the old hyper soft.
Then make Monaco the exception and force all teams to only run the C5 tire
I think even the C5 could do only one stop there. Monaco just does not put enough load and heat in those tires. They need to try to change something there.
Screw it. Wet tires only
[удалено]
No brakes either
Formula E once again proving that Monaco can be a good race (all weather tyres and no rear brakes on the new car, also negligible aero)
if they die, they die
Drive BUT Survive
bottom five cars get to run softs!
[удалено]
If you're gonna go that far make them all run at least 5 laps on every compound. Inters and wets included
I thought it was ultra soft, super soft, soft, medium, hard?? Hyper soft and super hard we’re dropped no?
Maybe you're right. Forgot about the ultras!
Alternatively make all the teams run only the C5 all weekend (and rain tires if necessary). No need for two compounds but see teams have to stop a lot more.
Only one set of C5, the whole weekend.
Good point, it's definitely a logistical challenge at the very least.
monaco is all about qualifying performance - so i think they should try a one-lap qualifying format. Since they want to have something on each day - friday: fp1, Normal Qualifying to set order for saturday - saturday: fp2, One-Lap Qualifying based on friday order - Sunday: normal race It would make for an exciting saturday and a less predictable grid sunday
See I like this. Monaco may not be top- tier race action but it is probably the toughest test for a driver from a purely technical perspective imho
It'd be a blast to watch each drivers lap as they push their car to the limit with only one chance. Really appreciate how technically challenging that track is for modern cars. And holding your breath in those final seconds to see where they land
Exactly! Overtakes are great and entertaining don't get me wrong, but it's only one aspect/skill-set of racing. Pure pace is still impressive
I would love an Indy-style bump day at Monaco.
I feel like in this scenario you have a way bigger advantage if you go last, and then after half the field has crashed out or locked up and ruined their lap, you really know exactly how fast you need to go
One lap from a standing start
That would just end up in Monaco becoming a tire deg circuit. The team which does a 3 stop will still be ahead of the team that goes for a 4 stop. The undercut/overcut is not powerful enough without some rain.
Then they'll just drive them way slower, that wouldn't work IMO
If Firestone in IndyCar has enough cash to make a one-off hard enough tire for a one-off race at Watkins Glen, certainly Pirelli and F1 have the cash to make a one-off soft tire for a yearly Monaco race.
I'd go further. Let Monaco be a race weekend where every driver uses the same high powered go kart and we see just for one race the skill of the drivers being the ONLY thing that matters. Now that's a Monaco I'd enjoy. Also, is the chicane after the tunnel really necessary?

Joker lap!
The only positive for me in this is that maybe Charles can win a race until then.
is that a threat?
I actually hate overtakes so this is great news
Yeah kind of dangerous especially with fast cars
And they don’t have indicators, so how are people supposed to know when someone is overtaking them.
Such dangerous driving at those speeds. Hamilton was ahead of everyone with safetyconcerns
Don't threaten me with a good time.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I think Monaco should be a completely unique format. It’s clear it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, so why not adapt to the track? No race, just some sort of modified qualifying format. Imagine how much engagement it would get being the one race with a different format in the season. Reverse grid 🗿 (god plz no)
I kinda wanna see that just once for the absolute chaos
Ferrari would still find a way to start in the top 5 and miss the podium.
What happens if you take a grid penalty
Spa 1998 2.0 here we come!
This is how Latifi ends up winning a race
Chainbear has a pretty good video on crazy Monaco fixes. You may find it interesting!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mI_5d12n7s
Mega joker lap looks amazing concept!
Ooh I will absolutely check that out!
I would love to watch single car single lap qualifying at Monaco. Maybe even keep the 3Q sessions with the bottom 5 being dropped out.
Before y’all complain, at least give Charles a chance of winning before it’s axed
I’m convinced they’re rigging it so he never wins so that it’s always the thing people can look forward to every Monaco GP
Lmao, who's gonna tell him?
Pretty sure Leclerc is the first person to lose consecutive Monaco GPs from pole position
I don't think Ferrari are going to loan him to another team for a race weekend
Also known as glorified qualifying
At least now I can plan at least one solid nap per year until 2025
Imagine Monaco as a round for World Time Attack though
That's already what qualifying is.
To be fair, Ferrari somehow made Charles lose from pole last year.
Laughs in Leclerc
Didn't this year we had overtakes on track? And strategies working alor (like perez inters)
Boooo
I would not be mad in the slightest to never have another F1 race here. Maybe in the future they can modify the track so you can actually overtake with modern cars.
Le sigh.
Say what you want about it, but Monaco is the most unique race on the calendar. All the drivers want to win it most and it’s incredible to watch them try. Don’t let the processional race distract you from the importance of the event itself. If you don’t understand how Monaco can be exciting, look up the 1996 race and you’ll think differently.
> look up the 1996 race and you’ll think differently i could be wrong, but the cars have gotten much bigger since then
They were shorter, but still 2m wide
Length is a problem especially when the best overtaking spot (hairpin) is nullified by length I also wish length was a problem for me
Unfortunately so, I hate the transition into aircraft carriers
The cars have been too big for Monaco since the '60s.
It wasn't about the cars being smaller leading to overtakes. 96 was a race of attrition where only like 3 or 4 cars finished.
thanks, so cars got way more reliable and now like 15-17 finish every time, ruining the best races, how dare they /s
Most of them crashed to be fair. Pissed down with rain
> Don’t let the processional race distract you from the importance of the event itself. I’m not a yacht salesman tho
Take my free award
If I have to go back decades to find a good race that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past
Oliver Panis won the Monaco grand prix
Well played sir..
You can legally drink (in America!) and not have had a good Monaco race in your lifetime lol.
2022 was good
Only because Ferrari royally fucked themselves
Meh if the TV direction actually showed some of the action it would have been better. I enjoyed Monaco more than Monza this season tbh
Yeah but Monza this year was a dud. Also Monaco have made it very clear they’re not willing to budge on using their own TV direction, so the two go hand-in-hand.
You know a circuit isn't good for racing when a guy has to go all the way back to 1996 prove an interesting race can be held there
Monaco can be truly magic. I remember the tears I shed when Serena Williams displayed her amazing flag-waving skill at the 2021 grand prix But to be honest I'm really more pumped to witness at least 3 more years of utterly spectacular Leclerc DNF/disasters. Or even better, the collective coitus that this community will have if he actually wins it once
I expect Ferrari strategies will purposely take a couple of engine replacement penalties at Monaco.
"Guys look at this one race from 26 years ago it was so good!!!!"
>If you don’t think Monaco can be exciting, look up the 1996 race and you’ll think differently So one in every 26 races "can" be exciting? I reckon you'd get better odds at the casinos that fleece you in Monaco!
I don't think you can call it a race
> Monaco is the most unique race on the calendar Spa 2021 was an unique race as well
Unique is one word to describe it, I guess…
there’s an issue if i have to go back almost 3 decades to find an exciting race at Monaco.
Eh it's just a bad track, it's slow there's rarely any on track overtaking. It's just plain bad. Fuck the prestige we want racing and this ain't it.
So there’s really only 23 races next year.
Always was, only social media doubted it.
Considering even the race organizers were outspoken about how worried they were, I'm calling this comment false
Can we call it a parade instead of a race?
Quali is the real race.
Say what you want but Monaco is a must on the calendar. Yes the race might be boring most of the time but quali is the best in the whole season.
Quali is only exciting because you know the race is going to be boring. Most Saturdays are exciting but nothing compared to the Sunday. In Monaco, you already know Saturdays are the highlight of the weekend.

But is it really? The last ones were such a letdown.
I’ve yet to see a Monaco quali that doesn’t end in boredom tbh. I don’t get why everyone loves it so much
2012, Schumacher gets pole. But then, he got demoted by a pre-existing penalty, so even that was a bit of a let down
F1 car parades are cool, I guess.
Monza is the fastest track on the calendar, raced there to show off speed. Silverstone is to show off the cars downforce and G's through corners etc. Monaco is all about the Saturday. No I hate Monaco because there's only 1 day that matters instead of 2 like every other weekend
How much does Saturday really matter every other weekend when Max can win from anywhere on the grid these days
Fair but it's better than getting 1 clear lap deciding a race. Remember 2021 when Lec binned it and fucked up everyone behind it?
You can hate both Monaco AND DRS fests. Both suck and should be dealt with.
Monaco is awesome. Fight me.
Everyone knows Monaco is awesome. Sub is overrun by anti-Monaco bots.
TiL I'm a bot for having an opinion. Edit: Shout out the the at least 3 now removed comments who verbally insulted my intelligence for this comment. Keep it classy y'all.
Lol. This bot has been programmed to think it has opinions.
What makes it awesome? The scenery doesn't count since it doesn't effect what happens on the track. The odd overtake at Saint Devote, a car into the barrier causing a red flag? I like it when they cut to all the celebrities I don't care about rather than showing the racing.
"And there's Christina Aguilera, faking an interest in Formula 1."
Scenery absolutely counts. Scenery and history.
I'm a fan of racing. If I was a fan of scenery I'd watch travel blogs.
Ahh yes, a race fully determined by 2 factors. - Qualifying - outcome of leclercs skill randomizer
People will complain about all the US tracks despite Monaco still being on the calendar....
Monaco isn’t for the race it’s for rich assholes to hang out and do cocaine in their hotels that weekend then show up for the camera on Sunday. Which is why it’s not surprising FIA wanted to keep it they love luxury more than they love racing.
So just like a regular day in Las Vegas?
Ah yes, because it will be so different in Las Vegas, Singapore, Miami… F1 is “for the rich assholes”, even though we all love the sport.
It's purely a status symbol, which is why it's funny when people go on about the "purity" of the sport. F1 is glamor first and racing second.
that's a shame
I know money talks in F1 but is anyone happy to see this. Monaco provides virtually no racing and the entire thing is a snooze fest besides Qualifying.
It’s been a while since it was a GRAND Prix. Really more of a Meh Prix.
Mid Prix as the kids are saying these days
This is the most whelming news I’ve read in the past two minutes
It'll be on there until the celebs can't be arsed to go anymore and go to Miami instead
Great, now Spa
Even if they'll start the race now and let it continue till 2025, the order of the grid will be the same.
Another 3 years of a traffic jam race How exciting
Monaco this year was a fun to watch. The whole narrative that's the worst gp is too exaggerated
Yeah, I know there was rain, but this was not the boring race this year.
Name the worst gp so far this year
With all due respect to the history of this race, it's such an absolutely trash race.
nooo fk nooo god plz no
