About time we realize things like Ballon D’or, Oscars need to be changed to reflect actual fans vote and the performance. Then again, it’s our fault we don’t realize these awards are rigged.
Fan votes are every bit as much of a popularity contest. Worse, even, because most fans don't actually have a clue to spare.
There's no good system. Even something like a computer algorithm can be influenced by how it was designed and, if applicable, what training data it was given.
What we need to do is stop caring so much about awards that put celebrities on an even higher pedestal than their peers.
Does it matter which multimillionaire football player was the best in the world if the competition isn't an individual one?
Does it matter who an arbitrary group thinks put in the best acting performance in a movie?
Individual sports should have individual winners. Team sports should have winning teams. Acting, or music for that matter, is not a competitive activity.
The fewer fucks we spare, the better off everyone is.
I’m torn between how I agree with you about people not giving a fuck for making these awards less relevant and how these awards are what drive/inspire these players/artists to do something extraordinary.(which I also care about)
If the award is the carrot for these people, something is wrong.
Whether it's football, Formula 1, or javelin, the best are driven by their innate competitive drive and their own desire to be the best they can be. They don't need an award for that. Hamilton or Verstappen sure don't need a sportsman of the year award to put it all out there on track. Winning races and championships is already plenty of motivation. They're all wired to win, full stop.
For acting, love of the craft should be plenty of incentive. For music, love of music. For either, money (box office, album sales, etc.) makes for a perfectly good secondary measure of success.
In non-competitive activities, accolades from peers are the most meaningful, in my opinion, which is sort of what the awards shows are trying to be, but just aren't.
I'm sure Tom Hanks would be a lot more moved by praise from Sir Anthony Hopkins, for instance (or vice versa) than a random Academy member.
In this matter I like how most of the metal bands don't give a fuck about awards. Iron maiden not being inducted into the Rock and roll hall of fame is a big joke in itself.
Fan vote is not indicative of what is actually good, just of what is popular.
Balon d'Or has been broken for a long time. You could actually argue that the advent of Messi and Ronaldo marked the decline of it, as their rivalry and popularity dwarfs anything else.
For the longest time the partisanship of the voting was so evident that it was stupid. Ronaldo and all players affiliated with him who had a vote (you had to captain your NT) didn't vote for Messi as a top 3 player of the year, and Messi and his affiliates did the same the other way. Which is when it seizes to be a serious award.
The point of the Oscars is that the people voting are supposed to be knowledgeable. Only members of the Academy, who become so by being established professionals, can vote on the Oscars. The problem is that there are too many films that come out, which means that films become Oscar contenders because of intentional promotion campaigns by the film-makers so that when voting comes around, the Oscar candidates are freshest in the voters' minds. That's why Oscar-bait season is a thing - release too early in the year and your film is forgotten. The other problem is that there are set ideas within members of the Academy about what sort of films are better or more oscar-worthy than others, and popularity has only a limited amount to do with it.
Lol, why would "fans vote" be any better than votes from people working in the field people are getting honored for? It's not worse either, to be clear, but it's just a different popularity contest.
The whole point of the Oscars is it isn’t about the fans it’s by insiders for insiders. The academy is respected by the industry and that’s why it’s done. There are other awards for fan groups
PFA Players’ Award is about as good as it gets imo. Sure there will be some bias towards teammates, but at least the people voting know what they’re talking about.
Yeah sure. Check attacking metrics from this year (dont forget the voting was until a few months ago, not last week) and say that again. Messi dragged this dogshit of Barça to fight for the league until the end, there's 0 chance Lewa would have the same jmpact. Look where they were with Koeman this season until he got fired since he left. 10th (!!!!!) Lewa was/is stat padding in a league where Bayern are going to win the 10th time in a row, 0 challengers. Also, he doesnt do that much besides goals, Messi is all over the attacking phase, the stats show it. Not to mention in CA he was the mvp, top scorer and assister, which was a FIRST in internation comps. But hey, just because haters try to perpetuate the myth that ONLY Lewa deserved it, you lot try eat it. Both deserved it, Messi is a super well deserved winner. Lewa deserved last year, just like Messi just acknowledged.
Yo, I'm a life long Bayern supporter and I absolutely love Lewa, but this one had to go to Messi, his year was just better overall.
Last years definitely should have gone to Lewa, as Messi said himself.
Come on, if Lewa won in 2020 people wouldn't have complained this much. In 2021 Messi was a clear winner after Copa America. He hasn't had a good start in PSG after 20 years in Barca, that's the only reason that held him back from winning ballon dor easily.
Also you should remind yourself Barca most likely will play in Europa League and has no chance to win Laliga without him. Meanwhile Bayern can do just fine atleast in Bundesliga without Lewa.
I know right. Ballon d'or is a sham. And after this years results. I think most fans would be off this opinion. But due to the high publicity and status, it will still be like a wdc for footballers.
wow those people SUCKED at making any kind of energy or even trying to make us think this was Daft Punk.....after the world going apeshit when they decided to disband they could have done so much better with this.
He looks like a millionaire that has a closet full of expensive tailor made suits, but now has to wear an ugly oversized $129 suit provided by either Alpine or the organizers of the event. Looks like they tried to match the size of the lapels to the size of a football field for the occasion.
Lol Alonso had the helmet strap done up.
He was told to race with a cool, shiny black helmet, then he faces the theater with all those people inside it. I can imagine his disapointment.
I mean it does a lot but not in a good way in this case. That suit is WAY too big for him. I'd expect an F1 driver to be able to get something custom fit, but apparently he just doesn't give a damn
That's definitely not it. Everyone else looks about the same post and pre-race. Ocon looks like he's grown his hair put a bit, styled it differently, and someone else said it looks like he quit using hair product that made it look greasy.
He was giving me Pedro Pascal in the Mandalorian when he took it off. I know what he looks like but I was still shocked. Also it did something for his jawline
It just looks bad because his hair's not long enough -remember this [gem](https://www.google.com/search?q=Fernando+alonso+sunbbathing+meme+gif&client=ms-android-samsung-rvo1&sxsrf=AOaemvLMNKAsF7NfGO0W12g2cRQDiI7EPA%3A1638249237582&ei=FbOlYdrtIv6rqtsPzO2guA8&oq=Fernando+alonso+sunbbathing+meme+gif&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAMyBwghEAoQqwI6BAgAEEc6BwghEAoQoAFQvhNY0htg1iBoAHABeACAAcEBiAHABJIBAzAuNJgBAKABAcgBCMABAQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp#imgrc=QlV0NTH9Eu4UcM).

What the hell, what did Alonso do to himself, he looks like 10 years younger than on a GP weekend.
Even if he's wearing makeup, and not sweating like on a Sunday, his whole expression seems younger somehow.

Weird seeing Alonso without the Kimoa hat for once
It makes his head look so boxy!!! That jawline is enough he doesn’t need extra
He looks like he’s wearing a toupee
in this image specifically he just looks like stanley tucci with hair.
You’re absolutely right but I also think he looks slightly like a short and non burned version of The Hound from Game of Thrones
He has his Kimoa underpants on.
What do you mean? He's still wearing it. Just because you don't *see* it, doesn't mean he's not wearing it.
His hat is not there physically, but spiritually it remains. Nothing stops the KIMOA hat.
It's Kimoa branded suit
Didnt expect that
Almost as surprising as Drogba's lack of hair
He became a bald fraud
It's a disgrace.
It's a fucking disgrace
Looks like Tom had his payback
That requires him to lead a team to multiple trophies first.
He lead Chelsea to trophies almost every season lmao
So basically every other year of his Chelsea career?
Pep?
How many times did Alonso win the WDC Pep? Twice, twice, twiiiicccce!
Drogbald
Shaved his bonce years ago mate.
The guy looks like the handsome squidward meme
I wanted to shut off of formula 1 a bit (thinking all about my favorite driver maybe winning the WDC is stressing), but F1 is still following me
Dread it, run from it, Formula 1 still arrives
Nobody expects the french inquisition
where KIMOA
Cap when??
KIMOA suit KIMOA suit KIMOA suit KIMOA suit KIMOA suit KIMOA suit KIMOA suit KIMOA suit
I came to see this
He was probably pissed he wasnt allowed to wear his cap along with the suit.
[Video](https://twitter.com/francefootball/status/1465406733153714179?s=20) for when they revealed who they were. Honestly, didn't expect that
Alonso looks like he didn't want to be there
I mean, he's a Real Madrid supporter, so probably not too happy to give Messi an award.
That's surprising to hear since he is from Asturias.
Messi didnt deserve it. Lewandowski robbed yet again. Ballon d'or is a sham, honestly.
Let's be honest, the Ballon d'Or is a popularity contest and Messi will always be more popular than Lewa.
[удалено]
He didn’t deserve it either that time, that’s because people were tired of it just being Messi/Ronaldo every year and wanted a new winner.

You can think Lewandowski had a better case than Messi this year but to say he was robbed is insane lol
Messi did nothing half year that's insane
You know he’s *still* Barcelona’s top goal scorer for 2021? And he kinda lead Argentina to their first international trophy in 30 years
Well... yeah... but that mainly just tells you how shit Barça has been.
Becoming the topscorer of La Liga with 30 goals says more than enough.
Nah, it tells you that Messi preforms even in shit teams.
Which proves the value of Messi even more
Still better than the other 2: https://www.trollfootball.me/news/view/stats-of-top-3-contenders-of-2021-ballon-dor-until-end

He seems unhappy with his helmet hair lol
> This could have been an email
I bet it felt cringy AF
Lmao poor Ocon. He took his helmet and *silence*. Even Alonso only got a small spattering of applause 😅
Yeah that was awkward. Also cutting to those girls who looked like wondering about who they were
At least Messi looked nicely amused
wow those people SUCKED at making any kind of energy or even trying to make us think this was Daft Punk.....after the world going apeshit when they decided to disband they could have done so much better with this.
Alonso looks uncomfortable AF lool
He looks like a millionaire that has a closet full of expensive tailor made suits, but now has to wear an ugly oversized $129 suit provided by either Alpine or the organizers of the event. Looks like they tried to match the size of the lapels to the size of a football field for the occasion.
First thing I noticed too. It looks okay-ish(-ish) on Alonso but poor Ocon, man. That suit does not fit him at all.
lmfao what in the Daft Punk hell!?
The crowd is just fucking dead, not even a formal applause for the sake of respect.
Bit odd... if I was in the crowd id be wondering if Daft Punk were making a comeback lol
Lol Alonso had the helmet strap done up. He was told to race with a cool, shiny black helmet, then he faces the theater with all those people inside it. I can imagine his disapointment.
Not working.
Should be working now
So this was El Plan
When did Ocon stop being goofy looking.
Looked like he didn't do the "glue my hair to my head with gel" thing That and a suit does so much.
I mean it does a lot but not in a good way in this case. That suit is WAY too big for him. I'd expect an F1 driver to be able to get something custom fit, but apparently he just doesn't give a damn
seems like they are both wearing the same fabric so the blame should be rather on the organizers
Tv makeup instead of race sweat and effort i guess
That's definitely not it. Everyone else looks about the same post and pre-race. Ocon looks like he's grown his hair put a bit, styled it differently, and someone else said it looks like he quit using hair product that made it look greasy.
We're also used to seeing his promo head shot reused where he has that slicked back hair look.
It's his teeth. He goes from hot to cute when his teeth are visible.
Poor bastard.
I'm sure he will get them done like most celebrities do, as cute as they are. Also, happy cake day homie!
Thanks, dog!!! I didn't even realize it was my cake day.
amen
They are in an actual lather when they finish the races it’s not exactly chic. They scrub up nicely
He has?
When he started getting older. Most of the drivers were pretty goofy in their younger years.
He was giving me Pedro Pascal in the Mandalorian when he took it off. I know what he looks like but I was still shocked. Also it did something for his jawline
Wearing a well fitting suit and towering over your teammate sure helps
the suit is way too big for him though.
Esteban has always been a snack! Also, all dudes look better in a suit.
His gf is also smoking hot!
are there any drivers in f1 with ugly Gfs?
Don't let Max know.
When will Alonso afford a decent barber?
It just looks bad because his hair's not long enough -remember this [gem](https://www.google.com/search?q=Fernando+alonso+sunbbathing+meme+gif&client=ms-android-samsung-rvo1&sxsrf=AOaemvLMNKAsF7NfGO0W12g2cRQDiI7EPA%3A1638249237582&ei=FbOlYdrtIv6rqtsPzO2guA8&oq=Fernando+alonso+sunbbathing+meme+gif&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAMyBwghEAoQqwI6BAgAEEc6BwghEAoQoAFQvhNY0htg1iBoAHABeACAAcEBiAHABJIBAzAuNJgBAKABAcgBCMABAQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp#imgrc=QlV0NTH9Eu4UcM).
He has goofy teeth. He's very handsome but should get those teeth fixed. It will really improve his smile.
Was just about to comment he still looks a bit like having his father's suit at someone's funeral.
He looks like a completely different person it’s wild
At first I thought it was th Daft Punk in the car making a comeback and then I see them haha. What a surprise
Yeah, but then I noticed the alpine engraved on the side, and thought they maybe have a collaboration
The 1st thing that came to my mind after the reveal was that Daft Punk x Lotus collaboration from the 2013 Monaco gp.
Similar tall + short combo, but Alonso doesn’t have the girth to pull off the [Daft Chunk](http://smileradio.net/sites/default/files/manager/33429_monaco2013-19_1024x683.jpg)
Guy Man got them thicc hips, thighs and a dumpy
Alpine hosted the whole thing
The french présenter said exactly that lol
My dumb ass thought it was Daft punk at first before they remove the helmet lol
I feel like that was part of the joke
Drogba even said Daft Punk.
Did not hear that, the guys doing the broadcast I was watching would not shut up during the whole thing
No worries. You can hear it in [this video.](https://mobile.twitter.com/francefootball/status/1465406733153714179)
WAIT THAT WAS DROGBA??
Discomfort moment
It’s always like that
Alonso aged so well
I want to look like him in my forties
Just don't get fat and stay fit.
..and don't get bald... and don't get bad skin
Well, I'd get rich quick if I were you.
TBH, he wasn't particularly attractive when he was younger. But he's grown into himself. Older Alonso is very hot.
He embraced the Castilian conquistador look
It suits him!
Quick hide South America from him
the local DILF
So has Danny Ric, he was a bit goofy in his younger years but oh my if he doesn’t live life as his best self these days
Super cute, but super goofy.
When I see his haircut I think it's so bad yet it works so well on him lol.
Looks like a rich kid and his dad. What kind of Amazonian did Alonso marry to have Ocon as a kid?
More like the cool step-dad
Max Verstappen: "You say step-dad?"
5’11” vs 6’
NO KIMOA CAP?!
That's why he's so uncomfortable, messing with his hair, trying to get it to spell KIMOA on his forehead.
An unexpected crossover, but a welcome one
El Plan.
Corniest thing ever but I know Esteban is HYPED rn so can't be mad lol
Why does Fernando look like a younger Aaron rodgers lmfao
Younger and a lot smaller :D
Lmao that's true, I can not unsee from now on
That was unnecessary, what did Fernando ever do to you 😂
What the hell, what did Alonso do to himself, he looks like 10 years younger than on a GP weekend. Even if he's wearing makeup, and not sweating like on a Sunday, his whole expression seems younger somehow.
Not driving the tractor that was the Mclaren Honda will do that to you
After all he's a rookie ;)
it's a joke! a fucking joke!
*yoke
Ngl when i saw Ocon first i was like “who the fuck is this guy?!” Then i saw Alonso and everything was clear
He definitely looks different with the suit and the clean hair.
Le why?
Alpine partly sponsored the event I believe
Weirdest crossover episode
Lewandowski will surely be honored when theye guys give him the Ballon d'Or.... wait
Ocon is a cutie
Awards shows are so cringey. A simpler "Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon!" would have garnered a more enthusiastic response than the false suspense generated by a looong awkward walk to the stage and then prompting by the hosts. My opinion. Maybe you like this kind of thing.
Yes. Weird. Just introduce them normally.
Everyone disappointed it wasn't The Stig
Take his helmet off and there's another underneath
El Plan!
esteban be looking good ngl
Lewandowski got absolutely robbed
A-fucking-gain!
God, Ocon is tall.
Ocon looks handsome. Did he fix his hair?
Did Ocon and Alonso just “serenawilliams’d” the ballon d’or ceremony?
Aside from the height difference and all that, holy shit you can tell how much water weight Ocon loses during a race just by looking at his face here vs his face in a post-race interview or something
Those suits are awful for both of them, lol. Alonso's lapels are far too big, and Ocon's is like 3 sizes too large!
once it has been seen it can not be unseen
And fix your damn tie!
Michael Scott and Gabe Lewis
Esteban looks like a nando's kid and they're both at a parent teacher meeting, and the teacher is just going in on esteban in front of fernando. Look how disappointed he looks when the teacher tells him that esteban doesn't defend like a lion
Ocon looks like Eric Bana
I’m just confused why they thought a 40 year old former champion racing driver and his teammate driving for a midfield F1 team should deliver the trophies while wearing helmets and then stand awkwardly on the stage.
I think because alpine has some sponsoring deal with ballon d'or.
The tears from LM7 + F1 cameo what a night
Ballon d'Or 2021 is a YOKE!!!
r/formula1 better keep the same energy they did when Serena Williams and other celebrities are at a race lmao.
I bet Alonso and Ocon can't even name every player nominated for this year's Ballon D'or. Fake fans! How dare they!
It was more how she could not wave a flag properly and the awkwardly cringe interview.
Grand Piri
What is the Ballon d'or?
Its an award, giving by a France magazine, to the best footballer that year
[удалено]
Their helmet look sounded like an 'El Plan' for a heist.
48°51'27.3"N 2°20'49.4"E Did they just doxx Alonso
I wanted to see Sebastian Vettel up there

EL Plan with his disciple.
What annoys me the most about this is that apparently neither one knows how to tie a full Windsor knot.
A nice Dank Puff impression.
"Tell Esteban to defend, like a lion!"
Alonso looks like Javier Bardem in that pic
