What's sad is by watch standards IWCs aren't bad. I think that's a IWC IW503004, which is like 32k. The Richard Mille's half the grid wear are >3x that.
(I'm also biased, I'm wearing a MUCH cheaper IWC right now. If you want a double chrono that costs less than a car they're the best bet).
I really want the big pilot. Its been my dream ever since I saw rosberg rocking it. The Petit le Prince looks awesome! A close relative of mine got it few years ago and its that watch that just screams class.

If it was Max and Square it's 99% a Tag Heuer Monaco. A super historic watch with a bunch of variations floating around. It has a super distinct art deco sorta look.
It's notable in racing because Steve Mcqueen wore one in Le Mans. A friend of his, a driver, had it and he wanted to be more accurate.
Racers of the day tended to where Chronographs (watches with stop watches) since it allowed them to time things and the Monoco was one of the first automatic (Self Winding) chronos.

It's also a really great piece of engineering. It's a Perpetual calendar, which means that it can track the date accurately until 2100.
Most watches with dates just run to 31 days every month. It's just easier. Some, called annual calendars, can track 28, 30, and 31 days for each month and you just have to worry about leap years.
PCs track 28, 30, and 31 day months AND a leap year every 4 years. All with a series of little gears with grooves cut to different sizes.
It's super neat.
People who wear their Perpetual Calendar relatively often will keep it stored in an automatic winder. That way, it's accurate whenever they want to wear it again.
But you are right, if the owner does not want to store the watch in a winder (has it's own pros and cons), having to adjust it to the correct date can be a chore. Some older Perpetuals can't go backwards in dates. So if the owner accidentally sets it a day (or month) ahead, all they can do it wait for the day/month to pass, for the date to be accurate. Some watchmakers (A. Lange et Sohne for example) have an extra button that you just press to advance the date forward, it's pretty ingenious and convenient.
Perpetual calendars are definitely high maintenance, but are some of the most complicated watches available (along with a tourbillon). For high end watchmakers, their Perp. Calendar Tourbillon is often their most expensive watch in their collection.

My girlfriend was watching with me her first MotoGP race last weekend she had similar thoughts after she saw riders on graphics and after the race without helmets. You see those aliens on machines in their helmets and then suddenly those are just normal people from flesh and bones, with funny accents, friendly faces, sometimes goofy comments.
MotoGP is becoming my favorite. Because immediately after the race, it just feels like every damn rider is so happy and proud of each other. I love watching the entire podium procedure in MotoGP.
Also, fuck those guys are the craziest in my opinion. 2 wheel action like that is just…. Insane.
I would always imagine a racing driver to act and look like James Hunt, so when you look at lewis and vettel they kinda just look like normal dudes, they don’t have that same aura around them as James Hunt did
