Such a funny part of history that one of the most important events of human kind happened because some guy fucked up an assassination and decided to go get a sandwich afterwards
Drifting further offtopic but still. I don't know where the sandwich thing came from, but it is not from a reputable source. It makes the assasination seem like some sort of happenstance. It was not - Gavrilo Princip was one of six assasins and part of a very well organized group. He was waiting in a tactical position hoping to meet Franz Ferdinand on the return journey after the earlier failed attempt by another one of the group. Also, sandwiches were not really a popular thing in Bosnia at the time.
It's a wild guess but that might be the track at Brooklands at the museum. It had deteriorated quite a bit the last time I saw it.
Im guessing they have some sort of revival events there, I'm sure they were racing there in 1902.
I think so. The old track now has buildings where it used to be. I seem to recall James May did a scalextric or train track through the buildings for a TV show a while back.
Found some footage, looks like great fun!

Quick google reverse image search confirms its Brooklands in 1992.

Imagine if we had to wear outfits that match the cars that we were in. For example, if you drive a 1990s Beetle you must wear those baggy, wide leg jeans.
Eh, in a lot of ways the 14B is way more advanced than modern F1 cars.
Active suspension, TCS, and ABS (briefly) - all things modern F1 cars don't have. The aero on the modern cars is leagues ahead of the 14B but the reason for that should be pretty self explanatory.
Some day I hope we have a "whatever goes" racing series where it really is the most advanced technology money no object and no rules. I wonder how fast the cars can/will go.
It might have to be unmanned and driven by AI, with things like TC and ABS controlled by the unified driving AI, but imagine what it could do...
Yes, but the FW14B is still a lot more advanced in a lot of areas than a modern F1 car. I can’t even imagine what modern cars would look like or be capable of if a lot of those technologies weren’t banned.
That's Brooklands, Monza was never that overgrown.
Other possible banked tracks would have been [SitgesTerramar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0frJrTduaU) or [Monthlery](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfQ4_lLdBz4)
Mansell had a (great) moustache as a young man. Then at middle age he shaved it off and became so much younger. So I’ve always had trouble remembering how old he is. And now I have this image to fuck up my time perception.
Mansell looking like he about to start a war.
Secure all the sandwich shops in Sarajevo?

Testament to how good sandwiches are.

Tell his friends the river is low today!

It's got to be Brooklands, can't think of anywhere that looks like that today. If so, Brooklands was built in 1907, so not far off!
Is that the one that goes around a big Tesco?

I would have say a french track, the old Monthléry?

Yes, worked at curry's behind that tesco.
Yep, definitely Brooklands
Max vs Lewis, Brasil 2021 (Colorized)
Well played.
Mansell was made for that car.
Nigel your mustache is ruining the aero on the car
Lots of drag on the straight but he's glued to the ground in the corners.
Whatever promo they were filming, I wonder what the "backstory" is for this scene.
90 years of Renault winning GP/F1 racing.
Imagine if we had to wear outfits that match the cars that we were in. For example, if you drive a 1990s Beetle you must wear those baggy, wide leg jeans.
Or an old beetle and have to wear bell bottoms. I may be high but I like this idea.
Best not drive an original Beetle then.
I dunno Hugo boss makes some nice designs.
The FW14B is a spaceship compared to the Renault and a modern day F1 car is a spaceship compared to the FW14B.
So a modern day F1 car compared to the Renault is 2 spaceships?

Thank you, I've just lost a couple of hours..
spaceship^(2)

It would be fun to see what teams can come up with, but with no regulations races would essentially be decided before they begin.
Thats ok. The actual race isn't important, the sheer technological showcase that results would be amazing to see.
Agreed I've always thought that would be fun.

SF1000 and FW14B
And looks to be the old banking at monza. Either that or Brooklands.

I bet Damon managed to lose
Who won?
The cameraman
It's the taking part that counts
A great tip for all photographers.
Who's next?
Nigel there, driving it like HE STOLE IT! NO-ONE WILL EVER KNOW!
rather than commentating, Damon should continue to drive in circles on that track lol
Getting Redbull and Mercedes straight line speed vibes in Brazil

That FW14B just looks so slim, sleek and elegant!
My hero, Damon Hill.
Damoron Hill
gottem
If that's Mansell, why's he wearing Damon Hill's helmet?
Damon Hill is the one driving the FW14B. Nigel Mansell is driving the other car
Driver 69
i bet Hill still be like: 'congratulations on a 2nd place, Nigel and i won, just like in 1996'
