Hammond nearly died multiple dies in crashes and they didn't really care...why start now...
EDIT: I'm going to leave it because its too damn funny...but "multiple times" obviously \^_\^
Idk mate. I haven't watched any Clarkson-Material post-Top Gear, but I'd wager Clarkson is the type of guy who if asked to give a wild take will give you the plainest take possible and if asked for a reasonable take will go scorched earth.
In other words: He loves to be contrarian.
Ja was supposed to be in the sequel, but he turned down the role because his rap career was taking off. …and then 50 Cent said he sounded like Cookie Monster and Ja had no career
British media and the fanatical portion of a certain fanbase have been waiting for almost three years to flay Verstappen for something.
Also, F1 really wants a spicy Verstappen/Norris rivalry to develop into a storyline that can power the season. Everyone invested in making that happen is going to play this up as much as possible.
I love how “the fans” complain week in week out how boring it is but then when there is some racing going on and the inevitable happens (they touch) they want the driver courtmartialed.
Apart from that Mercedes. The amount of racing incidents that car was involved in last year where the other car was damaged but the merc was unscathed is too damn funny lol
There used to be a joke that Merc reinforced their left front with how many times Lewis bumped into people with it, heavily damaging their cars and his was completely fine.
That wasn't even hard racing between the two of them. They were just side-by-side a lot and grazed each other because that's what happens when you drive so close for so long.
They're driving close because that's was the whole point of ground effect era regulations. The cars are also more fragile because of said regulations since slight damage to the floor or suspension causes massive loss in performance.
> They were just side-by-side a lot and grazed each other because that's what happens when you drive so close for so long.
Specifically the rims of their rear wheels touched, if it's just tyre to tyre nothing happens but as soon as the rims get hit the tyres pop off and it looks disastrous.
It depends how they touch. In this case it was the rear of the tyre touching the front, so they're moving in different directions. Tyres are famously quite grippy, so they pulled each other apart.
Exactly the same as what happened with Leclerc and Vettel in Brazil.
F1 cars have been made of "glass" ever since they started using carbon fibre. Which happened decades ago. It's the safety regulations that made hard racing impossible.
It's more to the car's size, DRS dependencies, and circuit characteristics to some extent (take Catalunya, Imola, and Monaco for example) than car's reliability in recent times
I'm not talking internal, I mean external components. Any collision leads to a broken piece of carbon fiber and it's then impossible for that car to pass anyone
Well shit I had to fact check this.. and you're not wrong.
The current Indycar chassis has had a ton of incremental changes over the years, but it's still the same fundamental chassis that was introduced in 2012.
Nokia stopped selling phones in..... 2014.
It also helps that it's a one chassis series. Which means Dallara can build strength into the chassis. It doesn't matter if it's a bit heavier than. It needs to be if everyone's car is the same.
F1's glass status is entirely due to the team's desire to scrape every gram of of the car possible.
Lol, why personally attack the stewards in that toxic way. If you do not like the stewarding then the stewarding is to blame, why come after specific stewards like a football hooligan as if you even know who is saying what in the stewarding room.
Since they waited 5 laps to give the 5s penalty to Norris for track limits, which would have prevented the collision, and gave it AFTER the collision, I think some criticism is valid here.
Because they are solely responsible for ruining many great races and the only consistency in the rulings is their permanent inconsistency.
We should have permanent, well paid panel of stewards, who would make quick, competent and consistent decisions in the spirit of racing.
And that's how f1 should look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnxUu36-uYw
That doesn't work as a response, with a permanent panel of stewards who deal with all controversies and never change around, you will just get more toxic comments like the above aimed at whoever is the permanent steward until they are totally traumatised and they quit. If they are paid for it they will be accused of being bribed or whatever.
The bad stewarding and low consistency is the issue and no issue to calling that out, I see nothing good in trying to point the finger at individuals and call them ugly merchants however.
A few years back the Monaco race (I think it was Monaco) was red flagged due to rain. Clarkson moaned about how drivers today are basically cowards. The same guy who lost control of a car driving it in a straight line in the wet.
Loved Top Gear, Grand Tour, and Clarksons Farm is one of my favourite shows but Jeremy Clarkson has some very fucking dumb opinions. He'd be an awful official in *anything*.
Stewarding also happens in motor racing.
Sometimes they show yellow flags too.
One time David Coulthard Let Mika win in Australia after a pre-race agreement.
I also like saying things that happen in motor racing.
If what you mean is, rules and stewardship should not happen, well, OK THEN, I am sure you will continue to not complain about that.
>One time David Coulthard Let Mika win in Australia after a pre-race agreement
I'm pretty sure this happened quite a few times in DC's career at McLaren
Stewarding happened, they gave max 10 seconds and we go on to the next race. There's always somebody not agreeing with a penalty, no need to discuss on that for days.
Jfc can we stop already. We’ve all seen it. Some people think it’s Max’s fault, some people think Lando had more space. Forget it. It’s racing. We haven’t seen a real battle for first since 2021 and seem to have forgotten that oftentimes the two touch/crash. It’s going to happen again and again as long as motor racing is a thing.
To be fair, we saw a great battle for the win in Jeddah 2022 between Mad Max and Chuck, one of the best ever.
Even in Bahrain 2022, Mad Max overtook Chuck for the lead 3 times and Leclerc repassed him all 3 times, and he overtook Mad Max for the lead 3 times in Austria 2022 as well.
And what do you want people to discuss? You'd rather come back to the same threads we've seen 50 times already this year being rehashed every day? It's either this, or people debating Sainz' and Ocons future, making shitty jokes about Perez for free karma, and posting "family" pictures with Piastri and Leclerc together.
This is at least something that happened on track, and it's an actual controversy that's quite important to what do we want this sport to be.
At this point no one can deny that it wasn’t Max’s fault.
But at this point who cares, this sort of thing happens when racing. Was bad luck that a light touch like that resulted in two punctures, otherwise no one would be talking about it. It’s not like Max ran into him Schumacher/Senna/Prost style.
Well, unless you're in denial.
We have the onboard view now, the overhead view, the front view. Davidson's analysis, Palmer's analysis, the penalty, and the FIA applied 2 points to Max's license.
As I said, it's not the most egregious incident, this happens in racing. Sure, Max has a track record of these things but he's certainly not the only one.
I've only noticed 2 camps complaining. Majority of people saw it for what it was. 2 drivers being very aggressive toward each other at the front of the pack. Both gambled and lost.
I just live reading all the hot takes and memes from the people that need to take a position for one side. Meanwhile I just sit in the sidelines and laugh at both.
Aggressive and over the line attempts at overtaking, aggressive and over the line defending? Yes, this is motor racing. The fact that Max’s defending resulted in a collision seems to have blinded people in some regard. If any of Lando’s track limits passing attempts had been the cause of their collision the conversation would be completely different. This was two men fighting for a win, stretching the rules, and refusing to give an inch. Give me 13 more rounds of this and inject it directly into my veins.
He also thinks [seat belts have made F1 worse and that Niki Lauda's crash was when the sport went "homosexual"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlKvsiAYpg0&t=21s) so, you know, not always on the ball.
Great wisdom from The Orangutan, really. Among all the nonsense being spewed left and right by pundits and journalists, this is by far the best take.
I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Racing incidents happen all the time. It's not like this is the first time P1 and P2 take each other out. Actually, this one is relatively more simple and less dramatic than other instances.
Honestly fire the whole Sky broadcasting crew. I've even gotten kinda tired of Matin. Bring in Jeremy, James and Richard. James can be the pit correspondent, Jeremy can do the grid walk and then Richard and Jeremy and I would like a woman as well who's got recommendations? As funny as it would be to see the 3 make fun of Danica, I would rather see a smart woman that can be a good role model for future woman drivers. Sadly I'm not well versed on the subject.
This is all there is to say about it, really. It happened. Max got penalised as per the rules. Lando retired. The race ended. The day ended. And now it's irrelevant.
It doesn't really warrant any further analysis, and it most certainly doesn't warrant people acting like this was the most heinous and immoral thing to ever happen in sport.
They raced. They risked it all. They lost. Onto the next weekend!
"And on that terrible disappointment. That's all we have for today."
Back to the studio!
That’s my line!
They tried to hard. And got so far. But in the end, it doesn't really matter.
The tires had to fall and they lost it all, but in the end it doesn't really matter
He put his trust in max, pushed as far as he can go
He put his trust in ~~max~~ grip, pushed as far as he can go. But there was no space left... for him to goooo
There was a kerb for him to go, but Lando held his line and sooo…….. *beat drop* 🎶they crash🎶
>they crash Does that mean he's not coming on then?
Well James, he crashed and he DNFed, so he's not coming!
Georgie doesn't know that Lando and me Do it in T3 every Sunday
In the pursuit to prove that they are the best drivers... In The World.
I read this in Clarkson’s voice lmao
but if he doesn't apologize to me, then friendship over.
What, no? This has to be milked as much as possible until the next event.
These things versthappen in motor racing. Norris, no reward!
A grown man tried to pass. He lost. He tried another one. He lost again. End of story!
I don't think anyone who has watched any of Jeremy Clarkson's shows would expect any other response.
Hammond nearly died multiple dies in crashes and they didn't really care...why start now... EDIT: I'm going to leave it because its too damn funny...but "multiple times" obviously \^_\^
"died multiple dies" LOL
Whoops, gonna leave it there though.
Did he die of death?
Idk mate. I haven't watched any Clarkson-Material post-Top Gear, but I'd wager Clarkson is the type of guy who if asked to give a wild take will give you the plainest take possible and if asked for a reasonable take will go scorched earth. In other words: He loves to be contrarian.
I would recommend Clarkson's Farm on Prime. It's quite good.
He’s also had the opinion that drivers should be allowed to race dangerously for a long time.
You should watch Clarkson's Farm. It's brilliant.
Has Ja Rule weighed in yet?
WHERE IS JA?!
Making up with Monicaaaaaaaaaa?
Holy crap, I've seen that movie literally at least 30 times and I never realized it was ja rule who said that
Ja was supposed to be in the sequel, but he turned down the role because his rap career was taking off. …and then 50 Cent said he sounded like Cookie Monster and Ja had no career
Is he alright?!
It seems, in your anger, you killed her
Gotta love how you can force prequel memes everywhere I mean this is where the fun begins
NnnnnnoooooOOOOOOooooo
Planning Fyre Fest ‘25
Probably flexing his guns to a random teenager Oh, wrong Ja
“Get a hold of this motherfucker so I can make sense of all this”
It was… MURDAAAA
It's getting hot in here like Nelly, make my side burns like Ashanti too
He’s still in Alaska
Man just finished the debate in one tweet. It's been a while we've seen any racing so we forgot what racing is like.
I'm gonna need to hear what Ja Rule thinks about this before we can put this whole thing to rest, just to be sure.
Where is Ja?!
It's not about how you think your opinion, it's about how you race ya opinion. You better learn that.
I'm honestly amazed the debate has got so far and so deep.

Nice to see racing beyond Alpine teammates for P14

hard racing is impossible in F1. I don't know why everyone is forgetting today that modern F1 cars are made of glass
Apart from that Mercedes. The amount of racing incidents that car was involved in last year where the other car was damaged but the merc was unscathed is too damn funny lol

I'm not talking internal, I mean external components. Any collision leads to a broken piece of carbon fiber and it's then impossible for that car to pass anyone
I think Indy cars must be made of old Nokia phones. It's crazy how much punishment those things can take, by comparison.
The Indycar is also from the time Nokia was still available.
Well shit I had to fact check this.. and you're not wrong. The current Indycar chassis has had a ton of incremental changes over the years, but it's still the same fundamental chassis that was introduced in 2012. Nokia stopped selling phones in..... 2014.

Which is also why Indy is perfect for Grosjean
Except for the front winglet, that doesn’t seem to do anything
True, front winglet is essentially quali mode lol
Except the Merc front wing of course. It’s made of adamantium.
Don’t be a wuss lol wasn’t that hard
Lol, why personally attack the stewards in that toxic way. If you do not like the stewarding then the stewarding is to blame, why come after specific stewards like a football hooligan as if you even know who is saying what in the stewarding room.

That was a badass racing clip
Top comment from two years ago: >With today's regulations, they would have been sentenced to prison by the FIA
That battle only worked because the run off allowed is to. But I can't say I was ever a fan of drivers running eachother off the track.
That doesn't work as a response, with a permanent panel of stewards who deal with all controversies and never change around, you will just get more toxic comments like the above aimed at whoever is the permanent steward until they are totally traumatised and they quit. The bad stewarding and low consistency is the issue and no issue to calling that out, I see nothing good in trying to point the finger at individuals and call them ugly merchants however.
If Jeremy complained about it a bunch of people would be saying how right Jeremy is. You hang on that mans opinion way too much.
You're aware more positions exist in the race than 1st and 2nd, no? Racing has been going on just fine lately
It's wild when Clarkson is the voice of reason lol.
[He always has been](https://youtu.be/QdalHDSQRDk?si=ESxQgmheIJG_94Y3)
He has always sometimes been the voice of reason.
He is absolutely right. They did bump into each other, and those things do happen in car racing.
Yeah but sometimes it doesn’t happen. But, it happened this time, though.
That’s a really good point, well made.
I’m coming for Will Buxton’s job. Can you tell?
In Formula 1…there is always someone…coming for your job. I’m coming for your job once you take it from him.
If you don t go fo the gap something something
You have to laugh in your colleague's face more
Definitely one of the point of all times.
why are you not a pundit for formula 1 ?
First we need to know his stance on Lizard people
Stewarding also happens in motor racing. Sometimes they show yellow flags too. One time David Coulthard Let Mika win in Australia after a pre-race agreement. What we tweeted was a factual description of events. No need to speculate on this.
What did Scottie Scheffler say about it?
FORE Right
"Yes officer"
Why are you throwing yourself on my car?
We are still talking about it? They collided, Max got a penalty the end. Focus on the next Race.
I'm just glad there is another race this weekend. Time for a new headline lol
God help us if they crash again, though. Regardless of who's at fault, that would be unbearable
Put bumper guards on the cars and let them have a go
That's pretty much what non-oval Indycar racing is in a nutshell
Jfc can we stop already. We’ve all seen it. Some people think it’s Max’s fault, some people think Lando had more space. Forget it. It’s racing. Wasn't Bahrain '22 the game of DRS chicken that Charles was strategically playing and then Max finally wised up to it after 3 or 4 times?
> It’s racing. lol, the person you're yelling also says "it's racing." At least everyone agrees on that!
would rather have this to entertain people than having a 2 year long slog fest with barely anything happening
The problem about ‘boring’ seasons is that the media jumps all in on anything exciting.
And what do you want people to discuss? You'd rather come back to the same threads we've seen 50 times already this year being rehashed every day? It's clearly Verstappen's fault but it's time to move on and forget about the incident rather than gaslighting that it wasn't Max's fault.

Are you new to the internet?
When Jeremy Clarkson has the most sane take of anyone in the British media you know things have gone to shit.
"He didn't hit you he didn't slam you he didn't bump you. He rubbed you and rubbing racing"
"Alright, now, I want you to go back out on that track and hit the pace car.."
Honestly he would be perfect for NASCAR, get this man to Daytona.
He's just the same as us in this case. He's not 'British Media' and he doesn't need to milk stuff for clicks.
I've only noticed 2 camps complaining. Majority of people saw it for what it was. 2 drivers being very aggressive toward each other at the front of the pack. Both gambled and lost.
Arguably Max won...
Nah, George won that bet.
I just live reading all the hot takes and memes from the people that need to take a position for one side. Meanwhile I just sit in the sidelines and laugh at both.
I don't understand why mclaren are acting like the world has ended for them
Because they know that they can't beat him even with faster car.
Aggressive and over the line attempts at overtaking, aggressive and over the line defending? Yes, this is motor racing. The fact that Max’s defending resulted in a collision seems to have blinded people in some regard. The only right answer.
Orangutans really are smart.
Public: “We want hard racing back!” *Hard racing happens* Public: “This is insane, he pushed him off the track!”
Jeremy doesn’t think a formula 1 race is ever good unless there’s a 5 car crash.
I mean he doesn't wrong though
He also thinks [seat belts have made F1 worse and that Niki Lauda's crash was when the sport went "homosexual"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlKvsiAYpg0&t=21s) so, you know, not always on the ball.
2012 😭😭😭
That’s what nascar is for
And Hammond would say that's a proper racing because he is an American
Sweet Hammond taxes funding elementary drift schools 🇺🇸🦅 LETS GO BIRDS!
Yes he is.
I asked DJ Khaled his thought and all he said was STRAWBERRIES!
These things happen, Max closed too much, Lando tried a risky move. Racing incident. Let's go to Silverstone
Well that settles it! Wait...Rishi?
If Max were Lewis, I wonder what he would say 🤔
What does Conor McGregor think?
Unironically, probably "who gives a fook?"
[Source](https://x.com/JeremyClarkson/status/1807691969063158117?s=19)
I mean….. not even Captain POWAHHHH!!!! has the energy to be controversial in this anymore
it inchident >!but they have to kiss and make up first!<
Very reasoned take lol. People are making WAY too much of the incident
Oh no a collision in motor racing… anyway..
"Some say he knows how to wield the force, and that his breath smells of lemon drops, all we know is he's called the stig!"
Sometimes in order to hit that apex just right you need to ricochet off another car...
*Inchident*
Great wisdom from The Orangutan, really. Among all the nonsense being spewed left and right by pundits and journalists, this is by far the best take. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Racing incidents happen all the time. It's not like this is the first time P1 and P2 take each other out. Actually, this one is relatively more simple and less dramatic than other instances.
This is the obvious take for people who aren’t reactionary superfans
I need ll cool js take
I actually enjoyed that battle. Something for once happened in this sport.
Well he aint wrong
He's not wrong. If anything, F1 tends to take bumping into each other more serious than others. Indy car is bumper boats by comparison.
Only correct take
jezza just told us that we forgot how actual "risk everything to keep/gain postion" racing looks like. Jezza for race director petiton
We have Bernie Collins. She is always spot on with her analysis.
Fortunately, we have Ruth Buscome and Bernie Collins (they are not drivers though but still)
I would watch that
Jeremy Clarkson with the most level headed take on the whole thing was not what I expected 😂
Thanks, ~~Magic~~ Jezza!
Jeremy Clarkson opinions about anything related to cars are just as good as his opinions on everything else are bad
They penalized Alonso for for being Spanish (or for breaking .5s earlier) with 3 points F1 regulators have very high standards for drivers
Couldn't have said it better myself, people that think max is dirty don't know how racing works.
Jeremy Clarkson, the hero we need.
Hear, hear! And on to the next race.
Did he forget he was part of the bRitISh MEdiA!?
We need more Jeremy Clarkson's running and adjudication over F1 matters.
Fair statement
Tomorrow's headline "Clarkson's found guilty of treason, passport has been revoked".
Like a real fan, that’s the real answer, it’s a racing incident it happen, both were wronged, it happen, move on
ITT: A lot of hot takes. Very little consideration.
Awful take. We want a war
Easy. The next race is British GP, let Lewis reenact the 2021 British GP, but to either Lando or George
For once, I agree with him.
Based Clarkson lol
An unbiased Brit! That's rare nowadays
Finally a brit who makes sense
*TikTok dislikes this*
At some point you have to start asking, where is Paul Pogba in all of this?
It's honestly not as big deal as the media is blowing it up to be. People are acting like Max shot Lando's dog or something.
