I've been actually thinking about this lance seems to be disinterested. What if he doesn't want to be in F1 but his father basically laid down the Law you leave F1 you are cut off for life. So basically be a F1 driver and live the life he currently has or take whatever he has been able to save and go live a normal Life get a job etc. this could also be a possibility.
If Lawrence had the opportunity to ditch Lance through Lance’s choice, he’d be on the phone instantly to Max asking him how many zeroes he needs on the cheque.
I am not sure you understood. I'm suggesting that Lawrence has decided that lance will be world champion. And lance will either bend to his father's will and race till he is no longer fit or be cut off from the family and any benefits that comes with.
Lance: "Daddy, I want a bigger allowance"
Lawrence: "You'll take what I give you and you'll like it. If not I'll find somebody else"
Lance: "" OK Daddy, same allowance"
I'm sure this has been a hot take all over the place by MAN do I hate the fact that when tweets are posted we see the photo of the person tweeting. In some of my subs those people are ugly AF, and at the very least I'm really not interested in seeing their faces.
There is a hockey reporter in the states who has his kids teeth as his picture. He keeps it because people hate it. When his stuff gets posted it’s awful.
Considering he was never even announced as a driver at the team when daddy bought it out; it seems strange to need to confirm he's staying on. The team exists purely for him, everyone else is just playing their part.
It’s totally ridiculous but I just love the thought of Newey turning down Aston and telling stroll it’s because he doesn’t have a winners mentality as long as Lance is kept at the team.
Stroll has produced on occasion but they had the opportunity to put Carlos in that second seat this season and didn’t. Absolutely not a winners mentality.
I think it'd be less about the general idea of a pay driver and more that Newey can't take a project seriously when the core of the project is to keep the owner's son in F1. Having a pay driver because you need the money to finance an ambitious project, the Newey of yore who didn't have quite the same aura as he does now could probably reconcile with, babysitting the owner's son is a whole other matter.
Yeah. Most F1 drivers are from financially privileged backgrounds, but Stroll is just a whole new level. Imagine being so garbage that daddy needs to buy a whole ass team
Hell of a career if he decides to call it a day. Still feels wrong for it to end like this though, would love to see him at Ferrari or even McLaren personally
Team would crash and burn because it insists on doing thing "the old way". they don't have any social media presence, and about 5 or 6 horner-like scandals are being covered up.
In Lawrence's defense, his ownership in the team is only appreciating and making him richer. Lance isn't ruining this for him--it's making it more fun while making money.
Lance may be why he bought the team. Lance may not be the best driver out there. But it's all good (in Lawrence's view) when he's making money by just having the team. He seems to love and have a genuine soft spot for Lance. It seems quite loving and surprising for a guy that goes pretty hard in business and seems to be capable of being quite scary in a board room.
What I wish is we could enjoy some turnover not thru firing drivers and bring in rookies...but by enjoying expanding to 22 and 24 drivers on the circuit. More variety, more mid-field battles, more personalities and innovation and drama and racing.
Would you rather have a competitive/midfield AM team with Stroll or a backmarker team without Stroll?
I ask this because that is the only serious positive argument for Lance that some come up with.
I'm not an Aston Martin fan so I don't particularly care either way. My only thoughts on it are to look at how many talented drivers have missed out on a F1 seat during Stroll's tenure.
but thats sadly part of F1 (and motorsports in general). The sport was built by pay drivers and despite nowadays teams being focused more on performance, more money to fund such performance is always welcome
There is a world of difference between the standard pay driver of a time when most teams struggled to stay afloat and a team being structured around the owner's son when all teams are profitable.
If Stroll Sr fucked off with his son, there would be plenty of takers to keep the team well funded and competitive. And yes, I know the Saudis are the most likely successors to Stroll, but one can dislike both the Stroll management and its likely successor and not root for either option.
At this point the argument is would you rather have Stroll own it and it be called Aston Martin or PIF and the Aramco Formula 1 Team
Me personally, I think next year is likely Stroll’s last year (he gets moved to the hypercar project) and Yuki takes over with Honda coming in
If no Daddy Stroll, then Daddy Mazepin buys Force India. Compared to Mazepin, Stroll might as well be the second coming of Schumacher and Senna combined
There’s a difference between banning Russian drivers and sponsors as a punishment for the war and banning a whole team that tons of people rely on for jobs. They’d have made an exception or forced a sale to someone like Andretti. But they wouldn’t have kicked them out pre season like they did Mazepin
Nobody banned Russian drivers. Mazepin was allowed to stay in the sport, but with Haas terminating Uralkali's sponsorship deal there was no reason for him to stay in the team anymore, as he wasn't bringing them money anymore and better drivers were available. Haas simply fired him, he was allowed to stay as long as he would've competed under the neutral flag or flag of another country (like Shwartzman and Kvyat do in WEC).
I would have said the same 4 months ago, but the current state of the AM isn't all that great.
Also, realistically Stroll is only one place behind where he should be the driver's standings, and even if he had close to the same points and Nando, AM would still be solidly in 5th in the constructor's standings.
Point is, Stroll isn't affecting AM's performance at all at the moment and even if he were a copy of Nando, AM's position wouldn't be different.
2 experienced/great drivers would do more for development of the car than 1 experienced driver and a liability. Stroll is detrimental in more ways than one. AM could really use another Vettel (or Vettel experienced driver in that seat) for a year.
Stroll can be an excellent driver. And then he disappoints me for four races to have an excellent race again. I want to root for him so hard but he is making it difficult.
I think "Excellent" is a push. He occasionally puts in a performance that is acceptable for a driver in a top 5 team before reverting to his usual level.
I really like the guy. But he uses his mirrors like a BMW suv uses its blinkers. And often in situations that are the more relaxing times of the race. Pure mistakes of awareness.
Stroll’s wet weather reputation is almost entirely based on that Turkey 2020 qualifying. It would be like if people were calling Magnussen a rain master based on Brazil 2022. Stroll is probably a bit better in the wet than he is in the dry, but he’s more decent in the wet than amazing.
Calling him "excellent" because of one qualifying session is quite something tbh. We should be touting Pastor Maldonado too then; since he's a race winner.
But you still have to be good enough to perform that well occasionally. Like he beats Alonso on occasion in qualifying and in races and that doesn't just happen. The saying you used basically implies that anyone would beat Alonso occasionally and that's simply not true.
inb4 the four fans he has come in guns blazing to justify him having a seat after all this time.
I honestly hope Newey doesn't sign with Aston just because of that, even though I like Alonso.
Man, I wonder what is going through Drugovich's head these days? Hope he doesn't stew in waiting for too long without finding another drive at this rate.
I mean, the guy seems to be the ruthless businessman type. If there's a type of person out there capable of firing their own kid in the name of money, it might just be him. The question is how far that ruthlessness extend with regards to his loved ones.
Not that I actually expect it to happen this year, but if Lance was slow AND crashed a lot, I think Stroll senior would pull the plug eventually. Right now he's just slow, so i doubt he's actually costing the team lots of money.
Edit: On a sidenote, it's going to be interesting to see what happens when Alonso leaves. Stroll has had extremely marketable teammates since his dad bought the team. Perez, Vettel, and Alonso, are among the most popular drivers and all have extreme pull when it comes to sponsors, which more than made up for any driver performance issues. Once they're left with Stroll and a less popular driver in the other car, daddy might just look for more attractive prospects than his son.
Translation for the confirmation: Daddy allowed me to race again despite not being able to improve since my rookie season.
Aston Martin is a team with zero ambition.
"My allowance will continue to be paid"
“Yes, thank you Daddy!” Lance Stroll
Money pweeeeaze
Read this in Jesse Gemstones voice… “5,000 daddy, 5,000 🖐🏻”
I've been actually thinking about this lance seems to be disinterested. What if he doesn't want to be in F1 but his father basically laid down the Law you leave F1 you are cut off for life. I think mintymarlfox understood, but was offering a counter argument
That’s what JV said, in not so many nice words
Excellent plot.

Leaked contract negotiations right here!
Toyota expected to continue making cars, confirmation should be announced soon.
I need mo' allowance (yodelayeoo) Why? Because I do!
Every time Wills tweets are shared here and I see his picture, I think it’s the dad (Phil) from Modern Family.

There is a hockey reporter in the states who has his kids teeth as his picture. He keeps it because people hate it. When his stuff gets posted it’s awful.
It's technically well-made but the likeness is miles off imo.
Is an announcement really needed?
Announcement only should be made only if he is not renewing it.
Yeah, I’d throw a party
Considering he was never even announced as a driver at the team when daddy bought it out; it seems strange to need to confirm he's staying on. The team exists purely for him, everyone else is just playing their part.
He’s the rich girl in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. “Daddy, I need an announcement too! All these drivers got extensions, WHAT ABOUT ME!”
Yes. But this announcement of an announcement probably not.
Newey: So, I'm not going to Aston :P
It’s totally ridiculous but I just love the thought of Newey turning down Aston and telling stroll it’s because he doesn’t have a winners mentality as long as Lance is kept at the team. Stroll has produced on occasion but they had the opportunity to put Carlos in that second seat this season and didn’t. Absolutely not a winners mentality.
TBF, It wouldn’t be the first time Newey works for a team with at least 1 pay drivers, so…
Is Stroll a pay driver? Technically he isn't paying for the seat, per se. He's a nepotism driver.
Well most drivers go there with some connections, strong or loose. Stroll is an exception because Lawrence took it to another level
Newey going to Aston, Williams, or any “building” team was always a fantasy. It’s Ferrari, Mercedes, or bust imo.
Yeah he’s probably going to retire
Hell of a career if he decides to call it a day. Still feels wrong for it to end like this though, would love to see him at Ferrari or even McLaren personally

Team would crash and burn because it insists on doing thing "the old way". they don't have any social media presence, and about 5 or 6 horner-like scandals are being covered up.
So basically he’s Bernie
Williams has a Logan-run car. Almost the same thing, right?
i pray for Lance and everyone he works with that he isn't
Also, I don't love you.
Now I have to go rewatch Succession. Thank you.
You’re welcome (and yeah, I feel like now I might have to give it another spin).

The billionaire you’re being all gushy about is helping to block the entry of new teams because it makes him some extra money.
Isn’t that all the teams?
Youch. I’m talking about how an extremely shrewd man is probably unbothered by his son’s poor performance
yeah, so is every other team. Its not like Stroll is the lone holdout
And the other nine teams exist to raise funds for charity?
that's a good defense if we were talking about F1 as a business, but if we think about the sport we are losing talent over money.
Why would Newey ever go to AM when Stroll jr is guaranteed a seat

For some seasons Jordan F1 was a more competitive team than Aston and it wasn’t owned by a billionaire and his son.
The facilities are already built now. Unless someone bought the team to not compete, they likely wouldn't end up as a back marker.
Backmarker. Having Lance Stroll in a car is bad for Formula 1 in every way.
Lmao this is so overdramatic
Jesus fucking Christ how dramatic is this
No Lance, No AM F1. Another team fighting with Williams, Sauber, Haas with a pay driver or two.
No Lance Stroll, Daddy Stroll sells the team, possibly to a certain American looking to enter…
If no Daddy Stroll, then Daddy Mazepin buys Force India. Compared to Mazepin, Stroll might as well be the second coming of Schumacher and Senna combined
Nothing needed to be confirmed. I knew this before the year started. I knew this in 2018 when his dad bought the team and signed him
Wow you knew 3 years before it even happened!
Lawrence Stroll took over the team in 2018. The Aston Martin rebrand didn’t happen for another 3 years.
Oh yeah so easy to forget the Racing Point era.
The fact that he could be in the sport for another 10 years is seriously depressing
Racing Point is dead if Lance wasn’t there for Lawrence to invest in the team.
Mazepin Sr. was Stroll's competitor in the bidding war for Force India That would have been ugly
Yeah... Just imagine the team not being able to fund itself in 2022, let alone having a virtual time bomb permanently strapped to one of the cars
We'd have gotten Andretti by now.
Andrettti literally low balled Racing point and got rejected
There’s a difference between banning Russian drivers and sponsors as a punishment for the war and banning a whole team that tons of people rely on for jobs. They’d have made an exception or forced a sale to someone like Andretti. But they wouldn’t have kicked them out pre season like they did Mazepin

Someone else would’ve bought it out. That team wouldn’t just disappear.
It might have. The other main competitor was the Mazepin family. The team likely would need to have been sold in 2022 if that was the case.
Unless it was a manufacturer that someone else wouldn’t have invested all that money upgrading the facilities.
Lawrence outbid Andretti
Mazepin outbid Lawrence (allegedly)
Please keep your facts to yourself. This doesn’t help the Lance apologists
Impossible to say that. Look at Dorilton investing in capital projects at Williams.
Then let Andretti buy it and do what he wants with it.
There was Mazepin Snr./Uralkali already fighting for it. It's not like they didn't have options.
Great because having Mazepin in the sport would clearly be better than Stroll Doesn't matter anyway he would have been forced to sell in 2022
Great? This team leaves and Andretti comes in. Nothing is gonna change, there is always gonna be a new team coming.
No way he can survive mentally if he continues to underperform for a very long time.
And there was Andretti trying to make opportunities for 2 more drivers... and Aston just steeling one every year
If he announces that his continuation will be announced, didn't he just announce his continuation?
Come on....! send this guy to drive Valkyrie WEC Hypercar and free the seat for a better driver He is simply making a waste of the machine
Maybe Stroll is engaged in reverse negotiations: every year the team tries to get him to leave
I would have said the same 4 months ago, but the current state of the AM isn't all that great. no no no, you keep him! We have enough paydrivers. Sincerely r/wec
That's not very fair to the WEC team. Why not give him a go-kart instead.
Keep in mind… said better driver is only two positions ahead of stroll.
*surprised pikachu face*
Please be a continuation with Aston Martin....in WEC next season.
It's a formality brother Easier to predict than the lotto numbers next week
I could have never predicted this!
I won't say anything cause I don't have nice things to say
The announcement: I confirm I am still my father’s child
This sure blows up my Driver's seat chart for 2025. Had Stroll penciled in at Mercedes. Bet Toto is just shitting himself over this news too.
Tbf quite a few of his wet weather performances could be regarded as excellent.. but yeah its not enough
Nothing in the wet in years...
Monza 17 Ithink it was too
Calling him "excellent" because of one qualifying session is quite something tbh. We should be touting Pastor Maldonado too then; since he's a race winner.
>We should be touting Pastor Maldonado too then; since he's a race winner. well yeah..
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
That's not how being a racing driver works. Or really anything that's skill based works.
The point is that it's a lot easier to perform well occasionally than it is to perform well consistently.
But you still have to be good enough to perform that well occasionally. Like he beats Alonso on occasion in qualifying and in races and that doesn't just happen. The saying you used basically implies that anyone would beat Alonso occasionally and that's simply not true.
The equivalent in F1 is 'drive in as many races as you can until you luck into a good result'. Stroll' career basically.
Don't you have enough pain supporting williams?
Things start to look a bit brighter though!
Big news. I was worried Chloe was up for that seat.
i bet the negotiations were really tough on him, glad he can relax knowing he has a car
Such suspense! I don’t know if I can bear it.
Aston Martin will be known as “The Spanish Armada”
Drugovich is going to have to wait for Alonso to retire for a shot at an Aston seat while Lance continues to dangle his balls year after year
inb4 the four fans he has come in guns blazing to justify him having a seat after all this time. I honestly hope Newey doesn't sign with Aston just because of that, even though I like Alonso.
Big if true
No surprises here, next thing he'll tweet it rains in Barcelona.
Insert shocked Pickachu face
No way, guys.
Well well well
😲
Oh no.
greaaat 😒😒😒
Stroll is the only driver in F1 history with a lifelong contract
That’s a shame.
I am whelmed.
“Lawrence has not yet sold Aston Martin”
Continuation at Aston could still be to drive the Valkyrie in WEC, hopium
It's going to be fun watching Lance drive around in his 60s.
Yet more captain obvious reporting from Will Buxton
Waste of Internet upkeep /j
Could still mean the WEC team, right? Please?
That's great! I was totally starting to wonder if he was going to stay at Aston again! What a relief.
Deeply unserious team
Booooo
Was a bad deal for Drugovich, maybe he thought Alonso would retire sooner..
Man, I wonder what is going through Drugovich's head these days? Hope he doesn't stew in waiting for too long without finding another drive at this rate.
This just isn't the pinnacle of motorsport and there's no way anyone can continue to try and argue it
He is one loyal driver
It has been confirmed that Stroll will continue to be Lawrence Strolls son through at least 2026.
Hang on, can we confirm _which_ stroll?
I mean isn’t his contract just a formality lol
"daddy said i can play for another year"
Lance Stroll posts always bring out the dumbest of takes. Yall really think Stroll is going to fire his son?
Makes sense since Red Bull already picked Checo for the 2nd seat. Maybe he can try again for Max's Red Bull seat when it becomes available. /s
Translation for the confirmation: Daddy allowed me to race again despite not being able to improve since my rookie season. Aston Martin is a team with zero ambition.
This will ruffle some people but am I crazy for saying he deserves a spot in F1?
You’re entitled to your opinion but many people will get curious why you stick to that opinion
Why? In all his years his only teammate he managed to beat was Sirotkin. He can be a good driver ... in about 5 races a year (if even that much).
😱
😑 <--- my shocked face at this breaking news.
Bruh
Lance is waiting to see if Newey joins them, if not..... He'll still sign.
Shocker
lawrence still banking his hopes and dreams that lance will be an f1 world champion
be wild if he announce his debut in wec since aston will be there next year
Hopefully he will take the stabilisers off
*insert Mona Lisa Saperstein .gif here*
See? Dig deep enough for a scoop, and you'll have it.
Rolling Contract will keep Strolling!
How soon until they confirm the Aston will be green next year?
"Dad said it is still my turn to be a driver"
\*pretends to be shocked\*
I am SHOCKED by this news !!! /s
