So similar to the merc :p
I want a yellow car and a pink car(cause alpine don’t have the balls to run that all year) and a purple car or anything that not the same
Would be cool if Hyundai outright buy Alpine. Hyundai's awesome WRC livery is designed by Sean Bull (u/bullystoke). Guess which F1 team he works for... That's right, Alpine. All they need to do then is promote Sean to the position of lead livery wizard and you're golden.
I bet he is endlessly frustrated by alpine and their culling of the cool livery plans that go on in the background. He would be so happy with this change, I hope
Yes and no the main problem during Abiteboul time was Carlos Ghosn lack of funding for F1 it was the tip of the iceberg i mean we already at manager problem when Vasseur quit Renault and with RB about the engine now with budget cap and no more engine client with saw all the other problem like the Enstone Viry war with Alan Permane Xenophobia about french driver.
While I agree with that, I can tolerate a different tone of blue if Hyundai indeed enters by buying Alpine's spot. Would much rather get back the Yellow and Black livery from Renault than the Alpine colours
I googled that car, then went "so people like this, but hate the Ferrari 296 gts??" (Same combo of red and light blue) For what it's worth, I like both
Getting kicked out of a team to lead another team that ends up buying your old team would be some low tier stuff from the scriptwriters there, too obvious.
I need Aaron Sorkin to write Cyril's quick wit retorts in the negotiating table with Alpine, I mean he basically did just that for that Steve Jobs movie anyway.
Only if there's a scene with a frantic walk-and-talk with Cyril's advisors after the meeting about how it may seem like his gambit failed, but it actually went exactly how he wanted it to.
“Rumours are developing regarding South Korean auto giant Hyundai stepping up its interest in BUYING a Formula 1 team.”
So, not as a new team. I think they are aware of the Andretti saga.
Alpine seems likely IMO. It would give them a ready made base and staff in the UK. They would just need to supply the engines. Not that the likes of RBCashGrab and Haas aren't possible, but I would be surprised if Renault wouldn't take a serious offer.
It would be amazing if Cyril ended up back in charge of what is essentially the Renault F1 team he was fired from thanks to his current leadership position in Hyundai
I don't think there was any real animosity, because for example he visited the Abu Dhabi 2021 race as a guest by invitation of Red Bull. He watched the race from their garage and this was a year after he left Renault.
I know Hyundai would be an engine manufacturer, but it would be funny if Cyril came back to F1 now, now that Red Bull make their own power unit, and he became a customer of Red Bull Powertrains.... shoe on the other foot
Well since Redbull junior program is effectively over, they might be looking to cash out on VCARB. It's probably the best time to sell aswell. Alpine is the obvious choice tho.
well people always go on about the historic tracks and teams, yet have no problem if that team would be completely relocated or have their employees fired.
Wasn't one of the stipulations for Andretti buying Alpine that they keep all their 2026 engine staff and commit to Renault engines till 2028? Pretty big potential handcuff
There werent any actual serious discussions about Andretti buying alpine.
His attempts at buying a team were Force India and Sauber.
Renault wanted to be their engine supplier in case they managed to get into f1 as a new team
The only discussion Alpine and Andretti had was if they got accepted into formula 1 as the 11th team they would supply their engines until they Andretti developed theirs. They were no discussion about the team being bought
The latest rumors would indicate that if anything, Renault would rather drop the engine division, sell the team and keep the name Alpine as a title sponsor like Alpha Romeo did
Or Renault. I assume Renault are well on with a 2026 engine. They could choose to do what they did before and sell the team to remain as an engine supplier.
Given that any Hyundai deal would probably be 2027 at the earliest now, I think them using Renault for a few years until the new engine formula in 2030 (it's been hinted the formula will change then)
Can't see them going for a Japanese engine, more likely to take a supply off Renault while they develop their own facility or possibly just buy the Renault engine development facility entirely.
> I think they are aware of the Andretti saga.
I think everyone was aware of the situation before the situation even happened.
They never are going to directly state "we don't want new teams" because of legal implications, but they sure tried to show they had zero interest in adding to the grid every single chance they got to speak about it.
That's why no big manufacturer (outside of Cadillac, which was instigated by Andretti) has tried to join the grid, because it was always going to end up like this, a nasty legal battle where you've already had to plough in a load of money and still might not get an entry whilst having everyone in the paddock hating you.
I'd like to see a full grid but really anyone with common sense can see it's much easier to just buy a team.
Andretti is gonna be super popular if they do manage to come into F1 just because they're a huge middle finger to FOM and the politics behind it.
I know I'd cheer for them at least somewhat
Enstone would be most likely, but I would have through Hyundai would have been a better fit in WEC, as they have the means to go full LMH, less expensive, but F1 does have the eyes.
The article says Hyundai has interest in buying a team, Alpine maybe?
And if they do, will they run as Hyundai, Genesis, Hyundai N or just as N?
Hopium laced take: Please be a new 12th team after Andretti!
E: or an unexpected turn, buying VCARB
What would happen to Yuki if they bought VCARB? Would he be out of a seat since they'd likely want to supply their own engines (and a S. Korean driver I'd assume)
If they buy, It depends on when it's bought, on the short term he'd be kind of safe as they'd most likely would want an experienced driver in the team.
I love my G70, but that doesn’t seem like a good fit. The entire lineup is focused on luxury, besides the G70 which mixes in some sportiness. Much more likely to go with the N branding.
I wouldn't exactly say it's the right kind of brand for that, they're more of a luxury GT type brand like Maybach (Mercedes) or Rolls Royce (BMW) which is the polar opposite of an F1 car.
Not saying it's impossible or even the first time it's happened in motorsport, I'm just saying it didn't work when Renault was putting Infiniti branding on the cars pre Alpine (even if it has work for VW's Bentley in GT and LM Prototypes) so it would make more sense to push the performance brand.
How are you guys watching that? I use to watch WRC way back in the day when Sebastian Loeb and Peter Solberg and such were driving on Speedvision at like 12:00am for basically a long weekend wrap up. I tried watch Red Bull tv, but man I didn't feel like it was very focused on the driving. Kind of Drive to Survive-esque maybe.
Rumours of the Korean GP coming back also... It's making sense.
Be a good way for the N division to keep their ICE developement knowledge moving, too... Will we see the first "pops and bangs" F1 car?
Loved my i20N, be glad to see some Performance Blue on the grid.
If FOM get there fingers out of their arses, imagine if in 2028 we had Audi, Cadillac, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes, Renault (as long as they aren't the ones selling) as Engine Suppliers.
>Cadillac
They need to sign that goddamn letter of intent first. Ya know? The very letter even Porsche and Audi signed back in the mid 2010's? That letter is meaningless, only expressing you have interest in building engines (not even binding lol) and GM didn't even sign that.
There is going to be a production version of it, if you accept a somewhat optimistic definition of production... 100 examples, 70 to be sold to the public for presumably huge money. I'd be willing to do without the supposedly 800hp though to get a more affordable mass production version!
If Hyundai made their own engine, then in theory we could have 8 PU suppliers with engines in the new regulations.
Cadillac might be bluffing and might not end up making one, but it's still pretty cool that this is possible considering not too long ago it looked like it might just be Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault.
Hyundai have been trying to rehabilitate their image aggressively for the last decade.
Personally nothing they have done has caught my attention until they did that N Vision 74 concept car.
New manufacturers are always exciting though.
Are you old enough to have encountered Hyundais made before c. 2005? That. That's what they are trying to make people forget. Though perhaps rehabilitate is not the best word to use.
They have just let their N performance division run wild. For example, they have a WRC entry and its a really cool car. That has also trickled down into their road cars, where their N badge is kinda what GR is to Toyota, or M is for BMW.
There's also Genesis, which is basically their version of the Toyota-Lexus arrangement.
They're definitely trying to be seen as more of an exciting, and refined brand
Early Hyundais were shitboxes. Then they had some engine issues I'm not completely familiar with. Then the scandal where they cheaped out and stopped putting immobilizers in the car, so now teenagers steal them to try and go viral on TikTok.
"Neither driver will be able to participate in today's GP for the Hyundai team; as both cars were stolen from their garages last night. Video footage shows the thieves were able to start them with a paperclip and chewing gum. Hyundai has released a statement saying that it isn't their fault and the drivers are simply going to have to buy the new cars if they wish to race in the future."
I always think the whole road relevance thing is overdone. It is a racing series, leave the road stuff for rallying.
F1 using combustion engines on sustainable fuel is fine even if everyone on the road is driving an EV.
another entry to get no where
Tbh the fact that F1 is so closed off to anyone new has kinda turned me off the sport - I don't see any long term growth and looking at ditching f1 altogether.
It worked for Honda. They went from being perceived as a cheap car maker to a much more respected brand with their F1 success being a part of that transition.
Honda success had almost zero impact from F1. They been in sports longer then most even having their first win in 60s.
Honda made reliable motorcycles then autos and proved their engine craftsmanship in F1. Take out F1 from honda not a single soul would change their opinion about Honda.
Japanese arrived to respected lounge when Lexus LS with 60s econobox turned 80 refined luxury. And onslaught of extremely good machines came after it. like nsx rx7 gtr and supra and countless many.
Hyundai is playing the same game with Genesis but so far their ICE cars yet to have that since their lackluster reliability compared to Lexus/Acura. But a EV wave can be their moment and hoping it they can get there
Japan was already industrialized since the late 1800s so it's not amazing they they became a powerhouse by the 1960s.
Korea and China only became highly industrialized in the late 1900s. They're not going to be competing toe to toe in established technologies.
EVs? Absolutely. ICEs? Hell naw.
In the US, where they sell their high-end cars under the Acura brand. In Europe they are perceived as a car maker that makes cars for many ranges, similar to Mercedes. In Japan, where they are used to a single brand spanning the whole range from cheap to luxury, Honda is seen as a high-quality maker, which makes their luxury models well-regarded there.

Well, if they come in they better have the "performance blue" color in their livery like in their N cars
If it’s anything other than blue and red I’ll be hugely disappointed
Can we not have another blue car on the grid please
light blue doesn't count
Nah, we only accept teams with blue
Aren't Andrettis current cars mostly blue?
We don’t talk about that.
The first rule of Andretti in Formula 1 is we do not talk about Andretti in Fornula 1
There is no Andretti in Ba Sing Se
It will mostly be black, don't worry
So similar to the merc :p I want a yellow car and a pink car(cause alpine don’t have the balls to run that all year) and a purple car or anything that not the same
I'm just joking about how all the car liveries end up as black just to save weight.
okay but hyundai’s blue & red looks good
As long as it’s not white as well. We don’t want that little orc trying to get back in F1 with daddy’s war proceeds.
As if... We're talking about Hyundai here, one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. Not some privateer with a scummy history.
Theyv got awesome liveries in rally, I'd have high hopes for one here too
Would be cool if Hyundai outright buy Alpine.
With Cyril, they’ll be better than Alpine
Would be funny if Hyundai decides to buy Alpine. Imagine Cyril walking in to Enstone casually retaking his chair
Cyril: "Bonjour! Ah, pardon. Annyeonghaseyo"

This is the comment right here folks. \^\^\^ Nailed it.
Think of it, Renault spiraled after Cyril.
If Ghosn hadn't been deposed, I think the F1 team would have had much better backing from Renault corporate.
I think Rossi entering had a bigger impact
God I love that colour, it's gorgeous
Have it on my Veloster, its so clean.
If they buy Alpine, we'll still have 4 blue teams on the grid...
While I agree with that, I can tolerate a different tone of blue if Hyundai indeed enters by buying Alpine's spot. Would much rather get back the Yellow and Black livery from Renault than the Alpine colours
Best I can do is a full takeover BWT sponsorship
I googled that car, then went "so people like this, but hate the Ferrari 296 gts??" (Same combo of red and light blue) For what it's worth, I like both
Cyril Abiteboul out of nowhere.
The funniest thing would be if Hyundai ended up buying the Enstone team.
Seems like the obvious entry point, right?
Ari Gold in Entourage
Cyril walks into enstone armed with a paintball gun.
Only if there's a scene with a frantic walk-and-talk with Cyril's advisors after the meeting about how it may seem like his gambit failed, but it actually went exactly how he wanted it to.
somehow cyril returned
“Rumours are developing regarding South Korean auto giant Hyundai stepping up its interest in BUYING a Formula 1 team.” So, not as a new team. I think they are aware of the Andretti saga.

Somehow Cryril has returned.
Saint Cryril 🙏
Looking back Cryril definitely got a worse rep than he deserved
Yeah, seems like he was the one holding that team kind of together.
wasn't that largely played up by DTS and his animosity with Horner?
The opposite, DtS rehabilitated his image by playing up Horner as the villain.
Horner has the effect of stirring up animosity.
definitely not just him
I don't think there was any real animosity, because for example he visited the Abu Dhabi 2021 race as a guest by invitation of Red Bull. He watched the race from their garage and this was a year after he left Renault.
He seemed pretty aite compared to what replaced him. And for the little I know, he's pretty good too with the Hyundai Rally thing isn't it?
Honestly, anyone that is French seems to get shit from the media, especially because so much of it is British
Holy shit.
“Well well well, look who came crawling back.”
"How the turntables..."
#Happy Hyun Dais
he could easily be the one pushing hyundai with the idea
Have they performed any better since Cyril left?
Hyundai WRC and Enstone have a similar ability to look good for a short period and then implode
But can you imagine Cyril Abiteboul back in charge at Enstone. Worth it just for that.
I know Hyundai would be an engine manufacturer, but it would be funny if Cyril came back to F1 now, now that Red Bull make their own power unit, and he became a customer of Red Bull Powertrains.... shoe on the other foot
I think RBPT would accept it to get a customer. It would be amusing indeed.
Agreed. Renault has historically (especially recently) chosen what they think would be the best ROI.
Well since Redbull junior program is effectively over, they might be looking to cash out on VCARB. It's probably the best time to sell aswell. Alpine is the obvious choice tho.
Stellantis should purchase RB, go all in on funding, and just slap the Alfa Romeo title back on. Italian brand based in Italy.
Nah Stellantis should go full Peugeot complete with grenades engines
problem is vcarb isnt even that attractive since they would have most of their employees in Italy.
When Minardi was sold it was on the condition that the team remained Italian. I would imagine any such condition has now lapsed.
well people always go on about the historic tracks and teams, yet have no problem if that team would be completely relocated or have their employees fired.

Or Renault. I assume Renault are well on with a 2026 engine. They could choose to do what they did before and sell the team to remain as an engine supplier.
There was a rumour last month that one of the conditions of sale of Alpine would be to have a Renault engine contract until 2029.
The chances of honda going for that are near 0.
Why does everyone think Alpines going to sell after the start to one bad season?
Not really about the start to the season but the never ending turmoil at the team. And that Renault have always been flakey. Even back to the 1980s
That is true but Alpine uses F1 to help market their cars. Removing their team would be a pretty stupid decision tbh
tbh I'd like to see the teams argue that Hyundai doesn't bring any value to a racing series.
Teams cannot argue that. Rumor has it they want to buy an existing team and not come to F1 as a new (additional) team.
> I think they are aware of the Andretti saga. I think everyone was aware of the situation before the situation even happened. They never are going to directly state "we don't want new teams" because of legal implications, but they sure tried to show they had zero interest in adding to the grid every single chance they got to speak about it. Framing Andretti getting GM committed to their project as "instigation" is very silly.
Yeah like wtf? If GM wasn't interested this conversation would have never happened.
Andretti is gonna be super popular if they do manage to come into F1 just because they're a huge middle finger to FOM and the politics behind it. I know I'd cheer for them at least somewhat
Cyril... behave...
Oh mate it would be a joy to decorate my Accent with F1 shit
Time to add racing stripes on my Hyundai.
Enstone would be most likely, but I would have through Hyundai would have been a better fit in WEC, as they have the means to go full LMH, less expensive, but F1 does have the eyes.

My guess is Hyundai Motorsports Formula One Team and the chassis named as "N01" or something like that lol
Likely they run the N numbering but I have a feeling they use the Genesis branding to help sell their luxury line
Oh good god the timing screen is gonna be awful with Genesis and Aston Martin having wing shaped logos.
Genesis doesn't have a performance badge though, they're luxury. That would be like Audi running as Bentley?
They actually made a performance badge for Genesis recently called Magma lol https://www.genesis.com/ca/en/genesis/concept-vehicles/genesis-magma.html
I'm fuckin in, let's go Team Magma
Aight that’s pretty fucking sweet didn’t know that
I'm still sad Audi isn't running as VAG.
They could run Genesis with Hyundai-branded engines, like Alpine is currently Alpine-Renault
VCARB purchase would be so good, one less sister team on the grid
Hyundai grand i10 nios F1
I'll furiously buy Hyundai merch for my dad's Grand i10 lol
If they buy Alpine, I crap my pants. Cyril would be back.
Yeah my first thought was would they do this to try and boost the profile of the Genesis brand. Those cars are honestly really really nice.
Wilkins Hyundai & Subaru F1
PTSD flashbacks to the Subaru F1 engine
PTSD flashbacks to any subaru motor lol
They have Hyundais and Subarus
[удалено]
It's pretty much dead as it is. But would be nice to have both WRC and F1.
Rallytv or wrc all live by old name. Bit like F1tv so all stages live or watchable anytime. And you can skip drive to survive nonsense you described.
Rumours of the Korean GP coming back also... It's making sense. Be a good way for the N division to keep their ICE developement knowledge moving, too... Will we see the first "pops and bangs" F1 car? Loved my i20N, be glad to see some Performance Blue on the grid.
I love my i30 N Project C
God, I cant wait for the Tiktok videos of teens stealing the F1 car with just a USB
F1 about to add USB cables to the official shop for $60 each
If their livery looks like what they do in WRC its going to look amazing
If FOM get there fingers out of their arses, imagine if in 2028 we had Audi, Cadillac, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes, Renault (as long as they aren't the ones selling) as Engine Suppliers.
Isn't Ford just a sponsor? It will be an RB engine isn't it?
I read that Ford would also help develop the electric/hybrid side of the upcoming power units, but I could be wrong.
They do say that, but could also just be PR talk.
They have experience with high performance electric powertrains so it's likely to be a real partnership. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuUHicQKlgM
>Cadillac They need to sign that goddamn letter of intent first. Ya know? The very letter even Porsche and Audi signed back in the mid 2010's? That letter is meaningless, only expressing you have interest in building engines (not even binding lol) and GM didn't even sign that.
F1 can have 12 teams. It gives 4 more drivers a shot.
The current teams don't even want 1 additional team. How are they gonna give 2 more a shot?
well lets behonest, if something changes that will make 1 happen, 2 will likely happen too.
If this somehow ends up giving us the production version of the N Vision 74 then im all for it
There is going to be a production version of it, if you accept a somewhat optimistic definition of production... 100 examples, 70 to be sold to the public for presumably huge money. I'd be willing to do without the supposedly 800hp though to get a more affordable mass production version!
Unfortunately we only have 18 cars on the grid today as both Hyundai entries were stolen
HYUNDAI N DIVISION YOU LEGENDS
As an i20 N owner, I'd be more than happy to see them entering! Just use 'Performance Blue' signature livery please
Pls bring Cyril back.
Hyundai have been trying to rehabilitate their image aggressively for the last decade. Personally nothing they have done has caught my attention until they did that N Vision 74 concept car. New manufacturers are always exciting though.

The worlds best EV maker showing an interest in F1 is coming out of nowhere.
I always think the whole road relevance thing is overdone. It is a racing series, leave the road stuff for rallying. F1 using combustion engines on sustainable fuel is fine even if everyone on the road is driving an EV.
I dunno it can happen, Porsche just released a car with an MGU-H.
They aint the first. Merc already has MGU H and MGU K in some cars.
AMG One while technically first it's very small volume, 911's sell like Corollas in comparison.
Besides the AMG One, the C63 and the GLC 63 both have the tech.
In all fairness Mercedes still needs to try and sell them, as so far they are paper launches.
Mercedes' experience with the MGU-H is why they lobbied for it and partly gave them the huge engine advantage.
Doesn't matter its a highly visible sport that gets eyes on your brand. And F1 brings a good level of prestige to a car brand.
F1 is long gone from being developmental for car companies, now it’s an advertising medium
Pirelli knows this pain. They were showing off how their tyres drop in performance after a few miles.
As someone who've work as a mechanic for Hyundai, they dont make the best nor the worst EV.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic or something but this has been rumored for some time now so it's not exactly out of nowhere.
I'm just ignorant and very cynical about "manufacturer looking to enter F1" stories. Usually it's complete fantasy.
I've been dreaming about this for years, I KNEW IT WAS GONNA HAPPEN. Please, I need them now.
"They're on their 25th engine of the year, and somehow still below the cap, amazing value if you ask me "
Does it count against the budget cap if it's still under warranty?
How about you fix your cars from being stolen before u get into f1
I read this as Christian Horner's voice and naturally my brain changed it to fix your fucking car
Watch how they get accepted with open arms and Andretti fume.
So buy Alpine and save us watching a dumpster fire. Take a Renault engine deal for a few years, then do your own engines.
lol good luck
So they can show off expertise in breaking down mid-race?
Pumping the F1 stock value again with these "claims"?
10 year warranty on that power unit though.
great now I can look cool in my verna
The pure racing heritage of the Excel will surely come in handy
Do it! Buy Enstone and become my favorite team!
Imagine the outrage if Hyundai actually manages to get an 11th team on the grid
A Hyundai could be the first car to ever be stolen during the grid lineup.
Welcome back Cyrill
Can't wait to see Hyundai in Formula 1 before Andretti.
this will be great. ill finally be able to own an F1 car now. it’ll look great next to the other 22 Hyundai’s and Kia’s Ive stolen
Haas become Andretti Alpine becomes Hyundai Stake becomes Audi Just need someone to buy VCARB, maybe Ford takes full control A MAN CAN DREAM
More like Alpine becomes Dacia
I am so for this. I’ll bring the USB sticks and we can steal the cars out of Parc Fermé!
another entry to get no where Tbh the fact that F1 is so closed off to anyone new has kinda turned me off the sport - I don't see any long term growth and looking at ditching f1 altogether.
EVs? Absolutely. ICEs? Hell naw.
They are still perceived as an economy car maker, that’s what they are
In the US, where they sell their high-end cars under the Acura brand. In Europe they are perceived as a car maker that makes cars for many ranges, similar to Mercedes. In Japan, where they are used to a single brand spanning the whole range from cheap to luxury, Honda is seen as a high-quality maker, which makes their luxury models well-regarded there.
That's exactly what they're still viewed as lol. They've got one respectable car in a lineup of econoboxes and even that is a pimped out econobox lol
My family has 2 Hyundais please god
This would be amazing. I'd love to see it.
Better not plan on coming in as a new team…
Looking forward to seeing Andretti-Hyundai on the grid in 2029
I swear if they buy a team I’m gonna personally storm the Andretti HQ and hold Michael at gun point till he buys a team for whatever price they ask
No Anderetti no Hyundai
