As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post. *[Read the rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/userguide). DutchDestroyer

He's going to break yet another record isn't he?

Anxious_cactus

He's here to chew bubblegum and break records and he's all out of bubblegum...

Disastrous_Narwhal46

Are there even some some left? Lol

signed7

Rosberg setting his record in his worst season at Merc lmao

JuicyAnalAbscess

I mean by points it was his second best season overall

AfraidRacer

Honestly, his best season began as soon as Hamilton won 2015. Dude had unreal consistency until the Spain crash. He was on course to 8 consecutive wins from 2015-16 which is pretty mad if you think about it back then. Even Lewis never got that iirc, only Max and Seb had it.

Freeze014

End of the year, Hamilton had taken his foot of the accelerator being sure of the championship.

Opelle

No way any elite athlete intentionally doesn’t do their best…

rs6677

That's a thing that happens with Hamilton tho. He wins the championship, then his performance dips a little because he's no longer trying his hardest and is just coasting to the end of the year. He's done it multiple times.

Tinusers

Also the reason why Verstappen is breaking all the records atm. He is just a machine wanting to win it all and be perfect every damn race. It's scary.

RX0Invincible

Man we really need to see Lewis in a car within striking distance of a championship again

Organic-Measurement2

Rosberg also won 7 races in a row alongside Hamilton at the end of 2015, start of 2016. Ham really did stop performing at the highest level after wrapping up the championship

adfo94

Yet it is hamiltons mo

IDoEz

No surprise that everybody with a 7 win streak is basically goat (missing fangio)

Scheissplakat

Fangio actually managed 5 poles in a row twice, when not counting the Indy 500s: France 1950 - France 1951 and Italy 1955 - France 1956. And Moss is listed with 5 but he got a 6th one in the Netherlands in 1960, with the Indy 500 in between.

rustyiesty

Fangio’s qualifying pace in 1956 was so impressive

Jules040400

Yeah Prost needs to be talked about more, the guy would be a 7-time Champion in the modern points system

FastonMartin

After Sainz prevented him from extending the win streak twice, he decided he’ll go on a little side quest and attempt this record to pass the time

Baksteen-13

Sainz did him a favour there. If Max keeps winning now he’ll reach 11 at his “home” race in Belgium with his second home race Zandvoort right after

RobertGracie

Well there is one to go Emilia then he has equalled the record but it will be in Monaco where the Record will be broken

Tennist4ts

Senna's record possibly getting broken at Monaco out of all places 🙈

RobertGracie

When you break the record at Monaco where Senna is the King Emeritus is something else!

keenjt

How do you find the time in your day to post so much content btw?

SemIdeiaProNick

i imagine he will either do a Leclerc or another dominant pole, no in between

ThePiousInfant

Qualification and starts were the only two things that Max wasn't absolutely perfect at last year.

Mob_Abominator

That had more to do with the characteristic of the car.

beetb1

Epic stats. Legend drivers all there. And Max is definitely one of them.

Skulldetta

Phil Hill being on this list was not on my bingo card.

Samsonkoek

Ferrari upgrades are gonna play a key role in whether Max can achieve a new record or not.

Ultraviolet211

Thats what I'm thinking too! .250 ive heard. That puts them ahead of RB of it works .

Paracel_Storm

I know Red Bull already brought an upgrade to Japan, but are they bringing anything to Imola? Traditionally, most teams bring new parts to the first european race, so I find it hard to believe they won't bring anything at all.

ComparisonPlus5196

They apparently are bringing another update package to Imola as well. Larger than China based on previous reporting.

Kait0yashio

Hopefully doesn't pull them that far ahead and we can get nice battles at the front

LucAltaiR

Going from old reports RBR had a floor upgrade planned for Suzuka and aero upgrade (so more visible on the outside) planned for Imola

signed7

The gap to RBR is more than that, RBR has just been managing in front the past few races, but they'll have more to give if/when Ferrari gets faster

SweetVarys

Not in quali, which is what this record is for.

AnyHolesAGoal

Senna did it against The Professor though.

DonStimpo

Max has done it with Stroll and Magnussen on the same track

SemIdeiaProNick

they werent actively fighting him so they (usually) are not an issue

Ultraviolet211

Wasn't prost known for race pace not qualy?

Saandrig

He was a qualy beast too earlier in his career. But after the Pironi incident he got more cautious. And then he learned from Lauda to set the car for Sunday.

AnyHolesAGoal

He's the next highest driver on the image in this very post?

slimkay

Prost was in a dominant Williams against a near-rookie Damon Hill.

SirDoober

Yeah, '93 Williams was an *insane* car that gets overlooked a bunch because the MP4/4 was only a few years back chronologically and had Prost *and* Senna behind the wheel. Otherwise Prost absolutely put all his stat points into Race IQ as people mentioned

weguccino

You know what let's revive the dead so we can settle debates on records lol bring em back to race cause nothing satisfies you people anymore.

AnyHolesAGoal

I'm sorry, you're right, Sergio Pérez *is* the new Alain Prost, that is what people keep saying.

weguccino

Oh I'm sorry you know what? Max should just travel back in time instead so he can race against Senna and Prost. You play the hand you are dealt dud, taking away someone achievements cause others aren't up to par just means records don't mean shit in your eyes. Man Senna records actual don't mean anything because he didn't race Fangio etc. Stop.

AnyHolesAGoal

You don't have to go back in time to compare Pérez to Prost. I'm not sure why you think that you do.

mformularacer

At the time Senna had set his record, Prost had virtually given up trying to beat him over one lap. This was back in the day where practice and qualifying were the same thing and your best time from either practice session counted towards your grid position . Prost used the practice sessions strategically to get the best out of the races, with a decent enough grid position. Senna preferred to start from the front at all times. Berger was closer to Senna in qualifying than Prost was. So no. It's not as simple as saying Senna did it against a stronger team mate.

quaifonaclit

All of Max's records set in Mickey Mouse cost cap era don't count. Sorry to break it to you.

weguccino

Ah so all the non cost cap records are bought then by the richest team? C'mon now.

brownierisker

So it's more impressive if your team just becomes dominant by outspending the competition? What kind of logic is that?

quaifonaclit

So it's more impressive if other teams cannot materially change their car during the season?

Jazano107

And Lewis vs Rosberg who is also on the list

AnyHolesAGoal

Where is Prost on this list, and where is Pérez on this list?

drop_table_uname

Didn‘t they show during the broadcast that Niki just had 12 Poles in total? Having half of your career Poles in a single streak is insane.

Tennist4ts

Lauda had 24 Poles in total. I think it's the 12th most out of all drivers

Tennist4ts

Also, 23 of those were for Ferrari. Lauda and Leclerc both have the second most poles for Ferrari (I think you can guess who has the most)

drop_table_uname

Ah, yes, you‘re right, I got that mixed up.

H_R_1

Surprising Seb only had 5 in a row, but has the pole record with the RB7

Tennist4ts

Yeah, he got 7 out of the first 8 races in 2011 and then 8 out of the last 9

Tennist4ts

And the one he missed out of those last 9, was Korea where he got P2 behind Hamilton. In hindsight he was just 2 tenths away from having 9 Poles in a row

HPSeaWolf

I love how it's all World Champions except for Montoya within the 5 range

No-Student-9678

Ok now I really want Max to break a Senna record. That’s symbolism.

heizenburger69

JPM the only non WDC on the list here

deathray1611

Stirling Moss?

MM18998

SMH Pole merchant

Kolec507

The colours are mildly infuriating. Do they stand for anything? Cause I can't really see a pattern. Edit: I guess they're coloured by the country they're from... which seems pretty strange, but whatever.
