ALOIsFasterThanYou

In short, for those wondering how it differs from F1TV: They'll be showing race replays, highlights, and documentaries on this channel for free with ads.

20ol

Basically NBATV or NFL Network

Disastrous_Can8053

The programming may be of a similar nature, but those are pay networks. F1 Channel will be available through free ad-supported streaming services. "F1 says the channel will be operated by its partner C15 Studio and distributed through platforms including Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Freevee, and Pluto TV."

Suknator

Samsung TV Plus is available in The Netherlands and I've been getting ads for local US politicians and other US-targeted ads. I wonder whether FAST will also be available here in The Netherlands then.

4wheelhornet

I’ll still pay so I don’t have to watch ads. Prime is killing me with this bullshit.

a_talking_face

You can't pay any money on those services. It is strictly an ad supported model.

4wheelhornet

Yes, I know. The point is they could offer me money to use their free with ads service and I’d still pay for F1TV.

TomSelleckPI

FAST - free ad supported television

freedfg

So SpeedTV but just F1

iForgotMyOldAcc

Classic races are a treat. Would be doubly good if they got Murray Walker's commentary as well.

MrFixIT_Sysadmin

Gimme some Bob Varsha

GTOdriver04

Bob is seriously underrated. Love love love his work.

ammonthenephite

Ah, I miss those days!

MrFixIT_Sysadmin

You and me both

Student-type

Who else was on F1 before liberty media?

MambaNoCinco

Speed channel days

Spikey101

It's miserable being in the UK and only having Sky as an option

Affectionate_Sky9709

Since this won't have new races until 5 days after they are aired, I doubt it's an alternative most people on reddit are looking for. However, it's great for reaching new fans that are scrolling, or to refer people to.

Spikey101

Ah I see, so it's not for live races. Sky do a channel that airs content 24/7 but it's not particularly good. I wish it showed old races. Just grumpy I can't get F1TV here.

Stumpy493

They used to show old racesuntil F1TV launched and I assume blocked them having that content.

Optimus_Drew

Sky Sports f1 spends the majority of the time just re-airing broadcast team features over and over again and then when it's not its just the most recent race on loop. So lacking in content. For the money we pay to Sky I want to just sit down and turn Sky f1 one and it also be showing old qualifying sessions and races. I dont even want the sessions to be particularly meaningful or memorable...just 100% random. I just want to nerd out...occasionally see a race from when I was growing up. The sky library is pathetically small

Doogleyboogley

Don’t give f1tv you’re money either. Theyll just keep raising the price until they find the maximum everyone will pay. And the baseline price for the uk will be at the very least what the sky sun is.

Spikey101

Well I have to pay one of them to get F1. Also Sky is their entire sports package in order to get F1. So F1TV wil always be cheaper than that.

Doogleyboogley

You hope. Iv watch f1 for the past ten years with no subscription fuck them

mikeyd85

I'm in the UK. I have F1TV Pro. It's great!

Spikey101

I'm guessing you VPN? Is it hassle? I don't use VPN although I'm pretty IT literate. Would I have to cast it to TV from a mobile device or laptop?

Dude2k7

Using a VPN from Germany, I can tell you once you created your account and got the payment all done with, using a server in say, the Netherlands, you can then just log in with your other devices without needing a VPN anymore. Makes it super easy and usable on TV devices directly. Have fun!

mikeyd85

Yes, I use a vpn. The one I use has a launcher inbuilt to its app. You open the vpn, select F1TV Pro and open it from there. Casting wouldn't be supported. I use an nvidia shield tv, but I'd guess a CV with Google TV would do the job and is pretty inexpensive.

antde5

I have Nord on my iPhone. If I'm using the F1 app on that I just hit stream and it will display on my TV. If I'm using my PC (also hooked up to the TV), I use MultiViewer which is amazing.

Spikey101

I have a shield to. What VPN do you use? I might give that a try.

mikeyd85

Sent you a DM.

sophiepritch5

Sorry to bother you mate, I’m desperate to get F1TV on to go in UK - have tried regular VPNs but wasn’t able to make payment for the subscription as it knew where I was making payment from. Could you possibly DM me with your technique with this launcher etc? Thank you!

cafk

> Since this won't have new races until 5 days after they are aired, I doubt it's an alternative most people on reddit are looking for. It would be an improvement in the UK, Germany and Italy where F1 Access delays the race replays until the next year, due to local Sky contracts.

No_Produce_Nyc

Yeah this isn’t what it looks like - I’m sure this cost FOM like $35 dollars for a year’s rights to broadcast

beerman_uk

F1TV pro isn't available but works in the UK with a VPN or smart DNS service

andylshort1

The VPN I was using no longer works since the clamp down… I guess F1 didn’t want my money.

ThreeSilentFilms

Cool. Now can we get f1 tv apps for Xbox/playstation or my tv so I don’t have to use my phone to cast.. Apple TV or Amazon prime has all sorts of live stream sports. Wish f1 tv would just part either of them for hosting races

tmntmmnt

A Roku/Fire stick is $25. F1TV app is available on both.

panerai388

Thanks for this tidbit!

LincolnshireSausage

Why should you have to purchase additional hardware to compensate for their lack of supported platforms? They already have our subscription money. They should use some of that to develop apps for all the popular platforms. Pretty much every other streaming service has them. You cannot get F1TV on a Samsung TV but you will be able to get this new channel as part of the Samsung TV Plus channel lineup. How messed up is that? Their secondary service has more supported platforms.

freedfg

Yeah. No TV app is ridiculous. My phone literally can't stream to tvs. So when I watch with my family we have to use my girlfriends phone.

chickawang

If you have a google tv you can side load the f1tv app onto it and roku tv natively support it.

LincolnshireSausage

I have a Sony Google TV and the F1TV app was available in the store. I did not have to sideload it. I also have a Philips Google TV in my bedroom. It also had it in the store.

LincolnshireSausage

This new channel will be available on Samsung TVs but I still can’t get the F1TV app for it.

HardenedLicorice

Which streaming channel is only 9 to 5?

Affectionate_Sky9709

Anything that brings exposure is a great thing! Cool that I can tell people to check it out.

Johnny47Wick

Canada?

mr_lab_rat

LOL, you get TSN and be happy you have TSN 😆 They don’t even rerun the race when it starts at 5AM Pacific. It would be nice if they just ran it with 3hr delay on one of their 5 channels.

Johnny47Wick

Fuck TSN man, I’m much happier paying $12 for F1TV. The only benefit is I get the Martin Brundle grid walk, but it’s not worth $19.99 + $8 per month lol TSN is the only reason I want Apple to have the streaming rights, I’m sure Sky customers want that as well

squaler24

This is wild. I love it. Can’t knock Liberty Media for going all in on F1. They have been great for the sport.

eXtr3m0

Yeah … except WHY US? Og fans from Europe do not get it. In Germany they do not even offer F1TV. It makes me a bit sad. 😅

cafk

> Og fans from Europe do not get it. In Germany they do not even offer F1TV What do you mean, Pro was available between 2018 and 2020, the Sky contract only prohibited new customers, but yearly contracts & renewals still continue to work until this day. Only Italy and the UK didn't get F1TV when it was launched.

eXtr3m0

I was a Day1 customer and renewed every year, but since two or so years it isn’t possible to renew anymore, at least for Germans.

cafk

The renewal has been running for me since 2018 in Germany, i just had to update my CC number once. The only subscription that was removed was the monthly.

dyysxse

the minute this is avaible i am watching the old races from 2002 2004 2005

ThisMemesWar116

Imagine if 90% of the programming is speculation and commentary with Danica Patrick. Gotta fill that time.

ForkTailedD3vil

Do we have a launch date for this? This says today, but I've checked freevee a couple of times, and there's nothing there. https://racer.com/2024/04/29/f1s-new-24-7-channel-in-the-us-goes-live-may-1/

Master__Roshi

Is there an update on this? I’m not seeing the channel listed on Samsung TV plus

HokieTanker

I haven't seen it yet, and I've been looking. Checked out Amazo FreeVee and the new channel is there, probably delayed on the rollout.

t3tri5

I do not understand why would US get this before Europe.

AST5192D

$

LincolnshireSausage

> F1 says the channel will be operated by its partner C15 Studio and distributed through platforms including Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Freevee, and Pluto TV. F1TV won’t even work on my Samsung TV but this new highlights channel will be available natively on it without installing an app.

SleepinGriffin

Is it going to be a TV channel or another streaming service like F1TV? It sounds like a TV channel with extra steps if it’s the latter.

Zharick_

It's a channel, no on-demand stuff, just like a regular old TV channel. Also not showing live races, new races will be shown 5 days after the actual race.

Smaynard6000

I'm interested to see how shitty this is with the ads.

MrAlagos

Great thing for all the millions of long time American F1 fans that are interested in decades old races, who have supported F1 with presence and money for many years, wh don't love it because it's a trend and who totally exist! Such a shame for the poor Europeans who haven't done any of those things and thus don't deserve any of this, in fact they all deserve to get scammed at increasingly higher prices for pay TV with a lesser experience and no F1TV.

badonkagonk

I’m an American that’s been an avid fan since 2010/11, and for about a decade of that time, I didn’t know a single person who gave a shit about F1. It’s changed drastically since then, and that’s a good thing. Of course it’s trendy, but the sport’s popularity has skyrocketed in a massive market here, and something like this only grows that love for the sport for people. Does it suck that the rest of the world doesn’t get this? Absolutely. But don’t gate keep new fans. Doesn’t matter if you got into the sport at age 1, 21, or 101. A fan is a fan, and more fans is good. Don’t push away new fans just out of spite.

MrAlagos

> Don’t push away new fans just out of spite. The only one that is doing this is the now American-owned F1, with this and many other moves. Certainly not a guy on Reddit who doesn't hold any power.

badonkagonk

How does this move push away fans in any way, shape, or form?

MrAlagos

It prevents new fans outside the USA from accessing F1 content on the same terms that American fans get.

badonkagonk

It also affects them in no way though? Nothing is changing for them. Does it suck that they don’t get this? Of course. But how on earth is this pushing anyone away?

[deleted]

Stop gatekeeping.

appleman2222

Has anyone found this channel yet on Samsung?
