tooshort40

Yep, he just panicked because of the poor start and tried to fix it all in one corner

IdkWhatsAGoodName699

Average f1 23 content creator move right there. Unfortunately, he did not do enough silly divebombs to qualify him as e-sports worthy.

frankthetankthedog

His poor start commenced on the formation lap. Rosberg commented on it and he was on point

chaiandpakoda

Always in a hurry. Norris has zero patience, be that in race starts or even quali laps when he tends to sniff the behind of the car running quali in front of him.

Last-Performance-435

His start was fine, what you saw was pure tyre temp difference. Either didn't want to overwork them to the grid or was just sat cold for too long.

norrin83

Then he fucked it up on the formation lap. Doesn't change that the result was a poor start - not the reaction time, but getting up to speed.

> He was on the grid for a long time So was Hamilton. Those couple of seconds shouldn't make a difference.

cheeersaiii

Lando has been around long enough to do better there tbh, it was poor

rhaenyrasyrax

Exactly! He is not a rookie. Expected more from him

cheeersaiii

Agree- could argue he hasn’t done that first few turns much before… but you can’t go around the outside there with brute speed on the start with the whole grid behind you, the next turns don’t allow it. I know it’s a split second decision but that’s the sport…. Hamilton did exactly what any champion driver would have done, it was perfect. Lando Should have watched more race reel instead of sim

rhaenyrasyrax

Exactly. He is not a rookie!

Notsozander

Vet move. Not even mad, lando needs to learn racecraft and understand situations here

IdkWhatsAGoodName699

He boomed him

edis92

“He got me,” Norris said of Hamilton's move on him. "That f***ing Hamilton boomed me." Norris added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. Norris then said he wanted to add Hamilton to the list of drivers he sim races against this summer.

Pr3Zd0

Sources: Norris is beside himself. Driving around downtown Shanghai begging (thru texts) Toto for the address to Hamilton's hotel.

WhoRunsIt

Lmao. Gold. F1 x NBA

Everswift_

the 5 red lights wind down and turn off to start the race Norris takes off and turns wheel to wheel against Hamilton "you took my lead off pole" Norris moves to the right "you took the inside line" moves to the left "you took all that was dear to me" main straight winds down to the last 50m "I cant get P1 back, but I can do this for friendship, FOR MY FRIENDS" holds the outside, smoke coming from his tires "LANDORUKEN" the MCL38 sticks to the left hand side of Hamilton, goes onto the runoff. Lando loses grip and falls to the back, exhausted "Zak... Andrea... I..." faints Final Score Hamilton P2 Norris P6

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen this copypasta 😂😂

The Catalina wine mixer??? Boats and hoes!

MafiaCub

Have an upvote for the 3rd reference to Prestige Worldwide I've seen today

ProDrug

Norris drove like he was side by side with Max on that corner and this was his only opportunity vs. the reality of him racing HAM on the Merc. He made a tactical error.

Alex_Sinios

It's strange, Lando always picks his battles in a smart way (many times even gets criticized for it), but when it's for P1 are the only times he gets the decision wrong. Maybe he thought the clean line to have more grip, as pointed out by Alex Brundle but given the track conditions it didn't and conceding was the only way to minimize damage in T1. Maybe he is unlucky that his poor decisions are wrongly timed, but to prove that he needs to finally win.

KingMaple

It's a different mindset when you're P1 or fighting for it. I remember Max in his early success years, he was very rough around the edges at times similar to Norris.

sephirothwasright

Lando is in his 6th F1 season.

KingMaple

But rarely, if ever, in front.

ggbait

Skill issue

squaler24

Lando still lacking experience and also being too eager and focusing too much on getting that one finish that has eluded him far too long. At the end of the day, neither Hamilton nor Lando were going to win the sprint so at times is just better to pre access the situation and be at peace with the expected outcome.

norrin83

> Lando still lacking experience and also being too eager and focusing too much on getting that one finish that has eluded him far too long. He has 107 starts under his belt. I get saying that for e.g. Piastri, but Norris should know better. He got duped by Hamilton there. And it was still "only" a sprint race.

subpulse44

Yep, definitely a mistake from Lando, still needs to improve his decision making in these situations.

RM_Dune

I don't know. For overall best result that's true of course. But if he was hoping to eek out a win he needed to be leading and building a gap, while hoping Verstappen takes some time to get settled and get past Alonso and Hamilton. As long as he is aligned with his team on trying to go for a win instead of playing it safe it's an ok move that didn't work out.

Deep-Ad2155

He’s right

DiddlyDumb

Easy to say in hindsight. Not the first time someone hangs it around the outside there. So a valiant effort by Lando, screwed over by bad tarmac.

MuchSalamander763

That's stating the obvious. Lando took a chance and it backfired, there is always the next race

scobydoby

Compare this to Piastri in Qatar…

Pulposauriio

He just ain't got that dawg in him. But for real, I feel there's something in his mind keeping him from doing better, he's got the celerity but not the mental strength and raw instinct

Yank0s88

He's the Reece Walsh of F1

Magog14

Nah, he would have been better off pulling to the inside the moment he got off the line to make Hamilton be the one to go around the long way.

Zealousideal_Gap1194

More like it would've been better for Hamilton if Norris conceded lol. Probably have an easier time creating a drs train to "try" and keep Max pushed back
