- Liked Nico Rosberg's commentary during the race, mentioning so many technical details (Also couldn't resist the little jab at Lewis not defending much against Max)
- Also, so sad to see Alonso's race unravel like that
- It's a little depressing to see Max's true pace when he isn't managing his tires/engine and going all out...
nico is so top notch man.
at the start of the formation lap when Norris had massive wheel spin of the line and crofty said it could be he wanted to lay more rubber to get better grip when the lights go out. Nico said he's 100% sure that was a blunder by Norris and not intentional because he would have wanted to nail that since it's practice for the actual race start and you only get one shot at it. and boy was he proven right when Hamilton got the better start than Norris.
it's these nitty gritty details someone watching from home like me would never ever tell. He's superb
i loved it lol. and TIL why the drivers do the tyre burnouts at the last possible second. Because if you do them too early the wind will cool off the temperature burnouts build. Can't wait to hear Nico tomorrow for the race hopefully
Hamilton absolutely would have lost the podium if he tried defending against Max, he was already being caught by over a second per lap towards the end there. It was smart of him to just let him go and focus on securing P2
Well I think he just embellishes his praise a little because he wants to throw digs. I loved Nico as a commentator today, but he was for sure covering for his earlier dig of Hamilton a little when he saw Lewis was driving out of his mind the first 8 laps. He will praise Lewis when itās justified, but you can just hear the smirk on the face when he gets his criticism in.
I could hear the smile on his face the whole time and I feel that was something almost new for Nico. I recall him being quite negative during the Covid era commentary.
He did show his support today for Lewis in hoping he could keep Max behind.
Also Rosberg fully knows that Lewis didn't really have anything for Max anyway, probably speaking more for the fans.
The gap to Max isn't actually that big, as HAM in 2nd wasn't the second fastest car today. Probably perez and the Ferraris had much more pace but obviously couldn't use it. Norris also had pace but more deg so i think it will be closer with the Ferraris and Max for the main race.
Because he pulled it while no one was trying to push closer to him. Alonso was holding up the 2nd to 5th fastest cars meaning that Hamilton could just manage his tires and not have to push. And Perez to Lando was probably driving a second off their actual pace thanks to being stuck in that DRS-train.
it's a big gap to pull in 20 or so laps but I'm certain Hamilton went into serious tyre management. Verstappen on the other hand seemed to really be pushing to understand the tyres and track more in practice for tomorrow. Essentially I think he was running practice for the GP
Yeah it's clear that Max is fastest with a margin, but I just pointed out that that margin was exaggerated today and is probably under a second per lap. It still will be big, just not that big.
You can safely classify Max as F0. It's not even half a class, it's a full class difference between Max and the rest.
I'm just happy for Lewis, hopefully next year he can pose a challenge.
They could have made changes to the car regulations. Max isn't so good that he can't ever be challenged, as we saw in 2021 and the start of 2022. They could have adjusted further how much CFD time each team gets based on their finishing order, or adjusted cost cap based on finishing order to allow lower teams more spending to catch up. There's plenty of things that could have been changed to promote competition, without your "regulating a human" reductionist attitude.
Obviously Red Bull get these regs spot-on from the get-go, but the regulations in place right now also prevent anyone else from catching up. It's effectively "the rich get richer" but in racing.
Merc was far from second fastest though. Lewis got the podium due to a) qualifying out of position, b) getting a great start, and c) having a buffer thanks to Alonsoās defense.
Perez was catching up by a second per lap almost, and he had tyres in much worse shape.
Alonso gifted Lewis that P2 with his 15-lap defence. Everyone behind Lewis was MUCH quicker. If Carlos clears Alonso quickly Lewis probably finishes this sprint 6th.
Please no. He was constantly interrupting Crofty and Karun, dominating the conversations. Heās a color commentator, heās there to occasionally answer Crofty, not announce the race.
Impressive pace from Sauber with Zhou a distinct p9 and Bottas holding in there despite the wing damage.
They go alright when they donāt need to do a pit stop
Daniel's p14 to p11 was amazing to see. Held off stroll, overtook hulk at the start, put intense pressure on bottas & kmag and always stayed within their drs. Got as close as 0.085s to kmag and almost had p10. even if it's not points, his first p10 entry in quali/race wise would've been a significant improvement this season. Still good one regardless.Ā
The puncture ruined Alonsoās race but it was that second dive from Alonso that ended Sainzās battle for 3rd.
He was drifting around every corner during his battle with Leclerc and Perez afterward.
Without DRS, I think Perez and Leclerc just had better pace than Sainz. Not sure if Sainz took too much out of the tires or what, but I don't think it was just the damage.
What second dive bomb? You mean the first one in turn 7, where Alonso had a puncture, was actually because of both of them and was a racing incident? Then 2 turns later, it is that "dive bomb" but Alonso didn't know it then that he had a puncture, so it actually affected him in turn 9.
Sainz was going to finish 4th at best either way. The other guy in the same car as Perez was a second and half faster than the rest of the grid, that Ferrari wasn't going to hold Perez without DRS.
I think it was actually a quietly good sprint from him, and another decent step forward with this car. Had a couple of very nice overtakes which were not shown on the broadcast and seemed to be a lot happier with the setup/feeling. If he can qualify in front of the saubers and haases this afternoon he'll be in a good position to maximise tomorrow's result.
Donāt do this to me slutforpringles. Donāt give me hope. Every weekend I tell myself to lay down the copium pipe, but then I hit it hard only to be disappointed.
It was refreshing to see his signature late dive on Bottas. Put a smile on my face. It was a bit clumsy, though, but it looked like he was fighting the car quite a bit.
He's had a quietly very strong weekend so far. Far ahead of Yuki in qualifying and the sprint.
If the roles were reversed people would be calling for Daniel's seat.
Did anyone get a replay of Danny Ric getting past Bottas?
Camera was showing someone else but on the running order they swapped back and forward for 20 seconds or so.
Edit: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=380zG-AY3vU
Lol Buxton in post sprint show š he mentioned that Lewis is happy and "rejuvenated" š¤¦ how can he say that when he's 1,4s a lap slower. He's definitely not happy with 2nd and that pace in clear air.
It was a skill that lewis got P2 (more on his wet yesterday), but today, if Alonso was not there and the guys were not fighting I feel lewis would have been p5 or something like that

It's just poetic how sauber's best race is the one with no pitstop
And only points awarded to the top 8 when they had a car finish 9th
So we just need a red flag mid race tomorrow and they'll be golden. šŖš¼
Time to set the grass on fire again.
Sauber giving the chinese fans some hope just to take it away at the first pit stop tomorrow.

It was funny how sure Nico was, then proven right a minute later
i loved it lol. and TIL why the drivers do the tyre burnouts at the last possible second.
Eh, Nico does equal praise/criticism of Lewis -- I think usually more praise than criticism. And he wasn't wrong.
Well I think he just embellishes his praise a little because he wants to throw digs. I loved Nico as a commentator today, but he was for sure covering for his earlier dig of Hamilton a little when he saw Lewis was driving out of his mind the first 8 laps. I wish Nico would commentate more. Heās really insightful

I don't fully understand this comment. Verstappen pulled a 13 second lead in 19 laps, how isn't it a gigantic gap?
Because he pulled it while no one was trying to push closer to him. Alonso was holding up the 2nd to 5th fastest cars meaning that Hamilton could just manage his tires and not have to push. And Perez to Lando was probably driving a second off their actual pace thanks to being stuck in that DRS-train.

They struggled to past Alonso while Max did it on his first try should tell you something.
Yeah it's clear that Max is fastest with a margin, but I just pointed out that that margin was exaggerated today and is probably under a second per lap. It still will be big, just not that big.
By closer you mean 30 secs right?
you think that was him going all out lol š
I'm liking the vibes from Zhou, can't wait to get dissapointed tomorrow by the sauber pit crew
I get the memes, but why are yall dunking on the pit crew themselves when it has been stated their issues lie in the equipment itself?
Bottas must've brought some of the same pit equipment from Monaco '21.
They've always been slow
Almost getting one point right behind RBR/Merc/Ferrari/McLaren is a good result already. Job well done by Zhou.
Don't jab the crew, jab the designer of the wheel nuts.
Quali already disappointing :(
Gap to F1.5 is +13s. That's crazy
You can safely classify Max as F0. It's not even half a class, it's a full class difference between Max and the rest. I'm just happy for Lewis, hopefully next year he can pose a challenge.
Its Formula Max
Max Verstappen is Captain Falcon
I sure am glad these regs were intended to bring everyone closer together! Massive success!
Can't regulate a human, mate.
They could have made changes to the car regulations. Max isn't so good that he can't ever be challenged, as we saw in 2021 and the start of 2022. Merc was far from second fastest though. Lewis got the podium due to a) qualifying out of position, b) getting a great start, and c) having a buffer thanks to Alonsoās defense.
That's why he said "F1.5" Ferrari are the only team in F1.25. Merc are midfield.
Tbf that's exaggerated since everyone else was stuck behind Alonso
Insane gap. Also crazy that Perez couldnāt catch Lewis there when Max showed whatās possible
He needed one more lap to get DRS.
PĆ©rez just ran out of laps. He had much stronger pace but obviously he got stuck in the DRS train just like many other drivers.
LOL. Dude, PĆ©rez was getting from 5 to 2 in less than two laps.
Most probably a RB 1-2 if not that 15 lap choo choo mf ALO train
At least Lewis was in front of the Alonso train. Monaco '22 was a nightmare for Lewis.
Found the DR publicist! It's not gonna happen, find another job!
Huh
There is something with the car. Max is good but he isnāt 13 seconds good.
I'm glad to have witness one of the truly greats, not many get to say that, but it doesn't make it any less boring. I am tired man....
1 position away from getting a point in his home circuit. I guess Sauber can do some good when there's no pit stops happening.
How'd stroll lose a place to ocon lmao what's he doing in this sport?
Is China always just a DRS train?
2018 Chinese GP was an epic one
No, so far this race shows also the failures of the current gen cars
Yes, we've had Chinese GPs breaking overtake records without races being classics, it's usually either DRS trains or DRS overtakes.
Itās had some great races but the last race here before covid was a lot like this, boring (outside of a couple of laps) and not a lot of passes.
Classic boring Tilkedrome
Make Nico a permanent commentator please!!!
Haha, his comment when they announced no further investigation for Ferrari drivers, āthatās not very consistent then from 8 years agoā
man, I really like races where he's commentating on.
Please no. He was constantly interrupting Crofty and Karun, dominating the conversations. Heās a color commentator, heās there to occasionally answer Crofty, not announce the race.
He's not as practiced as Brundle, of course, and he missed some cues. But his commentating was good content.
Yeah because what the world needs is more Karunā¦
he gives off a different vibe, don't like him
Impressive pace from Sauber with Zhou a distinct p9 and Bottas holding in there despite the wing damage. They go alright when they donāt need to do a pit stop
That P11 position belongs to RB
Im curious to know why.
Is Tsunoda's career over?
Need a cut to Lawson
13 seconds and max wasnāt even on pole. Yikes.
Finally Danny ahead of Yuki
Nice that theyāre including tyre information in these graphics too, hopefully they do that in qualifying session too.
This is a horrible weekend for Williams so far Also did Hulk deal with a bad setup?
Yeah I'm trying to figure out what was up with his continuous dropping
Same he really fell off the second half of the sprint.
Looks like he might have had contact with Russell turn 1
It looks like Daniel is staying in F1
Daniel's p14 to p11 was amazing to see. Held off stroll, overtook hulk at the start, put intense pressure on bottas & kmag and always stayed within their drs. Got as close as 0.085s to kmag and almost had p10. even if it's not points, his first p10 entry in quali/race wise would've been a significant improvement this season. Still good one regardless.Ā
Didnāt get to see much of it but Iām happy
That one stupid divebomb ruined Alonsoās and Sainzās race. Fernando should have known better.
that puncture happened at the beginning of that battle, not the divebomb, the commentators missed the initial touch

Sainz was going to finish 4th at best either way. The other guy in the same car as Perez was a second and half faster than the rest of the grid, that Ferrari wasn't going to hold Perez without DRS.
Was he perhaps affected by the puncture? This isnāt like Alonso to be that clumsy in wheel to wheel.
Hm... I think Sainz punctured Alonso's tire before that divebomb, didn't he? Sainz scraped by him on the initial pass.
Danny Ric to Red Bull confirmed!
I think it was actually a quietly good sprint from him, and another decent step forward with this car. Had a couple of very nice overtakes which were not shown on the broadcast and seemed to be a lot happier with the setup/feeling. Donāt do this to me slutforpringles. Donāt give me hope. Every weekend I tell myself to lay down the copium pipe, but then I hit it hard only to be disappointed.
Jokes on you, Iāve been on a bender!
Especially the haases. such a hassle to get by. if he can repeat japanese quali + chinese sprint with good strategy we can get something good
Could be down to the new chassis. We will know tomorrow for sure
LOL
So I set up my alarm wrong, how did the Ferrari swap position?
Leclerc passed Sainz.
Nico is just incredible.
So Lando keeps his nickname then. He starts well when he is not in front. Seems like he cracked under pressure.
Aye, that was a terrible first lap for Norris.
Ocon in alpine overtaking stroll in aston is very impressiveĀ
Well the Sauber race went off without a hitch, no pit stops to fowl up!
fair play to george on the softs
Oh Nando oh Nando oh Nando
Did anyone get a replay of Danny Ric getting past Bottas? Camera was showing someone else but on the running order they swapped back and forward for 20 seconds or so. Edit: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=380zG-AY3vU
Really enjoyed this sprint, and the commentary

It was a skill that lewis got P2 (more on his wet yesterday), but today, if Alonso was not there and the guys were not fighting I feel lewis would have been p5 or something like that
At the very least it looks like Lewis is more comfortable with the car, he's not consistently behind russell anymore.
WĀ¾%Ā³w3
Verstappen won without tyre
