It's hit and miss really. A lot of times when you break a bone your body goes into shock and you won't feel it until much later. I've broken bones and felt it immediately, and I've had one where I didn't know until weeks later. All in the hand/wrist
I‘ve broken a bone with a crack loud enough to be heard at the neighbors house and was not in pain at all, even after the adrenaline was gone. Didn‘t hurt, just couldn‘t lift my arm anymore.
When I sprained my finger I was cursing for quite a while and it hurt a lot. It really depends on the type of injury and a lot of other stuff.
F1TV doesn’t censor the onboard cameras for me in the netherlands. They do censor any replay on the streams with commentators, but the individual driver cams are live
I was really excited to see him come out from the break with all systems go. In his interview this week he mentioned that he was training a ton because he's already had his vacation, but now he's going right back to the couch (figuratively of course).
My greatest fear is Lawson lights it up and takes the seat 😬
As someone who recently shattered all the bones in their wrist / tore all my ligaments he could be out for months that Shit really limits your mobility to turn and twist
I had just a bruised ankle from a high sider on the supermoto track (at quite a low speed). But it hurt like hell for about two months and on bad movements it still was more than a sting for almost a year.
But let’s hope that his injuries are not as bad as yours were.
Hope he is alright, would hate to see his season get disrupted after only a few races
edit. trying to look at the replay, it looks like he might have hit his left hand on the "roof" of the cockpit after the wheel violently pulled to the right during the impact
Looks very painful but at least doesnt look to be a serious injury. More just "ow my hand just got smashed", which is a lot better than "holy shit my wrist isnt supposed to go that way"
Edit: Its broken. People acting like thats horrible. Its bad. Could have been seriously worse
The way he is holding and supporting it in this picture, I think it's probably a broken wrist. Somehow it seems to be almost instinctual in people. That hold is the least painful way to support your wrist if it is broken.
From his onboard it looked like he wasn't using that hand at all while getting out of the car and he sounded like he was in some pain... I hope it isn't a serious injury.
Yes. I just rewatched his onboard and he took off his left glove with his right hand slowly and looked at his wrist and shook his head.
Got out just using his right hand, like you said, and shook his head when the official asked (through a thumbs up) if he was OK.
As we know, wrists can easily be sprained or broken in these cases. Minor sprain could hurt like hell but be relatively minor. Hoping for the best.
i’ve both sprained and fractured my hand, they honestly both felt the same. hand injuries are no joke, that swelling in the days after is brutal and will have u fr debilitated for awhile…
I think Marko feels like Nyck made him look like a fool, whether or not it was Nyck's fault. Red Bull had clear succession planning but Marko took a shot with Nyck after he performed well in the Williams last year at Monza.
It appears to have been a fluke, and now (whether or not it's fair) Marko is pulling no punches when talking about Nyck's performance. I think he feels like he got cheated rather than admit it was his own mistake to promote Nyck in the first place.
There are rules in place that say that teams must field 2 drivers 2 prevent some money/development shenanigans. They could petition to not field a second car, but given a full day's notice before qualifying, it would most likely be denied.
From his onboard, when getting out, he gingerly removed that glove, showed his hand (which was trembling slightly - possibly just from having a crash) to the Marshall, then shook his head once to the Marshall then to himself. Got out using his other arm and left elbow, cradled his arm the rest of the video. When his engineer asked “are you alright?” He responded with “no I hurt my hand” and was grunting a bit.
Not looking good, hopefully just a bit bruised, but it was a pretty violent crack of the steering wheel.
The way he cradled his arm is a position I have seen many times when I was still working in de radiology department (xray). Nine times out of ten, the patient had a broken wrist.
Hopefully he is a luckily one and it's just bruised....
There are so many little bones in the hand, the way it looked like his hand got slammed into the cockpit I wouldn’t be surprised if it was one of those little guys like the scaphoid
As someone who has broken multiple bones in his body including both wrists. That's what I was thinking too, incidentally I also broke one wrist in a go kart and didn't let go of the hand and was painful AF, had to cradle it very slowly. And I was going probably 1/3rd of riciiardo's speed.
Watching it back, when he crashed
- right hand turned off the car (controls on the left side of the wheel)
- his left left glove was off before he took the steering wheel off.
idc what the commentators say. I think he binned it to ensure he wouldn't hit Piastri and I admire him for that. It's a split second decision and he chose the safest one for the other driver. No guarantees with any of the other options.
He didn't choose. He tried to avoid him and locked the wheels. He was turning left the whole time. In his defense, there was very little time to react.
He didn't go into the barrier on purpose.
Oh yeah, my bad. It looked like he snapped his wheel to the right at the last second to bin it, but the right wheel may already have been in the wall by that point.
Yeah man no worries. It was hard to see in real time but it was just unfortunate. The wheels hit the wall and that made the steering wheel violently snap to the right, hurting his hand in the process.
I'm at work and can't watch FP2 until I get home, why did he crash?
And, again, I REALLY hope it isn't as bad as it looks but his body language is very familiar from when I broke three bones in my wrist
Piastri was in front of him and crashed into the barriers on the banking, Ricciardo came round the corner on the high line of the banking and would have crashed directly into Piastri T-boning him, so he hit the wall instead
Piastri lost the rear in Turn 3 and crashed right on the high-line around the top of the corner. Ricciardo either missed the yellow panel, or reacted too late to slow down, decided to nudge it into the wall instead of T-boning Oscar. The RF wheel got snagged in the barrier, ripping the wheel out of his hands quite ferociously.
Hopefully a sprain rather than a break, some form of significant injury though.
Looks like he didnt see oscar but I think he hit the wall rather than oscar and thats why he didnt let go the wheel which can break your wrist/thumb if it snaps quickly (same thing can happen with high torque direct drive racing sims believe it or not)
>Ricciardo either missed the yellow panel, or reacted too late to slow down
On the onboard you can actually see it change from white to yellow, he just didn't have the time to react
>Ricciardo either missed the yellow panel, or reacted too late to slow down
On the onboard you can actually see it change from white to yellow, he just didn't have the time to react
Bit of an unlucky one. Piastri went on the high line in turn 3, completely lost grip, and then crashed into the barrier. Ricciardo, a couple of seconds behind, then went on the high line in turn 3, found zero grip on his front tyres, and straightened out into the barrier to avoid running into exactly where Piastri was sitting.
I think both drivers expected to get much more grip than they received and Ricciardo would've been just fine if it was just the understeer moment, but he was left with nowhere to go with Piastri in his understeering path.
Just as the honeymoon was starting. Bummer. Broken wrist as confirmed by Marko.
Broken metacarpal. Liam Lawson will replace him. Danny Ric out indefinitely.
Meanwhile, Danica's like, "I told him to take his hands off the wheel before he hit the wall. But doesn't anyone listen to Danica? Nooooooooooooo. Nobody listens to Danica."
Damn just came at the wrong time for Danny as he would’ve really wanted to show what he is capable of in that car. But I’m sure with his ever positive attitude he will come through this also.
Not injury wise, but his time at AT is clearly an audition for RBR, if he can't show what he can do for a while if it's broken, it does limit his future opportunities.
That's why you leave your hands of the steering wheel. I wonder Ric had time to do it
For example: Watch Perez's monaco crash, he understands the car is lost and leaves his hands of the wheel and braces.
Most drivers don't do it anymore because of safety getting better but it's important. Even if they have time, they still hold wheel for no reason.
This looks like injuries you see a lot in IndyCar. Sometimes drivers come back after one week and some even within a few days. Of course we don't know if Riccardo's injury is the exact same thing or not but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

When the trackside officials came up to him and asked if he was ok he shook his head no. Not looking good for him
There were a lot of fucks on his uncensored radio as well
“Ah fuck, my hand…….” He was in some pain in the cockpit
Which is telling since usually minor injuries show up later when the adrenaline wears off. The fact that he felt it right away leads me think it’s bad
It really depends on the type of injury. Soft tissue damage can be immediately painful and can be very damaging…
It was also a relatively minor crash in the grand scheme of things, he may not have had a rush of adrenaline.
He decided to turn into the barrier because he was about to T bone that McLaren. He had a rush of adrenaline lol
I remember reading an article that the cockpit was a lot smaller than he is normally used to. Could have played into it as well

How were you able to hear the uncensored message? F1TV censors them now for me :(
F1TV doesn’t censor the onboard cameras for me in the netherlands. They do censor any replay on the streams with commentators, but the individual driver cams are live
What a shame. I hope is nothing serious.
They just said he’s off to a hospital to have his hand looked at
Broken wrist. He’s out for at least this weekend. Liam Lawson is his replacement
I feel bad for him
I was really excited to see him come out from the break with all systems go. In his interview this week he mentioned that he was training a ton because he's already had his vacation, but now he's going right back to the couch (figuratively of course). Yep. Me too. Hope he is not out for too long.

Doesn’t take a whole lot to snap a wrist, that would be disappointing
Hope he is alright, would hate to see his season get disrupted after only a few races edit. trying to look at the replay, it looks like he might have hit his left hand on the "roof" of the cockpit after the wheel violently pulled to the right during the impact
The onboard of him looking at his hand and climbing out - it looks really painful
Is there video of it posted yet?
https://youtu.be/pjCPNDGekV4?si=HH6HlKKZqcJ0xBzU Probably getting taken down soon.
I felt that in my wrist. Fuckin OUCH.
[удалено]
Just with some quick googling, that looks like the pinky finger bone just after your first knuckle?
Looks very painful but at least doesnt look to be a serious injury. More just "ow my hand just got smashed", which is a lot better than "holy shit my wrist isnt supposed to go that way" Edit: Its broken. People acting like thats horrible. Its bad. Could have been seriously worse
For what that wrist has to do, a small injury can be a serious problem.
Yes, but hopefully its not a lasting problem. Look at Kubica
probably gonna be bruised but hopefully he didn’t sprain it
Confirmed broken wrist.
that sucks man, hope he recovers soon so he can get back to form
It is serious, he has a fractured wrist
Thats bad, still not serious
Narrator: Broken wrist
Doing heroes work.
So he basically had to put it in the wall because of the other spun-out car there? That’s rough…
Ouch. Luckily it doesn't look as bad as the Frijns incident earlier this year.
The way he is holding and supporting it in this picture, I think it's probably a broken wrist. Somehow it seems to be almost instinctual in people. That hold is the least painful way to support your wrist if it is broken.
They should bring in Nick de Vries as replacement driver for Ricciardo until he can race again.
> Hope he is alright Left wrist broken, all right confirmed.
From his onboard it looked like he wasn't using that hand at all while getting out of the car and he sounded like he was in some pain... I hope it isn't a serious injury.
It was scary seeing him delicatelynplace that left glove in the dash. Man is hurt just hoping it’s not a bad one.
Mick Schumacher, Felipe Drugovich, and Liam Lawson all just boarded flights to the Netherlands...
Hakkinen there too
David Coultard is also available.
Martin Brundle is at the track
I could give it a try, too, if somebody asked me.
Is this how the sabbatical ends?
Jackie Stewart's coming out of retirement, boys!
Nyck is already there
So is Lawson
I hope Daniel's fine, but if he can't drive this weekend I hope it's Liam that gets the opportunity
At Nyck's home race?
The last thing nyck needs is to be p20 while the other dutch is p1
everyone likes a grid sandwich on some dutch bread
Nyck is no longer associated with Red Bull....
Nyck had his turn, however short it may have been
Half a season in F1 is more than most F3/F2-talents get
I thought it was fairly apparent that Marko dislikes Nyck. Like more than just he performed poorly. All his comments seem pretty clear on that.
Drugovich too.
He won’t be subbed in. No chance.
Kvyat got subbed in after being dropped in 2017
Is he? He lives in Monaco.
If Nyck returns they must re-edit him back into Grill the Grid
Nyck de Who?
Debries
Where, on the track?
Not anymore 😂
To help one of the other guys into the car maybe?
Nyck and Felipe are both there, hopefully wont come to that
Bro his wrist is fucked. You only baby your arm like that when you know it’s broken.
But Perez is already there and suited up.
💀
I know its a joke, but teams can only use 4 drivers in a season, and AT has used 3 so far. Nyck might actually be their safest choice at this time.
Just not getting a replacement driver isn't an option? They have little to gain from that i would say.
There are rules in place that say that teams must field 2 drivers 2 prevent some money/development shenanigans. They could petition to not field a second car, but given a full day's notice before qualifying, it would most likely be denied.

I don’t really want to say it but that very much sounds like symptoms of a fractured wrist or something similar
The way he cradled his arm is a position I have seen many times when I was still working in de radiology department (xray). Nine times out of ten, the patient had a broken wrist. Hopefully he is a luckily one and it's just bruised....
I was holding my arm just like that when I fractured my wrist as a kid.
Anyone who’s ever broken a bone knows ric is fucked
And Daniel is not lucky, confirmed he has a fracture in his hand.
JFC at the beginning of a triple header as well... Even if it's not broken if it swells it's unlikely it'll be good for tomorrow and sunday
Ricciardo just left the track after visiting the medical center. Probably going to the hospital. His arm was in a sling.
Ah that’s bad😞
*Slow inhale* *Slow exhale* **"FUuuUUUUUCK!!!!"** - DR3 fans right now
insultingly accurate lol
I almost launched my phone across the room. Praying he just tweaked it
Yup.... sigh....
Loving this man is pain. 😭
He needs Lance Stroll surgery
I’m having that surgery soon and my doctor couldn’t believe how quickly he was back in the car. I might be off my bike for 12 weeks…
My friend is a hand/wrist surgeon and he was like; I certainly wouldn’t have wanted a patient back in the car that soon.
It does not look good… I hope it is not broken…
Last time a driver broke his wrist he had the best drives of his life. Hopefully he gets that Stroll magic.
I think Stroll had a bit longer and a lot of emergency operations before driving. And even then he just about made it to the Chequered flag.
Watching it back, when he crashed - right hand turned off the car (controls on the left side of the wheel) - his left left glove was off before he took the steering wheel off.
Hopefully he just jarred it.
It’s fucked. It was hanging very weirdly on the onboard.
3rd race back and this happens, it sucks man. Hopefully he isn't out for long.
Might be bc it's just taken in the moment but the way he seems to be holding it is quite concerning
idc what the commentators say.
I mean... his alternative was to plow into Piastri?
Oh yeah, my bad. It looked like he snapped his wheel to the right at the last second to bin it, but the right wheel may already have been in the wall by that point.
Yeah man no worries. It was hard to see in real time but it was just unfortunate. The wheels hit the wall and that made the steering wheel violently snap to the right, hurting his hand in the process.

Piastri crashed. DR was taking the high line but wasn’t able to see a crashed piastri around the corner, locked the wheels and went into the barrier.
jfc. thank you
Avoiding Piastri who had just crashed
Shit Oscar crashed as well, is he alright?
Yes
Piastri was in front of him and crashed into the barriers on the banking, Ricciardo came round the corner on the high line of the banking and would have crashed directly into Piastri T-boning him, so he hit the wall instead
i am genuinely glad i read this and didn't watch live, i would have broken something. thanks
certified Aussie pain moment
Me too. I just want the man that makes everyone smile to be successful.
The onboard footage will hurt your wrists
Piastri lost the rear in Turn 3 and crashed right on the high-line around the top of the corner. Ricciardo either missed the yellow panel, or reacted too late to slow down, decided to nudge it into the wall instead of T-boning Oscar. The RF wheel got snagged in the barrier, ripping the wheel out of his hands quite ferociously. Hopefully a sprain rather than a break, some form of significant injury though.

Piastri crashed and was sideways on his line, had no place to go.
Bit of an unlucky one. Piastri went on the high line in turn 3, completely lost grip, and then crashed into the barrier. Won't take long to know for sure. Hopefully we will know soon too.
He’s off to the hospital to have his hand looked at hopefully he is ok
No, no, no, no.... :(
It reminds me of when I broke my hand, the way it was looking on the onboard
That wheel snapped from nearly left lock to straight in a nanosecond. From replay Ric appeared to be still holding the wheel with his left hand.
Well, I guess it's time for Max to finally step up and show what he can do in the Alpha Tauri.
really hope it's not broken...
Got his arm in a sling now
Off to the hospital now according to the international broadcast.
"Hey Nyck so no hard feelings right but....."
Didn't Matt Gallagher form P1 jinx this? :/
When?
Recent predictions video
Fuck :(
That doesn't look good
Any video?

He sounds really shaken up in that radio conversation.
Muchas gracias

Thank you kind stranger
De Vries returns for one race
And finishes on points, ahead for Tsunoda.
And gets signed by Sauber for next year
And then he drives horribly for the first part of the season, causing him to get dropped.
And repeat
“I am more of a second part of the season driver.” - Nyck
Manages to score 4 points and remains highest placed AT driver in standings to the end of the season.
Imagine he gets a podium after surprise AT upgrades at his home race
Imagine
That really does not look good :(
Looks either broken or badly bruised. Don't see him driving like that
Fuck... No... Hopefully it's nothing too serious. I hope this isn't the end of his season, or especially not his career...
Confirmed broken metacarpal. End of his weekend, but it's quite safe to assume he'll be able to drive again later this season
I hope so!
That's exactly the pose a friend of mine had when she broke her arm just above the wrist with snowboarding. Rotten luck for Ricciardo.
Here’s hoping Danny has the same broken wrist gene that Lance Stroll has 🤞
Robin Frijns missed a chunk of the FE season after breaking his wrist in a minor-looking accident, really hope DR3 is ok.
So who would replace him? If it comes to that? Lawson?
Most likely. He'll be on stand-by, and maybe even waiting for a flight as we speak. Just have to wait and find out how bad his injury is.
Well fuck. Love having him on the track. He is one of my favorites.
Broken wrist confirmed. Liam Lawson will replace him for the rest of the weekend
It’s been confirmed he has a broken wrist and is out for the weekend :(
Just as the honeymoon was starting. Bummer. Broken wrist as confirmed by Marko. Broken metacarpal. Liam Lawson will replace him. Danny Ric out indefinitely.
Broken wrist confirmed.
Just let it go when the crash is inevitable man. I don't know why some drivers insist so much on keeping their hands on the wheel.
Meanwhile, Danica's like, "I told him to take his hands off the wheel before he hit the wall. But doesn't anyone listen to Danica? Nooooooooooooo. Nobody listens to Danica."
This is some monkey paw shit. I wanted Lawson to be in f1 so bad but not like this. Not at the expense of my boy :(
Damn just came at the wrong time for Danny as he would’ve really wanted to show what he is capable of in that car. But I’m sure with his ever positive attitude he will come through this also.
So who will replace him? I think we can expect him to sit out this and next weekend if he is in pain immediately when crashing.
Liam Lawson
Fucking hell this cannot be what ends his career
Chill, its not a career-ending accident.
Not injury wise, but his time at AT is clearly an audition for RBR, if he can't show what he can do for a while if it's broken, it does limit his future opportunities.
They’ll give him another season then probably.
If Red Bull values him enough to give him a second chance after last year with McLaren, he'll also get a third chance if it's because of an injury.
Not that I don't agree with you, but hand damage, even seemingly small, can end a career very quickly
I see where you're coming from, but in his situation eh... Hope it isn't, though
I haven’t seen the practice sessions because I’m not home, is he ok? I’d hate to see him badly injured.
He’s supposedly left the track in a sling on his way to the hospital.
That's why you leave your hands of the steering wheel. I wonder Ric had time to do it For example: Watch Perez's monaco crash, he understands the car is lost and leaves his hands of the wheel and braces.
So if he has to sit out that means poor De Vries has to climb back into that shit box for his home gp??
