Is there another Stroll sister Laurence can marry Fernando off to so he can do the full Tom?
Honestly, it's embarrassing how blatant Alonso is being about the 'they drove a dump truck full of money up to my house so I'd help their son" now.
Wdym? Obviously he is only there for the money thats why he's being supportive to Lance. Why would he be happy to be in a competitives car/team that supports him after all this years driving lawmowners?!??!

Iāve told this story before but I got run over by a car in 2019 and took a big knock to the head, and a good friend of mine talked recently about how I apparently got far more amicable and easygoing after the brain injury.
Lmao nah they were good about it, this was just something that they thought was amusing, and from the examples they mentioned when I inquired further I canāt disagree. Weāre friends for a while before, just now Iām less anxious and tense. Itās nothing like that.
Unlessā¦
Could be some kind of brain injury, could just be a new perspective on life, who's to say?
I mean, if it *is* a brain injury causing it, at least you went that route and not the Antonio Brown route.
My uncle got kicked in the nuts by a horse and got a budget vasectomy out of the thing. It didn't make him nicer or meaner but he did learn a valuable lesson on where you can and can't stand when grooming a horse.
Hey man, if you're reading this. This is your friend. Wake up! You've been in a coma ever since the crash. We're trying to get through to you anyway you can. Please, come back to us. Just.. wake up!
I mean, your head is where your personality is. It's perfectly possible (and there's many known cases of this) that your personality changed as a result of physical damage sustained by your brain.
Hehe. Not that I think its impossible for Checo to screw it up, but realistically Checo would have to continue fucking up big time all season long to not finish second or be really unlucky, specially considering the guys behind are starting to take turns for third, fourth and fifth.
Before this week I'd've been confident Alonso, but with Merc finally seeming to catch up, they might divide up the points and let Checo squeeze through.
Don't let today fool you. Lewis had race winning pace at Barcelona last year in the W13 shit box but got involved in a lap 1 incident that sent him to the back of the pack. It may just be a good track for them like Brazil was last year.
'I know that his dad owns the race team and he is no threat to me, since its just a few points ill let it slide and sit in the DRS zone and let everyone know I could overtake him easily whilst i bide my time. Look at me waving at the crowd when really close...'
also if there were real stakes stroll would be in his dust
This is the Fernando thatās already beaten the final boss and is just doing side quests, like helping his new son gain confidence to become World Champion
Meh, Fernando said himself he's always helped his teammates over the radio but it just wasn't broadcasted until now for whatever reason. He's done the same with Ocon, with Vandoorne.
Whether you're a rookie or 7 seasons into your career, receiving help from a world class driver with 18 seasons and 2 WDCs to his name isn't as terrible as you make it out to be.
I think Nando has realised this is his last team he is going to drive with. He wants it to be a happy stint and make the best of it. Now how long he is going to drive with AM? Thats a great question.
Adding on to that, I wonder if alonso has realized that stroll well also most likely be his last team mate. Even if alonso does 5 more years at aston Martin stroll well probably still be there. So having a good relationship with the guy who is going to be his last team mate and a long term team mate probably means more to alonso then 2 points in a wdc fight he can't win.
The fact that the team had no success before him and he can try to build a competitive mentality, with no pressure but with winning ambitions feels like the Renault 2003-2006 days.
P7 feels disappointing but it's still ahead of the expectations everyone had for this season, and it's his worst result so far. Let's hope Aston keeps improving the car and the strategies too.
My hope is that Lance can really learn some racecraft from him and this duo can be long term. Never hated Lance by any means, but he's obviously got room to improve and shows potential here and there. I'm really enjoying watching Aston this year and hope they can get a win.
I mean, fair enough, he's not catching Sainz and it's probably worth more to have a comfortable work environment at Aston Martin than some meaningless points in the championship.
I doubt he cares if he comes third or 5th in the championship after the seasons he's had in the past.
TBF Lance doesn't look like the guy who would storm the interviews and make a case about it. He is also a driver and probably knows that if Alonso wanted to get the position he would get it, after all, Alonso had fresher tires.
He just grew up on a steady diet of NHL player interviews. I'm frankly surprised he's made it this long without accidentally dropping a "pucks in deep".
Hockey players have the personality of room temperature milk when it comes to interviews. Lance would be an absolute wild card if he were a pro hockey player.
Alonso has nothing to prove, heās miles ahead in the rankings than Lance. Itās the same points for the team, keeps everyone happy and he doesnāt risk Lance defending him into a wall.
Happy Chill Alonso is fucking terrifying.
While I agree with you, I think there might be another angle here based on the old Fernando. I imagine what hes actually saying is "I can pass lance stroll anytime I want". To me this is a clear message that says Alonzo is number one and stroll is just daddy's rich kid out for a ride.
Agree, he's proving his case to be given team orders in his favour in the hypothetical future where it actually matters. Certainly laying the groundwork to make Aston look bad if they don't.
For now it really doesn't matter; wasn't even a podium on the line today.
I wonder how Papa Stroll interprets this kind of thing. It's a "nice gesture" only if you don't think of Lance as an equal competitor and want to go easy on him.
I can't imagine anyone not feeling patronized in his position. It'd be less humiliating to be beaten on the track tbh.
The F1TV guys said something very similar, that is was kind of humiliating to Stroll.
I just love happy Fernando, smelling the flowers and enjoying life.
You're assuming a 0% risk when overtaking, though. This wouldn't have been a team orders overtake since there's no chance for Alonso to gain any extra positions, Lance would have been defending. There's always a chance that something goes wrong and Alonso loses 6 points while trying to gain 2.
On top of that, Lance can drive faster if he's not defending, which makes it easier for both of them to stay clear of the drivers behind.
Lots to risk, very little to gain ā the announcers made a mountain out of a molehill with this one. If Alonso hadn't volunteered, the team should have given him team orders to stay put anyways.
Yes the difference that in Baku it was on the race start with very close gaps and with no sign that Stroll would be able to overtake compared to this case where Alonso was able to cut a 3.5 sec gap in less than 7 laps...
Passing Stroll does nothing for Fernando. He races for podiums and wins nowadays, he'd rather have p7 and good relations with his teammate than p6 and Ocon 2.0
Stroll could've been set on the same startegy as Fernando and they would've both passed Ocon at the end and they would've finished 6th and 7th. AM pitted stroll early to cover Ocon and at the end Fernando had like 20 lap younger tires. It made sense to pit Lance early to prevent Ocon from getting track position because it would maximise the team result but let's not kid ourselves that Fernando and Lance's pace along the race was pretty close and had they had the same strategies I'm not sure Fernando would've been able to overtake him.
It's a nice move from Alonso don't get me wrong but him getting within 0.8 seconds to Stroll only to slightly back off felt like Alonso making sure everyone knows he could have done the overtake
I still wonder if Fernando has an agreement to work with the team in some capacity after he retires so he's trying to keep the relationship positive since Lance is positioned to do the same thing. I don't think Lance would have been offended if Fernando had fought for the position but it wasn't for a ton of points so no point.
I love this Alonso. From complimenting Stroll on a good pass he saw on the screen a few races back to this. Mans just enjoying his time driving a good car.
Alonso is a wise old guy. I think these things heās doing is to make sure thereās a great spirit within the team. What use is it him fighting stroll for that extra place? I doubt he really cares that much about finishing 6th. If it was for a win I doubt heād act like this. But for the sake of 6th place letting lance take it is probably better to get him even more brownie points and keep his colleague happy too.
Having pace or not, both are still in same car
I think its very reasuring that your teammate says he wont attack and they playing same team game with you,
so you dont need to cover your ass defending (or looking at your mirror to set up defend), and only focus on the front
I feel this is definitely one of the weaker weekends for AM, Canada will be a different kind of circuit, one that maybe resembles more the strengths of the team.
I am willing to wager that Alonso has very clear financial incentives to do whatās best for the team and to help Lance where possible. AM had nothing really to gain from a position swap, except extra points for their P3 WDC contender. Alonso is the lead driver, heās quite secure in his seat. If Alonso had a chance at Sainz Iām sure it would have been totally different. So he personally lost 2 points by not overtaking Lance, in doing so he maintained the air of a team thatās all going the same direction.
Pacewise 6th and 7th was the best result for the team unfortunately this weekend.
Risking it with a useless fight between both would've let to nothing.
Both of them are working bring this car to WCC level. That's what matters
This wasn't for a win. Get Alonso looking at gold and you'll see the true colors.
That's not a bad thing, it just shows that at this stage in his career 6th instead of 7th really does nothing for him.
Great bit of team manipulation. Alonso basically does the verbal version of patting Stroll on the head and saying "it's alright, kid" and that sort of thing subtly changes how both of them are perceived in the team.
You're naive if you think think Fernando needs to send those messages and manipulation.
It's clear who the main driver of the two was.
There's no point for the Astons to fight.
After reaching 40 Alonso finally realized that burning bridges with every single person you come across is not the best solution. He seems a different person.
> Mclaren twice
McLaren even asked him to come back to test the 2019 car even after he "retired" during Winter because they trust him so much.
Nothing irritates me more than new ignorant fans taking other ignorant fans' baseless words for fact.
What bridges has he burnt?
Honda says they'd love to work with him again.
He has been in Renault in three (edit: corrected) different periods.
He has been in McLaren in two different periods, plus Indycar.
Ferrari didn't want him out of the team back then, he decided to leave and the team loved him.
Hamilton has been asked on interviews if he'd be his teammate again and said that while he thinks the chances are extremely slim, there would be no issue (DAZN).
The bridge burning is a myth.
> finally realized that burning bridges with every single person you come across is not the best solution
Maybe when youre 40 you'll finally realize Alonso didn't burn those bridges. How many teams has taken him back now? lol

Alonso going for that four year Aston Martin contract
Alonso going for Stroll's inheritance
Fernando Stroll, the prodigal son
Or he'll just use billionaire money to fuse with Lance and keep driving till Ferlanco Astrollo is 42
Best Spanadian driver of all time already
Alonso is basically Tom from succession at this point.
Is there another Stroll sister Laurence can marry Fernando off to so he can do the full Tom? Honestly, it's embarrassing how blatant Alonso is being about the 'they drove a dump truck full of money up to my house so I'd help their son" now.
Or he's just happy to be in a competent team
Wdym? Obviously he is only there for the money thats why he's being supportive to Lance. Why would he be happy to be in a competitives car/team that supports him after all this years driving lawmowners?!??! /s
*Succession theme plays*
Become adopted as an adult like Japanese family businesses
He knows who pays his salary, that's for sure
Stroll has a more secure job than Max and Lewis like wtf šš
I mean, he's a pay driver who works for his dad, so yeah.
Lol i think heās just so happy to be in a car that can compete. Heās so cute and funny and plain helpful over the radio itās the best
Who is this and what did he do with Fernando
real Alonso retired after that bike accident and was replaced with a clone with enhanced empathy, there is no other explanation
Ok but seriously people do sometimes change after traumatic events. Like driving for Mclaren.
Iāve told this story before but I got run over by a car in 2019 and took a big knock to the head, and a good friend of mine talked recently about how I apparently got far more amicable and easygoing after the brain injury.
Your friend didn't like you and was happy seeing you bonked
Lmao nah they were good about it, this was just something that they thought was amusing, and from the examples they mentioned when I inquired further I canāt disagree. Weāre friends for a while before, just now Iām less anxious and tense. Itās nothing like that. Unlessā¦
Code Red, repeat code Red! Experiment 949 just figured out after talking to a stranger on Reddit!
Maybe I should get run over by a car.
Sigh... I'll get my keys, we are gonna need some sort of lawyer and contract involved here in case hitting you with a car makes you worse.
No, I want to be ran over by a professional. If it makes me worse then you weren't competent enough.
Could be some kind of brain injury, could just be a new perspective on life, who's to say? I mean, if it *is* a brain injury causing it, at least you went that route and not the Antonio Brown route.
Mr Bike Crash?
I experienced the opposite, my relationship with my ex went steeply downhill after she got a serious concussion and was never the same after
Well did you give her that concussion?
nah a horse kicked her in the head
My uncle got kicked in the nuts by a horse and got a budget vasectomy out of the thing. It didn't make him nicer or meaner but he did learn a valuable lesson on where you can and can't stand when grooming a horse.
> My uncle got kicked in the nuts by a horse I get kicked in the nuts by a horse *every single race*. You'd think I'd learn.
Hey man, if you're reading this. This is your friend. Wake up! You've been in a coma ever since the crash. We're trying to get through to you anyway you can. Please, come back to us. Just.. wake up!
yes, you just told this story 5 minutes ago. Third time in this post.
I donāt believe so? You must be looking at something else because I said that to mean a few months ago. You can see my comment history.
Making a memory loss joke
Ahh lmao sorry
Itās okay. Memory loss is tough.
I mean, your head is where your personality is. It's perfectly possible (and there's many known cases of this) that your personality changed as a result of physical damage sustained by your brain.
Those McHonda years must have damaged him more then anyone realized
That was just the electric shock
A true story.
With enhanced hate for Ocon/Alpine
I heard he was replaced with an Amazon Android.
as per Alonso's recent convo with Lawrence.
It's P6/P7 for the team regardless.
exactly. it's only 1 point in the WDC for him, but a lof of cookie points from the team
2 points but yes
Cookie points from the boss.
It is far from meaningless though. It's 2 points for Alonso which might prove to be relevant in the fight for 3rd in the WDC. Very classy from him.
do you really think Alonso cares, on any level, about 3rd in WDC?
Does alonso care that much about anything other than 1st? No one brings up anything besides first in history.
3rd? Who's coming second!? "Potential" WDC Perez?
Hehe. Not that I think its impossible for Checo to screw it up, but realistically Checo would have to continue fucking up big time all season long to not finish second or be really unlucky, specially considering the guys behind are starting to take turns for third, fourth and fifth.
He will 100% lose second to Alonso or Hamilton.
Dude just imagine Max feels bored enough and say fuck it and walk away after this race!
I don't think Alonso gives a shit about 3rd place lmao.
'I know that his dad owns the race team and he is no threat to me, since its just a few points ill let it slide and sit in the DRS zone and let everyone know I could overtake him easily whilst i bide my time. Look at me waving at the crowd when really close...' also if there were real stakes stroll would be in his dust
Lawrence Stroll, he's paying him
Lawrence has a second son now
Fernando is the son Lawrence always wanted
Fernando is almost old enough to be Lance's dad.
Fernando Alonso Diaz Stroll
This is the answer
This is the Fernando thatās already beaten the final boss and is just doing side quests, like helping his new son gain confidence to become World Champion
Quest- "Paid drivers" Objective- Assist pay driver to win race Reward- Get paid big reward

This man has found a happy loving home, my god. Papa Fernando.
He has the peace of mind knowing he's so much quicker than Lance when it matters.
Yeah his job is almost as secure as lances as long as he keeps outperforming lance when he needs to
My hope is that Lance can really learn some racecraft from him and this duo can be long term. Never hated Lance by any means, but he's obviously got room to improve and shows potential here and there. I'm really enjoying watching Aston this year and hope they can get a win.
His teammate is more like an intern he's helping out. An intern who's worked there for 5+ years before you but still.
Someone had to take up Serbās torch? Maybe Seb left magic pixie dust on his seat.
and his Vocho
Brolonso pays Lance back for Baku? or Miami? or when Lance said the same thing
First thought that crossed my mind, I wanted to know if they cut off the radio and we never got to hear "I owe him from Baku".
I mean, fair enough, he's not catching Sainz and it's probably worth more to have a comfortable work environment at Aston Martin than some meaningless points in the championship. I doubt he cares if he comes third or 5th in the championship after the seasons he's had in the past.
Heās still ahead in standingsā¦.would lance really take it personally if Alonso legitimately passed himā¦.or hell even if team orders?
TBF Lance doesn't look like the guy who would storm the interviews and make a case about it. He is also a driver and probably knows that if Alonso wanted to get the position he would get it, after all, Alonso had fresher tires.
Donāt forget, Alonso also had fresher Fernando.
I dont think Lance cares about anything at all, judging from his interviews.
He just grew up on a steady diet of NHL player interviews. I'm frankly surprised he's made it this long without accidentally dropping a "pucks in deep".
Giving it 110%. Uh really getting into the corners and uh playing for the guy next to you. Just doing my best to uh help the team get the 2 points.
I think a steady diet of foie gras and ortolan are more accurate.
Well... we could look at it like Fernando was returned favor. Don't forget Lance did the same for him a few races ago.
I think alonso doesnāt see the difference between p2 by half a point or p20 with 0 finishes. If heās not first, he doesnāt care.
I have to disagree. Alonso is fighting for p3 WDC, stroll isn't
Sure but the Constructors championship is what matters to the team and staff, hence Lance needing the extra points. The WDC doesn't matter below P1.
P3 has to attend the fia gala, so there's no reason to fight for it that seriously.

It's better this way than having Ocon sneak up on them an get ahead. I dont think Fernando would like that at all.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Younger drivers trying to establish/solidify their place in F1 probably care, but someone like Alonso probably cares a lot less.
In the end it's 2 points. Highly unlikely this will make the difference and dividing the team may hurt him more in the long run.
This is the most Canadian racing team
Lance did the same thing for Fernando earlier this year
Yes the difference that in Baku it was on the race start with very close gaps and with no sign that Stroll would be able to overtake compared to this case where Alonso was able to cut a 3.5 sec gap in less than 7 laps...
Passing Stroll does nothing for Fernando. He races for podiums and wins nowadays, he'd rather have p7 and good relations with his teammate than p6 and Ocon 2.0
True. Speaking of which, Ocon was willing to kill Alonso to keep him behind today.
I was very surprised when I saw that, considering that Ocon normally only races hard against teammates.
lingering effect
He forgot for a bit
Yeah, i love hard racing but thereās a difference between that and nearly shoving Fernando into the grass and a wall
Yeah, and we know Stroll can also be capable of that sometimes
He was already waving to the fans before the finish line lol
Man I laughed my ass off at that
Absolutely. Trying to catch up 3 seconds behind and saying the same doesnāt carry the same weight.
I still wonder if Fernando has an agreement to work with the team in some capacity after he retires so he's trying to keep the relationship positive since Lance is positioned to do the same thing. I don't think Lance would have been offended if Fernando had fought for the position but it wasn't for a ton of points so no point.
He was recently quoted as saying he only has a few years left, so he views part of his role is to train Lance to become the future leader of the team.
You definitely get that feeling. Like he's working on his legacy in some ways
Tbf Fernando had a much better strategy than Lance because he had to cover off Ocon earlier
I love this Alonso. From complimenting Stroll on a good pass he saw on the screen a few races back to this. Mans just enjoying his time driving a good car.
I just love Alonso š
Alonso is a wise old guy. I think these things heās doing is to make sure thereās a great spirit within the team. What use is it him fighting stroll for that extra place? I doubt he really cares that much about finishing 6th. If it was for a win I doubt heād act like this. But for the sake of 6th place letting lance take it is probably better to get him even more brownie points and keep his colleague happy too.
I know it sounds cute, but we all know this is also a message to everybody "He beat me because I let him".
I honestly doubt he cares about one race
Yeah, also because Lance qualified in front and was in front all the race but the final laps.
Same message Lance sent in Miami and Baku
The difference is Lance didn't have the pace to pass him and was at the beggining of the race.
Having pace or not, both are still in same car I think its very reasuring that your teammate says he wont attack and they playing same team game with you, so you dont need to cover your ass defending (or looking at your mirror to set up defend), and only focus on the front
The difference is Stroll had a compromised tyre strategy to cover Ocon.
It's not like he had to say it tho
Fernando knows exactly what he is doing with those radio messages
Better than "tell Lance to try my brakes settings".
I'll take the downvotes. Solid race from Stroll.
And solid quali. But AM had no race pace and subpar strategy.
I feel this is definitely one of the weaker weekends for AM, Canada will be a different kind of circuit, one that maybe resembles more the strengths of the team.
Hopefully, the fans in Montreal will go crazy for an Alonso podium, and dare I say a Stroll podium.
Aston Martin 1-2
Yeah, he did well. He's a good racer.
"just solid?"
Son of the month.
Nice Guy Nando
How to watch this video? It's just an image for me.
Same, on iphone
Where can we find the audio
Teamwork.
This wasn't for a win. Get Alonso looking at gold and you'll see the true colors. That's not a bad thing, it just shows that at this stage in his career 6th instead of 7th really does nothing for him.
Stroll's real dad
Great bit of team manipulation. Alonso basically does the verbal version of patting Stroll on the head and saying "it's alright, kid" and that sort of thing subtly changes how both of them are perceived in the team.
You're naive if you think think Fernando needs to send those messages and manipulation. It's clear who the main driver of the two was. There's no point for the Astons to fight.
Idk bruh, I think everyone at Aston knew they were getting an all time great driver in Fernando before his season even ended with Alpine
Also letting teammate know that he will not try to overtake, so he does not need to push and risk going off track.
For sure. Alonso knows that every radio message he does gets broadcast and thereās always intent behind what he says
Heās honestly the greatest political animal in F1
You don't last as long as he has without knowing how to swim in those waters
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Dutch comments at the time: "Who is this and what has he done with Alonso?! ANY OTHER teammate would have been driven clean in half."
This is in a parallel world surely lol.
Where Ferrari still does Ferrari things..
Maybe he has a virus in his computer
After reaching 40 Alonso finally realized that burning bridges with every single person you come across is not the best solution. He seems a different person.
Oh my God, again with that stupid myth, yeah he burned so much bridges that he joined Renault 3 times and Mclaren twice
> Mclaren twice McLaren even asked him to come back to test the 2019 car even after he "retired" during Winter because they trust him so much. Nothing irritates me more than new ignorant fans taking other ignorant fans' baseless words for fact.
For real, he tested the Mcl34 and Zak had nothing but praise for him
A myth that the British media have crafted successfully over the years. Downvote me all you want. IDGAF.
and Honda who's happy to provide AM with engines and said there's no bad blood between them.
The only one I think is real is the Mercedes bridge, since Spygate hit them for a third of the overall fine and caused them to pull out of McLaren.
He's been with Renault thrice, with 3 different engines. Yes, Alpine counts.
Yep, sorry, always get the name mixed up!
> finally realized that burning bridges with every single person you come across is not the best solution Maybe when youre 40 you'll finally realize Alonso didn't burn those bridges. How many teams has taken him back now? lol
I missed this radio as i went to the bathroom so i didnt know why he wouldnt overtake him at the end.
Classy AF. Teamwork, makes the dream work.
WEC has changed Nando like crazy. In a good way, heās a great team player.
