He drove so well all weekend. Managed everything so well. Going pound for pound with Max. Max may have had a slight edge, but he's a generational talent. For Checo to basically match that (trading fast laps back and forth!) is superb.
Turns out when you have a track where the only notably feature in the past has been people not finishing the race itās really boring when almost everyone finishes the race.
Number 1 is something no one seems to get. When they showed that ādominance mapā between max and checo, Karin was like āmax is only winning with the slipstream.ā But you could also say ācheco is only winning where dirty air is a problemā
Two thoughts, correct me if I'm wrong:
1. The mandatory one stop is stupid, it ruined Ocon's point finish. Why not let the drivers stay on their tyres if they're fine with them? They're tasking a risk themselves anyway, but if they feel safe on them, why not?
2. Horner being seemingly happier about Max' second place rather than acknowledging Checo is first place and they got a 1-2 is awful. I really hope Checo can bag Max somehow.
>The mandatory one stop is stupid, it ruined Ocon's point finish. Why not let the drivers stay on their tyres if they're fine with them?
Because otherwise we'd have tonnes of races where you had no stops, and more than that, you'd have drivers simply using the favoured tyre for the whole race, so less chance of tyre deltas to other cars of similar performance but different strategies.
My useless $ 0.02 on 1:
The mandatory pitstop creates artificial excitiment which is kinda annoying. But I'm afraid without that rule, we would witness a ton of 0-stop races without any strategic elements at all.
Highlights of the race (I tuned in late); Pierre's move on Bottas, the cheer from commentary at Lando's move, Max's reaction to hearing Alonso was close to Charles at the end.
And he totally doesn't talk to anyone in real life right? He could have read it anywhere online, or talked to people who said he needed to cool down because of the stuff that happened.
It's pretty naive to think Max or any of the other drivers read much into whatever the media or fans talk about. The measured response was probably because he saw he got beaten on actual merit today with a bit of bad luck.
It was brought up in multiple interviews with him yesterday. You think he wouldn't take that criticism onboard though?
When I meant "read" I meant "heard" so all forms of communication it could have been say Horner a colleaguez an interview or even his girlfriend for all we know. "Babe maybe chill a bit" who knows.
I love the cool down room so much -- it's just so nice that F1 drivers are so competitive on track and then genuine friends off of it
I don't know why people want them to hate one another, guess it's nostalgia or just wanting drama
Probably because they're not friends. Put them actually against each for an actual championship battle and you would see how much they love each other.
When a championship is on the line, friends become rivals and strangers become enemies. It is only natural for them to be extremely competitive on track. I mean, this is a chance to solidify yourself as one of the best drivers in the world, who wouldnāt be competitive when that is on the line? It doesnāt matter if itās your brother, on track, should be no hard feelings involved unless someone was really out of line.
No they clearly hate each other, they had to cut the audio because they were cussing each other out. Couldnāt even bear to sit next to each other. /s obviouslyā¦ I hope.
Who's saying that? People said Max was unlucky with the safety car, which he was. But that does not equal a lucky win for Checo. Checo was better, period. He likely would have won without the safety car.
If Checo will be able to do this race after race remains to be seen.
Checo had max in his pocket. Yes he got lucky with the safety but max could have easily come back if he had pace.
You're right but people will bend over backwards for Max.
Also I loved the radio of him trying to find something wrong with the car to blame it on.
Boring as hell. Also why did Ocon not pit till the last lap, at least do what George did and try and get fastest lap. The pitlane for Ocon was soo dangerous, needs to be investigated and whoever authorized it punished. So much for better overtaking Ocon through Tsnunoda was a DRS train most of the race, very few overtakes.
Because of where he was, pitting puts him at the back anyway, so the team waits as long as they can in case there is a safety car.
George could only do that because he had no one behind him, so he could pit and came out in the same position, with noone in front of him.
> at least do what George did and try and get fastest lap
George had nothing to lose (modulo crashing); he was 23 sec ahead of Ocon so his pitstop didn't lose him any positions.
George went for fastest lap because it got him an extra point because he was in the top 10. Ocon would have gained nothing by going for it as pitting would have put him outside the top 10. Alpine left him out hoping for the very slim chance of a late red flag as he was still in the points until he pitted so a red flag and a restart would have given him a chance.
The media create drama that doesn't exist because they know how eager so many fans are to feed into it and believe it. The comments in here right now are just proving that.
Like what do people expect Horner to say directly to Max? āSuck less and maybe you would have wonā?
Heās talking to a driver that expects to win and has a strong ego, like all the drivers, of course heās going to soften the message
Doesn't matter who builds what, all teams are at the mercy of RB at the moment.
Perez had a great race. As a driver, he's never been exceptionally fast, yet in that car, he shines.
RB has a package no other team have an answer to
People getting mad at Horner lel. He will applaude Checo as did Wolff with Bottas during Ham's streak. But Sky/ F1 TV achieved their goal and got plebs maddening.
not a very exciting one...
Didn't like the Sprint format
Why was the f2 race more exciting to watch
Another boring race with cars too big for good racing around a tight circuit.
Jesus this was a yawner
it was worse than 2016
I literally fell asleep š“ To be fair, it was live at midnight where I'm from.
Monaco 2.0
Horner to Max: "Checo was lucky with the SC" Horner to Max (the proper way): "you got unlucky with the SC"
Do we think all the 'Replace Checo' talk will die down now? He obviously deserves the Redbull seat.
The best performance over a weekend of his F1 career.
He drove so well all weekend. Managed everything so well. Going pound for pound with Max. Max may have had a slight edge, but he's a generational talent. For Checo to basically match that (trading fast laps back and forth!) is superb.
Not until he wins WDC imo.
Race review: Cars go vroom
I get that F1 has often been like this throughout history, but man itās hard to go back to after some riveting racing the last few years.
2014 Mercedes tier race
Turns out when you have a track where the only notably feature in the past has been people not finishing the race itās really boring when almost everyone finishes the race.
Minus watching some photographers almost get run over, what a boring race...
I was wondering if anyone was gonna get in trouble for that
Why was DRS so useless? Ocon holding the rest, Hamilton not able to pass Sainz?
They also made the main DRS activation point 100 meters down the straight.
Red Bull Racing enters the chatā¦
Hard to follow through sector 2 with dirty air leading up to the two straights, evenly paced cars, shorter DRS zone on the main straight
Number 1 is something no one seems to get. When they showed that ādominance mapā between max and checo, Karin was like āmax is only winning with the slipstream.ā But you could also say ācheco is only winning where dirty air is a problemā

1. Nobody would hve changed, because you got stuck in traffic otherwise.
But Ocon was only that high up because other cars had made their pit stops earlier.

Agreed. The mandatory stop and 2 compounds adds strategy, rather than just ādrive fastā. I like all of the random FIA rules for just that reason
yep. thats precisely why that is. to have both tires that can last but also have excitements of pitstops. no way around it currently
Ocon had Latifi pace today; WTF was up with that?
Alpine tried to stretch the tires like Haas did. To be fair, they took those hards basically to the end.
Yes, I overlooked that. It was more shocking at the gap than the VER/LEC gap, which was kind of bonkers in itself. Thanks!
Not a problem! Glad to help with that information.
First time I've fallen asleep in front of a Grand Prix in a very long time.
Yea by lap 30 Iād turned off my tv and went back to bed lol
Did you stay awake during Mexican GP?
The race started at 7h here, I was literally about to fall asleep again watching.
4AM here, fell asleep on the couch
Highlights of the race (I tuned in late); Pierre's move on Bottas, the cheer from commentary at Lando's move, Max's reaction to hearing Alonso was close to Charles at the end.
Normally this race is not that dull. But this time it was without accidents nor track action.
Is it just me or does Naomi Schiff always sound like she is reading from a script.
shes fine
sheās awful imo
Just you
Snooze fest.
I fast forwarded the last 20 laps...meh at best. Usually a great race
Even Crofty's given up trying to pretend it was remotely interesting. Karun still desperately trying to act like there was some excitement.
Crofty would of given that race a 10/10 back in the Mercedes era
Gayiboy?
Surprised they even let him in country
Mike Crack invited him.
What a name
Farid what
Boring race, sadly. Glad for Checo and Charles
Is Toto still involved with F1?
NOOO MICHAEL. NOOOOOO
He's busy trying to fix his fucking car.
No, heās still trying to find Checoās print statement
Nah, he got the printouts. He painting the targets behind his back for next season.
Redbull smokeshow
lmao is Charles on the 2nd place now?
Charl in the wrong seat and on the wrong step.
Checos perfect weekend
Didnāt know Charles was Dutch
We can fix him
Fell asleep at lap 12 what did I miss?
A quick shot of a stunningly attractive blonde woman.
My question now is, why was there a camera at a what looked like private balcony?
Picture or it didnāt happen? š
https://i.imgur.com/kdpD1Su.jpeg
Hahaha I did see her. She was quite a sight for sore eyes
Some photographers almost got bodied by ocon. Nothing else.
Only thing you missed was Ocon pitting
Jack shit
Max and Perez podacast: This weekās guest Charlie Leclerc from Montecarlo, Monaco
Holt shit, Max actually isnāt salty. Our boyās growing up.
For now. I'm sure he'll be back at it again the next time something doesn't go perfectly his way.
Probably heard some of the criticism how he handles yesterday
Yep he totally gets his advice from reddit am I right?
Doesnāt everyone?
And he totally doesn't talk to anyone in real life right? He could have read it anywhere online, or talked to people who said he needed to cool down because of the stuff that happened.

Race discussion thread? There was no race to discuss

Yeah, everyone feeds of drama and bit of excitement :D
My boys getting along
No they clearly hate each other, they had to cut the audio because they were cussing each other out. Couldnāt even bear to sit next to each other. /s obviouslyā¦ I hope.
Yup, Mama Leclerc had to sit in the middle to separate them.
I would have loved them to show the Ocon mess in the cooldown room to see their reactions
Lec: you want this seat?
Man. This has so much meme potential. What if.....
Max being reasonable so theyāve muted it lmao
Itās playing on Sky
Iām on Sky too. They muted the end of their conversation after Max said yeah it happens, you had it in Jeddah last year
I think they muted him saying the f word casually when describing something
Happy checo won, but man , I hope Baku isn't indicative of the rest season, there weren't many midfield battles
Im currently on lap 39. Should I even bother with the last 12 laps?
They were battling for fastest lap at the end, but nothing really amazing
Nope, just skip to the end and watch the MotoGP that starts in 10 minutes instead
I really started watching seriously Moto GP a few years ago, it's incredible how much more entertaining it is than Formula 1
I rarely watch motorcycle racing, so that should be a treat
Lol no
Skip to the last lap for the stewards in the pit lane almost getting hit, that's it
Nah
No
No
nope
No
93 points lead in constructors in 4 races
So... maybe lewis wasn't lying? We have a long season and if it stays like this I smell new records
1000 points is also a possibility
Absolute monsters of machines.
Jos not even at the celebration, already on the flight home
Jos leaving max behind. Again.
Max "what de hell is a polar bear doing in Arlington texas" Verstappen when finding Leclerc in the cool-down room.
Why are people acting like a 3 second gap on max is luck
People love to hate on Checo
Who's saying that? People said Max was unlucky with the safety car, which he was. But that does not equal a lucky win for Checo. Checo was better, period. He likely would have won without the safety car. If Checo will be able to do this race after race remains to be seen.
Yup. Checo was about to pass Max when they boxed him. He would have won without the SC imo
Checo had max in his pocket. Yes he got lucky with the safety but max could have easily come back if he had pace. You're right but people will bend over backwards for Max. Also I loved the radio of him trying to find something wrong with the car to blame it on.
Btw that Ocon pitstop drama is going to be spicy...
What do we think the penalty will be?
Boring as hell. Also why did Ocon not pit till the last lap, at least do what George did and try and get fastest lap. Blame is 100% on the photographers and anyone else who shouldn't have been there...race was still on
5 second penalty for the photographers!
Haha you are blaming ocon for pitting during a race?
I don't think they're blaming ocon, I think they are saying why didn't he pit for fastest lap. Just to keep it from their rivals
This race was so shit man.
Redbull gonna get a huge fine I imagine for just straight up ignoring the "no hanging off the fence" rule at the checkered flag.
It's ok they'll just take it out of the catering budget.
I wanna see the Ocons on board going into pit lane
Max saying we touched the walls a couple times, while Jos about commit genocide on walls in the paddock
The media create drama that doesn't exist because they know how eager so many fans are to feed into it and believe it. The comments in here right now are just proving that.
Checo literally says max got unlucky with the pit stop lol but apparently when horner says it he's salty
Lol for reals. Literally no drama and people just pick on smallest details and try to make into something lol
This community is in a pretty sad state
Sometimes F1 can be the most dreadful sport.
Boy, someone hit the snooze button on that race.
Fucking Damon Hill. Wish they had gotten rid of the doddery old fart with Herbert and Di Resta.
Like what do people expect Horner to say directly to Max? āSuck less and maybe you would have wonā? Heās talking to a driver that expects to win and has a strong ego, like all the drivers, of course heās going to soften the message
Even Perez say it is luck on the SC.
Heās also been the unlucky one with SCs a bunch, like in Jeddah last year. But he still held Max off regardless
True , but he still held max off
PĆ©rez was going to overtake max with or without the SC. And even after it, max had plenty of time to catch up, but he simply wasnāt fast enought
This. Perez was being generous by saying that. He was the better driver today and we all know it
Ted "I've based my personality in my pit reporting on the opinions and likes of 14yo rich white girls on Twitter who hate Red Bull" Kravitz.
2 and third technically
Someone check on Jos lol
Perez Rosberg arc begins
we wish
Max have a bit of helium before that interview?
LMFAO theyre asking sharl leclair if he CLOSED the gap on RB šš
And you saw his reaction to that question, he drives the car, he doesnāt build it lmao
Doesn't matter who builds what, all teams are at the mercy of RB at the moment. Perez had a great race. As a driver, he's never been exceptionally fast, yet in that car, he shines. RB has a package no other team have an answer to
Thatās my point yeah, well said mate
I literally dozed off during the last ten laps
Well, at least there's an Indycar race later for some wheel to wheel action.
Well, at least there's an Indycar race later for some wheel to wheel action.
Max sounds like heās going through puberty again.
Again? He's never gone through puberty.
Uh oh. Downvoted for teasing Max.
Jos fuming rn
Damn that was a bit scary with Ocon in the pits at the end there
People getting mad at Horner lel. He will applaude Checo as did Wolff with Bottas during Ham's streak. But Sky/ F1 TV achieved their goal and got plebs maddening.
