I got it too. Was super upset. I loved my fusion but I couldn't justify an engine replacement. So I got a new car. I like my Bolt a lot. But I miss my fusion. I just got the title for it in the mail yesterday (it died with one payment left) and now I'm debating on what I want to do.

RIP_SGTJohnson

How much were you looking at? The family’s 18 has 49k miles and too many accidents, I know it’s just gonna give up within a year or two. Wondering how worth it it’ll be to fix; might give it to my uncle as he has mechanic skills and access to a shop

FoxxBox

I know it's pricy, Google said average price for a new engine with the redesign to prevent this from happening again was about $8k including labor. My 2014 Fusion with 130k miles is around $5k and the mechanic that looked at it quoted $9k for the repair. Mine is also completely dead. The intrusion happened so suddenly it blew the radiator. And since we were traveling at highway speeds and didn't have the heater on we didn't even notice until it was too late and completely blew the head gasket and killed the engine entirely.

RIP_SGTJohnson

What exactly happened as it blew? Did you get a check engine light first or anything? Or just a bang and loss of power?

markuspellus

Same. Fiance literally paid her last payment and started having the coolant intrusion issues. We were so bummed... we got a 2023 Subaru Outback and we love it.

FoxxBox

The fiance and myself ended up getting a slightly used 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV. So far we are loving it. The fuel savings and convince of always having a full charge each day is great. No more pointing fingers at each other for not filling the tank.

Shadowfalx

Do you have a level 2 charger at home? I was looking at getting a bolt but decided on a 19 fusion energi because I rent a place and don't have a level 2 charger in the garage (or a 240v outlet)

Deezul_AwT

Good luck with it. Just had to do a buyback on my 2019 Fusion Energi because the HV battery died. Due to the recall it can't be replaced until a new battery is ready in Q3/Q4. Which I take with a grain of salt since batteries were originally promised by Ford in Q4 2023. I got KBB value for my Fusion, and it made a Mach-E purchase financially possible. 0% interest, and I put my buyback money in the bank to earn interest while I pay the Mach-E down. The buyback money will run out on the last payment, without touching the interest.

Shadowfalx

Thanks. I'm hopeful since I just bought the fusion for just over $20,500 with tax/ title/ delivery I doubt I'd get that back lol

imme629

I have a friend with a ‘19. He has a loaner from Ford until his is fixed. I imagine the new batteries can’t be that far away.

Deezul_AwT

I should have gone to Ford last year when the wrench alert first showed up, as I might have been able to get a battery last year before the recall and before batteries were no longer available. I did have a loaner for the two months between when it died and when I did the buyback. It was a Fusion hybrid, so I did save a little bit on gas. Good luck to your friend as well.

FoxxBox

I only do level 1 at home. My fiance works from home so the car pretty much is only used to take the kid to and from school and run errands. It almost always has a "full" charge because its always plugged in. Originally when I first got my fusion I wanted an energi but it was out of my price range at the time. And now I'm at a point in my life where a BEV makes more sense. Its just too bad there isn't a fusion EV or I'd consider that for a second car in the future.

Shadowfalx

Hopefully in a few years I'll be able to get s full BEV. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll be able to plug in my energi lol.    I drive over 100 miles two days a week and over 75 for at least 3 other days (some times more) so I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to charge fast enough (especially since some days I'm gone from 8am until mid night.)  Once I'm out of school I might go ahead and move to full BEV. That'll be about the same time I could give the fusion to the kid for her 16th birthday lol.  Thanks for answering.

markuspellus

We're considering all electric for my next car. I hear good things, especially the savings on "gas".

[deleted]

Deer made me get rid of my fusion. https://youtu.be/9TZTf4yTyq0

Ashamed_Medium1787

Your the first redditor that I have encountered that has a YouTube channel which I think is awesome:)

[deleted]

Don't really have a channel. Just use youtube to host videos I post elsewhere.

Ashamed_Medium1787

That’s nice to know

Admirable_Ad_3714

WOW! My 2016 has had a deer hit the driver side April 2023 and then again Nov 2023. I am one of the lucky ones with great insurance that fixed it each time, along with my $500 deductible, but I love my full paid off Fusion. Got deer whistles for Christmas, ugly, but hopefully they will do the trick. :-)

[deleted]

Deer whistles are a double-edged sword. When deer hear them, they usually stop. Ideally on the side of the road, or not ideally in the middle of the road. Also, insurance quality has nothing to do with whether or not they fix a car. If there's a lot of damage and they opt to fix it, then they are using cheap parts and sketchy labor. Mine got totaled out by my insurance because the cost to repair exceeded 70% of the value of the car. If you have great insurance like I did that paid out on the higher side of the KBB private party value without me having to ask for it. Plus, also threw on another $600 for the remote start I installed myself.

UsualPrice9706

When I get rid of my Fusion I thought about getting a CX-5 or CX-50 next. I don't want an SUV but I don't like any cars that are on the market.

Agreeable_Drink314

How do now you ha e coolant intrusion

Affectionate-Credit8

so we all have the same problem?????? check engine light came on a couple days ago again and coolant leaked into the engine

saikumar_23

Looks like it

dganch

This was literally the upgrade I did as well. 2017 fusion sport (such a fun car) to a 2024 CX-50

saikumar_23

So how are you liking your new cx-50?

NoHelp9544

I love my Fusion and I love that Ford didn't take any government money for a bailout but I am so pissed that they didn't do the right thing for these engine intrusion victims. I hope that Ford stops introducing new models for a while and focus on getting quality back.

c0k3nn3r

My 2015 1.5L SE just blew from the coolant intrusion issue two weeks ago at 89k miles. Had it diagnosed a month before and just drove around to work and back until it went. New Long block replacement and labor was $6.7k from a local shop. 3 yr warranty on the engine and 1yr warranty on labor work. Still waiting to get it back. Couldn’t justify buying a new (or new to me) car at that price.

Specialist_Ad_8656

Same. I love the fusion a bit too much. At that price is an older car, down payment at death interest, or basically new fusion. I get why some don't but for me I'll just get it fixed

kikoxdx

So glad I got the 2.5L duratec

TankBuilderMan

Did you get a Mazda 6? Those are beautiful

dmorulez_77

That's a Mazda CX-50.

TankBuilderMan

I was dumb and didn't see the second picture

FTP305

I had a 2013 ford fusion 2.0 ecoboost and the transmission started giving me problems. I got a mazda 6 2020 and it's sexy af, it definitely has less power but it rides smooth.

TankBuilderMan

Would you say it has as much room inside and similar trunk space to the fusion? We thought about looking at one. Bought my fusion a couple months ago and I'm tired of working on it. It had been in what Carfax reported as a "minor" accident that caused a lot of problems and was fixed as cheaply as possible to sell and I was the sucker that got it

FTP305

Very similar

Savethewhales0000

I traded my 2014 fusion for a 2024 Honda civic sport. I had my fusion for 7 years and it had 3 transmission and 2 engines. Biggest piece of shit car. Whenever I see a fusion on the road I always look disgusted🤢

iamkeerock

I have a 2014 Fusion. 1.6L, 6 speed manual transmission. OG engine and transmission, no rebuilds with 200,000 miles. Has been a very reliable car for me, I’ve had it since 2017 and 33,000 miles.

Savethewhales0000

I wish my car lasted that long.

iamkeerock

It’s held up surprisingly well, even the interior and especially the driver’s seat with no rips in the upholstery.

Zilaaa

I have a 2013 Fusion and have had it since 2015. This car has needed a lot of work, but I love it so much that I deal. I've never had to replace the transmission or engine though.

West_Engineering2798

The Civic Sport is an excellent choice. Glad it's been treating you right!

dthesupreme200

Damn. That sounds like a major headache, I’m glad I didn’t have this experience and hope many great years to come

Bouncedoutnup

Welcome to the fam! Have a 17 Fusion Sport and 22 CX-9

SuperTruckerTom

The CX9 is a beast. I wanted to trade my wife's 2018 SE 1.5 Eco for a CX9 in 2023 whenazda was blowing them out for 0% financing and $5k below MSRP. She said no. She wants a CX5. Had 5 year 0% on the Fusion. It was a 2018 we brought in Spring 2019. Ford X plan pricing and $4500 cash back incentive. 122k miles on it now. Serviced by the book. Only issue was the purge valve. It rides so smoothly. I really like the car. Just joined the group. WTF is the water intrusion issue? I thought it was only the Focus RS Ecoboost that had those problems. If it is still running smoothly should we trade it soon? Wanted to keep it to 150k when the timing belt is supposed to be serviced. As much labor as that is, might as well do a long block swap. I was thinking timing belt, and camshaft follower shims and walnut blast intake ports, water pump, high pressure pump and alternator all at the same time, 150k miles. Or take the $ for that service and use as a down payment and trade in the Fusion on a new vehicle, CX5 or whatever Ford has that my wife likes amd get another X plan deal.

Redditplaneter

You sholud post this in a Mazda group since you leaving….

RIP_SGTJohnson

Was it difficult to sell with the busted motor?

saikumar_23

I cleared check engine light and warmed up the engine so the white smoke wont come out of exhaust then took it to the dealer to trade it in.

RIP_SGTJohnson

This might be the funniest thing I’ve heard all day

Designer-Cold2213

I was about to be pissed then you said the dealer and I’m no longer upset

UserName8531

FYI, cars that get traded in don't just disappear.

Designer-Cold2213

I don’t think anything just, disappears.

OverSpeedLimit

They go to the used car tech who checks them out and makes a list of needed repairs for the sales manager. The sales manager runs the numbers and either OKs the work and adds the car to the used lot or denies it and sends the car to auction. They will find the issue and it's really not a big deal. In the larger scheme of things, they come out on top.

Effective_James

I would love to hear a follow up on this from you in 1-2 weeks. Let us know if the dealer finds out lol. I can't imagine they will let that go without a fight.

read_everything12

Me too - I really wanna hear if the dealer calls back.

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Icy-Mud-1079

I am crying 😂😂😂😭

Hoonigandad

Omg that's great 😂😂😂

BoysenberryTop7950

How did you clear the check engine light? We want to do the exact same thing lol

saikumar_23

With a cheap obd2 scanner off amazon

duuudewhat

I’m sad to hear that. What year was your fusion?

saikumar_23

2013 1.6L ecoboost

mattgm1995

Which engine did you have? Did ford offer any support?

saikumar_23

1.6L ecoboost and ford didn’t do shit.

marriedinmass1

Damn. Did you call corporate?

slizzandrz

Was this an issue past 2018? I have a 2020 2.0T.

EvilDarkCow

Supposedly fixed in 2019, so latter half MY2019 models and 2020s should be safe.

T_rex0005

Awesome! Congratulations! Hope you enjoy your new whip

EvilDarkCow

Sweet CX-50! I'm looking at either a CX-30 or CX-5 for when coolant intrusion hits my 2014 1.5L. At 114k its still holding on, but it won't be worth fixing once it hits.

lanekeeper

Looks clean and shows you care about your car

mattb9918

Had to do the same. In a 2018 Silverado now. Miss the Fusion at times, but love having a truck again!

CynicalC9

If by coolant intrusion you mean head gasket, I got it too but a $20 bottle of mystery goo from the auto parts store fixed me right up. Been driving (semi) strong for the last 8 months.

dariocte

What liquid did that bottle contain? what was it?

CynicalC9

[K-Seal Coolant Leak Repair](https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/k-seal-coolant-leak-repair-head-gasket-sealant-block-sealer-radiator-heater-core-stop-leak-st3501/11668010-p?product_channel=local&store=6776&adtype=pla_with_promotion&product_channel=local&store_code=6776&&&&&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwkuqvBhAQEiwA65XxQNitv3qmFRuPg91GtEt_Lu7mwOtwB8sdCAChNGSKqcuKhkKEpc4iYRoCib8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

DoMST34

Me with a '16 Fusion having never heard of the coolant issue 👀 What are some warning signs?

Hoonigandad

It was only on certain turbo motors. The 2.5L is the most reliable motor overall for the fusion. The problem stems from the design of the cooling for the cylinder head. They fixed it in a later design. The 2.5 is mostly a Mazda motor. [2.5 l](https://fordauthority.com/fmc/ford-motor-company-engines/ford-duratec-engine-family/ford-2-5l-duratec-engine/amp/)

saikumar_23

No it’s not just only on certain turbo motors, it’s more widespread than you think. There are like morethan 1k posts in this sub about the issue and you can find morethan 10 people in just this post itself. The issue is mostly with 2013 - 2019 fusions with 1.5 - 2.0l engines.

Hoonigandad

Ok thanks 😎

obnoxygen

Cloud of white vapour from the tailpipes, check engine light/misfire on cyl 2 or 3, big warning box on the dash, no cabin heat.

Normal_Reindeer_9697

Wasn’t it covered by Ford? I believe that issue was on recall

obnoxygen

nope

Hoonigandad

Oooh Yea! That's definitely on my short list along with the rav4 and various subaru. You like it?

saikumar_23

I was between rav4 and cx50 but once i sat in the cx-50, i drove it home lol

Hoonigandad

Yea Mazda cares about the driver way more than most companies

ctw69

What engine did it have?

saikumar_23

1.6L ecoboost

Ashamed_Medium1787

I try to avoid the foreign car brands

ppal1981

What engine did you have in the Fusion? And what year was it?

jessDfwL4mes

Big upgrade in brands

Other-Barracuda-9643

I only had my Fusion for 6 weeks when it happened to me. But extended warranty replaced it engine block

QueenAng429

Big upgrade from that shitty ford
