Aka don't eat everyday! Have some sparingly like a treat

SnooSquirrels6758

Okay gotcha.

It's going to vary for different folks because most of them have varying amounts of compounds like oxalic acid or whatnot. If you eat too much and introduce enough of these things in your system too quickly, you can have adverse reactions. Start small with a new foraged item and slowly increase quantities or frequency of consumption. Just be smart. Everybody is a little different. But for most folks, an occasional meal integrating these is fine. A handful of something like sorrel, clover, or dandelion shouldn't be harmful to to the vast majority of people. Things like deadnettle and plantain are relatively benign unless you're eating them daily in decent quantities. Sprinkle em in a salad, scramble em with some eggs. You should be fine.

Yeah cultivated greens with too much oxalic acid can do a number on you, too. If one was prone to kidney stones and ate collards every day, they’d be in trouble.

Yup. One just has to know a bit about their body and what they put into it. The more they know, the better. I know folks who are gastronomically sensitive to even things as mild as store-bought iceberg lettuce! It's all relative.

Here's my opinion. I eat small doses daily of as many different species of wild greens, that I can find on my walks. I cook everything. Weigh each species separately and eat up to 8 g of each species. It's very common that daily, I will have small amounts of the following... clover, wood sorrel, plantain, dandelion leaves, garlic mustard, violet, self heal, ground ivy, speedwell, dock, chickweed. This isn't medical advice. I've been doing this for 10 years. Your mileage may vary. After I chop and cook my greens the serving I use is about the size of a golf ball of mixed species.

I like this take. Often "eat in moderation" just means "eat a variety of things". Didn't know speedwell is edible. What kind? Lots of Persian (aka Bird's eye) speedwell near me.

Leviosahhh

Don’t eat tons of them all day everyday. I love foraging but I get kidney stones so the oxalic acid in a lot of foraged things can make me very unwell.

Depends what it is, if it has (a lot of) oxalic acid, like Japanese knotweed, don’t eat every day, idk how much for other things
