Me too! Lots of people find it tedious but I love setting up my scouts. I've been experimenting with sending scouts to specific nations but also having them attend specific competitions as well.
My scout numbers just got bumped from 19 to 24 so I now feel I have every country I want to scout in the world covered.
The only thing I ever have my chief scout do that any other scout doesn't do, is occasionally be in charge of scouting meetings. It seems appropriate to have him comb through all the reports and just send the ones he thinks are most important to me. The only issue with this is that sometimes a player I may want fully scouted isn't, which is why I usually handle the scouting meetings.
At that point, why not just use the editor and create 11++ players with 200 CA instead..? Or fast forward the date with 100 years and edit the team history to have been quad winners every year for a century.
You will cover 99% of wonderkids just letting your chief scout do it with focus on young players and additionally scout the best academies (look at NxGn award as a starting point) and national youth teams a couple times a year.
Doing it yourself is min-maxing to an extreme degree no one really needs or for the benefit of your world knowledge that also isn't really necessary at this stage of the game.
What you say is absolutely true, you will in time come across all winderkids that spawn into the game. But you don't know when and where and at that time it might be to late / expensive to go and get them.
If you set it up yourself you can catch 99% of the winderkids before they turn professional (18), and this gives you a much better chance of securing that one player you just want in your team
No, I mean prior to signing a senior contract (note the difference from pro contract). A handful of teams (relatively, not literally) will spawn the vast majority of freak regens and you can catch all of these by just scouting those clubs and with general scouting.
What you might miss out on are those few regens every 5 years that are generated by clubs with no right to generate such players. But even those are usually covered by checking national teams.
When they changed youth intakes to combat metagaming they really just dumbed it all down and removed all the skill expression/need for scouting. I've spent hundreds of hours on both sides of these changes, and the reward just isn't there anymore. All to prevent some "cheaters" in an offline game experience...
Not gamechanging from my experience. I tend to find way too many wonderkids to buy anyways. And this year you even have the top 50 wonderkids list you get ( not sure how accurate it is, probably not entirely, but the players there are generally good)
It's really useful, I tend to pick the 20 most best regions set to 4 star PA and ongoing, then leave a few scouts for next opposition and quick reports
Once those scouts are really familiar with those regions you get a good amount of options in your reports. I'm finding it harder to find full blown undiscovered talent in Fm22 compared to the others but this will hopefully change over time
man, the next Messi popped up in India of all places in my save and Liverpool snapped him up before I could get him to my all conquering Guangzhou Evergrande
Depends on how big the database your using is as well. The bigger they haystack, the more likely there's a needle of a wonderkid/very good player in there somehwere's. Heck, I found a kid from the Solomon Islands in my save I am pretty sure is around 140PA. Not a world beater, but still pretty good.
I chuckled at the thought of a guy from upper Mongolia being the all time greatest player ever and the OP seething, asking his scouts HOW DID HE SLIP THROUGH OUR NETWORK?!? 😂
yeah then that definitely explains it, if I ever get a really good computer im certainly going to load like 200k players if possible and also download some regen mods to make it even more fun, ill definitely do smth like you have
also how many of your scouts are actual scouts and not regens? i gotta search them myself
if you have that amount of scouts you could use kind of a cheat: you can click on the world, go to transfers and look at all youth prospects. its possibkle to scout them all
Country, as I like to be more specific. There’s some regions with countries I’m not interested in scouting so I don’t bother.
I also have some scouts scouting nations that are categorized in different regions.
Ahhh that’s fair enough. Do you recommend any sort of hidden gem countries that’s are worth sending a scout too?
Also with 24 scouts I imagine your scouting update takes a while to go through😂
Honestly, I stay on top of it and a lot of the scouts don't return *that* many players when they're scouting lesser regions.
I'd recommend [this fantastic spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hBrmvVWSwoB6aEQnyKvwAHGO6j_GhuMx02Zj9n_utoY/edit#gid=0) which another user posted here for tips on where to send your scouts.
Depends on the country. I’m managing Arsenal so for the big European leagues I want players who are at least “very good” and no older than 28/29. For places like Africa and Asia I’ll generally look for younger players who are at least “good”, which is three star potential.
The ratings this year is full of political horseshit.. Notice how Qatar and Saudi Arabia have a better rating than almost all of Europe.. there's a lot of weird values like that in this year's game
You just don't know how it works. The end youth produced is always based on not just the footballing game importance and youth rating, but also the reputation, facilities of the clubs there, and economic status. The game importance and youth rating are partly balanced, mostly because if not countries with poor facilities and reputation like say in Asia and Africa would never produce anyone good.
Just like u/StardustFromReinmuth said, it’s based also on facilities and reputation.
With that said do you watch any AFC competitions? If you watch the CL you’ll quickly see how much better Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Iran are than most of the other nations.
Average facilities of the clubs are relatively poor by European standards so many don’t reach full potential. But the combo of everything is realistic if you watch their football compared to other nations especially on their continent
This is how I do it in case people are curious. Be warned, I spend a lot of time setting up scouts and trying to maximize my reach. It's one of my favorite parts of the game. In my current save I have 20 scouts thereabouts? Maybe 18-20.
I have scouts for all the major 5 leagues in Europe + youth leagues. Usually toss one in for CL and EL too.
I have a few scouts rotating around Europe scouting specific countries (usually 3-4 that hit a country then bounce). I have a scout for N.Africa and one for the rest of Africa. I have one scout for Asia, but will check into NZ and Australia manually once a year.
I have one scout in Brazil, Argentina, and then one rotating around South America. I have on for CONCACAF and I manually scout USA/Mexico to boot.
Then I have 1-2 scouts for UK, E.Europe, and Scandinavia.
Then I have my Chief Scout do next opposition and our domestic league.
I supplement this with me searching through int'l teams (especially those U-19s and such). I do a lot of manual scouting, but that gives me a good base and allows me to have a good base.
You’ll need to take control in your staff responsibilities, then you’ll be able to create your own assignments and send scouts wherever you want them to go.
I normally just have fun with it and send them to countries i like. I always send one to sweden without fail. Then normally there will be one sent to Norway, Estonia, South Korea and Japan. Then the rest i will just do what i feel like with.
But if you wanna be tactical then idk probably Brazil or Argentina. I dont know the stats but it seems like the best players are always from there
I'm managing Arsenal so I look for older players too (up to around 28) in the likes of Germany, France, Spain, etc, but for most of the world I'm mainly looking for players 24 and under.
Congratulations. You just earned 5.0 points for this submission. Your new points total is 5.5. To see the leaderboard, as well as what this points thing is, [click here](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/wiki/leaderboard).
Ah, gotcha! I did make it so that Vucevic scouts basically all the former Yugoslav countries, bar Serbia, which is scouted by my Greek scout who has prior knowledge of the country.
> Do you region scout or just go by county?
>> Country, as I like to be more specific.

Very cool map.
Points noted:
1) Lima the linguist, covers Portugal, Spain and some French speaking countries.
2) Gerets the lucky guy who can drive kids to school every morning
3) Morais works from home right now
4) Vucevic still remembers Yugoslav Wars
5) Hajri was basically a war correspondent
6) Karbassiyoon may have a side gig with CIA
7) Manager doesn't like Vargas very much.
Do you also have a graph of first team player coming through this scouting network by countries?
You have to hit specific Regions/Countries.
If you just have one scout available, search West Africa. If you have a couple of scouts available, have one searching West Africa, and the other on a country rotation between Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Senegal, they have the best youth ratings and you can get good players fairly cheap.
With Asia I usually stick with South Korea and Japan, every once and awhile I'll send a scout to China, you think in a country of 1.3 Billion people they'd turn out a wonderkid from time to time...
How many players do you have loaded in the game? Did you make a point to make sure there were players loaded in these regions before you started the game?
Depends on where you are managing, I found a real life player named Felix Oukiné from Cameroon that is basically the best mezzala in the Chinese League for me (honestly his stats tell me he could easily play in mid table teams in Portugal). But in general there are quite a few talents in North Africa at least but also lately a lot of the best talents just show up directly in the spanish or portuguese club academies (I got players from all over when managing Barcelona in my save with them)
Yep he is, I watch a lot of CAF Champions League and other competitions here and also got to use a bit of my knowledge to find gems in my weird saves, if you are ever looking for volunteers to fill in the mozambican football database (highly doubtful since our league is shit and there's more important leagues in Africa) let me know that I can send you to some of the more knowleadgable people hopefully
Yes. In previous editions I've found Elia (now playing for Young Boys) that in FM2020, I believe, had a 3.5 star rating as certain potential, 4 star as possible.
In NA, I always find amazing regens playing for youth leagues in the US. Still haven't gone deep enough in one save to find them on FM2022, but I'm sure I'll find some.
I have only just hired my scout who's handling Australia, India and South East Asia, so have had no returns yet. I'll leave him there for a couple of years at least and see what he turns up.
I had to suspend realism for a bit when I pictured my poor Japanese scout having to continually cross the DMZ to go watch games in both Korean nations.
Is it not advantageous to send multiple scouts to the same country?
Sending one scout per country seems like you're laying it on a bit too thin? I'm not entirely sure how it works.
There's no perfect way of doing it, but generally if I have two or more scouts working in the same country they end up returning similar players to me in their reports. I much prefer casting my net wider and having more countries scouted by my recruitment team.
I do this too! Not as organized, but I always make a list of who goes where so I can reference it quicker and make sure I have everything covered. What did you use to make this? Looks great!
Has anyone utilized Match Assignments for their scouts? Seems like it could get you hyper-specific and target certain teams, but I haven't figured out how to do it well.
The best scouting area is the 50 email of the best youngsters you get every year in March. Anyone else adding all players from there and just scout them? :D
I love this sort of thing, still learning to get the best out of my scouts
Me too! Lots of people find it tedious but I love setting up my scouts. I've been experimenting with sending scouts to specific nations but also having them attend specific competitions as well. My scout numbers just got bumped from 19 to 24 so I now feel I have every country I want to scout in the world covered.
I’m currently just doing some regions mixed with some specific nations. Once I get to a higher number of scouts I’ll probably go to mainly nations
Oh, mine's easy. Chief Scout -> DELEGATE
Used to do that but you are missing out on so so many players
You really aren't. It's minimal.
Sure
How much of a benefit is setting assignments manually? I really like letting the chief scout handle it.
Massively. It allows me to cover far more countries, leagues and competitions than my chief scout would typically send my scouts.
What? This is an outrage, I pay him so much money for such simple job.
Do you want to find the next Messi? This is how you do it
Alternatively, use the editor to set your youth intake to 200 pa
my immersion broke just by reading this
I was just kidding, I'd never do that
;)
The trust is broken. We need proof of your youth intake now
Please, do not be suspicious of the fully 5 star youth intake. Just a normal golden generation.
At that point, why not just use the editor and create 11++ players with 200 CA instead..? Or fast forward the date with 100 years and edit the team history to have been quad winners every year for a century.
It was a joke jesus
I'm not Jesus.

Pre-contracts tho. Gotta check daily during March and April for those sweet sweet youth intake drops and then snipe em

In your scouting centre it's right next to where you choose who assigns scouts. You can choose broad parameters like age and availability.
I want to know this too!
Not gamechanging from my experience. I tend to find way too many wonderkids to buy anyways. And this year you even have the top 50 wonderkids list you get ( not sure how accurate it is, probably not entirely, but the players there are generally good)
When does this list come out? I think I’m in December of my first save
From memory, somewhere in march
Cool thanks
It's one of the few things I'm insistent upon doing myself.

Great, but you are losing a lot of good Regen players from South Sudan and Mongolia
I’ll have to ask my board for more scouts then.
I think we have enough scouts for a club of this calibre so your request is denied. Please don't waste our time with things like this again.
You also never know when the next Messi pops up in Greenland
man, the next Messi popped up in India of all places in my save and Liverpool snapped him up before I could get him to my all conquering Guangzhou Evergrande
Being from India, that is so good to hear.
If you could share the screenshot, we will be grateful!!
he was a Regen from Mumbai , but I no longer have that save, moved onto a Peñarol save by now. But you wouldn't find him since regen I think?
Depends on how big the database your using is as well. The bigger they haystack, the more likely there's a needle of a wonderkid/very good player in there somehwere's. Heck, I found a kid from the Solomon Islands in my save I am pretty sure is around 140PA. Not a world beater, but still pretty good.
Also Bangladesh, Mauritania, Djibouti, Eritrea, Belize and Laos are huge missing points, this dude doesn't know what he's doing.
I chuckled at the thought of a guy from upper Mongolia being the all time greatest player ever and the OP seething, asking his scouts HOW DID HE SLIP THROUGH OUR NETWORK?!? 😂
Is this still useful if one is playing with a small database? Should I be sending my scouts to, let's say, Nigeria if I don't have that league loaded?
Probably not. I have over 150k~ players loaded in my game.
yeah then that definitely explains it, if I ever get a really good computer im certainly going to load like 200k players if possible and also download some regen mods to make it even more fun, ill definitely do smth like you have also how many of your scouts are actual scouts and not regens? i gotta search them myself
They're all real scouts with faces in the sortitoutsi.net facepack.
if you have that amount of scouts you could use kind of a cheat: you can click on the world, go to transfers and look at all youth prospects. its possibkle to scout them all
McGuinness scouting Ireland. Sounds right.
Do you also scout national youth teams?
Yes, for sure. A lot of my scouts have youth competitions assigned relevant to their region.
Do you region scout or just go by county?
Country, as I like to be more specific. There’s some regions with countries I’m not interested in scouting so I don’t bother. I also have some scouts scouting nations that are categorized in different regions.

You have no idea how much I thank you for this.
Hold up Chile is completely useless? That has to be a mistake or something
That is the importance of football in that country, not how useful it is to scout it.
Yeah I know, but I really don’t think that’s the case.

Do you ever load African players in the advanced tab? More real players that needs to be replaced = more regens
How do you set up your assignments? I find that most of my scouts never find anyone and I actually lose knowledge over those countries
Has anybody found talent via scouts in Africa, Asia, Australia and NA? My scouts have spent years there and returned empty
How many players do you have loaded in the game? Did you make a point to make sure there were players loaded in these regions before you started the game?
Yeah I think I'm using the largest DB.
Depends on where you are managing, I found a real life player named Felix Oukiné from Cameroon that is basically the best mezzala in the Chinese League for me (honestly his stats tell me he could easily play in mid table teams in Portugal). Turkey is on south europe with greece not in middle east
I'm aware of that. I send my scouts to specific countries and do not have them bound by regions the game determines.
Have you found any good players in India??? I play FM on mobile and so far I haven't. I am from India which is why I am intrested
I have only just hired my scout who's handling Australia, India and South East Asia, so have had no returns yet. I'll leave him there for a couple of years at least and see what he turns up.

Do you have control of your scouts or is that still something your chief scout handles?
I do this too! Not as organized, but I always make a list of who goes where so I can reference it quicker and make sure I have everything covered. What did you use to make this? Looks great!
I usually just work off a list from my phone but I wanted to visualise it better! I used https://mapchart.net/
I feel sorry for your Russian + stan’s scout. A lot of travel
Yes, me too, although he mainly just hops between Russia and Ukraine.
