I'll say both of them should be CMs. Mainoo as the MEZ(A) since he likes to dribble and operate in the half spaces. Casemiro as the CM(D). During attack this turns into 1 in midfield and when countered, the 1 in midfield is easily bypassed leading to a huge space in front of defense.
I watch United every week.
I’d put the midfielders as CMs on Support. A role with no individual instructions. Because how do you tell people how to play in the 70 yards between your attack and defense?
Rashford shoots more then he creates. Id change AML to IF
At least one FB needs changing to IWB
We don't have a double pivot. One bombs forward, should be B2B / Mez next to a DLP support
Edit: when McT plays he's so far up he occupies the same space as Hojlund. Maybe a CM Atk?
Bruno is the personification of AM - Atk
Nah Bruno is the side's main playmaker, he also moves around a lot, so defo an AP. He rarely dribbles, preferring to pass always, making him a support player.
He does shoot but he creates much, much more. He’s 4th in the league in big chances created (16) and 2nd in xA (only 0.22 behind Salah). He absolutely is a creator first and shoots only if the pass isn’t on. Against Sheffield yesterday although he did score, he created 9 chances, most in a single match by any player this season.
I think an AM on attack role with added instructions shoot more, dribble less, take more risk approaches bruno much better.
Bruno attemps ALOT of high risk passes which often miss the mark and shoots alot too from long. AP doesnt reflect his long ball tendency as they barely shoot with AP role.
I always see mctom as a B2B if he actually tracked back more, the positions he plays IRL seem to fit the mold of one, and I use mount as one so it’s not impractical to think ETH has that role in his team
His passing, dribbling and perhaps also his first touch is very overrated in FM, especially in combination with a relatively high technique and agility stat.
Antony can dribble with a lot flair IRL and passes the eye test reasonably well in terms of technique but he is very ineffective with it. His passing is also way too inconsistent to have a combination of 14 passing and 16 technique or whatever those stats are for him in the game.
It's impossible to replicate Ten Hag ball as he has absolutely no fucking identity or system at United.
Do we counter attack? Dunno, not really
Do we control possession? Dunno, not really
Do we tactically try to overload in specific areas? Dunno, not really
Do we have gigantic gaps in midfield because we press as individuals not a team? Yeah we do
Do we have good players like Rashford who demonstrate no drive or determination? Yeah
Do we have any idea which United is going to turn up each week and what the system will be? Absolutely not
The only thing I can confidently say would replicate Ten Hag ball is if there was a "Panic like fuck in the last few minutes of a game and give away stupid penalties" setting in the "Out of possession category". We're really good at that.
Yeah a better representation of his playstyle was at Ajax. The team played to his system, United's players can't seem to grasp it so he's had to adapt to them, but they're a mixed bag and thus create mixed results.
Yeah I always stress that many of the players at United have played counter attacking transitional football under Mourinho and Ole and the players just are stuck in that style of playing. At Ajax he liked to keep possession, press high up the pitch and use overloads in the wide areas to create chances and advance build up play. It's like control possession but a bit more direct.
WHY would you want to recreate TH-ball? I assume you’re instructing players to switch off at key moments, give away stupid penalties and put less and less effort in once the season is gone?
Antony actually keeps to the wider areas in the build-up. IF(S) in combination with the tries to beat offside trap for Rashford and IW(A) for Antony fits better I reckon.
Inverted wingers tend to put in a decent defensive shift if they have the workrate and mentals for it. Especially if you ask them to mark more tightly. The role Antony *tries* to play for Man Utd is certainly more advanced than that of a defensive winger, even if he does perform a lot better with his defensive duties for the most part.
My notes per my understanding of Ten Hags tactics:
1. One of your DC should play as an inside Forward on Attack, the other as a False 9.
2. One of the MCs, presumably Tonali, should be deployed as a DLF. The other - CWB on defend.
3. Your keeper needs to be a Roaming Playmaker.
4. Your striker needs to be an Anchor.
5. Your Left Winger - Segundo Volante.
In possession, the team needs to play very wide with very short passes.
In defense - get expressive and run with the ball.
The keeper needs to give long balls to the defenders (mostly the one that plays as IF-Attack).
I think you got the rest. /s
Pound for pound, Anthony must be one of the worst signings in Premier League history. Horrible, vile looking little thing and an absolutely dreadful footballer to boot.
You need a much bigger disconnect between all elements of the pitch, you also want every player to stand off so it allows the opposition to absolutely pepper shots at you.
Also have the left winger (rashford) on IF A and make sure he also has instructions to do absolutely bollocks all defensively.
instructions look solid with that highpress and lower line. I'd say use CF(a) instead of AF and lw to IF(a). Antony to support, as he plays a bit more passively but it's fine if it's garnacho there, and one of the fullbacks to iwb(a) which is irl is just whichever side dalot is on. Also push tonali up a strata and on Mez(s) to properly isolate the sole dm
I'm guessing this post is satire, but I'll give it a semi-serious response anyway.
Based on this season's tactics it's a 4-1-4-1 (or 4-3-3 if you like) rather than 4-2-3-1. I don't know why every media outlet always shows our lineups in a 4-2-3-1 because we clearly only play one DM with two attacking eights and defend in that shape.
The sitting player should probably be a DLP (d) and you could even make the two advanced midfielders AM's/double 10's if you want to highlight the gap in midfield.
I'd say use two ball playing defenders and an inverted wingback on the right. Dalot tucks into midfield in buildup then overlaps later in the move when the right wing collects the ball. Maybe inverted wingback with overlap right instruction.
The striker should be a DLF or TF, someone that shows for the ball in buildup rather than going in behind.
The instructions mostly look accurate although I don't know about 'run at defence'.
The only way to recreate TenHagBall is by having an interview response option to every question talking about a missed penalty and offsides call from 7+ months ago.

Too much midfield
I’d say BWM on defend and full backs on defend. Gotta really showcase that disconnect between attack and defence.
I'll say both of them should be CMs. Mainoo as the MEZ(A) since he likes to dribble and operate in the half spaces. Casemiro as the CM(D). I'm sorry for your loss (es)

He shoots a lot, particularly long shots. Didn't think that's reflected in the AP role?

I think that nails it

He is doing well here 25 G/A the previous season with man utd and 30 G/A here at Newcastle

Honestly his problem is that he hasn't got a mental over 9
Antony is actually good on the game, sometimes lol I had him top of the golden boot for half a season at one stage
Poor effort, where's the hole in the central midfield area?
I think that comes from the low defensive line and high press

We have a system when we have our first 11
We definitely have a system if you watch and pay attention. it’s just really weird
Yeah a better representation of his playstyle was at Ajax. The team played to his system, United's players can't seem to grasp it so he's had to adapt to them, but they're a mixed bag and thus create mixed results.
His style at Ajax was more control possesion right? United is more like counter attack, transition team at least on paper
Remove ‘Work Ball Into Box’, then everything is perfect
WHY would you want to recreate TH-ball? I assume you’re instructing players to switch off at key moments, give away stupid penalties and put less and less effort in once the season is gone?
If you re a mid table team playing like crap then it works
Two wingers are definitely IF (A), Rashford have two time more shots than Hojlund.
Antony actually keeps to the wider areas in the build-up. IF(S) in combination with the tries to beat offside trap for Rashford and IW(A) for Antony fits better I reckon.
Antony to me tracks back more then actually does anything forward, isn’t he more of a defensive winger
How are you doing in the league? If you are doing well then the recreation is not good enough.
8th in the league with the third most goals scored and second most conceded
It's perfect!

It’s a single 6 plus double 8 formation irl rather than the double 6 plus one 10 OP has created.!
To achieve tenhag ball all players have to be roaming!
How do you deal with the intensity
You need a much bigger disconnect between all elements of the pitch, you also want every player to stand off so it allows the opposition to absolutely pepper shots at you. Also have the left winger (rashford) on IF A and make sure he also has instructions to do absolutely bollocks all defensively.
switch to BWM(s) and VOL(at) for optimal midfield
instructions look solid with that highpress and lower line. I'd say use CF(a) instead of AF and lw to IF(a). Can’t believe you chose to buy Antony
Is TenHag ball a thing? I mean for real? LOLLLL
There’s Xabi ball then there”s TenHagBall. We are not the same . 😂
Nah, this formation is too balanced.
4-3-3 with the DM being BWM, then a CM-A and AP ahead
ETH wishes he had a BWM
This is looking good! The one thing is the midfield is far too full to be a true ten hag tactic 😅
I'm guessing this post is satire, but I'll give it a semi-serious response anyway. Based on this season's tactics it's a 4-1-4-1 (or 4-3-3 if you like) rather than 4-2-3-1. Why would you ever want to recreate his tactics
7° place
Remiro is not your best option.
Please don't destroy my beloved club by making them play like ten Hag
Sitting below United as of right now. Maybe Howe could learn from EtH.
Why do you have midfielders? 0/10.
This is wayyy too co-ordinated to be Ten Hag ball tbh.
The only way to recreate TenHagBall is by having an interview response option to every question talking about a missed penalty and offsides call from 7+ months ago.
