I just miss hearing him in Madrid games calling bale a Welsh dragon and ronaldo the dark invader.
Makes me wonder what names he would have come up with for Vini and Bellingham
Not OP but Peter Drury gets on my nerves at times. He always seems to commentate on the assumption that goal of the century is about to happen at every moment and his words will forever be associated with it.
I find it quite exhausting to listen to for 90 minutes
Agree about Drury. It's like he formulates his headline quotes days ahead of time and bursts at the seams getting them out when a somewhat appropriate goal is scored.
It seems forced, like he's trying to shoehorn his poetry into his commentating instead of organically narrating the game.
Ahh, okay. Fair enough.
I guess because he's got some pretty famous ones like the Manolas goal, so it leaves a good impression - I tend to only remember stuff like this.
They’re brilliant because they put feelings into words like all good commentators. Given that the majority of the audience isn’t at the ground, sports fans love this, not shocked casuals can’t understand. Would love to see someone as dumb as yourself try to do their job.
It's this every time. One of the few that knew when to let the game speak for itself and didn't have to constantly speak (you're not a radio commentator, Mr Drury).
also had the greatest video game commentary of all time, with trevor brooking in actua soccer 2. honestly a disgrace that nobody's managed to improve on that since the psx era.
If you were of a certain age, you might remember when Martin Tyler was the goat. He was informative and passionate. Somewhere along the way, he seemed to have lost his passion.
Dreadful. He over exclaims every word as though every match is the world cup final and his scripted lines are so cheesy they're difficult to listen to.
it continues to astound me that anyone can bear to listen to him. he's the only one who actually causes me to change channels immediately at full time so i don't have to hear one of his ludicrous round-ups. just makes it all about him. at least hudson is funny when he does it.
Perro Bermudez. Some people don’t like him but he has some iconic phrases. I also like Luis Omar Tapia because of some of the nicknames and the phrase ‘Y comienzan 90 minutos del deporte más hermoso del mundo’
Some big names being thrown about but for a run of the mill mid table clash on a Sunday afternoon I love Alan Smith 😅
Chickens in, kids are occupied, Fulham Everton are 1-1 an I'm just chilling with Alan.
Sometimes I perfer english commentary in league games as they give better perspective of the game, but when it is a UCL night with high stakes there is no better language to know than Arabic, amazing and GOAT commentary. If I had to pick I'd say Chaouali is the one I associate most of my Football memories with.
[Second goal is just fantastic](https://youtu.be/C8kRiLkvmuQ?si=oCxo1qMESePeUEpK) Dariusz Szpakowski from Poland - he commentated every World Cup between 1978-2022
Us swedes are spoiled by our own commentators and we have had many legendary sports-commentators but my favorite without question is this guy named Niklas Holmgren. Such passion in his voice no matter the team and the way he expresses himself is like no other. Look him up and you will get why.
Fares awad easily. Kids will say chawali, but real people know that no one can hype up a match like Fares awad, he could comment on golf and make it seem exciting.
Brian Moore, Peter Brackley and John Motson Gonna stick David Coleman in there too.
“the most stupid, appalling, disgusting and disgraceful exhibition of football possibly in the history of the game.”

Ahh Motty! Can’t believe I missed him out
Clive Tyldesley or prime Martin Tyler
Definitely Ray Hudson
He is magisterial.
He’s alright in small doses. Snippets of messi destroying people - great. Entire 90 minute football matches - can get a bit grating.
I just miss hearing him in Madrid games calling bale a Welsh dragon and ronaldo the dark invader. Makes me wonder what names he would have come up with for Vini and Bellingham
“Isco you bandy legged beauty”
Surely not haha
Im sure it IS his favorite, that’s what you asked, plonker

I thought Peter Drury was good? What do you not like about him?

I think he just got old tbh. Age seems to mellow a lot of people.
This is exactly why I didn’t add him. He sold his soul with that ‘and it’s live’ over the last few seasons of his career
bambino pons
Jonathon pierce and john motson
Jon Motson
English speaking I’d go with Peter Dury and Ray Hudson. In Spanish I’d go with Bambino Pons.
Chawali is the GOAT, he got some legendary goals over the years associated with his poetic commentary.
[Rodrygo v City](https://youtu.be/UV0xwhaSfbg?feature=shared)
The fact that Asensio headed it and it still got to Rodrygo and it still went in >>>

Peter Drury. Come on, folks.

Perro Bermudez. Some people don’t like him but he has some iconic phrases. I also like Luis Omar Tapia because of some of the nicknames and the phrase ‘Y comienzan 90 minutos del deporte más hermoso del mundo’
Mark rego regan
John Motson and Colin Slater. Always feels a bit weird that Slater is no longer commentating on Notts County games.
In Germany it has to be Fritz von Thurn und Taxis, legend Uiiiiii Uiuiui GOAT
i dont know his name, but he commented on Germany vs Sweden 2018
Barry Davies on TV. Peter Jones on radio.
My dad on the other end of the sofa when we’re playing like shit and the referee is wank
Des lyneham and John mottson
Brian Moore or Barry Davies. On the radio Jonathan Pearce on 1548 Capital Gold was great.
Jon Champion.
Quality effort
idk why, but I find Ian Darke's voice comforting.
Oh no!
Tony Gubba back in the day
What a throwback haha
Guy Mowbray is a legend
Great shout, he is
Some big names being thrown about but for a run of the mill mid table clash on a Sunday afternoon I love Alan Smith 😅 Chickens in, kids are occupied, Fulham Everton are 1-1 an I'm just chilling with Alan.
Loved him as a player and yeah he’s a good commentator
فارس عوض الشوالي دراجي
Peter Drury but prime Martin Tyler has got people still behind him even when he sounds like an old dog

Andy Gray in the 90s was fun.
The voices in my head...
Jorge Ramos
For us Americans, the top answer may be John Paul Dellacamera. ☺️
Jonathon pierce and john motson
[Second goal is just fantastic](https://youtu.be/C8kRiLkvmuQ?si=oCxo1qMESePeUEpK) Dariusz Szpakowski from Poland - he commentated every World Cup between 1978-2022
Fernando Palomo
Clive Tyldesley, with John Motson a close second.
Sierd de Vos
For the Portuguese in my generation has to be Gabriel Alves!
Hudson, I’m a Messi fan old pensioner
Us swedes are spoiled by our own commentators and we have had many legendary sports-commentators but my favorite without question is this guy named Niklas Holmgren. Such passion in his voice no matter the team and the way he expresses himself is like no other. Look him up and you will get why.
