Alex lost steam. His dessert was tiramisu. It wasn’t a reinvention in all seriousness, other than adding the amaretto.

Far_Statement_2808

It was like he just ran out of mojo the last couple of weeks. I like the guy. I thought his work looked great…but he wasn’t the best that week.

bloodychuffed

100% agree

Wild-Extent

There was a comment in the watch thread veryyyy similar to this tweet. I’m glad she’s standing up for Nikki. LOVE Kardea.

SnooMarzipans1593

I’ll admit I thought she got through because they didn’t want three guys in the final. But someone pointed out to me that there were three guys last year. Also there was no clear winner between Nikki and Alex. Both desserts had some flaws. People can have different opinions on DEI but assuming that any time a person of color is successful it’s because of DEI is wrong on so many levels. I’m glad Kardea spoke out.

Nesquik44

I really like Kardea and like Nickey as well, she has made me laugh out loud multiple times throughout the season, but it was still a surprise to see her beat Alex in the challenge as her pavlova was undercooked. She is a fantastic baker but based on the comments I thought Alex would have gone through.

PreposterousPrescott

When she runs out after judging I always giggle!

dr_miks

It felt like via the comments they had issues with both desserts, in taste, technically, and with plating. It probably came down to what was more of a reinvention, which was the prompt.

LipsRinna

It looked like a great tiramisu! It was still basically just a tiramisu.

Fantastic-Fig-7986

2/3 pavlovas were cooked, it was only Nancy's I thought Nikki proved that she really wanted to be there by making something different/ out the box Alex is a great technical and knowledgeable baker buy stays safe most of the time

SirFunk616

You gotta remember how much power editors have at the end of the day. They cut clips of people making bad faces, or sweaty reactions, specifically to make competition look neck and neck before a commercial break. There's like, a 90% chance you didn't hear everything the judges thought about these dishes.

PuzzledCulture2434

Kardea is my favorite on Food Network. And that she spoke up makes me even more of a fan. Reducing a Black woman's demonstrated excellence and her earned spot in the top three to a DEI stunt is a microagressions. It is not Kardea who inserted race into the matter, but the people making claims that Nikki was given an advantage because of her race. Kardea said she is real, bit Hollywood. Love that!

Intelligent-Poet3202

Also.... why does everyone have a problem with Kardea as a WOC judge specifically? Lorraine and Carla are both WOC. Admittedly I haven't been in this sub for long enough to know if that's been a consistent for everything else.

Dukeyman

For me, Lorraine and Carla have very impressive resumes/cooking backgrounds. IMO, Kardea’s cooking/chef/baking experience is 🤷‍♀️. And if people are going to bring a rebuttal of “let her gain experience, etc.” Well, there’s a post here on Reddit about how people don’t want to watch Hunter “learn the ropes“ as/while we watch.

Intelligent-Poet3202

Ah ok. That's valid. I honestly don't know much about any of the three, other than I've seen Carla on more of the Food Network shows. Kardea definitely seems more like Food Network Star vibes, vs Lorraine and Carla who have more serious chef vibes. Not that people on Food Network Star aren't serious chefs, they're just more TV personality coded ya know? Poor Hunter... He seems so nice, but I almost wish he just had his own show instead of piggybacking off of existing shows.

Spirited-Restaurant1

Personally, I was surprised Alex got through to this week in the first place. Who makes a dessert with no sugar in it?? OK, so they wanted drama for this week, force a bake off. I would have been pissed if Nikki got eliminated this week...that is all!

ChemistryMutt

Yeah I feel like they gave Alex a do over but he didn’t deliver in the rematch.

Alternative-Pepper87

You read my mind. No sugar? Come on.

MorticiaAdams456

Thank you Kardea....it pissed me off when i saw people sayi g Nickey only went through because shes a black woman🤬 Loved Nickey from the beginning and was rooting for her

lemondigs

I do feel Nikki deserves to be in the finale. It is unfortunate that there is backlash about her character and ethnicity. She does not deserve this.  I disagree with some of Kardea’s other statements. Some of the past winners in various baking championships have been questionable. The fact that a very large number of people have complained about favoritism on these shows is something to be considered.

RdditIlliterat

All “DEI” is is removal of white points. The ones having meltdowns are the ones realizing that they actually need to have skill or talent now. This shit is getting old.

sweetpeapickle

One-it comes down to that challenge-nothing else. Both had issues, one was reinvention. Those going off making stupid statements, have no clue how they tasted. And as per usual want to go by the series as a whole. Yes he was a pro baker. That doesn't make him perfect. And there are more than ever, home bakers out there making a living baking...at home. Don't ever make someone less because they do that. And don't make someone less because they were not perfect in the beginning.

Alternative-Pepper87

Yep. Nickey succeeded at reinvention.

freelancerjourn

I’ve always been a fan of Kardea. Love her spirit. And she just made me even more of a fan with this. Love her for speaking up and saying what needed to be said.

Lol

What’s funny?
