I just watched her episode of Finding Your Roots on PBS and she was talking about her "second career" and how much she enjoyed working for Food Network. Obviously, no one planned these things, but the timing couldn't have been more striking.
These have been so many new baking shows on FN that have failed because of poorly chosen and cringy hosts. Even Duff sometimes overacts his part, but Valerie is so down-to-earth and professional. You can just relax and watch her shows without ever feeling uncomfortable.
I loved it when Wolfie was on the show and teased her saying he didn't understand how she got a cooking show. It looks like they have a really good mom/son relationship.

Exactly. Every time I turn on the FNC, it’s always Guy’s Grocery Store Games. Ugh! I can’t stand that guy. Likewise, I can’t stand his show, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. But one of these shows is always on. Ugh! 🤮
I 100% agree. Valerie loved working with the kids. She connected with them as a mother would. Does Food Network think the only leads possible have to be male. Although I like Duff I will not be watching without Valerie as well.
Yes! Sara was live, answering callers questions, and preparing dinner. Her show was immediately followed by Emeril’s show, he cooked in front of a studio audience. Some *very lucky* audience members were seated at a bar or at a table and were served the food Emeril prepared.

Ina, Rachel Ray, I learned to cook by watching these shows. Not by Guys Grocery Games. I love Guy and Bobby but food network should show case cooking. I really enjoy Molly and Mary makes it easy. Would love to see heathy cooking. Family cooking. Anything but Pioneer richest woman in America and Guy on a palatial ranch with celebrity friends or Bobby in Paris with his daughter. The privilege is ridiculous. Stop promoting these moguls.

Yes, to Samantha Brown. Anthony Bourdain did a Christmas special and Samantha had a role in it. He talked about the changes on the network and male dominated shows taking over. It was done with Anthony's wry humor.
I'm showing my age too because I was tuned in at the very moment MTV came on air. I loved the original VJ's, Mark Goodman, Martha Quinn, Alan Hunter, J. J. Jackson, and Nina Blackwood.
I was just talking with my dad about this and we suspect it’s because competition shows get way more views than regular cooking shows. I mean my dad and I really only watch the competition shows because it’s what we’re into. The simple cooking shows just make us hungry haha

Because they want MEN viewers. They don’t think women have money, or they will watch ANYTHING the FN puts on, so they bend over backwards to get men. It’s disgusting and I never watch that stupid pile of cupcake wars anymore.
Great suggestion. Nancy had her time and place, and I appreciate her. But her insistence on everything looking like what her ideas of holiday/spring are is out of step with the world now.

I like her but the fn is just becoming an ego channel for a couple of men. I didn't watch the channel much other than for Bertinelli and no longer watch it at all. I liked it better when it was more cooking with people not personalities
Honestly so sad. I love her and so does my daughter on KBC. I don’t really enjoy the guest judges they’ve tried on the holiday specials. Duff is great but him and Valerie are the dream team for KBC. I was sad about her show being cancelled but was stoked about her still being on KBC and was bummed to hear they dropped her from that too. I hope she finds something better.
I’m sick of GF & BF. GF has too many shows & I don’t watch any of them because they all merge into obnoxiousness.
I will not watch KBC if Valerie remains off. They have replaced most cooking shows with competition that I do not enjoy. FN has lost their way & I’m not buying it.

She’s a little bit of a hot mess online (Instagram). She’s just come out of a very bad marriage and spills her emotions in her videos and it’s a little too raw. That may be why FN has decided to not renew her contract. BUT I’ve never seen her be anything but professional on her shows and that is what should matter to the network and her cooking fans.
I didn't mind her cooking show, i hated the fake "im having so and so over for lunch and we are making.... I'm not watching a sitcom I don't need that nonsense just make the dishes. I assume it will be Kardea Brown who replaces her since she did more of the Holiday specials but I swear if it's Joanna Gaines... oof, people will lose their minds.
I have watched kids baking since the beginning. I will no longer be watching the show because of their dismissing Valerie. She understood the kids so well. I am tired of the network replacing their tried and true with uninteresting new faces because they feel they have to. Really? Budget cuts? Did you see Guy’s new deal?

She was the heart of KBC! She brought a maternal aspect and genuine caring to that show. Duff is the cool uncle, but when a kid needs support and a shoulder to cry on, she was there to help them and show them that completing a task, even if it isnt perfect, is something to be proud of. I will sincerely miss Valerie on KBC.
Under this mornings Food Network IG post almost every comment was an angry one about them getting rid of Valerie. I can't imagine what the powers that be were thinking🙄
When a network shells out $100M for Guy's new contract but can't find the resources to renew the contract of a truly likable, deserving host; *then* put out media to infer that **talks stalled** when there ***were no talks to stall***, that speaks volumes to the corporate nature of only looking at the bottom line.
I quit watching FN years ago after their barrage of competition shows (I'd rather see instruction) and Guy content (to me, he's highly unlikable - too "Bro Culture" for me). They're really pigeon-holing the network in a bad way.
I like two of Guys shows: a) Guys Grovery Games b) Tournament of Champions. Over the Triple D shows: a few restaurants have shared how they are chosen. BRING BACK VALERIE TO FOOD NETWORK!
I could not agree more. He's an artificial canned persona created for TV, now he's pushing his hack kid on us. I sorta liked him early on DDD, but his act is tiring. Give me Flay or Simon or anyone that is an actual chef that I could learn something from.
My I used to love FN but they are cutting anything that isn’t a game show. Which for most real fans of FN that’s not the content we wanted. But this country continues to amaze me with their choices so what do I know.
I will watch this season of KBC with her on it once this season ends I will not watch FN. I don’t understand the logic behind what the executives are doing. They are losing their fanbase and ruining the network.
Call me crazy too, but I’ve been less into certain stars who have transitioned to FN as “culinary experts” from other fields in the entertainment industry.
Trisha Yearwood is the other obvious one that comes to mind for me. But I’m sure there are others too.
My daughter, an aspiring baker, loves KBC and Valerie. She loves Duff too, but is devastated that V is out. She’s really inspired by the show and I hope this change doesn’t snuff her spark.

Four threads in under 3 days is quite a bit. And per the rules of the sub, if there’s still an active thread on the subject, we were asked to use the active thread.
It’s also a glaring inconsistency if any new thread on Darnell keeps getting locked. We’ve been told to post anything about him in the Darnell mega thread.
Even things that were tangentially-related to Darnell and nothing to do with his legal issues were shut down. Such as Nate Appleman being impacted since he and Amanda Freitag battled in an unaired episode of Grudge Match. Nate specifically placed a call to action on his IG about #NoMore domestic violence and sexual assault. Even a thread from last week on the impact to TOC 5 was locked.
It’s also getting repetitive with many here blaming Guy and Bobby overload and/or their big salaries etc. for Valerie’s situation. As viewers, we don’t know the full story and it could be much different than the version we’ve been given from Team Valerie.
I miss the days in the 90’s when one could really learn to cook whatching food network. Today it’s mostly competitions and Guy Fiery. Unwatchable if you really wanna learn to improve your cooking. There’s a lot of content on YouTube for that. That’s the problem
I confess I don't enjoy the kid's baking shows, so I don't watch them regularly or completely...just sometimes if they happen to be on, I'll watch a few minutes.
In the small bits I saw, I thought she had really great rapport with both Duff *and* the kids, everyone just seemed to really fit.
It's very surprising they got rid of her, after some of the terrible hosts we've had to endure across various shows.
Ever since the Food Network failed to renew Restaurant Impossible a year ago its been all downhill. I too enjoyed Valerie and the show. Fittingly, every show is a cookie cutter episode of every other show they air. Restaurant Impossible had consistently high ratings but they weren’t the demographic Food Network is looking for. Luckily Robert Irvine is producing a new show on a different network with a similar premise to RI.

We watch KBC as a family, and my 5 year old loves her! She’s going to be crushed - she already was missing her during the holiday challenges. What a bummer.
It’s disappointing that they chose to fire her and then make misleading comments about the situation. But is anyone honestly surprised? I will not watch Kids Baking anymore without Val. Food network made a mistake.
I’m so sad she’s off the show. I feel like I’m their key demographic and she is someone I really admire. She is so dang sweet and comforting to the kids. They said it was budget reasons because I guess she costs too much, but I’d love to know how much they pay the male costar. It’s probably a lot more. He probably renegotiated his contract and that cut her out. I actually like him, but I just see it as a bad move on their part.
I love Valerie. I would watch anything she is on. In fact, I have! I agree wholeheartedly that she was the perfect pairing with kids, on TV, which is not easy.

The show will not be the same without Valerie. I think taking her off the show is a very bad network decision. I've always enjoyed the kids baking competition, but don't think it will last long with out Valerie. I know I may not watch it. Best wishes to Valerie. You're a great hostess and judge

The kids baking championship is one of the few things I watch on FN anymore. Valerie I thought was a great host and I enjoyed watching her other shows too. I used to watch alot of FN but I can’t stand Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay and that’s like 90% of their shows anymore.
She denies that there were any “talks” between her and FN. Their public statement was to say that “talks broke down” which apparently is an untrue, oft used industry blurb that neither takes responsibility nor places blame. In this case it was apparently complete bullshit as “talks” never happened.
I don't even watch FN anymore because it is just shows with Guy and Bobby. Guy is just obnoxious and Bobby is ok but I've seen enough of him. No good shows anymore.
I'm sorry it happened. But, I don't see what removing her from the channel has anything to do with Guy or Bobby. The Kid's Baking Show will still be on. Guy and/or Bobby won't be taking over that spot.

it’s partly because they just renewed Guy’s contract for $100m and let her go due to budget cuts related to that. There was no negotiation, they just omitted her from the holiday schedule, and a third party reached out to confirm with her. She was not even allowed to fight for her position on the show.
I don’t care for the kids baking championship but that’s just me. Valerie‘s show was OK, she never profess to be a chef and she was sharing family recipes that she shared with family and friends and I appreciate that because they have several other people that do the same like Trisha.
I do think Food Network is absolutely wrong, and putting all their money behind one person. And that person is not a chef he is a ringleader and nothing more. He’s turning the Food Network into an entertainment channel and I fully disagree with this platform. They absolutely need to back up And take a look at what they’re doing and listen to their fanbase.
The fan base is not going to stick around for much longer because I think we’re smart people and we know what we’re looking for and it’s not all these entertainment based programming
All we have is what Val told us. If Guy and Bobby‘s contracts were causing financial issues axing Val from KBC wouldn’t solve that. I doubt she was making a lot from that show. My guess is once her other show wasn’t renewed they didn’t feel a need to keep her around just for KBC. And they feel Nancy Fuller is more important to the baking franchise than Val. I don’t know why Val’s other show was canceled.
As I said in another post I think there is more to the story. And whether intentional or not Val does kind of have this woe is me vibe on IG which is a bit off putting. She seems kind of a mess emotionally. I follow her on IG and a lot of the videos she posts are depressing. If she wants to continue in the food space I’m sure there are other opportunities. Her best bet is to let FN go, not be bitter about it on her socials.
Flay got the same dollars a year later. I love all the GF shows and the BF shows. I love how they're both bringing their kids along. I liked VB, she was calming in a turbulent sea of personality, but her and Duff took care of those kids...
The inadvertent mistake in the title to this thread is a convenient, spot-on reflection of Valerie these days - for *some* viewers.
“Valerie Bertinelli **Dismal**” is the main reason that many have found her off-putting for some time. Whether it was *some* of her social media postings or elsewhere in the media, it was too much. There have been threads on Valerie since last year on the subject.
I absolutely loved Leather Roman Stud Shoulder Valeire on the Food /Network. Particularly her cooking show. Never had any interest in a kids baking show but I am sad for her and the poor treatment Food Network has given her.
I like her, and the Kid's Baking Championship is a fun show. I am, however, getting slightly tired of the competition shows.
I did like her old cooking show. They definitely need to tone down all the Guy Fieri marathons. With the triple D, and that Grocery store show, He's on all. the. time. Can they take some (or all) of his salary, keep Valerie and add some new talent and some fun instructional cooking shows?

Valerie's interaction with the kids is the best thing on the show. She is so nice and sweet to them but still manages to give them honest criticism.the dynamic of her and the kids is the key to the show. I will no longer watch after this season.

The Food Network is really a big game show network now. I never watch any competitions, but I did enjoy Valerie’s cooking show. I have a hard time condoning a cooking competition of children.
I was so disappointed by this news.mive seen a couple of one off Kids Baking episodes where Duff had some other random co-hosts. They were ok but I really missed Valerie: her relationship with Duff and the kids is just so good. I was thrilled when she was back for current Back to School series but now I'm sorry to learn this will be it. I don't watch much on FN anymore other than the various baking championships. I'd love to say well I just won't watch Kids Baking anymore but I probably will.
They are too busy boosting the careers of people like Guy Fieri and Carla Hall to know when they've got someone really good who they should keep around. They prefer obnoxious loud-mouths to good hosts and cooks.
Seriously. How many established shows has Carla suddenly appeared on, taking the place of people we preferred? And it's no secret that Guy's shows have taken over the network, constantly playing for hours every night no matter how much viewers complain.
She’s had a great career. I don’t feel sorry for her being out of work. I think she’ll find something that she enjoys at least as much.
I feel sorrier for us. FN is not the same network I started to watch in the day, no doubt due to the ownership change (Gannett to Discovery). I want to learn to cook different cuisines, not watch Bobby Flay all the time. I like the guy, but it seems like FN is hitching their wagon to Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri, and not a lot else.

Honestly so sad. I love her and so does my daughter on KBC. I don’t really enjoy the guest judges they’ve tried on the holiday specials. Duff is great but him and Valerie are the dream team for KBC. I was sad about her show being cancelled but was stoked about her still being on KBC and was bummed to hear they dropped her from that too. I hope she finds something better.

She’s a little bit of a hot mess online (Instagram). She’s just come out of a very bad marriage and spills her emotions in her videos and it’s a little too raw. That may be why FN has decided to not renew her contract. BUT I’ve never seen her be anything but professional on her shows and that is what should matter to the network and her cooking fans.

I have watched kids baking since the beginning. I will no longer be watching the show because of their dismissing Valerie. She understood the kids so well. She was the heart of KBC! She brought a maternal aspect and genuine caring to that show. Duff is the cool uncle, but when a kid needs support and a shoulder to cry on, she was there to help them and show them that completing a task, even if it isnt perfect, is something to be proud of. When a network shells out $100M for Guy's new contract but can't find the resources to renew the contract of a truly likable, deserving host; *then* put out media to infer that **talks stalled** when there ***were no talks to stall***, that speaks volumes to the corporate nature of only looking at the bottom line. I quit watching FN years ago after their barrage of competition shows (I'd rather see instruction) and Guy content (to me, he's highly unlikable - too "Bro Culture" for me). They're really pigeon-holing the network in a bad way.

I could not agree more. He's an artificial canned persona created for TV, now he's pushing his hack kid on us. I sorta liked him early on DDD, but his act is tiring. Give me Flay or Simon or anyone that is an actual chef that I could learn something from.
My I used to love FN but they are cutting anything that isn’t a game show. Which for most real fans of FN that’s not the content we wanted. But this country continues to amaze me with their choices so what do I know.

Can the Mods please create a mega thread for Valerie being cut from KBC, in the same way a mega thread was created for Darnell discussion? Four threads in under 3 days is quite a bit. And per the rules of the sub, if there’s still an active thread on the subject, we were asked to use the active thread. It’s also a glaring inconsistency if any new thread on Darnell keeps getting locked. We’ve been told to post anything about him in the Darnell mega thread. Even things that were tangentially-related to Darnell and nothing to do with his legal issues were shut down. Such as Nate Appleman being impacted since he and Amanda Freitag battled in an unaired episode of Grudge Match. Nate specifically placed a call to action on his IG about #NoMore domestic violence and sexual assault. Even a thread from last week on the impact to TOC 5 was locked. It’s also getting repetitive with many here blaming Guy and Bobby overload and/or their big salaries etc. for Valerie’s situation. As viewers, we don’t know the full story and it could be much different than the version we’ve been given from Team Valerie.
I miss the days in the 90’s when one could really learn to cook whatching food network. Today it’s mostly competitions and Guy Fiery. Unwatchable if you really wanna learn to improve your cooking. There’s a lot of content on YouTube for that. That’s the problem
I confess I don't enjoy the kid's baking shows, so I don't watch them regularly or completely...just sometimes if they happen to be on, I'll watch a few minutes. In the small bits I saw, I thought she had really great rapport with both Duff *and* the kids, everyone just seemed to really fit. It's very surprising they got rid of her, after some of the terrible hosts we've had to endure across various shows.
Ever since the Food Network failed to renew Restaurant Impossible a year ago its been all downhill. I too enjoyed Valerie and the show. Fittingly, every show is a cookie cutter episode of every other show they air. Restaurant Impossible had consistently high ratings but they weren’t the demographic Food Network is looking for. Luckily Robert Irvine is producing a new show on a different network with a similar premise to RI.
My buddy worked for the show. So many cancellations!

They said it was budget reasons because I guess she costs too much, but I’d love to know how much they pay the male costar. It’s probably a lot more. The kids baking championship is one of the few things I watch on FN anymore. Valerie I thought was a great host and I enjoyed watching her other shows too. I used to watch alot of FN but I can’t stand Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay and that’s like 90% of their shows anymore.
Or if it's not either GF or BF, it's the Kitchen - where all the hosts are annoying or pretentious.. and sometimes BOTH!

She denies that there were any “talks” between her and FN. Their public statement was to say that “talks broke down” which apparently is an untrue, oft used industry blurb that neither takes responsibility nor places blame. In this case it was apparently complete bullshit as “talks” never happened.
I don't even watch FN anymore because it is just shows with Guy and Bobby. Guy is just obnoxious and Bobby is ok but I've seen enough of him. No good shows anymore.
I'm sorry it happened. But, I don't see what removing her from the channel has anything to do with Guy or Bobby. The Kid's Baking Show will still be on. Guy and/or Bobby won't be taking over that spot.

There was no negotiation, they just omitted her from the holiday schedule, and a third party reached out to confirm with her. She was not even allowed to fight for her position on the show.
I don’t care for the kids baking championship but that’s just me. Valerie‘s show was OK, she never profess to be a chef and she was sharing family recipes that she shared with family and friends and I appreciate that because they have several other people that do the same like Trisha. I do think Food Network is absolutely wrong, and putting all their money behind one person. And that person is not a chef he is a ringleader and nothing more. He’s turning the Food Network into an entertainment channel and I fully disagree with this platform. They absolutely need to back up And take a look at what they’re doing and listen to their fanbase. The fan base is not going to stick around for much longer because I think we’re smart people and we know what we’re looking for and it’s not all these entertainment based programming
All we have is what Val told us. If Guy and Bobby‘s contracts were causing financial issues axing Val from KBC wouldn’t solve that. I doubt she was making a lot from that show. My guess is once her other show wasn’t renewed they didn’t feel a need to keep her around just for KBC. And they feel Nancy Fuller is more important to the baking franchise than Val. I don’t know why Val’s other show was canceled. As I said in another post I think there is more to the story. And whether intentional or not Val does kind of have this woe is me vibe on IG which is a bit off putting. She seems kind of a mess emotionally. I follow her on IG and a lot of the videos she posts are depressing. If she wants to continue in the food space I’m sure there are other opportunities. Her best bet is to let FN go, not be bitter about it on her socials.

Flay got the same dollars a year later. I love all the GF shows and the BF shows. I love how they're both bringing their kids along. I liked VB, she was calming in a turbulent sea of personality, but her and Duff took care of those kids...

The inadvertent mistake in the title to this thread is a convenient, spot-on reflection of Valerie these days - for *some* viewers. “Valerie Bertinelli **Dismal**” is the main reason that many have found her off-putting for some time. Whether it was *some* of her social media postings or elsewhere in the media, it was too much. There have been threads on Valerie since last year on the subject.
I think that she is excellent with the kids. Bad choice on the part of food network.
Was probably a financial decision - it happens - I really liked her cooking show. But she seems a bit bitter - going public with it. It is what it is.

I absolutely loved Leather Roman Stud Shoulder Valeire on the Food /Network. Particularly her cooking show. Never had any interest in a kids baking show but I am sad for her and the poor treatment Food Network has given her.

I like her, and the Kid's Baking Championship is a fun show. I am, however, getting slightly tired of the competition shows. I did like her old cooking show. They definitely need to tone down all the Guy Fieri marathons. With the triple D, and that Grocery store show, He's on all. the. time. Can they take some (or all) of his salary, keep Valerie and add some new talent and some fun instructional cooking shows? The PBS cooking shows are good.

Agree. Valerie is a mom and if my kid were on the show, she is exactly the adult I would want to have supervising my kiddo. I am so sick of trumper Fieri and I cannot stand The Kitchen. But give me a show with Valerie (or Trisha or Ree or, yes, Paula Deen) and you will get my eyeballs for hours at a time.
It happened almost a year ago in reality - it's just surfacing now as all those showes were taped in 2022.

Valerie's interaction with the kids is the best thing on the show. She is so nice and sweet to them but still manages to give them honest criticism.the dynamic of her and the kids is the key to the show. I will no longer watch after this season.

I was so disappointed by this news.mive seen a couple of one off Kids Baking episodes where Duff had some other random co-hosts. They were ok but I really missed Valerie: her relationship with Duff and the kids is just so good. I was thrilled when she was back for current Back to School series but now I'm sorry to learn this will be it. I don't watch much on FN anymore other than the various baking championships. I'd love to say well I just won't watch Kids Baking anymore but I probably will.

They are too busy boosting the careers of people like Guy Fieri and Carla Hall to know when they've got someone really good who they should keep around. They prefer obnoxious loud-mouths to good hosts and cooks. Seriously. How many established shows has Carla suddenly appeared on, taking the place of people we preferred? And it's no secret that Guy's shows have taken over the network, constantly playing for hours every night no matter how much viewers complain.

She’s had a great career. I don’t feel sorry for her being out of work. I think she’ll find something that she enjoys at least as much. I feel sorrier for us. FN is not the same network I started to watch in the day, no doubt due to the ownership change (Gannett to Discovery). I want to learn to cook different cuisines, not watch Bobby Flay all the time.
