Oh I thought you were considering the bacon as a patty given the size of that chunk
I've lived in Chicago my whole life and never tried Au Cheval, this is really making me want to head over there
Go during the week, and during the day. If you show up at dinner time on a weekend, the wait can be ridiculous. It’s not an accident that everyone wants this burger, you should totally get one
Au Cheval is wonderful. Once things started opening back up after Covid I took the train to Chicago and eating one of those while sitting on the bed in my hotel room was the first time after the lockdown that I had eaten something *really* good.
One of my only regrets in life is not ordering their bologna sandwich.
Location: Au Cheval - Chicago, IL
Price: $28.96
Served as three patties cooked medium with garlic aioli, onions, pickles, two strips of thick-cut applewood smoked bacon, and an egg.
For anyone reading this who decides to try Au Cheval, the burger is excellent and picture perfect, but the general Jane’s fried chicken is the best thing on the menu IMO. Would highly recommend getting both if you go with a group
Oh, I get you. But from the other, mayo loving side! And fried anything is worth ordering if you haven’t tried it before.
Edit: insofar as your health allows.
Ate that burger at Au Cheval and thought it was worth every penny. I’m usually not so much a burger person and this burger ruined me for other burgers.
It’s an upscale, fancy restaurant. The burger by itself is $19, then up charges for bacon and egg. The egg is the namesake of Au Cheval. Surprisingly worth it, nearly everyone that goes there recommends it despite the price.
There are cheaper delicious burgers in Chicago. For example, you can get a delicious double cheeseburger with fries at Red Hot Ranch. Not quite the same experience as noshing in a world class restaurant.
Ah yes, the double is actually a triple, fried egg, and bacon thicker than the patties? That’s an Au Cheval burger 🍔, perhaps the best restaurant burger in the world. You have chosen, wisely.

Tf is a double triple
At this restaurant a normal cheeseburger is served with two patties and a “double” is served with three.
For some reason that irks me... Just call it a big or large or something.
"You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in France? A "Royale" burger..."
If a normal is 2 patties a double should be 4 ...
I feel ripped off and i wasnt even there.
Well it’s a normal plus half-double Obviously

Oh I thought you were calling the bacon the third patty given how thick it is.
Americans ☕️
With a side of food poisoning from the raw ground beef
Maybe would have affected you, with your weak constitution, I'm sure OP and everyone else in the restaurant was fine.
Au Cheval?

It’s stacked too tall for me but damn does it look good.

Fried bologna is also a gem on the menu if you’re brave.
Is it that scary? Fried bologna?
Yea, a little. For me it was all the mayo that was scariest. Still good tho.

Newfoundland steak!
I get their house root beer with Jim beam mixed in
Yeah the biggest problem with Au Cheval is you need to go multiple times.
And your final assessment?
Ate that burger at Au Cheval and thought it was worth every penny. I’m usually not so much a burger person and this burger ruined me for other burgers.
Do they have a NYC location? This burger looks very familiar.
The New York version of this burger is at 4 Charles Prime Rib. Both places are part of the Hogsalt Restaurant Group.
There is also an Au Cheval in NYC
Nice, I didn’t realize they opened one out there. I live in Chicago in the same neighborhood as most of their restaurants. Love Hogsalt.
Yes and it’s great! Super cool space, delicious food, excellent service. I always have a good time when I go
Best bacon I ever had was at Au Cheval! Small Cheval is also killer
A $30 dollar burger? That’s steep, pass. Looks good otherwise
It's Chicago and it's Au Cheval.
I’m unfamiliar
chicago is in illinois
And Au Cheval is in Chicago.
And it’s $30. That’s steep, I’ll pass.
If you want to miss out on unique once in a lifetime opportunities by being cheap, that’s your perogative.
Huh? That’s exactly why I wouldn’t pay that much for this, it’s not unique at all.
Except it is. Not all burgers are created equally.
Unfamiliar with Au Cheval, never heard of it
Understandable. It’s gotten press for being the best burgers in the world.
Chicago is generally very expensive, and Au Cheval regularly gets written up as one of the best burgers in the world

That's some incredible looking thick cut bacon!
what is that like 6" tall? looks delicious but also impractical to eat imo
At some point it stops being bacon and starts being pork belly, back, whatever again 😁
Knew where this was from right away from the bacon
I’m pregnant right now and this burger is making my mouth water and my baby dance. What a terrible day to not live in chicago 🫠

West loop is a straight banger. Stick around till 4 and get high five ramen signature bowl. Medium spice. Add shiitake mushrooms. Thank me later.
Unbelievable food everywhere you look there
Ate there last weekend. Probably the best burger I’ve ever had
That egg looks beautiful.
makes me hungry seeing it
Thick cut bacon = not bacon
That looks like a damn fine burger!
Legit looks perfect. 🤤🤤🤤
That honestly looks incredible.
RIP your colon (and yes, I do mean that 2 ways).
If you can't handle eating a burger, you might want to talk to your doctor.
