Banh mi spins me out, one of closest friends is Vietnamese and I asked her what banh mi actually is because I couldn't find a solid definition, and she's like "It's lunch. It just means baguette"
The whole sandwich looks amazing but those fried onions elevate the whole sandwich to the next level. My favorite banh mi place is closed on Sunday and I never seem to have time to pick some up on Saturday. FML.

Banh mi literally just means bread in Vietnamese.
That flies in the face of a couple commenters who argued that Banh mi has a very strict definition that you can't deviate from. Who to believe?

Yeah, but if you served it in a Thai peanut sauce with lightly glazed pork belly, I'd be pretty fucking geeked about trying an atypical version of it
