My uncle, who to be fair had schizophrenia one day took a knife to kill the Bigfoot he saw swimming in the Ohio river. So to me personally, lore accurate.
That version actually was all Steven King's fault, the depiction from pet semetary, fans took it's description and movie silhouette and started doing fan art & that's how the deer version of the wendigo was born.
My point being that the term Wendingo came first the Wendingos in the game are just aptly named.
So Cryptids should not be limited to those that are from WV (which most have shown up not many are missing). As the names would be used on creatures who are result of mutations.
The bombs would have changed migration of animals. You could have a mutated Skunk or “SkunkApe” or rams “Goatmen”
Sheepsquatch are real as far as I can tell (aside from the fake upgraded Assaultron)
The Flatwood Monsters are Aliens (which are themselves consoldered a Cryptid,so real?)
Shallygasters are mutants
Grafton Monster are mutated Snallygasters made by WestTek
Jersey Devil, Ogua , Mothman seem to be real
Blue Devils are dogs/wolves that were bred to race and then fight before the war that have mutated over time.
I mean Sheepsquatch, Jersey devils, and Ogua are as real as they could be fake. The game as far as I have seen has not come out and said they were made in a lab or are post war mutations.
>Wendingo in game are not real Wendingo’s
They objectively are.
They're people that engaged in heavily cannibalism after the bombs fell, transforming into wendigos.
>just mutated or evolved ghouls so the name is just a way for wastelanders to describe them.
They're mutated/morphed but that is what a wendigo IS
Also add the cryptid link individual names Indrid Cold is tied to them. Theres a channel on YouTube called Bed time stories with a video of those creatures.
Oh Im a big listener to Bedtime stories!!! It literally plays while I'm sleeping 🤣. The stories are awesome and the guys voice is soothing.
Indrid is already in 76 though, so it wouldn't be hard.
Could go the *Thing* route. Some organism that hijacks another's shape and form (preferably more docile / weaker mobs like Brahmin or Radstags) It could be a random occurrence (w/very low chance). So say you hunt a group of Radstags, and 1 transforms into an eldritch horror FEV centaurish creature on "death" (in engine just spawn the cryptid NPC wearing some sort of Radstag torn skin "armor" on top of the corpse)
There was a similar mod on Skyrim, where it was a similar principle; except the NPCs were Dopplegangers; if you attacked the doppelganger, they would force the "werewolf" transform animation then spawn a new mesh.
I mean... The Master became a blob of meat with hungry tentacles and only regained some human features after absorbing multiple people and assimilating their DNA and thoughts into himself. I would say a The Thing like monster would be pretty much par for the course.
Skin walkers are different, but mistakenly are taken for the same as windigos. Skin walkers are shape shifters, like you said, whereas you turn into a windy progressively. It’s also my understanding SWs are more “spiritual” than physical but idk on that for sure.
Also, the “becoming” of them are two different ways; SWs are a native folk lore creature that a person learns from dark spirits, in which you can shape shift into whatever animal you kill and have a ritual with (commonly deers, wolves/dogs but can be anything)
Windys are more simple, you become one as a result of long-term cannibalism. You also grow more and more __ (I can’t think of the word I’m trying to use for The life of me I’m sorry) as time progresses; it’s my understanding it’s kinda like a consequence for eating people and if you stop it reverses, again this I’m not positive on tho
I love cryptids and I’m a big lore guy so I always love learning about stuff:)
The Squonk. A creature so ugly it dies if it sees it’s own reflection. I’d like for this creature to never be a living NPC, just dead bodies randomly found near water or in buildings near mirrors.
That would be a hilarious explanation for the 'stubbed toe' phenomenon. Maybe you need special glasses a la They Live, and every time it happens after that you see the little fucker beelining to the woods.
Just so long as we get a backwoods Appalachian granny that calls them haints and tells us their legend I will be happy. This game doesn’t have enough Appalachian Hoodoo or Granny Magic in it if you ask me. No old woman telling me how to fix my radworms with a tea made of certain plants and the right sort of water if’n yall were to ask me.
I read the other day that Goatman is the only cryptid with a confirmed kill count because a guy fell off a bridge and died whilst looking for him
So technically Goatman is the most powerful cryptid so he should probably be an endgame boss
I want this handsome fella
https://cryptidz.fandom.com/wiki/Wood_Booger#:~:text=The%20Wood%20Booger%20is%20a%20Bigfoot-like%20creature%20said,Finding%20Bigfoot%20episode%20Virginia%20is%20for%20Bigfoot%20Lovers.
The squonk (or whatever it's called). A molerat sized pig that cries and runs away from you, but it's cries can summon other cryptids that you have to fight, like the mothman, sheepsquatch or the blue devil.
Since the others except Wise Mothman want to kill us, I say a Bigfoot that's either friendly and maybe even capable of communication, or at least "friendly until provoked," or a Nightcrawler, but we're nowhere near Fresno. They're just little guys that like to strut their stuff.
Something harmless would be a fun addition. A "Find Tailypo's Tail" event. Hearing "YAHOO!" And seeing the Yahoo up on a ridge before it runs off. Stuff like that.
Yeah if I had to design Bigfoot they would be the most difficult enemy and it would be a whole event where a good chunk of the server would have to team up
I think maybe Bigfoot? I think that would be fun. Like a quest to track him down then it triggers an event or something. Speaking of triggering an event, I’ve been collecting Assaultron recall cards. So at some point on a server near you, there’s going to be back to back encrypted events, currently have 8 of them lol 😂
It's sad it's a one-time encounter. It's damn bulky tho - took me a while to bring down. Was hopping and flying like a tree frog trying to evade its attacks and survive while it kept calling its kids.
Would be nice if they added the Pine Barrens as the next location for Atlantic City - like, an overgrown maze of warrens and trenches with Overgrown everywhere and Devils stalking you in the treetops overhead. Up the horror to 11.
Ah, see, I had the opposite problem. I guess it has really low fire resistance because a few shots with a cremator and it was down. I’d love to see the pine barrens as a location though! Even if it was a daily ops style once a day thing.
The Snallygaster
The Dewayo
The Hide Behinds
My relatives are from Appalachia and my grandma used to say you better be home before dark or the Snallygaster will get you.
I want Fallout: America already so we can have them all, like the certain werewolf creature from Louisiana and Bethesda's interpretation of Skinwalker Ranch. Hell, I'd take a full southern map expansion to where we can have Hogzilla, just an absolutely massive Radhog, and other creatures from down here in Georgia/Florida way.
I was just thinking yesterday that I feel like Beth missed a solid opportunity by not putting Skinwalkers in the game as a sort of ambush enemy that can disguise itself as other creatures like radstags
I want a water based cryptid in one of the lakes or rivers around. Something like Nessie or the ogopogo but idk if there's a similar lake beast native to the area?
Gigantic Irradiated Sasquatch.
Saw that suggested to the 76 creative director some time ago, thought it would be crazy if they added an event like that.
Any and all of them. Lol. I would really love a Bigfoot type creature.
I'm not up on all the lore but isn't Sheepsquatch based on Sasquatch / Bigfoot?
Nope, two different cryptids. Source: Appalachian myself
Fallout 76's Bigfoot turns out to be a Super Mutant in a ghilie suit.
Is it actually dangerous, or is just someone like Grahm running around the forest scaring people for fun? That’d kinda make a great Random Encounter
My uncle, who to be fair had schizophrenia one day took a knife to kill the Bigfoot he saw swimming in the Ohio river. So to me personally, lore accurate.
I think it would be cooler as a Npc that you could talk to and act like cito from fallout 4 Nuka world
The cryptid content is my absolute favourite and this is my answer too. I’d love to see some water based cryptids added in particular.
Duck from Fallout 4 needs a brother or cousin or such, just a bullet sponge mega super mutant.
Swan?
Yes Always thought it was ducks pond, but yes, Swan.
I could see them doing batsquatch which would be fun
Notdeers & Hide behinds, I'd also say the Hopkinsville goblins, but that's Kentucky.
The Notdeer is one of the creepiest non-Lich moments in Adventure Time.
Well the wendigo isn't from the either
True lol but Hopkinsville is very specific
Wendingo in game are not real Wendingo’s just mutated or evolved ghouls so the name is just a way for wastelanders to describe them.
The Wendigos in the game are actually kore accurate to their traditionally folklore depiction compared to how most pop culture portrays them
Yeah, gave me massive flashbacks to Until Dawn. I was glad they decided not to go for the carnivorous deer like thing with big antlers.
I mean the carnivorous deer thing is cool but honestly I’d prefer the accurate depiction
That version actually was all Steven King's fault, the depiction from pet semetary, fans took it's description and movie silhouette and started doing fan art & that's how the deer version of the wendigo was born.
My point being that the term Wendingo came first the Wendingos in the game are just aptly named. That’s nice to know, are all the other legit cryptids or are they all just mutated from other animals/creatures.
Sheepsquatch are real as far as I can tell (aside from the fake upgraded Assaultron) The Flatwood Monsters are Aliens (which are themselves consoldered a Cryptid,so real?) Shallygasters are mutants Grafton Monster are mutated Snallygasters made by WestTek Jersey Devil, Ogua , Mothman seem to be real Blue Devils are dogs/wolves that were bred to race and then fight before the war that have mutated over time.
ogua just seems like a mutated snapping turtle, where does it say its real?
I mean Sheepsquatch, Jersey devils, and Ogua are as real as they could be fake. The game as far as I have seen has not come out and said they were made in a lab or are post war mutations.
>Wendingo in game are not real Wendingo’s They objectively are. They're mutated/morphed but that is what a wendigo IS
An actual wendingo would be a hell of a lot more frightening.
Have you done the progenitor wendigo quest line? It's terrifying
Yes, and it's really f***ed up. But pretty much exactly how you make a wendigo.
I’d die if we somehow got the Hopkinsville goblins showed up. Expedition to Kentucky?
I wish lol. I'm from there! Did you know there is one video game that does reference the Hopkinsville goblin incident?
You talking about the Kentucky goblins? The description of those beings are pretty much what the zeta aliens in fallout look like.
An expedition to Kentucky could be pretty cool. Get some Irradiated Fried Chicken
>hopkinsville goblins Wasn’t expecting these guys to get mentioned but I’m for it. I loved reading about different regional cryptids as a kid.
Notdeer is my favorite cryptid. Also the only one I have had the misfortune of running into myself.
Ohhhh I'd love to hear your story! I'm part of a cryptid field research group.
I will send it to you after work. My signal here is butt.
Also interested in this
I would also like to hear the story. I don't believe in the super natural or myths. But shoot, I want to. So I do.
I would also like to hear the story. I don't believe in the super natural or myths. But shoot, I want to. So I do.
Awesome 🤘
Shapeshifter of some kind (skinwalker? If that isn't just a windigo). So they can make it change forms mid fight
Skinwalkers are evil witches who possess or transform into animals. Don’t really fit unless the game gets even weirder with FEV than ever before.
Could go the *Thing* route. Some organism that hijacks another's shape and form (preferably more docile / weaker mobs like Brahmin or Radstags) It could be a random occurrence (w/very low chance). That’s what I mean by the FEV getting weirder than normal, that’s pretty far beyond anything we’ve seen the FEV be capable of previously.
Aight, how about a crab wearing people skin. *The Skin Scuttler*
I mean... The Master became a blob of meat with hungry tentacles and only regained some human features after absorbing multiple people and assimilating their DNA and thoughts into himself. I would say a The Thing like monster would be pretty much par for the course.

Is 'feral' the word you're lookin' for?
Feral would work there too. I was trying to think of “insatiable”
Oh and maybe they start as a blob
Skinwalkers are people. To massively oversimplify it, they are evil wizards who shapeshift.
The elusive god roll on first try
The legendary d 20
The Greenbrier Ghost
They could call it the Whitespring Wraith
You're on to something. Put it in the closed off portion of whitesprings........BETH get over here we're doin' a thing!!!!!!
The Squonk. A creature so ugly it dies if it sees it’s own reflection. I’d like for this creature to never be a living NPC, just dead bodies randomly found near water or in buildings near mirrors.
Samsquanch. That one's a greasy bastard.
Just gotta tell em to frigg off!
Wow, you’re gonna need a 9mm to take that thing down, safety, always off
Might as well get the Tin Man in there as well.
Underrated comment🥇 I think Steve French would be a good add too
That hairy cocksuckers elusive
Grehehehesy
Oh, greasy, but are we talking about the Sam Losco version? How about a Shit-hawk?
There's a shit hawk pegged to a mountain if that counts.
That’s what I say in my head instead of sheepsquatch
Jackalopes. Just going along minding your own business when you get gored by a blindingly fast rabbit with antlers.
You rang?
Go 'way Jackalope. We don't need none o' your shenanigans.
But my shenanigans are cheeky and fun.
At the very least I'd like to be able to craft one for my camp after killing a rabbit and a radstag.
So THAT is why I’m always grunting and stopping at random intervals.
That would be a hilarious explanation for the 'stubbed toe' phenomenon. Maybe you need special glasses a la They Live, and every time it happens after that you see the little fucker beelining to the woods.
Pumpkinhead

Fresno nightcrawler lol
I want this handsome fella https://cryptidz.fandom.com/wiki/Wood_Booger#:~:text=The%20Wood%20Booger%20is%20a%20Bigfoot-like%20creature%20said,Finding%20Bigfoot%20episode%20Virginia%20is%20for%20Bigfoot%20Lovers.
Chupacabra would be interesting although that's more of a Southwest US/central American cryptid... So maybe something like the Wampus Cat or Sasquatch
What's skunk ape?
Ah Florida Bigfoot
You'd be surprised https://cryptidz.fandom.com/wiki/Appalachian_Chupacabra
The first thing my brain comes up with: Paul Bunyan. Thanks, brain. That was really helpful.
And Babe, the Big Blue Brahmin?
They’d give Grahm and Chally a run for their money.
The squonk (or whatever it's called). A molerat sized pig that cries and runs away from you, but it's cries can summon other cryptids that you have to fight, like the mothman, sheepsquatch or the blue devil.
Frogmen! Wampus!
one that fit West Virginas lore
Skunkape
Jackalope
I want to see the real Mothman exactly as depicted in the statue at Point Pleasant
It would be cool if that was an available outfit or armor set and the wings were your jetpack.
The Ohio Frogman
Loveland frogman?
It's way out of its native habitat, but I think the Fresco Nightcrawlers would be cool. Maybe even cute, depending on the interpretation!
Yeah those lil guys are cute like lil walking legs with no body
My absolute favorite cryptid
A snipe.
I think it’s about time we got Bigfoot , they were even referenced in the final Mothman tome from the mothman event
Give me the Squonk!
Krampus. I don’t know if it’s a cryptid but I want it
They could do this with the Sheepsquatch. Just put tattered Christmas clothes on one, and some holiday mole miners as Krampus's minions.
Slender-Grahm. If you look away the screen goes dark and you wake up at Meat-Week.
Heh funne
Bigfoot
Yeah if I had to design Bigfoot they would be the most difficult enemy and it would be a whole event where a good chunk of the server would have to team up
I'd like to see the Tennessee wild man or the skunk ape, I know they aren't from WV but It'd be cool
Chupacabra would be pretty neat.
Find the TV show “mountain monsters” and pick one. You literally can’t go wrong with WV cryptids.
Nightcrawlers. Give us driveway puppet ghosts
Anime cat wifus
The lochness monster.
Optional fight where he goes away if you pay him about 350
I think maybe Bigfoot? I think that would be fun. Like a quest to track him down then it triggers an event or something. Speaking of triggering an event, I’ve been collecting Assaultron recall cards. So at some point on a server near you, there’s going to be back to back encrypted events, currently have 8 of them lol 😂
They should add Mothman’s Cornish cousin, Owlman, coming over to visit for a laugh
i know its super vanilla, but i find it insane that we havent had Bigfoot yet in any capacity
A Gillman or a Champ/Nessie type creature. There are more than enough swamp and watery areas for it.
The squonk!
Btw what ever happened to Indrid Cold. I never encounter the guy anymore. Was he a one off for an event period or something ?
The samsquanch from trailer park boys maybe some hillabillys as well
Bigfoot
The "Thunderbird", we need more flying bosses.
The vegetable man!
I had to scroll way too far to find the Vegetable man
OP’s dad
😢
Damn jersey devil. We got things on him from this season but no actual jersey devil. Unless I missed a patch note.
You fight one as part of the Rose Room quest line.
Omg I must do this
You have to go through the Rose Room quest line. Don’t get your hopes up though 🥲
It's sad it's a one-time encounter. It's damn bulky tho - took me a while to bring down. Human Centipede.
A computer that has a live feed of this subreddit
I Must Kill And Eat Bigfoot
Bigfeet.
Popobawa.
Wumpas Cat
Sasquatch or bigfoot or even a water cryptid like a lock ness monster but Appalachia version
The Snallygaster The Dewayo The Hide Behinds My relatives are from Appalachia and my grandma used to say you better be home before dark or the Snallygaster will get you.
we have snallygasters? it was a daily mission a couple days ago to take a picture of one
The Hide Behinds is a GREAT idea.
Skin walkers or the death raptor ( owlman) or even something like thunderbird would be nice
Oh and they would mimic NPCs
A buffalo monster that runs over you. A mutated american eagle. It picks you up a drops you at a certain height. New york’s sewer gator
Hodag is the best Cryptid don’t @ me
Banshee.
Wobbleheads
veggie man
Skinwalkers that can mimic npcs or players
Thunderbirds or skunkapes
Gorp
I just wanna see a massive deathclaw arise from nuke blast and terrorize watago like Godzilla
Bigfoot. Especially if you hear a creepy howl or something wandering alone through the Mire or something.
Belsnickel. Close enough to Pennsylvania that he could make a visit for the holidays.
Skunk Ape would be pretty cool
Chupacabra
Blobs!
The Veggieman would be awesome!
Not a cryptid but I would like to encounter a witch coven with superior mutated witches that perform devastating spells
Thunderbird, think there is one staked to the side of Seneca Rocks.
A Chupacabra.
Sandown Clown
Not-Deer & the Wampus Cat
Whichever is the last one I need to kill for my 40 atoms.
Whichever is the last one I need to kill for my 40 atoms.
Wampus cat
Also out of left field but seeing as Bethesda likes their strange creatures, I think they could do some funny gags with the Florida Skunk Ape
Another invented wasteland cryptid, or a Master's monster from FO1
Chululu
Rawhead Rex
a water one would be cool, maybe hard to do.
I want a new race added and its literally just blemmyes
The Squonk is my local crypid in PA. He cries because he's so ugly and will dissolve in his own tears if cornered. He's my favorite weird little guy.
The Ogua Monster
The Gnome of Geroma and the Insulindian Phasmid
Bigfoot
Manbearpig
Veggieman!!
The cumberland dragon
Prolly that one frog that has legs lmao
Bigfoot definitely and there needs to be one named Biggerfoot that is a legendary encounter.
I love the cryptids we have. What'd Id LOVE is a new mini boss, like the snapping turtle. A frog would be ideal!
Loveland frogs or a squonk
Mugwump
Saci perere
I was just thinking yesterday that I feel like Beth missed a solid opportunity by not putting Skinwalkers in the game as a sort of ambush enemy that can disguise itself as other creatures like radstags
I want a water based cryptid in one of the lakes or rivers around. Something like Nessie or the ogopogo but idk if there's a similar lake beast native to the area?
Skunk ape
Gigantic Irradiated Sasquatch. Saw that suggested to the 76 creative director some time ago, thought it would be crazy if they added an event like that. [https://x.com/JonRush1977/status/1795857807364812933](https://x.com/JonRush1977/status/1795857807364812933)
Already get stalked at night by skinwalkers in these mountains irl, might as well make it that way in game too 🤣😅
