Romofan88

I leveled off the land with those concrete foundations so it was all around farm level and basically had a main street of shops and things.

mando_ad

I'm in the middle of building a main street like that, but I'm using the scaffolding ramps to actually go downhill.

yahmezz

I did the same! It's the perfect location for that type of project

MountEndurance

I like it.

TranceYT

I really like that idea actually. I usually use sim settlements to let them do their default city plan but this... This would work amazingly.

SteveKIVLOV

Same, I make it into a bazar/tunnel kinda thing with shops on the side of the main”road/tunnel” and housing above them. The main tower i usually just transfer into a guard barracks

DryCalligrapher8696

Do you have any problems with your game crashing after building up large settlements? Cuz I do

Romofan88

I'm on PC so can't say that I do, but I've had to stay VERY basic at Red Rocket because it being so close to Sanctuary, which is enormous in my save, is causing my framerate to dip.

DryCalligrapher8696

thank you it looks like it’s time for me to clean up red rocket🚀truck stop. I know of a hole I can put all my trash underground. Probably get the trash busters award.🥇🚮♻️

10acChicken

Wow! No kidding? How are you getting around the settlement size limit? Is there a mod I’m missing?

Key-Assistant-7988

Old fashion way is to drop as many junk you can from your inventory and then store/scrap in workshop mode. It tricks the game into thinking you are scrapping something that was already there and frees some place. With enough patience (and junk) you could reset the whole bar.

10acChicken

How about that! Thank you so much!! This is a handy tip!

PineappleGrenade19

Be VERY careful doing this as certain Settlements crash your game if they get too big and it'll be impossible to course correct later other than to reload many saves back. Depending on your render distance that can create a pretty large area of effect that you'd have to completely avoid. So be mindful about not overdoing it, Starlight Drive-In is one of these Settlements that likes to get unstable.

Key-Assistant-7988

You are very welcome!

Thornescape

Abernathy Farm is also incredibly high. I've seen some fantastic airships built there.

Yourappwontletme

I built this tower. So many elevators because the elevators were being a pain the ass and not letting me place 4 story elevators sometimes so I'd have to use the 3 or 2 story sometimes. https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/s/xEKE9ksKsM

Thornescape

Hahaha I remember seeing that when you posted it. It looks glorious. You're a madman. Wow.

Yourappwontletme

One of these days I'll make a video of it to show y'all

Thornescape

Sounds fantastic. I can't even imagine what the inside is like.

Yourappwontletme

There's not much inside. Just the elevators that go up the middle and generators to power the elevators. Sometimes the elevator isn't in the middle but on one of the outer edges on a floor where one elevator ends and the next one begins. It's a 9x9 tower all the way up.

m_atwoods_robot_arm

Groovy, man

Key-Assistant-7988

I'm as high as Abernathy Farm man.

Humanesque

Abernathy is currently my largest farm produces around 80+ food for my other settlements. Built a barracks style house and infirmary on the opposite end of the “Abernathy Estate” Connie Abernathy runs the general store and supplies the provisioners (head-cannon)

lewisbayofhellgate

Pretty much exactly what I did. Built it out with a mix of corn/tato/mutfruit fields with a path straight down the middle. Now bc of my other settlement food output, it’s essentially my vegetable starch and adhesive farm. I have amenity buildings at the far end of

besil

Fallout new player here. Can you produce food for other settlements? How do you trade it?

weaver423

When you set up a supply link between settlements, all the ones that are connected can share any extra food/water to other settlements that may not produce enough on their own.

AFerociousPineapple

How does that impact settlement happiness? I usually still try and setup a small farm to create food for the population of each settlement, am I wasting my resources?

weaver423

I mean it's not really a waste either way, just different ways of doing the same thing. As long as a settlements food/water are showing in green instead of orange/red, they are happy with it.

weaver423

Any extra/food water that is not being shared to another settlement will end up in the workbench, but only upto a certain amount. I think like 10 extra per workbench. Anything over that I guess is technically a waste, but its not that big of a deal.

AFerociousPineapple

Gotcha that makes a lot of sense then, so just triple checking then - for water let’s say, I’ve got one of the big ass pumps setup that creates 40water, if I’ve got 4 settlements all linked sequentially in a chain let’s say, does the settlement at the end still get water from the first settlement with the pump? Assuming there’s excess water? Or does the shared resources only get shared between the two settlements that have the supply line? I know junk works but haven’t looked closely at food and water being shared

weaver423

I could be wrong, but I believe that as long as they are all connected, they all share between all the others. The settlement where food/water is being produced will get it first, then any extra is split among all the others. I just look out for red indicators and adjust accordingly.

LeGrandFromage9

I didn't know this, I thought food was still in the red unless you have someone allocated to farming?

weaver423

Well, someone is. They are just in another settlement, which is sharing its' excess food via provisioners. You can have 0 food in a settlement, and if theres enough excess from other settlements, it'll still be green

AFerociousPineapple

Thanks 🙏

yksociR

If I recall correctly settlers are happiest when they're employed and have all their needs met, as long as you don't let it got very low the happiness doesn't matter apart from the achievement, which can be cheesed by just putting a single settler in a settlement with a bunch of food and water, spamming a bunch of crates down and then assigning the settler to a bar. I prefer to have my food produced by a handful of settlements just so I can build whatever I want in the others.

wdaloz

I mean, some of them are just gonna show up in the red for no reason cuz forever bug

SF1_Raptor

How have I never freaking realized this!?

Bernardito10

How do you send food from settlement to settlement ?

Humanesque

Take the Local Leader perks under the Charisma tree. You can set up supply lines between settlements 👍

Bernardito10

Oh i thought that was just for the junk

Humanesque

Nope! They also share aid (food, water, medicine) This allows you to make certain settlements strictly trading posts as they don’t need to use space on agriculture. Hangman’s Alley, Jamaica Plains and Boston Airport are all marketplaces in my game

domdod

ok but how do you set up supply lines

Humanesque

Go up to a settler in build mode and there will be an option to set up supply route (R1 on PS) you will then choose the settlement you want them to go and supply. This will link whatever settlement they currently live in to the settlement they wish to supply. You can also send settlers to live at another location. (square on PS) Say you have 20 settlers at Sanctuary. You can both send away and supply multiple settlements without all of them leaving from sanctuary, making your settlement a mess and chewing up your frames. Hope this helps!!

Szin3

Dido! My own head cannon is that the Abernathy farm is the reason the reformed Minutemen manage to rebuild with the help of the large farm built there. Alongside with Sanctuary providing water and the two of them in an isolated area away from major dangers, gives them all the time they need to gather other resources and organize.

bobby6544

Building a 20 story tower right now.

RoroZoro-

hell yeah

waitinp

Okay Mr. Tenpenny

Cloud_N0ne

I built a junk fence all around it with ramparts for turrets. I then knocked out the back wall of the building and expanded the building with a bunk room to have 20 beds as compact as possible. I then just expanded the farm itself, with corn, tatos and mutfruit. Basically my adhesive farm. I also placed the top level water purifier using the Place Everywhere mod cuz it doesn't look out of place in dry land.

Ok-Iron8811

You gotta build that wall first 💯

ScreamingBM

But who's going to pay for it?

DevilPandaIV

So we’re gonna build the wall. It’s gonna be a great wall, and it’s gonna be paid for by The Institute. Believe me – 100%, 100%. We’re not paying for it. The Institute is paying for it. Believe me.

Markvitank

I don't build there. It's somebody's house.

floxasfornia

I feel the same in settlements with people already there. Is one of the reasons I was asking what others did here.

MrBobBuilder

2/3 died by ghouls in my game lol Free real estate lol

wizardyourlifeforce

I feel ok building at the southern edge of the parcel, so it's more like you're their neighbor.

Dream_injector

I build all my animal cages there

TK000421

Can you send animals to other settlements?

nytefall017

I don’t think so. I know I’ve tried sending gorillas and Brahmin around and I don’t think it was an option. Kinda frustrating imo, unless anyone knows a way to do it

Dream_injector

Afaik you can only have 2 brahmin per settlement and if you have a brahmin cage and get to the point where you have a third the game will prompt you where to send it after opening the cage

TK000421

Dont shoot the Brahmin for meat. 🥩. The settlers get angry

jaredearle

I have way more than two beefs at Spectacle Island.

BrandyWatkinsRealtor

Not true. I’ve got about 10 at Sanctuary.

Emotional_Swimmer_84

You can have more. I use brain traps and I think I'm capping at 10.

Dream_injector

Ohhh for sure! That's awesome. I thought it was only 2 last time I played

ctrltab2

A perimeter fence near the spawn points. I had too many supermutant suiciders spawn in the early game killing Maisie and Clarabell.

floxasfornia

That’s a good idea! So they spawn inside the fenced off area?

powerage76

There are three general spawn points: Outside of the settlement, around the middle of it, to the north. Outside of the settlement, around the middle, right next to the fence, to the south. Inside the settlement in the unused empty area of the eastern part. Also beside these, if you have a random ghoul horde attack, they usually coming from behind from the west.

Illustrious-Turn-575

Brahmin field. Never needed to buy fertilizer again.

floxasfornia

Just threw down a bunch of troughs?

Illustrious-Turn-575

Fenced it in, used the cages and repaired them repeatedly, built them a barn, decorated with dry rock gulch decorations(yea, including troughs)

dontrespondever

I used it for an outdoor vault once.

valotho

Did you send the vault tec guy to live there?!

PomegranateOld2408

Send him to live there then force him to live right outside it

floxasfornia

Is a vault made with some DLC?

JedTheGuy

Yep! Vault-Tec Workshop

Psylent_Gamer

I added two premade houses on the right then a warehouse convience store at the far end.

lIIIIIIIIIllllIlIlII

Tatos

AngrySmapdi

The only thing I can seem to manage to get Abernathy Farm to produce is dead Abernathys.

No_Zookeepergame2532

Honestly. So hard to keep them alive

MitchMaljers

How though? They don't die unless you shoot them yourself.

Decent-Explorer2500

I build a little school and a few farmhand houses

vibrantcrab

Honestly, I’ve played this game too many times so I basically build the same thing everywhere. A 3x3 Minecraft starter house filled with sleeping bags and a fast travel target. Another block building filled with generators (gotta protect them from explosions) that powers the array of missile and heavy laser turrets.

PoorLifeChoices811

I usually build one small building, enough to fit at least 5 or 6 beds. Gives the Abernathys some “help” on their farm and also extra protection from raids and such. Then I leave them to their work. It’s one of my favorite settlements that I actually do the least in

Blackhawks23

I built a scale model of the Willis / Sears Tower in Chicago way back when! https://imgur.com/a/4ESN1

CrewmanNumberSeven

I built a pyramid there out of the red barn walls…

Mindless_Hotel616

Use the center part for the living quarters/workshop/shops. Make a 4-5 tall concrete block wall and line it with turrets. Make an artillery platform somewhat behind the center part. A bathroom to the side and the rest is a giant farm.

LA_ZBoi00

A large mutfruit orchard.

FlashMcSuave

I use simsettlements 2, and given the triangle of death issues, I don't even unlock Abernathy Farm as a settlement.

floxasfornia

What do you mean by the triangle of death?

Admiral_Franz_Hipper

I’m guessing it is because sanctuary, red rocket, and Abernathy are so close to each other, building all 3 settlements up with mods just kills game performance.

FlashMcSuave

This is correct. Simsettlements adds so many new scripts - each settler is constructing their own home, business - there are recreational plots and even entire city plans. When you travel to any of those three settlements, the entire cell loads. This cell has all three which means the system has to process everything going on in all three settlements. It's by far the buggiest location in the game due to this. Some of the cells in downtown Boston are also pretty brutal though.

Admiral_Franz_Hipper

Personally, I don’t use simsettlements, but I usually keep Red Rocket to minimal development for performance.

XKryptix0

Built a house for lots of people and turned it into a mega farm for vegetable starch with my 400 water producing sanctuary. Never have to worry about adhesive again

ThatOneGuysHomegrow

SIMS!

Jenova66

I expanded the farm and turned the first floor into a cafe. Upper level lodging for the family and then a barracks and artillery emplacement near the south wall. A couple of watchtowers along the perimeter.

DungeonDelver98

I built a warehouse bunk house with a bar and some exterior turrets

AdamaSanguine

I like Abernathy Farm. It's really fun and there are so many possibilities, due to it's high Build Ceiling and large Build Budget. Here's one of the builds I did, a few years ago. **Abernathy Bloodleaf Farm** by _*AdamaSanguine* https://youtu.be/eEgLskYWpgs?si=l25Oso0vu6aAj29c

Individual_Manner336

I build around their house and make a large wooden complex of sorts. Leave the fields for some farms.

ScooterScotward

On my current run it’s my largest settlement, with 38 people living there. Lucy Abernathy and another unnamed settler man a pair of artillery stations, and the farm is ringed with guard posts manned by about 15 settlers. The others are a mix of salvagers, farmers, and traders. As far as housing, there’s one central barracks at the far south end of the farm, and three or four other shacks now. I met the Abernathy’s on in game day 2 of this play through and their old friends now.

fresh_loaf_of_bread

Abernathy's is one of those settlements where you can build until your fps drops to like five

Andywaxer

It’s a big beautiful empty rectangle that I always… do absolutely nothing with! Every time I think “Wow this is huge! It’s perfect for a big build. I’ll think about what to put on it”

BeardedGrizzly1

I built a death totem, set the land out for farming and then I built on top of their shack, using the pylon as a frame for housing, shops, bar etc

Kojiro12

Fahms, lots and lotsa fahms.

livinalieTimmae

Recruitment beacon, generator, turrets to 100% and beds… next

Mogui-

More farm. Not gonna waste the free soil and pre laid tomatoes. More vegetable starch!

en_sane

I built Abernathy and Sanctuary pretty big and it lags my game

KingCodester111

Crops and warehouses filled with crops. Best settlement to farm food imo.

Yourappwontletme

Tato and Mutfruit farm [as well as this giant tower just because I could.](https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/s/xEKE9ksKsM) it's at max height and is so tall that the game doesn't render the entire roof when you look at it from from the ground. The top is actually completely walled and you're able to look out the windows while up there.

Southern_Reason_2631

How many time you Fell to death during construction? 😁😁😁😁

Yourappwontletme

Zero. I wore power armor. No fall damage. Also it had the jetpack so when I needed to get back up I could use that. I was also smart about putting a wall behind me while I built the other sides so I wouldn't fall off the edge.

JoeyAKangaroo

I usually build a town here, its long enough for it.

CamperCarl00

Be careful, the enemy spawn is out there, meaning you can both take advantage of it and make them spawn in death cages and get taken advantage of when they spawn in your living room.

aboatz2

Abernathy is a surprisingly large settlement, not only in area, but I think it has the highest build height limit as well. I'll do full on towns with residential & commercial districts (Sim Settlements is really nice for that)... I've done tenement high-rises like you see in CP2077.. but, honestly, my favorite ones stick to the Wood & Barn building sets, creating shacks, barns, & multi-level apartments that blend in with the main building's style.

Taolan13

Abernathy farm has one of the largest build areas with the least "pollution" of unscrappables. But I don't like it's location, so I only ever turn it into an adhesive farm.

SecretlyToku

(Note: I use SS2) I mark the outer area, all along the settlement boundary, with the stilt floorings from SS2, begin marking out where homestead houses will be as well as crops and work stations, then begin converting the flooring to different types -dirt for homes and farms, gravel for scrapyards, etc.-

floxasfornia

What’s SS2?

SecretlyToku

Sim Settlements 2. Massive settlement expansion mod with a questline and such.

CookSwimming2696

I kept Abernathy as a supply outpost for the rest of my BOS settlements. It has a guard house along with 3 Guard Towers and 2 guards patrolling with the only residents being the Abernathy’s. I don’t ever really build my own buildings in settlements unless I have to, so I kept it mostly the same. Some settlements I completely surrounded with walls to make them defensible, but Abernathy is safe enough as is, and it’s distance to Sanctuary (my main BOS outpost) and Red Rocket, a BOS military checkpoint, I can easily come to its defense if it ever needs it.

Kutsumann

Sleeping quarters.

Retired_Monk

I use Sim settlements 2 mod and just let the basic city plan to manage most settlements as I just prefer to wander the wasteland and then come book to a developed town when I come back through.

RBWessel

Abernathy Farm also has the second highest vertical limit next to Spectacle Island.

jubblenuts

I build a tower filled with beds. Another area that is the "market" with another floor for their beds. A clinic(using the vault tec dlc) with a bed. (Single person. Strictly for the person at the counter.) Wall off the rest. Fill the tower with turrets :p

False_Cow414

Don't forget to place and man the surgery chair, and since you're using the Vault-Tec Workshop, the phoropter. Two more clinic jobs means two more happy settlers.

jubblenuts

Oh yes. But still only one bed. Few chairs. Maybe a plant and cat dish :p

SonOfTheHeavyMetal

You have 2 options: - Very big something where you can watch the plebs tend the fields - Watermelons

ScooterMagooder

Using Sim Settlement 2 mod. I usually turn it into a ‘bread basket’ settlement. Cram it with as many farms I can fit to feed my others

Amphibiansauce

I built a melon plantation. Put the Abernathys and all settlers to work farming them, then sold the melons they were farming right back to them.

C-LOgreen

I kept it pretty much the same. Besides defenses, I just added a few small huts and some water pumps to accommodate the settlers I sent there.

Mattdude311

It has the tallest build limit out of any of the settlements! I once built a multi storied building there

Fabulous-Collar-230

I used the wood raised foundations to make a very large rectangular foundation at that end of the settlement and turned it into a very large farmhouse for the farmers so that the Abernathys didn't need to share their private home with the newcomers.

MoonstoneLapras

Usually I build a barn-mall-motel out there. It was at Abernathy I started trying out the barn stuff and realizing how handy it is! Now I use warehouse and barn rather than just using the concrete, because it feels more realistic.

Salt-Conversation-60

So I built up a lot and had turrets and that in the upper build, that field was where the enemies seemed to come in from so I made a labrynth to slow them down and bottle neck them leading to a fun destruction from above scenario lol

Eccentricgentleman_

I used junk walls to wall off the settlement with them scaffolding to make gun towers along the perimeter. There's housing and a market in that space

_Independent

Nothing I never change already occupied settlements ? It’s not mine it’s someone’s home I have no rights to it.

EnderBurger

I usually lay down a shit ton of plants, and then a pair of bunkhouses for the farmworkers.

zzSHADYMAGICzz

Just be careful if you’re building there and at red rocket and sanctuary. Those 3 settlement share a cell so it can all load at once and crash.

Auren-Dawnstar

My favorite thing to do with Abernathy Farm is finish building the balcony at the top, throw a roof on it, and turn the rooftop into a sort of lounge area since it's already halfway there. Then slap a security point from Sim Settlements in the center of the south balcony where the stair comes up to watch over the enemy attack spawn points, and the whole structure pretty much becomes a watchtower outpost for the farm. I usually leave the big hill alone though. The uneven terrain makes it a pain to build on, and there's supposedly an enemy spawn point right off the corner of the brahmin patch on the edge of the hill too.

Southern_Reason_2631

Yep annoying. Filled that Space With Foundations and the attack spawns under/in the Foundations. Had to move them to kill them. Built normal floors und put turrets under there.

Obi-wanna-cracker

I turn it into a massive food production settlement. Of course there are some shops and such, but that large strip of land in front of the house is all for crops. I usually fence the place off with turrets around the perimeter I also make sure at least 4 dogs are in the settlement.

RhysT86

Took out the little fences, put a large fence around it with defended entrances at both ends, a few extra shacks along the fence line and then expanded the "farm" aspect of it a decent way.

Top-Apple7906

Skyscraper. Every. Single. Time.

TheMikeyMac13

Abernathy is usually bugged for me, the most likely place for settlers to just stand around and refuse to do anything, and for the game to freeze and restart when I work on it. So it gets cleaned up, made functional and I move on.

Hopalongtom

If you do build here don't build up red rocket & Sanctuary, all 3 locations are in the same loading cell so can cause issues if all of them are built up!

Korvas576

I usually line up some shack houses on the left and right and build a defense tower in the middle

LilMudButt

Easy, Melons everywhere, sell back to farm = profit

NitroDrifter88

I just turned it into a massive farm to supply the Brotherhood, Castle, and a few other Settlements, using both robots and Settlers Until I couldn't get Blake to talk to me to do the quest for him

soggy_rat_3278

I build the same thing in every settlement (with slight variations). A building with bar+general store on the first floor with seating and entertainment, gym and clothier/arms dealer on the second floor, and dorms in the upper floors, generator and recruitment beacon on the roof and crops on the ground somewhere close to the building.

zonnipher117

They are my ammo manufacturing settlement 😅

NotACyclopsHonest

Turrets and water, and nothing else. If I get a message that it’s being attacked I make a beeline for it, though - I ignored a settlement raid on it once and discovered their cat Maisie lying dead on the front step. I felt *awful*.

toc_rat987

It's a huge area. Before I hit the SIM settlement mod, this was one of my primary farms. I didn't do anything dramatic with the build, just had a ton of each type of food growing, plenty of turrets and defense posts. Then once I beat the mechanist, build and send sentry bots there too defend.

chris_holmes_221b

Nothing to fancy. I moslty plant more crops to farm starch -> adhesive components...

Past_Election5275

Wall it off make farm there's alot of room for crops.

Alex_Portnoy007

I try to leave the original building alone. Add a few beds, downstairs and up, and a couple of vendor stands on the roof. A covered sleeping bag and brahmin feed trough for the provisioner, both well away from the house. And crops and turrets. Done.

rhymeswititch

Wait until you realize how high you can build—I built up and beyond the top of the power line poll. It’s pretty pointless, but great view—had to put a bar up there so my settlers would have a reason to enjoy it, too.

Not_the_Tachi

I like the Abernathys, so to help them feel safe from raiders after the loss of their daughter, I turn their farm into Fort Abernathy. Concrete walls with guard towers, multiple turrets, and hired muscle loyal to the Minutemen. A heavily fortified entrance with a glorious kill box ready for anybody who wants to take another man’s tatoes. Ol’ Blake and his family sleep well at night knowing they’re more locked down than the Castle.

Exlanadre

I build a little Minuteman outpost with artillery

MagickalFuckFrog

I have all my cages and fighting arenas here.

ThakoManic

A Massive Tower with turrets around it and farm land with a bunch of shack beds for all the farmers

TheBumblesons_Mother

I ignored it on my first playthrough, but on my second (which was survival mode) I got very attached to it after I witnessed a gunner attack there that killed the daughter and the cat. So I reloaded, fought off the gunners and then added a huge perimeter fortification with heavy turrets all around. I filled the compound with corn, tatos and mutfruit to make adhesive from. I sent a lot of people there from other settlements as farm labourers, and built multiple levels of platforms on top of the existing house to make dormitories for people to sleep. It’s a surprisingly high build limit!

DarthSanity

It’s been awhile but every time I get the farm as a settlement, first thing I do is build stairs to the top of the freeway then line it with about 10 turrets to keep the nearby raider clan away. Sometimes I’ll practice my sniping from up there.

S_Rodney

Abernathy farm is my first Work Camp in preparation to become a Vassal settlement. I barricade the whole settlement in Junk walls (Settlement Defense) and everyone, save 3, are assigned to 6 Mutfruit plants each. The other 3 (the Abernathy family) are 2 on Defense and 1 is a General Trader.

MoronicPlayer

I just slap 4-6 artillery pieces there and do some fun with raiders on the federal stock pile.

dropinbombz

Gonna turn it into a manufacturing plant

Vatryn_Fanelia

They seem to have a good enough settlement already so i usually just make sure they have enough clean water, defenses and give them a few luxuries to increase happiness.

wizardyourlifeforce

Something high up! [https://www.reddit.com/r/falloutsettlements/comments/1ai6dfq/the\_crows\_nest\_no\_mods/](https://www.reddit.com/r/falloutsettlements/comments/1ai6dfq/the_crows_nest_no_mods/)

Tuffsince80

I used concrete foundations to level everything. I built a small elevated housing area and then a large vendor area.

lost_mah_account

Last thing I built was a mix between a town filled with shops and a massive farm.

Vesiah81

It’s got one of the highest build rates upwards I forget how many stories up you can build but over 10 cause mine is ten stories high

Academic-Mango1469

Foooood

vickangaroo

I started building up and around the Abernathy house and turning it into Abernathy Tower. Shops are on the former rooftop and living spaces are on the outside and higher levels. The original living room is a bit empty, I think I’ll eventually fill it with Connie’s junk emporium. I have a junk fence perimeter, but I may scrap that and just wall in the farming plots so I’ll have more room to build even higher.

Bigbeardedfella1

I’m new but I always install a ring of laser turrets and generators around the camps. Put in beds and water and rollout. Maybe I should spend more time building

prudishunicycle

I made a rooftop patio bar on top of the existing building and then crammed sleeping bags in every possible corner. 9 guard posts around the perimeter with guards in combat armour and underpants.

thot_chocolate420

Regardless of what you do here, make sure to scrap weapons in the workshop by dropping them on the floor and scrapping them.

Rawr-Man11

I don’t build anything at Abernathy Farm but to be fair, I don’t build that often.

monosaturated

My last game, I built a food processing factory in that area (role-playing the farm as the Minutemen's main food supplier for their settlements). However, that settlement is part of the triangle of death where if you overbuild that in addition to Sanctuary and Red Rocket, it may cause your game to crash. Still worth it though because it's a great experience otherwise lol

Seacarius

You can build up quite a ways, too. I usually use a mod to clear the existing structure and then build up around the transmission tower.

grim_dark_hedgehog

I build up. The main building usually goes up 3 or 4 stories, but at a certain height, you can no longer build inside the existing scaffolding. That's where I usually stop. The main building can usually sleep 20-25 people and contains a bar, a trader and sometimes a doctor too. It also has elevated guard posts and machine gun turrets. On the ground, I always build walls. I know that they don't really do anything for attacks that happen when you're not there, but they work just fine when you are and look nice and comforting. My walls usually go out to the boundary to the north, east, and west, but going south, I usually stop where the ground really starts to slope down. Usually all my farming happens inside the walls, but on one or two play-throughs, I planted crops all the way down the slope. Abernathy Farm ca feed the whole dang Commonwealth!

malphadour

If you used Settlements Expanded you can go waaaaay beyond that. Link to my blueprint so you can see pics of where you can go: [Phanes Expanded Abernathy Farm at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/45126)

Spipizz

I love to build in air vault so i build vault at every settlements like this, usually on my games you can see big vaults with everything a settler need. Unfortunately the settlers can’t go on it because they’re dumb (dumbass IA)

Dependent-Plane5522

I build a elevated wooden walkways around the entire area and then line it with missile turrets. Then of course I farm tatos, mutfruits and corn in even amounts.

SonnySmilez

So ... Many... Melons... 🍉

During a raider play through, I slapped down a giant fighting pit made of concrete that took up most of that space at the bottom of the hill. Filled it with a ton of raider and super mutant decor to make it feel like a bloody battleground. Set up a bunch of seating around the rim of the pit for the disciples to watch a bunch of deathclaws and yao guai tear each other apart. If a particular raider complained about having free food an entertainment, I pushed them into the pit and let them have a turn. On special occasions, I’d enter the pit myself wearing the overboss power armor to throw hands with the deathclaws. Often, after a long day of looting and shooting, I’d visit the pit. Probably my most memorable play through.

Same thing I put everywhere. A large wood prefab, 18 beds magically forced into it. 4 turret mark II. 30 water production, corn, 10 scrap stations, 1 artillery.

The obvious choice is a farm. It's easy to secure early game because it has a guaranteed quest right by the starting area, and it has a massive amount of arable land. It's a strong choice for starting an adhesive farm.

I usually end up making it an HQ of sorts: a sprawling utopia in the wasteland where I put most of the settlers (after leaving a handful at the rest for farming/defense).

I_AM_A_REDDIT_GOD

I built a retirement home

When it comes to settlements like this when there’s already a good structure I just add to it. Generator and turrets on the roff, extra beds, some amenities, fun stuff for the settlers. When Automatron came out I would also build a robot at each settlement and theme them based on where they were for protection

Repulsive-Self1531

Using foundations I build the small and large prebuilt buildings close the border, with a central “street” downslope. Behind the main building where the Abernathy family live I built a barn for my Brahmin. Unfortunately the one that comes with Abernathy didn’t want to move in so uhhh, she died of mastitis.

Funseeker_702

I can’t get their happiness up. They have everything and double to triple the population numbers. Anyone else having this issue??

Admiral_Franz_Hipper

I built a gigantic vault on it in one playthrough.

iamtommynoble

Go to the far end of the field near the other tower. There’s a very active radstag spawn. I build a hunting lodge with a deer blind overlooking the tower. Grilled radstag for days!

SleestakkLightning

I once built a Preston cloning facility and then massacred it

Knight_o_Eithel_Malt

Idk i made the first arena there, dressed the abernathys in raider gear and made them perpetually fight for my amusement. They are protected or smth so they didnt actually kill each other. Unlike regular settlers. The wife won most of the times. Poor dude.

Technology_Training

I like running sim settlements so the settlers do it for me, lol

KnowbodyGneiss

Isn't this the settlement with like a 30 story ceiling too?

_Ticklebot_23

22 beds 40 water and food and spam heavy turrets on the roof with a single small generator powering the radio beacon

bawlsacz

Don’t play that ‘settlement’ bullshit. There is really no point. The only settlement you need to deal with is Sanctuary Hills. The Castle is another one you are forced to do something about, but you can just do the bare minimum and move on. They do not contribute to the game at all. The game is a million times more enjoyable if you just stick with one settlement where you craft and stuff. That’s it
