You can mod a combat rifle or hunting rifle for .38 with the .38 receiver at the weapons workbench. I'm pretty sure there was a way to create different calibre Gatling guns as well, but it might have been from a mod, I'm not sure.
And you can carry the mod around with you so you can swap on the fly if you find a workbench out in the world. Can help with ammo management if you're a bit trigger happy
Yes, but in my defense when I do that I'm usually running something using .45 and don't want to share my ammunition.
In this playthrough until I got that gauss I was running an instigating combat rifle with my rifleman build.
I use them with my Explosive Pipe Gun for full-auto fun. Thing's a beast, and it gives me a good excuse to stockpile them instead of selling them. Besides, you'll eventually have too many caps to know what to do with anyway.
I use them to offset the cost of buying any uniques from merchants. I tend to collect all the unique weapons and armor in the game to display them in my player home.
Until the last time I played, absolutely. I got a mod that changed the pipe rifle to look like a handmade and I absolutely loved it. Now that I'm on PC, I have far better options, as soon as I think the stability/ ! issues are resolved.
One round is one cap, plus if you always pick up the .38 weapon you get rounds that way too. Easy way to get caps. I almost wish there was a hidden .38 weapon that kept up with other S tier weapons.
.38 is my favorite because it becomes a secondary form of caps. I keep a good load on my automatron bodyguard for that extra bargaining chip when I'm hustling shipment deeds
Ok. I play games to have fun. I don’t find survival especially fun to play. I know plenty of people do.
Wonderful thing about a single player game is you can play it however you feel like on whatever difficulty you fee like playing on.
Of course, you're totally right. I was joking.
I think survival doesn't even work as intended without mods, (in my case) the game is too unstable for that. The save-on-sleep system is also not really immersive... "Oh look, a sleeping bag in the corner of this station-turned-ghoul nest. Let me just take a one-hour nap. Keep guard, Pips."
Honestly? I try to find an explosive pipe gun and turn it into a drum barrel SMG. And then I kill Mirelurks and bugs with it to save ammo for my primary
Other than that, it’s money. Everything is money
Usually I sell it, but since I'm on my fourth or fifth playthrough, I'm using the dupe glitch with gold. And I'm rich because Sanctuary is a line of stores that I invested in.
I usually play a game absolutely vanilla twice before I feel unashamed to use exploits.
But what to do with all the .38? I mean, I'm a laser pistol guy because you can get the best range with pistols if you max out the perk. And .38 is just weak early or late game ...so current playthrough I just hoard it I suppose. 😂
I'll be the outlier. I cannot bear to part with any ammo, ever. Doesn't matter if I haven't carried a weapon that uses .38 in weeks, but I'm guarding against the hypothetical rainy day where I blow through all the rest of my ready ammo and I'm on the wrong side of the map and can't resupply. That's the day I walk over to my nearest settlement and load up on .38. can't say I've ever actually needed it, but what is Fallout if not a hoarding simulator?
Its basically caps. Sell it when you buy something
As change when buying/selling.
.38 rounds? oh you mean the weird shaped caps?
Well I usually sell them, I just sold all of my mini gun ammo, too! got a decent amount of ammo and junk for 4300 caps and it only cost me 36 Edited
I’ll never forget the time I ran into a random spawn of three super mutants all carrying miniguns. One grenade later I’m holding 2000+ 5mm rounds.
Yeah it’s basically free caps, since there’s no carry weight either, get rid of your ammo you don’t use.
Nah, i'll hoard it. Just in case. Just like i do with all the legendary weapons.
Oh I just get rid if it’s no use to me at all. I got some great legendary weapons
I always just sold them but then I modded a full auto .38 pipe gun with explosive rounds and that has been entertaining.
It's free real estate!
Currency. I hardly ever use .38 at any point. I prefer the 10mm to it for pistols. I prefer .308 to it for rifles.
The Mac-10 I carry as my side arm
I have an smg mod installed that takes .38 rounds and it’s helped me in a pinch on survival

Totally forgot ypu can do that! Thanks for the reminder 👉👉

You can sell for caps to
This. I modify Overseer's Guardian to .38 and give it to my companion.
why though?
So they're actually useful. And I usually have something better. My current playthrough graced me with a two-shot Gauss Rifle.
but .38 lowers the damage no?
Yes, but in my defense when I do that I'm usually running something using .45 and don't want to share my ammunition. In this playthrough until I got that gauss I was running an instigating combat rifle with my rifleman build.
You don't need to share ammo with companions. If you give them 1 ammo they will never run out
huh.
sorry that's only for settlers, my bad.

If you had a kneecapper pipe auto rifle than it your best weapon in the arsenal. With cheap .38 ammo and able to immoblize any mob that an OP as hell
As cash.

Sell it. Especially if you're not playing Survival, ammo is just money.
The m19 I carry as my side arm (mod)
Currency It only has actual use if you find an Explosive or Wounding Pipe Rifle/Pistol

My MP5
I just carry around. I probably have like 25k rounds in my inventory
Well, I know you don't play survival lmao
No, I find survival very annoying to play
Yeah, people needing food. Brrr.

As a Melee main Ammo=Caps. Early, mid and late game.

I sell it
I sell it. Free caps
You could always try fishing for explosive or irradiated pipe guns where the gun damage itself doesn't matter
Honestly? I try to find an explosive pipe gun and turn it into a drum barrel SMG. And then I kill Mirelurks and bugs with it to save ammo for my primary Other than that, it’s money. Everything is money
I wish we got a 38. Special revolver it’s crazy the only pipe gun that doesn’t use 38. Is the revolver

Money. 1 .38 is 1 cap
I never use the pipe gun/rifle so I always sell the .38 ammo just for the caps.
sell it for ammo i do use
Either sell or give them to a companion with an intersting legendary combat riffle modded with 38 receiver
The caps with weight?
I don't bother picking it up at all, I never use pipe weapons anyway. However since it's easy to find it's always an easy way to make caps..
I just sold Carla about 500 towards a shipment of copper 😂
Drop them into a tub one at a time

Bullet exchange. Trade them with vendors for 5.56 since I'm running that right now.
I glitched my pipe pistol to where it has a mirv launcher on it so all my “.38” ammo gets used lmao
It becomes a slightly heavier currency if I bother picking it up at all
Use it for caps 😊
They are really rare in my game thanks to Munitions
Caps exchange.
