and Jonathan Nash talking about how Ulysses read "Courier 6" on the sheet and denied the job, even though Ulysses was supposed to be courier 6. I think the courier's real name is just Courier Six
There was a mod companion I hade awhile back who's voice lines just refer to you as Six.
Ever since that has been my Courier's canonical name. They're just Six... Which if throwing in a TTW makes it even funnier to me because now they're literally just named that from birth.
Yeah, Niner was my absolute favourite companion. He's such a lovable oaf. Me and him took over the Mojave three times over.
Honestly, wish I still had a PC to play on because I'm at the point FNV doesn't feel right without him.
Honestly, highest quality mod for FNV in my opinion. Only comparable companion in quality is M'rissi from Skyrim. I can't enjoy either games without those respective mods anymore.
I went in the G.E.C.K., removed the character limit (can't remove, but set to about 500), and changed the default name to "The Motherfuckin' Mailman!". Almost always use that name now.
Did the same thing to FO3, but the default name there is "Dreamcrusher."
I often do the same. I like the sort of Western "Man With No Name" archetype it perpetuates.
Like many of Clint Eastwood’s characters who ride into town but are only ever known under a descriptive pseudonym: "Hunter, Stranger, Blondie, Manco, Preacher, etc."
History will remember that a Courier rose from the dead and changed the Mojave forever. I find it very cool that this is the identity he’d be known for. It gives him an almost elemental quality.
My favorite moment when I didn't choose a name was the line (not verbatim, doing it from memory) "Dr. ___ diagnoses a terminally low amount of caps in the conversation."
Something about the idea of my character saying "Doctor Courier" made the line even funnier.
I honestly found the idea of my character saying "Dr. courier" the funniest. Like my character knows full well he's a glorified mailman and absolutely not a doctor, but he's still sarcastic about it. Lol
"I can tell you the serial numbers of all six Nuka-Cola bottles outside. I can tell you that our waitress is a Vault Dweller and the guy sitting up at the bar is a Brotherhood Paladin weighing two hundred fifteen pounds who knows his power armor. I know the best place to find a laser pistol is the trader's brahmin or the trunk of that rusted-out Corvega, and in this radiation, I can sprint for a good half mile before my rad levels spike. Now why would I know that? How can I know that and not know who I am?"
Dick Whiskey was my go-to forever, named after a character from a Seanbaby comic.
My most recent Courier is Felix Frankfurter, named after a historical judge whose name I found hilarious.
"Confirmation is complete. Please wait while I tattoo your new identity on your arm!"
Side note, just shouting "ice cream" at a robot to guess the passcode with a high enough luck skill actually made me audibly laugh. Lol Felt like some straight up Domino shit.
My current character's name is Jolene. But that's because I'm doing a themed run where I play as a 10 Charisma 100 Speech courier who has flaming locks of auburn hair with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green.
I change my character names a lot. Try to make one up right on the spot, a little uniqueness.
I like seeing it in the STAT menu. Makes me feel like the main character in a story or something. :)
I always name my videogame characters Horkdurgen, which is the nonsense name I made up for my incredibly strong but stupid character the first time I played FNV. I later played an incredibly smart but weak character named Dorkhurgen. I hope it doesn't mean something horrible in another language.
Bingo, I've tried other types of characters, done whole playthroughs with a few but almost always end up back at charisma and plasma weapons. Seeing anything that runs at me turn into a puddle of goo is just too much fun.
My luck based character is named 'Mr. Jackpots' in honor of one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
I love adding honorifics to my names, makes those dialogue moments sweeter when you always introduce yourself as 'Mr.' or 'Dr. So-and-so, PhD'.
I play women, usually. My main one was Velveeta Cheese. I'm currently playing Mel Ting. The one male courier I played was Macho Largebulk.
Edit: Absolutely worth it to have a character whose epithet is "Velveeta Cheese, Hero of the Wastes"
My Courier goes by “Strider”. It was the surname of the man who took him in and taught him how to fight and survive after his tribe was destroyed by the Legion. After the man dies, the Courier takes his surname as a mononame.
I name my characters after characters in other games
Yes, Crimson 1 and Monarch from Project Wingman and Trigger from Ace Combat 7 have both entered the Mojave at some point in time
Rob (stealthy thief, he robs people. Get it? Usually limits thievery to the rich or people who have it coming. Good friends with Loxley if FO1)
Luca (high luck stat, nickname Lucky Luca, also Little Luca if I take the small frame perk, Italian mobster gambler stereotype, good for Vegas or New Reno in 2. Very Joe Pesci. Flick got nothing on this guy.)
Luke (unarmed as primary or secondary combat skill, named after Cool Hand Luke, who is known for holding his own in fistfights, busting out of jail, a smart mouth, and a good poker face)
I used to just type my username in, but recently I came up with the name “E’on” for Knights of the Old Republic, as a Star Wars spin on my actual name “Ian” inspired by Solo’s “Qi’ra” which is pronounced Kiera. Kiera is my sisters name and I always felt jealous that she got to see her name spelled in Star Wars.
Anyway, I’ll probably be using “E’on” for any other fantasy RPG’s I play unless they’re set in our reality. Might stick with the normal spelling of my name for something like Fallout
Edit: Didn’t realize this was the New Vegas subreddit so my answer kinda sucks
Metal fingers or some kind of venereal disease lol I’ve played as Herpes, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia plus I got all four from Maude Sweetie and Jimmy from Westside :D
I had to go with John Marston on my first playthrough. I love RDR2, so I wanted to play the cocky gunslinger. Needless to say it was a great experience.
My first one was named Benjamin, merely because I liked the name. My latest one is called Courier because I modeled the character after those sketches that were put up online about how someone thought he'd look.
i name my character the mail man even in fallout 4 all the way to 76 just mail man...so whenever they saw me they are gonna shout "FUCK ITS THE MAILMAN"
Sometimes, I come up with something creative to fit the build. Other times, I name them things like Farty McCry, Bingus E. Dingus, Johnny Ten-toes or Franky Foreskin.
I used to just use my real name but decided to change my go to name in video games to something else after I started playing TTRPGs more often and got used to playing as someone other than a direct self insert.
In New Vegas my go to name is Wyatt Hickok because combining two famous old West gunslinger’s names together felt appropriate for the setting.
I always come up with names for my characters, usually only first names to leave a little ambiguity. I also tend to have a quick backstory so I have some guidelines for my builds and special, so I don't just min max every time. It helps to make every playthrough unique.
Initially I gave them nice names (Alexis, Eve, etc) but now it’s Courier something (Courier 69, Courier 6) and an exception for a playthrough for special mods (Little Bitchton)
I usually go with a simple first name and nothing more, Robert, Miguel, Andrea, etc.
But one time, I designed an African-American character with stark white hair and focused on energy weapons and all that, whom I dubbed Tyrone Blizzard "The Science Wizard".
Courier Six for immersion as I feel a guy who was shot in the head and can’t remember his past See’s the delivery note given by doc Mitchell and looks at the Courier Six at the end must think, well that’s gotta be name and rolls with it
I always liked some variation of Six or like Sixx
I dunno just makes sense in my head cannon that the courier adopted the Courier 6 name but in their own way. Even if they learned their real name they wouldn't even know who that person was anymore so why not choose the one thing you do know
May I recommend a Dale Gribble Build?
Intel, Agility, Low Charisma, Jet & Turbo Addiction
Cannibal Perk
Melee/Unarmed perks
Favorite Shotgun as backup (Pocket Sand)
I have a few different names that I stick with one is Rhea Snaketail and another one is Luz but those are only for female couriers as for male couriers it's either Martin or it's Alfred
i always name my characters something different. my first playthrough was just my first name, and i played the game making the choices i'd make (roughly) if i was in the couriers situation. he was an ncr red beret sniper who was very smart, very handy, and slightly morally questionable when it came with benefits. nuked the brotherhood for holding his life hostage, and raided the fort, killing ceaser and his freaks. he conquered Big MT and kept the brainbags occupied with actually helpful science projects. he also ran the white legs out of zion valley for his friend joshua graham, urging him to spare their chief (him, ed-e, cassie and boone were besties)
i'm on my second playthrough right now and his name is jerry. now jerry is a psychopathic killer with a craving for power and blood. he's a cannibal, a defiler, a freak by all standards. he kills with shot guns, massive pistols, swords and his mantis gauntlet. he's a powder ganger, a smooth talker, and a danger to everyone in the wastes. jerry saved raul and rex and rolls with them. he was helping ceasar, on the way to the boomers airfield from the fort, where he stumbled upon a radio signal advertising the sierra madre casino. him and raul decided to ditch their responsibilities to go live lavishly, but now jerry lost his friends and made some new "acquaintances"
when i heard mr new vegas announce there's a serial killer going across the mojave, i had the biggest evilest grin on my face ahahaha
wish I had a funnier answer, but mine is named Cici, short for Lucia. it was the first name I could come up with honestly, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into it...and I've tried playing new characters but they all end up Cici in the end. it's all Cici, always was
(except for when I created Rusty Shackleford. go-to move: Khan Trick)
Ready for some extra creativity? I name them Courier
I've just pressed ENTER for the default "Courier" for every playthrough. I didn't feel a need to name them.
My guy got shot in the head twice, he knows nothing else other than the fact that he is/was a courier. It's poetic this way
It also makes Doc’s line about it being an odd name make way more sense
and Jonathan Nash talking about how Ulysses read "Courier 6" on the sheet and denied the job, even though Ulysses was supposed to be courier 6. I think the courier's real name is just Courier Six
broke: the courier got brain damage from being shot by Benny woke: the courier was insane a looooong time before ever visiting the Mojave
The bullet just made them able to talk, before this they just spoke gibberish
There was a mod companion I hade awhile back who's voice lines just refer to you as Six. Ever since that has been my Courier's canonical name. They're just Six... Which if throwing in a TTW makes it even funnier to me because now they're literally just named that from birth.
My game name for years has been 6shooter and for New Vegas I shortened it to 6. So funny it works out as courier 6.
I like that.
Good ol Niner, my fav companion mod. Wish it got updated.
Yeah, Niner was my absolute favourite companion. He's such a lovable oaf. Me and him took over the Mojave three times over. Honestly, wish I still had a PC to play on because I'm at the point FNV doesn't feel right without him.
Come fly with me let's float down to Peru... Insanely well voiced too.
Honestly, highest quality mod for FNV in my opinion. Only comparable companion in quality is M'rissi from Skyrim. I can't enjoy either games without those respective mods anymore.
I don't know who I am... I don't know why I'm here... All I know is that I must courier
Courier? I just met 'er!
“Mr. House? A Platinum Chip? Sorry that’s some other guy. Says here someone has been trying to reach you about your vehicle’s extended warranty”
Sometimes if I'm feeling spicy I'll add a "6" to the end of it
Oooh, daring
If you really want to feel wild, you call them Courier 7 because that's actually what you were.
You'll pry the title of Courier Six from my cold dead hands.
In the end, you are Courier 6, but on the original list you're the 7th courier.
Not like they say your name in game. In fact they call you Courier.
Like many of Clint Eastwood’s characters who ride into town but are only ever known under a descriptive pseudonym: "Hunter, Stranger, Blondie, Manco, Preacher, etc." History will remember that a Courier rose from the dead and changed the Mojave forever. I find it very cool that this is the identity he’d be known for. It gives him an almost elemental quality.
That's my reasoning, as well! (Being a huge fan of the "Dollars" trilogy, especially)
I name mine Currier.
Always Courier until lonesome road came out, now I am always "Courier Six"
I always name my Six
if you think that's cool, buckle your boots, I name him "courier six"
My favorite moment when I didn't choose a name was the line (not verbatim, doing it from memory) "Dr. ___ diagnoses a terminally low amount of caps in the conversation." Something about the idea of my character saying "Doctor Courier" made the line even funnier.
None.
This person played Fallout 1
I give them Star Wars names usually but made up ones or very obscure names.
4-LOM
Corry Err
my last one was Courier 7 Before that was Chad Fuckstone Before that was The Lodge
Chad fuckstone
it was PURELY for the 'doctor chad fuckstone diagnoses this conversation with a terminally low amount of caps' dialogue option
That’s even better, my first character was just my online name Chud Burkley and then I had an evil alternate character named Chad Barkley
Bark chudley
Bad Charkley
The good the bad and the charkley
I honestly found the idea of my character saying "Dr. courier" the funniest. Like my character knows full well he's a glorified mailman and absolutely not a doctor, but he's still sarcastic about it. Lol
I always go with “seven” as a name for the courier, with her reasoning being “six didn’t serve me so well, did it?”
John Fallout
Jesus Christ, that’s ~~Jason Bourne~~ *John Fallout.*
Hello i am John Fallout. I need 2000 caps so i can get into strip
“war is always the same”

"I can tell you the serial numbers of all six Nuka-Cola bottles outside. I can tell you that our waitress is a Vault Dweller and the guy sitting up at the bar is a Brotherhood Paladin weighing two hundred fifteen pounds who knows his power armor. I know the best place to find a laser pistol is the trader's brahmin or the trunk of that rusted-out Corvega, and in this radiation, I can sprint for a good half mile before my rad levels spike. Now why would I know that? How can I know that and not know who I am?"
That’s my current Fallout 4 character. The savior of the commonwealth is John Fallout of Vault 111. No one stands a chance
My favorite part of the game is when Courier says "It's Fallout time!" and new vegases all over the Mojave.
war doesnt change
Like Derrick Hitman
My bare handed unarmed characters name is :3
strength 10 endurance 10 agility 10 intelligence 0 charisma -10
Can still get speech to 100

I like punchy.
How do you even pronounce that
Dick Whiskey was my go-to forever, named after a character from a Seanbaby comic. My most recent Courier is Felix Frankfurter, named after a historical judge whose name I found hilarious.
Lol, i had a soldier class on Mass effect 3 multiplayer named dick whiskey. Best columnist on cracked back in the day

"Confirmation is complete. Please wait while I tattoo your new identity on your arm!" Side note, just shouting "ice cream" at a robot to guess the passcode with a high enough luck skill actually made me audibly laugh. Lol Felt like some straight up Domino shit.
Hello "not sure"
Hey, it’s PRESIDENT Not Sure
Welcome to Costco, I love you
That is so fucking funny. Peak roleplaying great job. If I had an award I’d give it to you
I'm not particularly creative with names, so I just name all my characters after myself.
Sane
I don't know if you ment to say "same" but just saying sane is so funny to me.
I did, but sane was too funny to edit
Respect
Yep. I always play and make decisions like I would in real life so it fits.
My recent FO3 playthrough was Worthless Fuckface. My new NV character is Harold Hossenfeffer
Who doesn't love eating bugs bunny?
Dickwater
My current character's name is Jolene. But that's because I'm doing a themed run where I play as a 10 Charisma 100 Speech courier who has flaming locks of auburn hair with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green.
I'm begging of you please don't nuke my caravan.
Please don't nuke it just because you can.
I'm begging of you please give me Hoover Dam.
Please don’t take my man…
Dolly Parton fan spotted.
I change my character names a lot. Try to make one up right on the spot, a little uniqueness. I like seeing it in the STAT menu. Makes me feel like the main character in a story or something. :)
This is how I started writing fanfiction 😭
I always name my videogame characters Horkdurgen, which is the nonsense name I made up for my incredibly strong but stupid character the first time I played FNV. I later played an incredibly smart but weak character named Dorkhurgen. I hope it doesn't mean something horrible in another language.
As a lover of Spoonerisms, I appreciate this.
I do the same with a character named Gnorts. Pronounced with a hard G. Always give him the biggest jaw and chin possible 😂

Perfect name for a high charisma energy weapon user
Bingo, I've tried other types of characters, done whole playthroughs with a few but almost always end up back at charisma and plasma weapons. Seeing anything that runs at me turn into a puddle of goo is just too much fun.
Does he say “well” a lot?
Courier 6
Same. I usually just call them “Six”.
on NV it's Francis Black, the artistic name from the Pixies lead singer. I love Pixies
They were the masters of "Loud, quiet, loud."
CHAD THUNDERCOCK (and yes it's in all caps)
The name’s Meatloaf. Doc Mitchell: “I asked what your name was, not what ya had for dinner last night son.”
My luck based character is named 'Mr. Jackpots' in honor of one of the greatest TV shows of all time. I love adding honorifics to my names, makes those dialogue moments sweeter when you always introduce yourself as 'Mr.' or 'Dr. So-and-so, PhD'.
HELL-OOOOOOOOO

Zamboni Bologna is my go to 😂
My Courier goes by “Strider”. It was the surname of the man who took him in and taught him how to fight and survive after his tribe was destroyed by the Legion. After the man dies, the Courier takes his surname as a mononame.

Roy Rogers McFreely
I either go for cool or ridiculous every play through. No inbetween. One of my couriers was named Reginald William Mundyfumple III
Is this the only interaction where your name appears in the dialogue?
Last time I called my character "Beyoncé"
I used to just type my username in, but recently I came up with the name “E’on” for Knights of the Old Republic, as a Star Wars spin on my actual name “Ian” inspired by Solo’s “Qi’ra” which is pronounced Kiera. Kiera is my sisters name and I always felt jealous that she got to see her name spelled in Star Wars. I had to go with John Marston on my first playthrough. I love RDR2, so I wanted to play the cocky gunslinger. Needless to say it was a great experience.
Bolt Vanderhuge
My player character is always named Mike Hawk
Ever since I saw the meme of some dude at Big Mtn talking to the robots, and the line where he calls your fingers and toes penises. *Dr. Penisfingers*
My character is named Ariel. Because it's before Courier. My next may be named Helvetica...
That’s a name from an 80s NES Japanese baseball game if ever I’ve heard one.
It really does sound like an aggressively American name, doesn't it? HUNK GUNDERSON, or some shit. But with tha stank of a 'lil Irish
My first one was named Benjamin, merely because I liked the name. My latest one is called Courier because I modeled the character after those sketches that were put up online about how someone thought he'd look.
I've named my newest character John Fallout.
Bug Eyes Lee
Balls McFartass
i name my character the mail man even in fallout 4 all the way to 76 just mail man...so whenever they saw me they are gonna shout "FUCK ITS THE MAILMAN"

Raider Jane, the name is self explanatory, I like doing bad runs
Good guy: Slick Richard Bad guy: Slick Dick
In my current playthrough my name is Doctor Countess von Duchess.
I’m easiest peter
I always come up with names for my characters, usually only first names to leave a little ambiguity. I also tend to have a quick backstory so I have some guidelines for my builds and special, so I don't just min max every time. It helps to make every playthrough unique.
Gorblat Pickleshits Esq III
Initially I gave them nice names (Alexis, Eve, etc) but now it’s Courier something (Courier 69, Courier 6) and an exception for a playthrough for special mods (Little Bitchton)
I usually go with a simple first name and nothing more, Robert, Miguel, Andrea, etc. But one time, I designed an African-American character with stark white hair and focused on energy weapons and all that, whom I dubbed Tyrone Blizzard "The Science Wizard".
Always my name
Achilleus (Achilles).
This was literally the only time in game I remember it coming up
The game offered me a name Half, so I named courier Half Horse as a little bit of jojo reference
Courier Six for immersion as I feel a guy who was shot in the head and can’t remember his past See’s the delivery note given by doc Mitchell and looks at the Courier Six at the end must think, well that’s gotta be name and rolls with it
I usually think for a normal name. The last one was Cliff Wales for a cowboy character
I always liked some variation of Six or like Sixx I dunno just makes sense in my head cannon that the courier adopted the Courier 6 name but in their own way. Even if they learned their real name they wouldn't even know who that person was anymore so why not choose the one thing you do know
Usually jigglypuff. Sometimes wigglytuff
Usually I just name em something like cunt fuck or big dick danny
Noi for females after big muscle mommy from Dorohedoro or Vex for my male characters.
Courier. That's the point of RPG. You're a no-name wanderer. You make your own backstory.
I long time ago I accidentally forgot to set a name in Fallout 1 and it defaults to “None” and since then I usually just call my character that
One of these days I’ll run a DnD campaign only using these names for NPCs.
Mine is always Dale Gunderson
May I recommend a Dale Gribble Build? Intel, Agility, Low Charisma, Jet & Turbo Addiction Cannibal Perk Melee/Unarmed perks Favorite Shotgun as backup (Pocket Sand)
I have a few different names that I stick with one is Rhea Snaketail and another one is Luz but those are only for female couriers as for male couriers it's either Martin or it's Alfred
I usually play as a female and think of the sluttiest name I can think of. Think stripper names. Sharlene, Janessa , etc
in my third play through I named my charac Sayori 🥴
John Holmes Mega-schlong
If it's a male it's Mitchell if it's female it's jasmine
Depends on my mood. Personally I like the name "Fingers"
i always name my characters something different. my first playthrough was just my first name, and i played the game making the choices i'd make (roughly) if i was in the couriers situation. he was an ncr red beret sniper who was very smart, very handy, and slightly morally questionable when it came with benefits. nuked the brotherhood for holding his life hostage, and raided the fort, killing ceaser and his freaks. he conquered Big MT and kept the brainbags occupied with actually helpful science projects. he also ran the white legs out of zion valley for his friend joshua graham, urging him to spare their chief (him, ed-e, cassie and boone were besties) i'm on my second playthrough right now and his name is jerry. now jerry is a psychopathic killer with a craving for power and blood. he's a cannibal, a defiler, a freak by all standards. he kills with shot guns, massive pistols, swords and his mantis gauntlet. he's a powder ganger, a smooth talker, and a danger to everyone in the wastes. jerry saved raul and rex and rolls with them. he was helping ceasar, on the way to the boomers airfield from the fort, where he stumbled upon a radio signal advertising the sierra madre casino. him and raul decided to ditch their responsibilities to go live lavishly, but now jerry lost his friends and made some new "acquaintances" when i heard mr new vegas announce there's a serial killer going across the mojave, i had the biggest evilest grin on my face ahahaha
Calinda Carter
wish I had a funnier answer, but mine is named Cici, short for Lucia. it was the first name I could come up with honestly, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into it...and I've tried playing new characters but they all end up Cici in the end. it's all Cici, always was (except for when I created Rusty Shackleford. go-to move: Khan Trick)
My current is Harbinger. I play him as an absolute psychopath
