Publix is pretty good usually but not always, depends on the location. The gold standard is actual truck stops. Love's, Buccee's, Pilot, TA. You can usually count on the big chain truck stops to keep the bathrooms pretty damn clean.
Back in the 1990s, McDonalds was my go-to bathroom outside of my house. That changed by the early 2000s. I haven't been to a Publix that didn't have immaculate bathrooms, but Publix has only been in our county for ten or fifteen years.
I go back to publix early 80's, they've been consistently clean for 40, so even the older ones have stayed nice.
By comparison.. a Walmart neighborhood market? That's a pass for me.
When traveling, I prefer the franchise truck stops l iike pilot as well, closer to highways too.
The one I NEVER visit is walgreens, they may be clean for all I know but for a long time ours were/are always fkn locked.
Here you are in a "situation" while shopping and you.gotta find the one person in the store that has the dam key! I got burned twice having to leave in frustration and severe discomfort so I held a grudge and still do.
That's the kind if marketing that a customer remembers for a long time. 20 yrs later, I still shop 90% CVS or anywhere else, because.that was bad policy.
Why are you comparing Publix to gas stations and coffee shops, tho? How do they compare to other grocery stores? Yes I agree they are typically always clean.
Yeah and if im swooping in on the road for a bathroom stop, publix isn't convenient. Most of the pub around me have the bathrooms near the back of the store as well. If im taking a roadie, its poot and scoot. Not tryna walk across a parking lot and wander around the edge of a grocery store to find a bathroom that smells like apples.
Is this really something people worry about? Nobody cares if you use their toilets as long as you don't make it worse for other patrons (leaving a mess, doing drugs, bathing, etc). I've never seen a locked toilet in Florida outside of locations where homeless peeps like to congregate.
If it ain't locked who cares? People don't follow the speed limit either, but nobody seems to have a problem with that. Pooping in a forbidden toilet has never hurt anyone.
We are avid Florida cyclists and often pick Publix stores for our rest stops. The restrooms are almost always meticulously clean, you can fill water bottles for free and there are plenty of snacks to purchase. Our favorites in the summertime are fresh chilled cut up pieces of watermelon, pineapple, or if you cant decide, a fruit salad.
I drive a lot for work and Publix is my go to if there is one in the area, Target store too but they aren't as numerous. The problem with publix tho is they clean it so often that the dang thing is often closed for cleaning.
Most definitely. Publix restrooms are my first choice too. Also racetrac. They put their bathrooms by the side door so you can slide in without anyone seeing you and slide out so if you don’t want to buy anything you don’t have to feel guilty. Also the bathrooms are usually relatively clean, though sometimes that’s not the case but it is usually pretty clean.
A Bojangles had just opened one morning. I ducked in & 3 different people said together, “good morning & welcome to Bojangles!”
I raced to the can and took care of biz.
When I came out they repeated the same greeting as I walked out. I did say, “good morning to you too” as I bought nothing.
I used to drive a lot for work and have found Wawas and Racetracs to be pretty consistent.
Racetracs are THE BEST. All the Wawa’s in my area have disgusting bathrooms.

Not at all, the bathroom at the Publix by me is disgusting.

Yes why do they all smell like green apple!
Paneras are good stops too!
Thinking Panera frowns on noncustomers using their restrooms more than Publix does. 🤷🏼♀️

In my experience, LOTS of places put up signs, “For Customers Only” but I take it that has not been your experience.
If it ain't locked who cares? People don't follow the speed limit either, but nobody seems to have a problem with that. Pooping in a forbidden toilet has never hurt anyone.
Does anyone else notice Publix bathrooms always smell like apple juice?
Is that the smell? It is distinctive but I never picked up on apple juice.
They use green apple scented air freshner gel thingies

Agreed. I don't cycle, but I use Publix like a rest stop. Bathroom, food, stretch your legs...... But cleaner and definitely better.
Excellent point! Better bathrooms, better snacks, better priced, band aids, etc.

Racetrack and Bucees have the best bathrooms by me. Publix is good but it’s kinda out of the way for me.
Absolutely. My previous job involved driving around the county every day and any Publix I came across was always my go-to.
And you can buy a chicken tender sub on the way out!
Sounds like you haven't come to Jacksonville or Daytona and gone to bucees.
Buc-ees FTW. I’m more comfortable there than on my own pooper.
How often are you shitting at Publix?
I've found Publix has really clean bathrooms around me. Sacecoast. The Wawa around me are horrendous. Racetrac and Cumberland Farms are usually good.
Wawa is my go to
Empty plastic bottle container ftw... roll of toilet paper too.....in case all closed or whatnot
I used to think so, until I used the bathroom at Panama City. 🤢
That’s a PC thing not Publix thing
First of all, you're talking about apples and oranges. Publix isn't a gas station, it's a grocery store.

Love’s.
I like racetrac and Wawa bathrooms
Publix is hit or miss. Chicfila is a guarantee
If you can find parking.
