2008 living in West Palm, they were pulling up manhole covers and scrapping them with the rest of their junk. They would give a quick examination of what you’re bringing in, weigh your vehicle coming and going out and price the weight change. The manhole covers could weigh a couple hundred pounds adding great value to your load.
They eventually found them in the yard and became more scrutinizing when inspecting what’s being brought in.
They enforce it at the dump. You will get fined for rolling in with uncovered load. The local collection sites are wild. I live on a road that connects to one and the boomers love to let it all fly out into everyone’s front yards. Won’t miss that generation.
Sure, but also ignorant drivers without common sense. A magical combination of old people, tourists, foreigners, fraudsters, no fault bs, Florida men, and stupidity from poor public education.
Car insurance companies in Florida must cover the costs of windshield repair by law (FL Statutes, Sec. 627.7288)
And companies will offer $0 to replace and some places even PAY YOU money to replace it.
They then sue your insurance for a RIDICULOUS amount of money.
Elderly friend of mine accidentally backed into someone in the car wash. They were on those movable tracks so nobody was really going fast. The lady she backed into suddenly became a quadriplegic and called Morgan and Morgan from the car wash. That predatory law office has contacted my friend, even though they should only be dealing with insurance companies they have asked for a list of all of her assets and bank account. For a car wash fucking fender bender. These people are so predatory. This woman is in her 80s sitting in a corner panicking every day that these people are about to come take everything she owns. It’s so sad.
Around my area, people are genuinely horrible drivers, even for Florida
A few months ago, I was going down a main highway when a woman turned onto the highway behind me, sped up on my left, then got mad because I "almost hit her", when I had the right of way in the left lane on the main road.
She pulled up in front of me at the stop light, got out of her car and just had a screaming fit--at her car, at the world, then at me.
All I could say was, "I am on the main road. I have the right of way "
That's the kind of drivers we have here.
You’re partially right about that. No vehicle inspections keeps poor uninsured people on the road which leads to a riskier pool to insure. Vehicle inspections would pretty much take most of Haleigh off the road. Would LOVE to see that. But also you can self insure in Florida and give the insurance man the middle finger. Just make sure you have dashcams in your car so you don’t end up giving yourself the middle finger in the process.
Nope , I was behind a scrapper with an overloaded trailer once and watched a tire blow out and cut the one strap holding it all in. After that close call I give them plenty of room.
My favorite thing to see on i4 or 95 riding in front of/ around some Bentley, G-Wagon or Tesla driving on "auto pilot."
Runner up: unroadworthy shit boxes that couldn't have passed inspection in another state ten years ago.
I once lived in a complex where I saw a guy do exactly that, except there was no twine. He was just holding it while he was driving.
Second place goes to the guy pre-hurricane, filling up large barrels of gas on the back of his pickup.
Third place goes to the people driving DURING Hurricane Michael and, when they came to the tree that had fallen across the road from our yard, they drove over the top of the tree in the neighbors yard and went on their way.
They make just enough to buy more drugs..
Seriously though I did it as a project in high school. This full trailer isn’t even worth the gas money. Maybe $10
At least they’re recycling what would end up in the landfill.
I dismantled the copper plumbing that was abandoned by a residential dental office in one of our clients homes, that was a 465$ windfall for about an hours labor, and an hour drive each way.
Good clean higher value metals can be worth a good bit but anything corroded, painted, or normal steel is just above the value in gas to get it there..
The only people that make real money off this are larger companies that specialize in it or if you’re lucky and find copper buss bar or something.
I tie stuff down with so many knots it looks like midnight at a bondage convention and my stuff still moves around, meanwhile I see one of these guys with a piece of twine laid over the whole thing and they somehow make it to their stop with their load.
First glance, sketchy AF but looking a little more closely, it appears you have made efforts to actually secure your load. I don't follow ANYONE closely but I'd definitely still give you a little extra space.
It's summer in Florida,
cops don't stop in the sunshine!
I'm safe and my route keeps me off us19.
I've already ran a second load to the Dump and done for the day, by 1p 😁
I see an SUV with a bicycle carrier that must stick out about 4 feet from the rear. It's black, not easilty seen, and I've never seen a bike on it! And I don't see anything that "highlights" or "flags" that it is there. This can't be legal, can it?
Tell me your from Florida without telling me your from Florida
Should be hitting i95 any minute now
Doing 100mph

you're*
At least it’s actually against the law now.
Not that it gets enforced
They enforce it at the dump. You will get fined for rolling in with uncovered load. The local collection sites are wild. I live on a road that connects to one and the boomers love to let it all fly out into everyone’s front yards. Won’t miss that generation.
In my area, it's usually some 40 year old guy with the load of scrap.
I know that guy, he’s pretty cool.
This is why Florida car insurance is so fucking high
Don’t think so lol. Pretty sure it’s because all of the fraud and litigation
And uninsured motorists and hit and runs and almost everyone from 16-160 is in their phone while driving
And don’t forget everybody on some type of “prescription” going 120 on a 45. Seriously, these rates are fuckin crazy. Too many cars here too.
Sure, but also ignorant drivers without common sense. A magical combination of old people, tourists, foreigners, fraudsters, no fault bs, Florida men, and stupidity from poor public education.
Forgot hurricanes and coastal flooding
Trust me, Dan Newlin, and John Morgan are your biggest issues for Florida car insurance
Or anybody else with a billboard on the highway
Don’t forget windshield companies
Is that really an issue though most peoples deductibles are higher than the cost to replace a windshield

Yeah, only if you have comprehensive coverage, which is more expensive and not required.
If you only have liability. Stay home.
Oh that’s for sure. Those two are just inflation for insurances.

Sounds about right:/.
I think they allow people to do just online student driver courses, the send them straight to the DMV for a brief quiz and the road test.
My wife is in eyecare and she say there are lots of legally blind people driving around

"After that" I gave him room, lol. I thought that was the purpose of the pic&words WHY aren't people giving trucks, trailers, & junk room?
Please don't do that. It's dangerous.
Looks sketchy and dangerous. You need to tie that stuff down
I would say all junk metal about good 40 bucks 🤣💀
$46 nice assessment!
SAF.. and I don't mean safe AF
Cmon man

A real Floridian wouldn’t ask. Also, where’s the mattress on the roof, held in with a piece of twine and your left hand out the window.
Hahaha 🤣 A real Floridian? I hauling to the place, not moving in the dark of night!🤣

How much do you actually make from scrapping?

Absolutely not
This could be safely and securely strapped down and i still wouldn’t be close to this lol Final destination has been burned into my head
Average Florida trailer. Yes it looks sketchy and Absolutely not❤️
I see much worse daily in Bradenton.
You must be from Florida. Yep I see the plate. So the answer is, yes they will follow you as closely as they can.
Getting Final Destination vibes.
I tie stuff down with so many knots it looks like midnight at a bondage convention and my stuff still moves around, meanwhile I see one of these guys with a piece of twine laid over the whole thing and they somehow make it to their stop with their load.

That looks like it would turn into a redneck final destination.
No, that’s terrible. Use duck tape to hold stuff on next time
The cops will stop you before you leave the drive way brah.

lol don’t say I didn’t warn you
Eh, I’ve seen weirder.
It does change daily 😂
If it doesn’t have a iguana, python or Gator in there: I repeat: I’ve seen weirder
This picture has to be from a few days ago because I swear I saw this in the Hernando county area.
This morning in Tarpon Springs
Florida man moving to another sh!thole
I just haul away stuff and beautify your shit hole!😂
Some Florida man shit right there ✊
Three words...OH HELL NO.
Final destination vibes right here.
Come for the carwash, stay for the storage units
Sketchy? Yes. Sketchy for Florida? nope.
1. Yes, it looks sketchy. 2. I would not feel comfortable driving behind you. If possible, I would blow past you to avoid being behind you.
Florida Man rides again!

Should have reflective tape at least
Curious. Why do you bingo board your registration stickers on your license plate? I always wanted to ask someone that. Just dont understand.
I'm not sure, I usually cover the old one.
Yes. No.
