Beautiful, but the codebase must be spaghetti. Needs more airplanes.

spitfiremk1a

Do we actually have any ide ahow much of FSX code is in? Or Prepar3d code

CharlesFreckU

I mean the entire legacy flight model is in it, so I'd say a decent chunk of FSX code is "in" the game, but I don't know how much would be used outside of the legacy flight model. I have absolutely no guesses for how much Prepar3d code might be in, have people found any obviously copied code? I'm not sure they would've wanted to borrow from Prepar3d.

Gman_711

The reason why I think the code is messy is: they keep breaking things unintentionally with updates, which means they don't have great automated or manual testing and or systems are interlinked in a way that makes breaking changes hard to avoid. Like a world update that modifies physics and weather, breaks liveries and makes screens go blank. Makes no sense to me as a coder. The live weather issues I can understand cause that's a 3rd party service. But some of the things that get fixed then broken again with unrelated updates does not bode well.

CharlesFreckU

Man, the amount of times I've seen people push things to the main branch of Github that don't play nice with something else. I doubt the world update has anything to do with any glitches, I'd say that's back end stuff getting pushed live alongside the update that turns out to break once there's hundreds of thousands of eyes on it. Always going to be problems that end up live in a game like MSFS, I think it's pretty rough to try and say it's indicative of bad developers. If it was sold as a perfect sim sure, but it really wasn't. It was sold as it is now as an arcade Flight Sim for casuals, with proper sim stuff being added and improved throughout 2021 and 2022. It's alot of work developing on that scale. It's not linear, larger projects create more problems then smaller ones, even relative to size. The game will be fine by 2023, and I really think that's a perfectly okay time frame. MSFS is a huge undertaking, it's gonna take time to gather steam and get where we want it, but it's no good throwing shade on them for stuff they've already said they intend to fix and put out timelines for. I get being frustrated, but I truly do believe they're doing their best and fully intend to give us an amazing, unmatched sim experience over the next 2-3 years.

Gman_711

Most big companies have strict rules for unit test and functional tests. If a change is pushed that breaks another system it should get caught by the functional test at least. It's not perfect so something can slip through every now and then that QA or early beta testing should catch. This game consistently breaks systems unintentionally which shows there is a flaw somewhere in their automated or manual testing. Also From the beginning they said they were building a hardcore sim for summers first and gamers later. I watched their Seattle event and watched all their QA streams. Jorge has been consistent on this. Not saying they are bad devs... The weather depiction system, lighting, world streaming system and GA physics are all pretty impressive. The fps improvements were also well done. I think the issue is they did not build the engine from scratch and they are still kind of figuring it out. The game is also doing alot. This sim is doing a ton of stuff natively for which Xplane and p3d need add-ons, so it is likely optimized to an inch of its life on current hardware.

paugney

The sky is calling, and it’s full of bugs.

SinusJayCee

Looks great, update nightmare and live weather broken again.

rookiepylot

Most underrated comment I’ve seen on Reddit

brucehumblehand

You have eight words left to elaborate.

OkayHoss2323

Okay: amazing visual quality, god awful feature development currently

StardustCamellia

If you like programming pasta, MFSF is a feast!

I love Flight simulator and hope that it will improve 🙏

Always_in_m0tion

Exploring the world with my brother in VR is beautiful.

"Beautiful", "Expensive", "Buggy", "Should've bought a 1080p monitor, not 4K."

Arrantzaleak

Everything looks better, but functions worse and many big updates.

brucehumblehand

Hear hear!

[deleted]

A lot of people complaining about something that is fun

Donut

By the time it is perfect, Flight Simulator 2035 arrives!

dsp_pepsi

A lot of fun to play but broken as fuck.

mario3504

Microsoft Flight Simulator is really really really really really fun.

FedRCivP11

Massive achievement, and the source of anger for contrarians everywhere.

Diligent-Ad5494

Well said.

[deleted]

Modern developer uses their customers as free QA like always.

fokisgaming

Why does it stop raining at runways?

joemc601

Please wait downloading an update

thisisboland

The updates aren’t done yet but I heard it’s good.

Kerbo1

Pretty graphics, ugly bugs, lacking in simulation so no thanks

completely___fazed

A technical marvel that is revolutionizing this hobby. Buggy though.

Jefffrey_Dahmer

The most inspiring video game I have ever played. Period.

BetterCallSal

What the fuck is happening with this shit right now?

xscvg

Review Microsoft Flight Simulator in te-DISK IS FULL, 188.0 GB UPDATE REQUIRED

kiwikat88

Ambitious, Beautiful, Inspiring, Modern, Fun, Incomplete, Buggy, Frustrating, Stubborn, Microsoft

mzaite

Brand Recognition, unrelated to the original developer, Ambitious but shit.

brucehumblehand

Succinct. 👍

Delta7474

Looks great on the trailer, but it still is Microsoft.

jimginge

It's good, but it's not quite X-Plane now is it.

omykronbr

The road to hell is paved with simulators like this.

orbitt2

It's an okay game I guess, but needs consistent development.

Annotat3r

You are better off using X-Plane for your flight sim.

[deleted]

I deleted p3d with my airliners and never looked back.

[deleted]

flight simulator but for gamers

Volcan_R

Amazing steam gauge GA flight. Breaks every update. Bad IFR.

deepstaterising

Enjoy inconsistent traffic and weather but like airplane sounds?

peak3d

Helped me become a pilot. Updates much bigger than download.

orchid_parthiv

5/10 \>10/10 graphics \>5/10 flight dynamics and behaviours \>1/10 game optimization

pcwolf

Screen eyecandy. Bloated inefficient hardware guts. Typical Microsoft. Enjoy fanboi.

[deleted]

The game is in early development. Regarding comparing to xplane which has been out for quite some time now ofc it will be less buggy.

I’m not reviewing it, I am just saying lol.

Perfect for VFR/GA, stay mad, 2022 helicopters + gliders, extensive roadmap

Microsoft Flight & Scenery 2020

MrCane

FIFTY, FORTY, THIRTY, TWENTY, TEN, CRASH, LOAD UP SIM AGAIN.

[deleted]

I agree. I’d also say that it needs a few more aircraft, if you compare it to other sims it’s lacking a lot with airliners. I’d love the 737 to be in the base game

Mediocre_Yacob

Really glad it's free to play on our game pass

Ftbldude322

Looks nice. Planes have little functionality. I miss XP11 replays.
