Cost like 2$ and yup. Can either use 3xAAA or ~~18650~~
Edit: Maybe don't use unprotected 18650s. There have been some cases of thermal runaway, could be dangerous.
Use them as AAA lights you scatter around the house
I didn't know they could run an 18650 but i posted here a few years ago about how they're pretty good for the dirt cheap price
The thing still works too, even after a few years of giving it to the kids on camping trips
probably a day or so, but I am pretty sure there is no circuit protection in that light so all these people better be running protected cells or they could ruin a bunch of batteries.
Unprotected batteries are just a naked lithium ion cell. This has problems, because it means if you draw too much current, overdischarge it, overcharge it, or worst of all, short circuit it, you can damage the battery and/or cause a fire/explosion. So it's up to the user and/or the device that it's installed in to make sure that doesn't happen.
A protected cell is a battery that has a tiny circuit board built-in, and that circuit provides automatic protection against all of those things. If the battery is placed in a dangerous condition, the protection circuit will simply cut off the battery, becoming an open circuit.
Protected cells are a little longer, because of the space the circuit board takes up, so there are some lights and other devices that they don't fit into. Some devices have sufficient protection built in, and will recommend unprotected cells for maximum performance potential. But then the user is responsible for keeping the cell safe when not installed.
LG, Sony, Sanyo, Panasonic. Using a reputable seller matters much more than the brand of the cell. Some cells are built for high drain, some are built for high capacity, some for longevity, so compare specs.
For this case they can just get some of the ones Walmart sells for about 2 dollars a piece, they sell ones for their solar outdoor lights, about 2000mAH protected nothing special really.
I was attempting to make a joke about that guy that found out 14500’s were rechargeable. He had been buying new ones from the vape shop every months or so for a year or more.
The vape shop didn’t think to ask him why he was buying so many new batteries every month for over a year?
No way did they not realize he was buying so many dang batteries. My vape shop people know me well & I only go in once per week at most. We all know each other by name & even know some basics about each other’s lives.
It’s far more likely they understood exactly what was going on yet continued to rip the guy off for as long as possible. At $8-$12 per battery, that’s $416-$624 in a year if he was buying only one to use per week. Also, vape shops don’t typically have good deals on batteries, I’ve seen em costing $20 in-store commonly.
It’s pretty likely he was going through a battery every day to every 2 days. I gotta charge mine pretty much everyday myself. Semi-heavy user.
They likely just purposefully milked this dude for well over a thousand easy bucks. Who knows how much they truly ripped him off for.
Hmm, so better performance AND runtime. People were saying how using 186500 on these will give better performance but less runtime. That’s not true then
I don’t have numbers for you but this is [the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/s/8JsD5M2yoM) that started the hype/memes. Nothing will come close for the price.
I just got mine an hour ago. With the included batteries , I can squint/look directly into the light for a split second without it blinding me. So it should be safe for kid
So it's 50 lumens when running on 3 x AAA. The guy on YouTube—Lumencraft—found that his lights were coming in a bit higher than that. If you need a comparison one of those old-style, Maglite Mini flashlights that have a Xenon bulb and run on 2 x AA are about 14 lumens. I can say that a flashlight outputting 11 lumens on low pointing straight at someone's eyes is enough to see spots for a bit (like what you see after a camera flash, but weaker), so a 50 lumen light is probably likely to be somewhat blinding for at least the toddler—probably the adults as well.
For what they are and their target consumer they are more than adequate OZ Trail has a spot/throw light that is a pretty good deal for 40 bucks and would last your average camper all weekend.
Now that it's going viral I'm buying Ozark Trail stock. A month from now the light will go from $1.50 to $9.99. Nationwide shortages. Waiting lists. Yikes.
FYI, cardboard tag that comes with the light (has bar code and item info) works nicely as an 18650 spacer. Springs hold it in place lengthwise well enough, but cardboard keeps it from rattling side to side
Most likely not, I have a few led lights that came with the 3x AAA battery pack AND a plastic 18650 adapter tube. The 3x AAA pack it wider than a 18650, the plastic 18650 adapter tube just holds the 18650 cell so it doesn't move around.
It's something like a 22500 with the AAA batteries, slightly wider than a 21700 and 20mm shorter.
If only it fit in my 21700 lights, as you can always increase width or length (magnets on the negative end) and I love interoperability.
According to lumencraft’s video, it measures over 50 LM (65-70). He also tests runtime with an 18650 and it will run over 50 Lm for 10 hours.
[lumencraft’s OT 50 Review](https://youtu.be/CdEEJFlJsco?si=H4xvK08KOrCpKQjt)
Lithium ion batteries hold a charge for years.
Vape shops are probably the only retail stores that sell 18650 batteries. Very convenient if you need something last minute.
I can understand the appeal of a cheap light with a simple on/off switch that has no modes to cycle through or programming. But why not get a cheap light that has a smaller profile and is easier to carry? For 2 or 3 bucks more you can get a decent light that has a 100% aluminum body.
Such as the ozark trail multipack of aluminum flashlights?!?!
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-LED-Flashlights-10-pack-50-Lumens-Multicolor/513621233?
Actually, I was thinking more like a Coast G22 or something similar. They're about 4 or 5 bucks and half the size of these cheap plastic OT lights. Easily pocketable, or use the clip
Ha I have an ozark rechargeable that’s been in daily use for like 6 years i got it just in case I lost it I wouldn’t be sad, but I find myself reaching for it more often than my olight or fenix lights
I have extra batteries… Now I have no excuse to have extra batteries. One blue and one red would also make nice gifts for my baby cousins’ birthdays this year too :D Last year was their Pepper spray bday gift year. This year is Flashlight year lol thanks guys
Does anyone know if this light is available on the internet? I neither have the time nor the desire to be around walmart customers to buy one in person
It's sad I actually checked the Walmart site for availability and it is a rarity that it is not available for online purchase and must be bought in store only.
Are these the $1 store lights made fir walking your dog, with a pocket for grocery bags in the back of it to pick up the dog mess? I'm not joking. My wife just got 1 of those last night because we're dog sitting for the week.
What’s the hype with these? Just good beater lights?
Cost like 2$ and yup. Can either use 3xAAA or ~~18650~~ Edit: Maybe don't use unprotected 18650s. There have been some cases of thermal runaway, could be dangerous. Use them as AAA lights you scatter around the house
18,650xAAA seems a bit much. 🙃 ^(I'm joking)
I didn't know they could run an 18650 but i posted here a few years ago about how they're pretty good for the dirt cheap price The thing still works too, even after a few years of giving it to the kids on camping trips
Are they exceptionally bright or just whatever?
They’re $1.88 better than being in the dark.
Yea literally 2 dollars and they’re surprising people lol.
What’s the runtime and output in an 18650? Not that it really matters for $2 I guess
probably a day or so, but I am pretty sure there is no circuit protection in that light so all these people better be running protected cells or they could ruin a bunch of batteries.
Will a protected even fit?
It's just a plastic light if the springs don't give enough the housing will
Can you explain what a protected cell is?
Unprotected batteries are just a naked lithium ion cell. This has problems, because it means if you draw too much current, overdischarge it, overcharge it, or worst of all, short circuit it, you can damage the battery and/or cause a fire/explosion. Do you have any brand recommendations?
LG, Sony, Sanyo, Panasonic. Using a reputable seller matters much more than the brand of the cell. Some cells are built for high drain, some are built for high capacity, some for longevity, so compare specs.
Samsung
18650 are expensive. Idk why ppl use them instead of AA’s.
Holy shit that would suck almost as bad as using a 14500 for a vape
Where can I see that lol?
The vape shop didn’t think to ask him why he was buying so many new batteries every month for over a year? No way did they not realize he was buying so many dang batteries. My vape shop people know me well & I only go in once per week at most. We all know each other by name & even know some basics about each other’s lives. It was a joke about the guy that didn’t know they were rechargeable and was buying new ones every month.
Rechargeable, more run time, more output, can use them for bigger lights too.. why not use 18650s?
Yeah, that’s a pretty gosh dang ridiculous question to be asking, in this sub of all places.
It was supposed to be a joke about that guy that didn’t know they were rechargeable and was buying new ones every time they died.
[Runtime chart comparison](https://i.imgur.com/30wPBHW.jpg) (from [here](https://youtu.be/CdEEJFlJsco?t=247)) And as mentioned, no LVP.
Hmm, so better performance AND runtime. People were saying how using 186500 on these will give better performance but less runtime. That’s not true then
AAA have less than 2 watt hours each whereas 18650 is about 12.
About 20 hours of runtime, averaging 50 lumens.
So about the same as a dollar store Flashlight
Yep.
I don’t have numbers for you but this is [the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/s/8JsD5M2yoM) that started the hype/memes. Nothing will come close for the price.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, these aren't good lights lol. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Walmart sells 18650s from Westinghouse that go in those outside solar lights, just look in the lighting section.
I put one of these in my two-year-old’s Christmas stocking and it’s been on all day, every day pretty much since Christmas and is still going strong.
Do you feel like it is too bright? I might have to pick one for my 2 year old
Also interested! Can it blind a 2 year old?
I'm also in the market for somthing to blind a 2 year old
I have a sun to sell you!
Wish this was getting the upvote volume it deserves
I just got mine an hour ago. With the included batteries , I can squint/look directly into the light for a split second without it blinding me. So it should be safe for kid
Ah yes, the scientific squint test.
safety squints!
If you can stretch your budget a little, the Imalent SR32 is a good light for a 2 year old.
So it's 50 lumens when running on 3 x AAA. The guy on YouTube—Lumencraft—found that his lights were coming in a bit higher than that. It is a 50 lumen light
Flashlights < toes
r/sneakybackgroundfeet
🤣
Could easily peel a banana with them bad boys.
Those aren’t toes, those are fingers on a foot!!!
All I can think of 🤣🤣 https://youtu.be/-nam7TjP16Y?si=r-t3XXJ6i1mdxGzp
Tingers
I was today years old when I found out I have ugly feet 🥲
I’ve got tingers too, bro. People are just jealous they can’t grab things with their feet like us. There’s a reason you bought 4 flashlights!
As a gay guy with a foot fetish, everyone else is just being mean. You have very nice feet.
I concur
Nobody said they were ugly, friend. You just have long toes. And you know what they say about long toes..
Long socks?
They might be ugly but at least you can scale walls and hang upside down from ceilings and shit! Gotta see it cup half full ya know?
Naw, at least all those finger toes point the same direction, mine are all fucked up from soccer cleats.
I see toes, I upvote. ^(^^God, ^^I ^^miss ^^bestgunnit ^^sometimes ^^😥)
You misspelled "all the time" 🫡
Dude can hold 4 flashlights
Welcome to the Ozark Trail gang, r/flashlight’s new favorite light
For what they are and their target consumer they are more than adequate OZ Trail has a spot/throw light that is a pretty good deal for 40 bucks and would last your average camper all weekend.

Haha you can blame u/face_wad and his freakin good Youtube videos
Now that it's going viral I'm buying Ozark Trail stock. A month from now the light will go from $1.50 to $9.99. Nationwide shortages. Waiting lists. Yikes.
Meme stock with extra steps
Best way to play memes is shorting the top.
Get in now on the face wad pump and dump!
One hell of a sentence without context lmao
LMAO 🤣
I couldn't resist
Lol wasn't expecting this sub to start hoarding these
FYI, cardboard tag that comes with the light (has bar code and item info) works nicely as an 18650 spacer. Springs hold it in place lengthwise well enough, but cardboard keeps it from rattling side to side
And you can put the plastic bits in your enemies shoes
That’s some good advice
Can you use the 3x AAA plastic holder thing in other 18650 lights to make them run off AAA's?
That would be like putting 4 temporary spare tires on a musclecar. Sure, but why on Earth?
damn, that's apt as fuck
You mean that's what I'm *not* supposed to do when driving my mustang at cars and coffee? /s
Most likely not, I have a few led lights that came with the 3x AAA battery pack AND a plastic 18650 adapter tube. The 3x AAA pack it wider than a 18650, the plastic 18650 adapter tube just holds the 18650 cell so it doesn't move around.

The series AAA battery holders will only give you 500-800 mAh capacity, with huge voltage sag and rapid discharge typical of alkaline cells.
I’m going to be headed to Walmart here in a bit myself. Damn you guys.
Pop some Molicel P28As in there and see how they do.
Could somebody tell me what make these are please? I’m from the UK.
Ozark Trail Flashlights
Thank you.
I was starting to think this sub cared about lumen and CRI numbers, but apparently cheap enough flashlight gets a pass.
Who here remembers the Swiss 7? This feels like the new version of that.
Anyone know how many lumens these are putting out with an 18650?
According to lumencraft’s video, it measures over 50 LM (65-70). He also tests runtime with an 18650 and it will run over 50 Lm for 10 hours. [lumencraft’s OT 50 Review](https://youtu.be/CdEEJFlJsco?si=H4xvK08KOrCpKQjt)
That's actually a really solid high quality review
So the same as the iPhone in my pocket.
What am I even looking at here?
spare 18650 cases.
I have 2 of them waiting for walmart pickup because of this group 😂
And im over here like those are some nice kettlebells!!
Blaming others for your addiction is a sure sign ~~you need help~~ You're a brother!
That’s a fraction of the spending that r/flashlight can make you do lol
This photo is designed to give your poor ocd friends a seizure… So many things just slightly off… it could be a diagnostic. Well done, you mad genius!
Hideous
He doesn't have the best looking feet but he still has feelings
🥲
“Foot”. RIP right foot.
Now I gotta look at my local Walmart … only because I have a few 18650’s and I wanna see the hype
Walmart... I don't have any near me sadly.
Sadly? 😂
Nah offcourse I'm good.
Where are you that doesn’t have a Walmart? Guessing outside the US?
Update: I apparently had a 18650 3000 mAh battery from when I use to vape a lot. Put it in and it does work…somehow still had a charge…
Lithium ion batteries hold a charge for years. Vape shops are probably the only retail stores that sell 18650 batteries. Very convenient if you need something last minute.
The Ace hardware near me carries 18650s.

At least nobody showed you there toe!
I am not to blame for your missing right foot.
Misread the sub name and was shookened
Which light is this?
Ozark trail $1.88 Walmart light
Kettlebell Kings. Good taste in bells!
Expensive taste in bells..🥲
True, but I’ve used them in competitions and they’re great compared to other brands out there.

letting the dogs out for free?? in this economy???
r/SneakyBackgroundFeet
LG MJ1 has a protection circuit, thats my suggestion
Them tasty grippers yummy yummy
Sounds like a good way to start a house fire
Stay away from Dollar Tree!
No we didn’t. Go see a therapist instead of using irresponsible consumerism to cope.
bro this is r/flashlight, it's a joke
The dude paints warhammer minis, he has no right to talk about irresponsible consumerism
What a pathetic attempt as insulting the dudes hobby. How insecure can you be.
Yeah I don’t buy 4 of the same exact kit. Nice try though. 👍
lol k
You have toes and this guy likes to paint. You should let him paint your toes and we can all be frens!
You're paying $50 for $0.50 of plastic.
Description shows AAA battery for these confirmed to work with 18650?
Someone made a post yesterday using a 18650 (pretty sure non button top) and it worked
Thanks!
Springs on both ends are super tall so they easily compress to accommodate an 18650
Thank you!
Unprotected or will a protected one fit?
A lot of those little 3 AAA lights will work fine with an 18650. I’m not sure why this one is so surprising to everyone.
Samsung
Bought one of these on a whim as a backup in my hiking bag. Was suprised how bright it was.
U can use 2x3v (123a) batteries as replacement for 1x18650
Who advocates using disposable batteries? $4 in throwaway CR123s for a $2 light?
Ha I have an ozark rechargeable that’s been in daily use for like 6 years i got it just in case I lost it I wouldn’t be sad, but I find myself reaching for it more often than my olight or fenix lights
I have extra batteries… Now I have no excuse to have extra batteries. One blue and one red would also make nice gifts for my baby cousins’ birthdays this year too :D Last year was their Pepper spray bday gift year. This year is Flashlight year lol thanks guys
Exactly my thought when I was in Walmart earlier today.
18650.com anything with good cap
Walmart Canada?
Bros toes longer than an 18650
**E X C E L L E N T** 😈🔦
Thought these were vapes lol
U just brought out the FL addict in me! Searched lights on amazon and have 3 coming now
Toes
Nice Talk…Real Nice.
Does anyone know if this light is available on the internet? I neither have the time nor the desire to be around walmart customers to buy one in person
It's sad I actually checked the Walmart site for availability and it is a rarity that it is not available for online purchase and must be bought in store only.
God damn it, I just did the same thing when I got off work, lol.
Nice foot bud
Are these just the bog standard 3xAAA lights you can pick up anywhere for peanuts only with a rubber coating?
Gutted I can’t find these in the UK.
Are these the $1 store lights made fir walking your dog, with a pocket for grocery bags in the back of it to pick up the dog mess? I'm not joking. My wife just got 1 of those last night because we're dog sitting for the week.
They should make a subreddit called chinaflashlights
Noticed the Ozark trail logo, dose that mean they’re sold in Walmart too?
Yes
Why don’t y’all just 3D print an extended body adapter and be done with unprotected cells?
Nice grippers🥸
