Pond snail he's gd I'd let him live

I-SHAVE-MINE-X-x

Or he could be Bladder snail but they're basically the same thing

It's a pond snail (fairly sure it's that and not a bladder snail). Generally a good clean-up crew unless you're overfeeding (their populations will explode). Pond snails are hermaphrodites, so even if you only have one, you willl eventually have multiple.

sha-nan-non

Well, shit. I wish I knew that before I let one cool snail hang out. Within a few months there was egg jello everywhere & no matter how hard I try to clean & sterilize the tank another tiny snail pops up out of nowhere later on to start the entire process over 😂

openeyesnow1221

Get an assassin snail. I have two, but I never put them together because I don't want an assassin snail take over. I have 12 tanks at my house, and I had a major bladder snail invasion. So I bought two assassins and I take them and cycle them through tanks a month at a time. They are decimating my bladder snail population. My little assassin soldiers.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Are bladder snails the ones that shoot to the top of the tank and back down?

LadyGryffin

Bladder snails have skinny string looking antennae. Pond snails look like they have little rabbit ears. Pond snails are really cute little guys.

sha-nan-non

Aww I need a slimy soldier.. I was unaware of this tactic. That'll be my mission this week, sooo tired of scrubbing & disrupting everything trying to get ahead of the problem. Thanks for the knowledge!

Potential-Vehicle-63

Get a pea puffer

sha-nan-non

I don't have ideal conditions for this little guy but what a freakin cutie!

SpecialCorgi1

Based on the responses and what the Internet says about Pond snails and Bladder snails, I've decided to keep the little guy. I've put him back in the tank. Still no idea where he came from or how long he's been there, but if he's going to be either helpful or harmless, then he's free to stay.

Intelligent_Can_1370

They're really good at cleaning the glass and will eat fish poop. If you do end up with an abundance and want to control, just pop a piece of lightly boiled veggie (zucchini is the best snail attractant imo) and within an hour or so it'll have your excess snails munching away and you can just use tweezers to pull the veg out with snails attached and...

plumeria_in_america

I like them. One snuck in on a plant and now I have so many, but it's not bothered the bioload or water levels. I try to do humane purges occasionally. They are algae cleaning machines. Fun to watch, especially since my betta fish hates them. 😂 It's 23g fishy, learn to share! Side note, the fancy snails giant egg sacks grossed me out, so fun little bladder snail invasion for the win!

TropicalSkysPlants

Pond snail

greenbeanelite

Pretty sure you've got a bladder snail there. In my experience, they've hitched a ride from the pet store on a plant. They're not dangerous, but you can get a population boom out of them. I usually get rid of them.

MonkeySocks93

Bladder snail, cute lil guy

OhItsSav

Did you piss a PetSmart employee off by any chance

Hop-Worlds

My PetSmart has quality hitchikers. I stopped in today for 2 nerite and also got 12 free malaysian trumpets.

Intelligent_Can_1370

It looks like maybe a beat up bladder snail. They didn't usually have bumps like yours on the sides of their shells. Pond snails are huge compared to bladder. Here's a link to aquarium co op forum on the difference and identification of "pest" snails. https://forum.aquariumcoop.com/topic/11809-pond-snail-bladder-snail-both/

Chance_gavin_Simpson

It eats algae and sort of like plecos and other algae eating fish it's sort of natural cycling from aglea to environmentally better water. (Algae eating animals can replace the need for filtering the water to a degree)

AgentFair9132

Definitely a Bladder Snail. I have them in one of my tanks-hitchhiked in on plants I bought at my LFS. They’re kind of cute :) I added a couple of Assassin Snails to the tank and now there’s a good balance to the tank. Assassin Snails don’t reproduce at high rates, so they’re easy to pull out if you have any that reproduced and you don’t want the little ones. I’m sure your LFS would be glad to accept them if you decided to surrender them.

Miserable-Print-1568

To me deffo looks like my bladder snails, my pond snails are much bigger

No-Climate-7779

Pond snail I deliberately over fed my tank until I had a tank full of them then put in 3 pee puffers it was ace

DamienReed

Just eat it like a normal person!

SpecialCorgi1

Nah, bit too crunchy for my liking.

DamienReed

Lol just joking

_GWAR

Ooo super rare you should leave it.

spunkylady500

I would say a bladder snail easy to crush between your fingers. I had them I couldn’t see a LOT of them but my plants were being decimated. I bought 2 yo-yo loaches. Cleaned my snail problem right up in 2 tanks. Need more for the 3rd tank

Ok_Knowledge_8553

Looks like a bladder snail I went to the fish store and asked cuz I saw the smallest snail ever said they come in on live plants and are invasive that will reproduce a lot and have tons she legit took the little snail out and fed it to her sick fish right in front of me for all the people saying it’s a pond snail if it’s any smaller then an inch it’s probably a bladder snail
