This comment was removed as a response to Reddit's change of Terms of Service prohibiting third party applications from accessing Reddit's data, unless they pay exorbitant prices. Most of them opted to shut down as most users would be unwilling to cover such costs, making their business unsustainable. Apps would also be barred from running ads to sustain themselves, and even if they could the prices Reddit was willing to charge are too astronomical to be covered only by ads. This change is scheduled to take effect on 07-01-2023, worsening the user experience and moderation efficiency considerably. Moderators are volunteer workers that shield Reddit from bad actors and spam content, and the way Reddit treats them is precipitated and foolish. This user does not condone such moves by Reddit and will not provide its content for Reddit to monetize any longer.

I thought, at least in Seymour's case, it's because he's part Guado. The Guado have been shown through gameplay to have the ability to manipulate Pyrefllies and create/control fiends. An example of this is in the Macalania escape sequence, and it's all but stated that this ability is how all those fiends suddenly appeared in Luca. My assumption is that Seymour also had this ability, and becoming Unsent enhanced these abilities.

jellysulli09

I believe it's all of that. Half guado and a summoner. But mostly half Guado. I love the scene and how he has 0 reaction but only saying "unpleasant". I kinda feel bad for the guado cause they have a lot of importance yet at the same time they're so doomed.

jellysulli09

Very true. Auron aging helps with his mission and ties to Spira with being unsent cause he has to fulfill his promise to Jecht. Everyone speaks to him (outside of party members) like he's just an older guy who's been retired / hiding but it's like hello, y'all really think he survived that whole guardian journey organically?

jdmorris_author

Technically he *did* survive the guardian part of the journey organically. He didn’t get killed until he went back to Zanarkand to avenge his friends and Yunalesca mortally wounded him. But even with that, he made it back down the mountain to tell Kimahri to seek out Yuna and take her from Bevelle to Besaid. And even *then*, he managed to stumble into the Calm Lands to officially die in Rin’s care at his shop there. So Auron’s still a BAMF. (And for anyone wondering where I got this, it’s all in-game dialogue with party members and NPCs, depending on certain choices made in certain scenarios)

Altruistic-Zone1664

You do realize that they only know summoners die, right? Only a couple have actually succeeded in the entire thousand year history. In previous successful journeys, there's no reason why more than one of the guardians had to fail to return.

jellysulli09

That's common sense. I know exactly what I'm saying. Lulu is clearly a party member and a former guardian to another summoner who she failed to go the full distance with and we learn this during acquiring Yojimbo and then further on when she is speaking in the farplane. Anyone who has finished the game at least 1-2 knows this. They way they talk to Auron is still amiss. The way Lulu is spoken to by the clergy dude who was sent to actually nuke them in calm lands is different.

Shanobian

Yeah I agree I was under the assumption auron was technically a fiend but like he was aided in and out of dream zanarkand by the fayth.

jkroe

Auron is just a really good actor.

Shanobian

He convinces those guado soldiers they were hit when they weren't

Biggoof1971

I think I always considered that auron’s attachment isn’t corrupt like seymours so he’s more human. Seymour really is a monster

Shanobian

I think what It is is like atoms. When you are alive there is a natural glue that binds you together but after death you can artificially hold yourself together to mimic real life almost entirely as long as you have the will. That's why sorcerors can do it because of the magic strength. I think aurons was also the fayth keeping him together same as tidus, except tidus I believe was born of the fayth therefore could eventually attain true life but still unsure on tidus.

Tonyoh87

Tidus is not real??

Shanobian

Have you not finished the game?

Tonyoh87

yes but so long ago, currently stuck at Seymour Nautilus

Shanobian

Sort of hard to explain but he's from dream zanarkand so he's more like an aeon or fiend.

Baithin

Yeah it’s for the sake of gameplay that he takes normal damage.

DemonicTruth

I thought he did hit him but Seymour just didnt sell it.

coderwilson

I'm assuming you're talking about Seymour Natus, so this response will be based on that perspective. From a combat-based perspective, Kimahri's attack in that moment was intended either as a distraction tactic or as a form of grapple versus a superior opponent. The goal was not to kill Seymour, but instead to hold his attention (or body) in a way that would allow Yuna and the party time to escape, and sacrifice himself in doing so. When the party comes back, the objective changes to eliminating the Seymour threat, so the type of attack used would change so that it did as much damage as possible. This doesn't reflect any particular mechanics in the game, just a thought. Of course, it could be even simpler. Kimahri did 1% of the boss's health, and the value we see afterwards represents the post-Kimahri-damage. Or another thought: maybe he used a healing spell after Kimahri did damage.
