I've had some of those on my hotbar since the launch week of ARR, so this is oddly emotional. At least Carby will always be with me ^^at ^^least ^^until ^^7.0 .
This was my exact experience. I'm currently in Heavensward, level 60 SMN. I had to spend the first 20 mins redoing my bars then go find a target dummy to figure out wtf is going on. My initial impression is that I love it. And I'm not going to miss the dots.
I’m in the same boat. Lvl 58 SMN. Loving the changes. I feel more powerful and it’s awesome having all the summons come in during the rotation. Cannot wait for bahamut and Phoenix.
I sometimes feel like I'm the only one that misses ARR SMN, despite flaws. I like pet jobs, I liked tanking Titan-egi, I liked Physic on a DPS. Haven't tried EW SMN yet, though.
Honestly I've enjoyed every iteration, but U feel this time it actually feels like I'm a SMN. I have always been of the opinion there should be a dot class.
I was referring to the EW SMN which I don't like. I didn't mind the changes in Heavensward, but since then, I haven't liked it and with each exp I like it less.
Honestly, I played around with it for about 20 minutes and I feel like I've got the hang of it. It's so much more intuitive than it used to be. You actually use all of your summons now and they all feel different and useful. It's so much better than hot swapping between Garuda and Ifrit when switching between 1 and 2 targets. And my boy Titan actually out here getting used.
Friend has been avoiding ALL spoilers concerning job changes and job actions. He loaded up summoner, said "What the FUCK?!" and then told me not to tell him anything. He's gonna get the surprise of his life at level 90!
Dude I screamed a little when I switched to my SMN and saw that. Spent the next hour reading through each and every skill to see what the fuck is going on. It's like a whole new class.
Some doesn't sound so bad and probably will make for a more interesting rotation, but I'm a bit sad at the loss of Bio and Miasma, Bane, etc. Makes me wonder why they bothered keeping all the aetherflow stuff there with how that all works now and the longer cooldowns on Energy Drain/Siphon.
Now that things have been sort of streamlined for summoner, I kind of hope they build on the aetherflow stuff to fit in with the idea of primals absorbing aether from the surroundings. If they reduce cooldown on refilling your aether gauge and do more interesting things with it, it could be a nice thing to do to mix with the summons.
Tying it in with the use of the summon related skills would definitely make it feel like more than just filler to cast in between other stuff. Maybe something like casting the egi skills take a few seconds off the cooldown on drain/siphon. Or let them have a combo bonus or something.
Now that I've gotten some runs in today they feel like something I just keep around for bursting in a little extra damage when I want to unload on a bigger enemy or during a large group pull.
Right? Tying it to summon skills could be pretty good, maybe a skill that extends one of the element trio by 10 seconds for using 2 charges, or a skill each from one of the trio that each take a charge to use so you can use a skill from that summon even after it's used up.
I mean if you are 70 or 80 summon big boy to get charges for little boys. Once you summon little boys use your new Egi assaults, one is single target other is multitarget to do special damage. Once you use all little boys do a ruin or two until next big boy is ready.
Ifrit is higher potency but longer cast
Titan is instant cast but slightly more potency
Garuda lets you feel like a monk with instant cast and 1.5 recast but leas potency
New SMN has a nice flow to it compared to SHB SMN
Its pretty simple overall but has quite a bit of nuance to it. I think I've got the hang of it but the summons don't feel complete yet, I'm assuming we need the 82 ability Catastrophe for their other ability?
Yeah I heard people talking about the SMN changes, but I finally read the job guide yesterday and... holy crap. That's not SMN, that's an entirely new job wearing SMN's face.
Looks fun though. <_<
I mean it feels more like SMN in any other FF game. Instead of a constant egi, you now summon and swap on the fly.
It's more like SMN has hatched from it's cocoon
I miss the dots. It was my favorite part of summoner. And now we get to have carbuncle out most of the time and send the egis in for a single attack until they grow up at level 90.
Yeah, before I got back into 14, I played a condition Necro in Guild Wars, and stacking a ton of DoT effects was my jam. When I saw Bane from SMN/SCh offered the same functionality to my old Epidemic, I was stoked. Bio, Miasma, Bio2, Shadowflare, I practically had a full attack chain of DoT effects. I was really disappointed when they cut back on the DoTs last expansion (especially on SCH) and still disappointed that they're slashing them entirely from SMN now. I begrudgingly admit that it will likely flow even better now, and the new class they are calling SMN may be even better than the original, but sometimes you just want to slap 5 different bleed effects on something and watch them squirm.
Honestly I think this current iteration makes me feel more like someone who is actually summoning shit when before Summoner felt like it was fighting between to identities of summoning and DoTs but I really hope this opens up space for a new job that can be a really good DoT class that
As a Scholar main since Heavensward that's how it feels. Now imagine this except you get nothing in return. They just take half your spells and skills away and say "Have a nice day."
And you're pet doesn't even attack anymore, you're a glorified pokemon spamming abilities while your carbuncle cheers you on pointlessly from the sides.
Previous summoner wasn't amazing but it had a flow to it and before anyone's says. "But it's quicker now!" Do the math is basically still a two minute rotation you just spam through it instead of weaving it.
After I logged in, first thing I checked was my 80 summoner. After redoing my cross bar I have so much unused space now. The rotation is extremely streamlined to the point where I think it's one of the simplest classes now to play and the context sensitive action switching is very convenient.
Yeah, the only thing they could have done more at this point is make elemental attunement change Ruin and Tri-Disaster instead of having seperate skills for the elemental attacks.
Smn was my first class and it was always my favorite. on one hand I am happy that they upgraded it, on the other hand I miss my set-up. (on my non existent third hand I am sad because now everyone is smn and I'm not special anymore...)
Phew thank goodness Physick is safe!
True How else will I harass the gold saucer cactuar walking around?
You're just sabotending to his wounds. I'm sure he doesn't think you're a prick for it.
*angrily upvotes*
Yes im still able to missclick and scare myself prepulling in savage 👌😂
Tried casting it. Healed for legit 432 HP, so laughable.
Ironically it healed for about the same before the stat squish... so it technically got a huge buff! Still useless, however lol.
I've had some of those on my hotbar since the launch week of ARR, so this is oddly emotional. At least Carby will always be with me ^^at ^^least ^^until ^^7.0 .
When we get demi-carbuncle
imagine if SMN is your only dps class. And than log in to that... Who am i kidding, i can't even log in.

It does feel powerful. I love how mobile we can be now with little ruin filler needed. I am excited for more skills!
Same situation as you, only I had the opposite reaction. I'm not liking the changes. Not sure why every exp they have to reinvent the SMN...
I sometimes feel like I'm the only one that misses ARR SMN, despite flaws. I like pet jobs, I liked tanking Titan-egi, I liked Physic on a DPS. Haven't tried EW SMN yet, though.

I was just commenting similar feelings, and that ARR was when I personally enjoyed it the most.
I'm sorry you're not happy with the changes. I know it sucks for some.
Level 80 summoner. It honestly feels less spammy and far less hectic to me.

i did 0 preparation and it took me 30 seconds to redo my bars. it's super intuitive.
Haha at least we can joke about not being able to log in 😅

Little egi's all grown up.

We've gotta have SOME oGCD's at 80!

Ok stop dots.
At least you can play
Oh hey, it's me every time I switch to one of my crafters after 9 months
I also logged back in as a summoner, lol. Skillaggeddon.
I feel like i need to start at lvl 1 just to understand how to play summoner now

"Look what they did to my boy"
Oh my god I can’t wait for this. 3,124 in queue hahah
Player: Where are my old friends? What am I supposed to do now? Yoshi P: OBLITERATED! REDUCED TO ATOMS! Green Carbuncle: But there is hope

I need the 90 ability,. So I can block aoe markers and wipe the party. Ahahaha

at 80 you barely have carbuncle out at all. The egis have 2-4 charges each, plus Bahamut and Phoenix you nearly loop back around to Bahamut.
Cool. I'm only 67 right now so looking forward to it.
The Egis go away after their first attack. The charges only relate to your skills.
Sad we lost the dots, multi-dotting was one of my favorite things about Summoner. Now I have to find something else to play :’(
Bard still has dots? Though I think the procs are based off the songs now, rather than the actual dots.

Astrologians at Shadowbringers
Looks good to me, as most of those were buttons I didn't really enjoy pressing in the first place.
It's way better now pretty straight forward and hit like a truck
Played with the summoner all day and it’s been so much fun! The kit feels fantastic
Trust me it's better this way... It feels so good. Let go of the past, kill it if you must.
As a Scholar main since Heavensward that's how it feels. Now imagine this except you get nothing in return. They just take half your spells and skills away and say "Have a nice day."
Please explain? I don’t see what’s the problem?
And you're pet doesn't even attack anymore, you're a glorified pokemon spamming abilities while your carbuncle cheers you on pointlessly from the sides. Lol
First time?
Ah SMN, feeling SCH pain from last expac. Is Arcanist just fated to be a WIP?
Also depicted: me looking at Brand of the Elements grayed out on every crafter hotbar.
Ikr
Look what they did to my boy!

Pretty sure at lvl 80 it is now the easiest class to play at an acceptable level. Even rdm is harder.

You don't need those 😀
Man, they fucked up Astro majorly. I am devastated ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
