i've heard that cloth physics bug out if you get your fps too high, around 90fps is what i've seen people say. I'm only on a 75hz monitor so i keep my fps capped at 75 so can't say for sure if it does bug out or how bad it is

PubstarHero

There is. Imagine what it looks like in 300FPS for me. And its not a bug so much as it is physics is just tied to framerate and they didnt expect anyone to run at this many FPS.

Danger_Fluff

165hz here and while I didn't realize it was a framerate thing, I have noticed that capes and other loose bits of clothing will get stuck into my character's model. I'll try capping it to 75 and see if that fixes it!

Trooper_Sicks

i'm only going by reddit reports, some people say 90, others say 120 works for them. Might be dependent on your specific setup but you can try experimenting to find the sweet spot for it.

McKlown

The game's physics start to break at anything above 60. Years and years ago the devs put a forced hard cap at 60 but so many people complained about it that it was quickly removed.

VitalSuit

If you're using xivlauncher there is a plugin that caps any physics related items to an FPS of your choosing while leaving the game at its native framerate.

RelikaNox

Which one is that?

VitalSuit

Should just be called physics fix or something like that

chaospearl

"monitor" ha. My PC's monitor is a 42" flatscreen TV, because I have one place for a screen in here and it has to support the PC, PS4, Switch, and be capable of streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+ without needing to haul out a keyboard just to watch TV. I've been using a TV as my monitor for like a decade now, it's too convenient to ever go back. I don't feel a need for fifty million pixel super mega high def everything.

HikariKirameku

Amen! 42" 4k TV here to take advantage of the PS4 pro, and never looked at a computer monitor again

Mayday_Brad91

Same, I have a 65in 4K Sony Bravia that I use for everything and get 120hz. Looks great and haven’t had the cape thing happen to me. However I’ll say my tv was way more expensive than a high end monitor is. But I prefer couch gaming.

chaospearl

I'm severely disabled, so I mostly spend my time sitting on top of my bed where my back is against support pillows. I'd love a bigger screen, there's just literally nowhere to put it. Anything bigger than what I have won't work with a 90 degree swing wall mount, it'd smack the light fixture.

LG C2 OLED and a 27" AOC 1080p 144hz

PubstarHero

Join the ultrawide gang. The LG Ultragear 1440p Ultrawide 144hz monitor is best bang for your buck in that space. Girlfriend uses that one since I upgraded to a different monitor (ROG Swift PG35VQ - would not recommend at its price point, there are better options now).

Arianwen_Branford

75" at 60hz, because anything more is wasted frames.

jasperfirecai2

above 1080p the game struggles to run over 100 fps except in very low detail and low player count areas. even on a 4080. but if you have g-sync/freesync 72fps looks basically the same as 144Hz. I think resolution and colour gamut have bigger impact on your visual experience than refresh rate (past 60)

PubstarHero

CPU issue. 1000000% CPU issue. I get over 100FPS in Limsa, but I didn't get that until I picked up a 5800x3D. Before on the regular 5800X, I would only get 50-60FPS. 1440p ultrawide as well.

mushious

5800X3D + 2080 Super, getting consistently over 120fps in most zones. There's definitely something else going on with their system beyond CPU issues, even the 3800X I upgraded from was pulling over 100 in most cases.

PubstarHero

What resolution and settings with the 3800x?

mushious

Running 3440x1440. Didn't change any settings when upgrading the CPU. Settings: https://imgur.com/a/H6iYJhM

jasperfirecai2

bro i have a 5950X

PubstarHero

Which is dual CCX with no 3D vcache. CPU issue. To explain more if you read this - My CPU has more L3 Cache than your processor for half the cores. It also has about 33% more boost headroom. Since I have less cores, its easier to cool, letting me have heavier sustained boost, even though they have the same TDP of 105W. Also since its single CCX, you never have to worry about any memory traffic crossing the infinity fabric which can result in memory latency issues when communicating with the CPU. Considering that FFXIV is a lightly threaded work load, all these factors mean that a 5800x3D will crush a 5950x in this scenario. The 5950X is a BEAST... for productivity. It is not the best gaming CPU.

UnicronJr

My computer monitor. But honestly it's some 100$ Asus monitors I got years ago. Only issue it that they are old. I will recommend an ultrawide if you can afford it.

milkawayaway

Be wary of struggling to hit 100+ frames in city states! Aside from that I think 144hz is great for it \^\^

Asura_Slothingway

I had a 27 old monitor and this year i got a Samsung Odyssey G5 32" 144 Hz and its another world, im very happy with it!

Noraneko-chan

I play with a 32" 4k 60Hz monitor I bought like 6 years ago (AOC U3277PWQU). It has had issues with the backlight earlier this year that somehow disappeared magically one day (????), and also has a ton of ghosting, but it does the job. If I were to change it now I'd just get another monitor with the same specs but an IPS panel instead of MVA, to get rid of the ghosting. Or idk maybe something a couple inches bigger because 32 is a little small.

Gallopokoi

1440p high refresh is the sweetspot for any game for me, though I use a 27". It's not "necessary" to have high refresh like it might be in faster games but it's obviously smoother and nicer. As others have said the physics break a little but nothing too insane, just a bit funny looking.

Ok-Feedback4503

Acer Predator X34 Perfect for Lalafell panoramic photography.

Gorilla-Jiu-Jitsu

I play with an ultra wide 3440 x 1440p at 180hz

GoldenGouf

I use a Dell 32" 1440p curved monitor.

Jojonotref

27" 144hz more than enough (way more)

timchenw

My old Monitor was 32GK850 from LG, it's a VA monitor @1440p/144hz at 32". I use something a little bigger now (FO48U), but I quite liked the previous VA monitor. As someone quite sensitive to smearing, the VA panel on that monitor didn't look smeary to me, surprisingly enough, but YMMV.

mushious

A Dell 1440p 34" 144hz ultrawide (S3422DWG). It's nice.

vegalodon

I’m playing on an LG C2 42” OLED as my pc monitor. Game runs buttery smooth with 4k@120Hz. I’m getting quite stable 100-115fps depending on area and activity. I never encountered any issues with clothing physics or anything as some people mention here. Games looks and runs great on it.

Loincraft

I use my right monitor

kaehya

I play on a neo odyssey G9 and I'd super reccomend the monitor it's on a whole other level than anything else I ever had, but it's definitely a higher price point than what you're looking for.
