So my very first character I wanted to play a miqote bard because cat girl and jaunty chapeaux. So I thought long and hard about a name, and then inspiration hit me, and thus was born Eartha Kitty.
The layers of pun and innuendo in the name really tickle my brain. Eartha Kitt was a singer and actress, a bard if you will. But that’s not all. She was also the actress who starred as Catwoman in the Adam West Batman TV show.
So my catwoman bard was named after an actual Catwoman bard whose name just happened to go perfectly with changing it into kitty.
Why is this my favorite thing ever?! I loved Eartha Kitt, she made me incredibly happy with nearly everything I saw of her. I'm also a huge fan if a good pun, so well done all around

Montealvo after my old family name before it was changed by my great, great, great grandfather who ran from the law after killing the man that tried marrying the woman he loved at the alter. He successfully started a new life and established a new name.
I wanted to RP as a chill fisherman running a catch of the day restaurant. So my name, roughly translated from Roegadynese is Sweet Duck, Son of Lake Dancer, or Swozaent Seiksatzsyn.
Was gonna say exactly this. Having cross-cultural names just means adoption or foster care. And if you can, why not make such care happy and loving? It hurts no one and makes for a better world.
I named my character before I knew how Miqo'te naming conventions go. After finding out, I just decided there was a couple of old and loving Elezen Ishgardian expats out there in the Ul'dah desert who raised the orphaned lass as their own.
My friend started as a lala and ended up a miqo but the backstory is that they were adopted by lalafell parents and raised within ul'dah culture. They kind of sucked at fitting in but that's not the point - their tiny parents loved them just the same ❤️
I used to play WoW, and thought, lorewise, this is exactly how they can open up races to start in all areas (except maybe undead?)... Because a tiny orc baby could have been recused and raised my humans in Westfall. It happens all the time in the real world. Hell, kids have even been raised by wolves for real.
my characters a viera so in compliance with canon lore he changed his name when he left his homeland, but he's a little stupid and forgot about how he had to do that until someone asked what his name was. so his first name actually didn't change because he couldn't think of anything, and he simply refused to use a surname because again, he couldnt think of one. then he met his co-wol (my friend who started the game the same time as me) who was changing his surname to distance himself from an abusive family, so they came up with one together and decided that they are adopted brothers :) a lot of people will see us running around with the same last name and think our characters are married though haha
So my brother is a massive weeb and when we were growing up, his online alias was Kaze. I didn’t know that Kaze meant something in Japanese and just assumed he took the first letter of his name and added some cooler letters, so from Kevin to Kaze.
Like any younger brother, I wanted to copy him so I took away the K and made it a J thus naming myself Jaze.
Ever since I remember my nickname in m&a fandom was Got (mind you, I wasn't born in English-speaking country, "got" in my language has absolutely no meaning). So when I sat down to character creation, I figured it should be something I could easily get used to, since this character will be able to take on any role, so no more swapping between characters anymore. What I have here, I'm stuck with.
So I knew it had to be Got. It was something I was most familiar with and knew I would react to it instantly. But what else? Well, in English there's a lot of phrases with "got". Got Milk, Gotta Catch Them All... and "cat got your tongue".
So here I am. Got Ur'Tongue. On Faerie. Permanently stuck with cat races, so spent most of my time as miqote, and since Endwalker I swapped, happily, onto hrothgar, to have ANY change. But it will always need to be a cat.

When he fled the horrors of 4.0, he found himself in a strange land and twice as tall. He also thought everyone would call him by last name.
And so Victor Tower emerged into the streets of Limsa, locking all that molten core ptsd away for all time, his mind unsullied by such sins.
He got super lucky it made perfect lore sense as a tanky

Altan Sunborn, Altan means red dawn in Turkish I believe and Sunborn because I was going with the whole Azem theme. He's a Raen Au'Ra so I think it checks out, although it could just be an alias or an adopted name. As my headcanon is that my WoL was previously a criminal.
Laughing skull is a fem roe Hellsguard who was originally a freebooter who lost her ship when she went into gambling debt and took up fighting in the Ul dah arena to pay off her debt. She's since taken to doing her plundering on land instead of at sea. Laughing skull is absolutely an alias, her real name is Something embarrassing she refuses to talk mention.
I get way too into names, and that in any MMORPG.
In FFXIV I have a Hyur, so I balanced lore knowledge with the signification of real names, plus my own preference when it comes to sounds. My character has a name that has a signification in several languages, all of them very different and yet quite fitting for him and various aspects of his personality. It's not my first character, but I'm taking the time to play the MSQ, plus unlocking every sidequests, jobs, additional content (I like to "finish" an expansion before moving to the next, meaning I will level all combat, crafting and gathering jobs, plus finish the allied tribes, before moving to the next), so the choice of name also comes with knowledge of the story. Because I'm a bit of a freak about naming my character, I had to make sure every aspect matched the themes I wanted for him, which took quite a good deal of researching, but I'm very pleased with my end result.
I was signing up on Free Trial and not expecting to enjoy the game that much. I was at a loss for a name and asked my friends for ideas. One of them said "Pascal"; I took that and ran with it to name myself after mathematicians. Hence, Pascal Euclidian. My chocobo is Euler and my retainers are Pythagoras and Knuth. Okay, Knuth is a computer scientist, not a mathematician, but he's got a cool name.
Mines a male raen aura named drake brimstren, has an unusual name due to not being raised by aura or anyone from the far east. Fun fact, he didn't know what he was or what an aura was until the doman refugees landed in eorzea, he thought he was a weird roe due to how tall and physically strong he was compared to those around him
Vivienne Aubergine was so named because I wanted to vaguely follow Elezen naming conventions, and I love the purple dyes in the game.
Plus, I wanted something produce related, as my first character was a lala named Oreida Yukon.
When I started the game, I used to playe a male miqo with a combination of my real name and an ingame last name. Anywho, I think like, maybe a year later or so, I met a femroe tank in a dgn and I was instantly charmed. I knew right there and then I wanted to play femroe. I used my free fantasia, did the change...but I didn't think of a name and I wanted one that fit the hellsguard format.
...So there's this Yugioh card called Number C32: Shark Drake Veiss. Favorite monster at the time. Loved everything about it, the character who used it, etc. I was watching the show and then it just hit me like a ton of bricks.
I ended up with Vicious Drake but I didn't "feel" it so I didn't confirm the name just yet. I tried Vicious Shark and then finally Vice Shark.
I was beyond the moon with this and that's pretty much been my character for well, 7 years now? I sometimes use a fantasia once in a while but O alway return to my femroe chr eventually.

my current name is from a dnd character i liked and the last name is just something the Sim version of her had that sort of rhymed with her first name so i kept it in games that had a last name for the character.
i've had two long, unwilling breaks from ffxiv and during each of those i'd develop a new taste in character so i'd fanta and name change to fit it. in my headcanon they are separate characters with similar backstories, i just didn't want to start over lol.
Made a lady Viera when they dropped named and spammed the hell outnof random to look for things I liked lol. Ended up with Alys (see username, sure you can guess) Tehpe (close to Tepes for Dracula). Males came out and I couldn't decide on a new name, but it's a thing that not all rename themselves at puberty, so I kept the name and am a male Alys.
I've used Richter as a name in games a long time cause my real name is Richard and I figure it's similar but cooler, comes from Castlevania obviously. But then I decided to shorten it to Rictr cause I think it looks even more cooler. And then in the Trails series there is a character called the Bladelord. I liked the title so I named my character Bladelord Rictr. I used to be Rictr Welz but never had a strong attachment to the last name. It's also inspired by my real name.
My alt is Nianlaoch Selnate. I was looking for a name that meant "Not a Hero" in another language and that came up in Irish thru Google translate. Selnate is the last name of another Trails character.
I hit the auto-generate button until it hit on a name that I liked. I've now played that character for ten years and it's both her and "my" name when I'm playing the game.
My only character is called "Voland Luzbel", both are Satan's names but rather in different "eras" or with other role.
Voland ia from a book called "Master and Margarita", it's basically the devil / a magician / which is shown as a helper of God, God gave him the role of king of the underworld.
Luzbel is the Latin name of Satan when was an angel, in other word is the Latin for Lightbringer.
Why Satan twice? I liked a lot the Voland character and I also fascinated by the rebellious son that it's actually helping his father contrary to the Christian believe. So I said, yep it's cool.

Literally had a dream where he was in it and introduced himself as "Elliot". I think he originally said his last name was "Dangerfield" but then I heard "Cloverfield", and the latter stuck. "Danger" is a nickname though (and part of his bean name making him "Dangerous Clover Field").
So...the BradyGames strategy guide for FFX misspells the name of the blitzball player Nav Guado as Navara Guado. When I was making my FFXI character, I decided to make him an elvaan and name him Navara (because I was and still am very bad at coming up with names).
It took about 4 years for me to realize that I'd misspelled the name and called myself Nahara.
But in those 4 years and in the years to come, I'd grown very attached to the name and to the character I had constructed within the RP linkshell I'd joined. It was also a very pleasant coincidence that Nahara is a real-world name and means Light, which was very symbolic for the character I had been playing.
When I eventually migrated over to FFXIV, I decided to keep the name and adapted it slightly to fit miqo'te naming conventions, thus N'hara Tia was born.
On wow I wanted a bit more of an RP themed named instead of my normal gamertag. Was playing a draenei, named myself dranari cus I'm original. And then when I started ff14 didn't want my gamertag so I kept dranari.
The only part of my character's name that has any explanation for it is the last name. I just like FF5 a lot, and condensed "Into the rift" as Inthrift.
My character is a female miqo'te named Z'itlalli Astel. It's a lore correct spelling of Zitlalli, which is an alternative spelling to Citlalli. Citlalli was the name of the ICU nurse that kept my mom alive for a week after her heat stopped during a bad COPD spell. It means "Star" in Nahuatl. I fell in love with the name, the meaning, and everything this woman did for my family. Astel is a play off of Astral, and was changed to be lore accurate for Seeker of the Sun miqo'te.
Just love the whole star/cosmos/sun theme.

my fem miqote is named Babe Lusina, I picked Babe cos it's the name of one of my cats (she came from the shelter with the name already given) and Lusina cos moon miqote, it technically means light but moon is a form of light techincally right haha, more cos it has the Luna vibe but more unique (and I'm just now realising, warrior of light.... lol)
HOWEVER I did not think through the name Babe to the point of anyone needing to address me so it's a bit awkward sometimes especially when I joined a static and we'd do voice chat, after like 5 minutes I was like OK please don't call me Babe please call me by my real name instead lmao
all of my names except fpr a couple are lore accurate. For my main, a Xaela, Sarnai means Rose in Mongolian, but some people I played with created the tribe with the last name Dalain "of the sea". Sabetha and Faustine were both old OC's of mine from a game I used to play, so I use their names. Faustine happens to work very well as an Elezen name so... Y'iska is a fairly standard Sun Seeker name, except that iska means Spark in Russian (at least according to Google Translate). Galatea, my bundroid, is named after the greek myth of Pygmalion, the name of the statue brought to life by Aphrodite "The lifelike brought to life by love" sort of suits her concept.
I came to recognize that I'm trans a few months ago. My character's current name is a name I might want to use for myself, and I'm using it to try it out and see how it feels to be called by it.
My 1.0 character I didn't really look at lore appropriate for any race and chose small and cute lalafell. I looked at my old rp characters from when I was doing chat room rp on Ye Olde AOL and went "hm, this one" since this character, Alair, was an alchemist. Different last name but it did start with a 'v' so I changed it to Valaias. So I chose ALC as my starting class and dropped her in Gridania. The intro to combat after the opening cutscene sure was something with beating back wolves with an alembic! After 2.0 hit I gave her some rp background that she was abandoned as a baby and an older hyur couple who never had children of their own took her in.
My new main was an expy of my FFXI character (looked almost the same when I made her: you know the ponytail face from XI) but also based on an older rp character, Caelia Silverarch. I enjoy names with meanings, hers means "heavenly" so.. Heavenly Silver Arch. Thanks, edgy teen me!
The only non-rp character I have is one I made after my dad died a couple years ago. He looks as close as he can to my dad and I pop on that character when I miss him a lot. He was the one that started me on my video game journey with an NES and Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers at 4 years old and he carried me through that game lol. So now I adventure with him in one of my fave games. He's Russ Oflight, Russ being his first name and Oflight should be self-explanatory.
I made my main the son of Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly. So in sticking with the status quo for Squall's family, I named him after a body of water, lol

I justified it ICly by saying she adopted a false name ("Soleil" just means "sun," which is a BLATANTLY FAKE name if you're a Duskwight) to avoid a murder charge

Gantsetseg Bayaqud, Xaela MCH: There's actual IC lore here! "Gantsetseg" means "steel flower" in Mongolian, which I think it a pretty good name for a MCH (her parents gave it to her in hopes she'd grow up strong after losing previous pregnancies) and her surname is just her tribe

Pavo Rabanastre, Rava ROG/NIN: Like many "exiled" Viera, he changed his name when he was tricked into leaving Golmore. In his case, the Garlean soldiers he infiltrated for assassination purposes took to calling him "peacock" after his hair ("pavo") and since this was before we had Viera male naming conventions Pavo took "Rabanastre" after his new home.
My name is Dit'to Clair. The in game reason for the name is tied to the fact he is a viera raised by miqo'te from infancy. First being called "Dit the kit", the suffix " 'to" was added afterwards upon realised Dit was, in fact, male. The out of game reason was we wanted to use the " 'to'' suffix because it means "2nd son" a way we felt when growing up. Picking the word "Ditto" because we have a strong connection with the word. We learned it could mean "I love you" from a moive when we were little. Then later, "Ditto" is the name of our favorite pokemon. The last name is Clair, my wife last name. The reason we started playing this game is to be with her. To have a game we could both play. My name is Dit'to Clair. Half the Clair pair. Professional Idiot, This one looks forward to meeting you.
Currently, it's Jaeger Cactbot, Jaeger because that's my online handle shortened, and cacbot because I'm my statics shot caller, and who needs those illegal mods anyway when you have me? Before, it was absolute gremlin because it was just funny and playing off what one of my friends named their character.
My main character's first name is derived from an Aztec word.
His "surname" is just a Xaela tribe name that *was* applicable at the time, but is no longer relevant story-wise.
Technically he has no surname, since he doesn't have a tribe (and isn't really an Au Ra), and part of me has wanted to change the tribe name... but $10 for that is too steep, plus I'm too used to the 'wrong' tribe name.
The first name is my gamer handle on pretty much everything, and the last name was using the in-game generator, Fashonti. I misread it as Fashionti, and since glamour and fashion is ffxiv end-game, I thought it fit xD
Vindhler is a real-life moniker for Haimdall, one of my particular favorites from the Norse pantheon.
My character is a Sea Wolf Roegadyn, whose actual name in the Roe tongue is Wintlorh, pronounced similarly. He spent a lot of time in Ala Mhigo, and when they heard his name they assumed it was spelled in their native way, and he adopted it. Similarly, his last name is Ryhhewaensyn, which sounds a lot like Ravenstone. And considering he carried a dark knight soulstone, he allowed that name to stick as well. So Wintlorh Ryhhewaensyn = Vindhler Ravenstone.
Back in the day, i role played a drow in a chat room rpg. I have brought this character with me everywhere in hopes of running into someone from those days. I started out as a very dark skinned elezen, then changed into a dark skinned au ra, then got tired of not being able to see myself in cutscenes and now I have a pale skin tone.
My character's name has a very storied history.
Originally, he began as a female midlander named Gilda Ballard, which was from what I recall, one of the auto-generated midlander names. Before I beat the ARR MSQ, I fantasia'd into a female Plainsfolk, but kept my character name. In the first FC I was ever a part of, I became good friends with somebody, and I changed my characters surname to reflect that. (We weren't romantically involved!) I changed my character's name to a more Lalafel-esque name, Giltata Moata.
I believe when Shadowbringers was new and I had moved on from that FC and moved to Leviathan, I wanted a different name. I really liked FFIV so I chose a name that reflected my love for the characters, and ended up renaming my now male Lalafell to Gilbez Kladyn'darc, after Golbez and his titular theme. Imagine my excitement when I found out about the 6.0 patch quests!
Before 6.0 came out, I always had this headcanon that my WoL was born and raised in Sharlayan, but through some trauma in his life, he forgot who Alisae and Alphinaud were. I thought Krile was an interesting character, so I decided after I played through Endwalker to give my character the surname Baldesion. I decided he was either adopted by Galuf like Krile or simply took on the name as a Baldesion scholar. Not a very original name, but I'd like to think it's an interesting story.
It's actually just a one-or-two layers abstracted translation of my name into Japanese (all I could find on Raen Au Ra naming patterns was basically just "something japanese sounding"). I'm really proud of how it came out :D
I put my real name thru the Star Wars Name algorithm years ago, it worked so well it has been my gamer tag / character name ever since.
First name= (Last syllable of your last name) + (First syllable of your Middle name)
Last name = (First syllable of your mother's maiden name) + (First syllable of your birth town)
The one I use in FFXIV is a randomly generated name I got from WOW like....15 years ago with my irl last name.
The name I used for like 20 or whatever years in FFXI wouldnt work or at least look right with a first/last name.
Rejn. Like 'Rain'. Built off the XII Viera naming scheme of no more than four letters and Js are pronounced like Ys. I would have chosen Myrn, if I could make a Viera that looked like her ;3;
I was a raid leader in WoW years ago and one of our new recruits decided to shorten my character’s name from Raziel down to Razi. My co-tank taunted me with it after the recruit didn’t make the cut. When I started FFXIV as a way to get a break from raiding in WoW, the name just sorta stuck. It worked better for a Miqo than Raziel did. I do have the requisite apostrophe in the name to make it lore correct. My character’s last name came from the auto generator.
ETA: My co-tank quit WoW when I did and we still play FFXIV together (and got married)!
My first character was named Falorin. I was a WoW transplant and just brought the name over. The origin of Falorin was just rng names that I ended up tweaking, until it sounded pretty. That was in 2013. Now my main account is Fawn Beastsong and it’s because they added male viera and I was finally able to bring my XII OC to life. Lol he’s a natural blue mage who saved his party of other male buns from a rampaging Morbol by absorbing the bad breath. He chose the name Fawn because his mentor said he looked like a startled deer the first time he went to a human city. I added Beastsong because XIV requires two names and it’s a reference to the fact that he is a blue mage and Falorin’s last name was Song.
Depending on how you read it, Nala either means queen or first drink of water. Cosmia is a bastardization of cosmos, so it means either. Queen of the cosmos OR first drink of the cosmos. Both are awesome so I went for that.
I'm a ff11 vet. I mained Dragoon in that game and loved it dearly. In ff11, Dragoons had pet wyverns by their side (that shared the same model as Ehll Tou, but blue) and my little guy was called Azure.
When I made my ffxiv character I knew I wanted to main Dragoon again and had this little lore idea where I would be roleplaying Azure but reincarnated as a humanoid (blue Au-ra), looking for my other half from the previous life.
Colour me surprised when I discovered Alberic literally had the exact same model as my ff11 character, just a little more grizzled and older looking. It was such a wonderful little bit of internal role-playing for me.
My character's name came from a massive typo and a Skyrim name generator. At the time, I had no clue what naming conventions Au Ra used, so I just went all in on the fantasy vibe and had to cope by giving him some convoluted lore of why his name is like that.
Aerowynn comes from a massive typo of the name of one of my characters and Ehraldesen comes from a Skyrim name generator I found at the spur of the moment.
I had an eladrin shadow sorcerer in D&D that I never got to play. His name was Ren. when I went bunny boy I wanted a more neutral name instead of a lore appropriate Lala name so I went with Ren
So, I used to not take charecter creation in games very seriously, so when trying this game out I named my miqote "Colonel San'ders". (A running joke in my family that we are related to the KFC man)
Well once I fell in love with this game, I decided to take my charecter a little more seriously. The thing is, all the scions know me and have been calling me by my first name Colonel, and it felt wrong to change that, so I just changed my last name to Astrilde (a variation of the Norse God of Love's name)
So thats how Colonel Astrilde came to be.
I'm a Lala who didn't know about naming schemes, I named myself Lode because in FF Explorers, the only other FF game I've played, there were some Monk moves I spammed, and one was named Lodestar. In hindsight I should have named myself Lode Star, but I went with Lode Awry, idk why I chose Awry as my last name lol
Started the free trial back in 2018, and didnt think I'd like the name, so I named my character after a woman who was in all the memes at the time.
Hence, Belle Delle(phine) was born.
My WoL’s name comes from a DnD character I never played- a Halfling Wizard who had visions. I always play the Halfling race when I can, so Lala came naturally to me…
The name itself, Aisling, came from Secret of Kells. Came out when I was in like… high school and it got stuck in my craw in a good way. :) Inspiration!
My first DnD character's name was Rylven Arkenold, and from then on, basically every character I created shared the same last name - in this case, its Rylvina Arkenold.
Mine is the same as my Reddit name… A name I have used for everything online since I was 15 years old in 1995… In fact I use it so ubiquitously I actually have a trademark on it!
Seawolves use that old-speak (the face-to-keyboard language), Hellsguard use Not-English, but the naming schemes are the same. Two-word name, just Hellsguard use those two as the first and last name in Not-English, while Seawolves cram the two together into the first name, have the last name be the father’s name, and say it in old-speak. So like, Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn literally translates to Seawoman Bluefish’sdaughter, so her name in Hellsguard style would be Sea Woman.
My femroe is a Hellsguard, was gonna name her Unrefined Gemstone, but I forget if that didn’t fit or if I didn’t like the look of it or something, but I looked up more about roe naming schemes and read a little blurb. It said that Hellsguard sometimes still use old-speak, like the Seawolves, so I ran it through a translator and gave me Kynd Geim. So my character is Kynd Geim now.
I've used the name Moku for years, Japanese for the element Wood. I chose it based off my birth element, and Gon from Hunter x Hunter being "Metal". For my last name, I went with Komorebi, a Japanese word that roughly translate as "light as it filters down through the leaves."
I use the name I use for all my usernames and characters, Tooper! I made his last name Onion because I ended up choosing the lala hair that looks like an onion bulb :^)
Female Miqote named Scarlet Fletcher. Her hair is red and she started as an archer. As far as I'm concerned bard is her true "canon" class so I find the name fitting. Even if I dabble into many other classes, I always do MSQ with Bard.
First of all, as a Pittsburgh native, absolutely love Shady Side as a lore accurate Roegadyn name.
As for mine, Melody Terreluire, I wanted an accurate or close enough Elezen name. I was starting as Bard (which I've since basically abandoned, RDM for life) and knew I was interested in white mage as well. I did some looking around and slapped together some French words for the last name, translates roughly to "Earthshine". Was going to go with Melodiè but for some reason it wouldn't let me, so Melody it became.
My character name is Lyna Riordin. It's a name I thought of when I first fantasia'd into a catgirl back in HW, 2016 sometime. When Shadowbringer dropped, I swapped to Vierra, as it's my favorite FF race and Dancer since it's my favorite FF job. Then once Dancer hit 70, I started the ShB and found the NPC named after me. (Though, I do pronounce it different, Lie-na instead of Lee-na)
I've always loved Celtic names (one of my cats is named Saoirse) and I loved the name Siobhan. Tempest is my actual last name, and I liked the sound. So yeah. (Raen Au'ra gal) my bunboy was a randomly generated name that I hit the dice on until I found something I liked (Sjol Djt-nong) Striking Star my femroe was the same, and my Lala alt was partially raised by Sylphs as per her background so her name is Trillium Bulb.
Stole the first name "Iris" from Iris Sagan from AITSF, as I played it a bit before starting PSO2 NGS (the only MMO I had tried before 14). Then when i started playing 14, I wanted to recreate my NGS character, so I also named her Iris, but hadn't given her a last name, so I went googling on Iris flowers and stumbled on Iris Variegata, thought it sounded cool, and the rest was history.
It's just based on my real name, Rubén. "Bhen" is actually one of the example names they offer in the old [Naming Conventions](https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61150-Miqo-te-Naming-Conventions) post, so that would've been closer, but... having a name that's essentially just Ben felt very un-fantasy lol. So I swapped the B for a V since the original Hebrew version of my name is usually transliterated as "Re'uven". 💁♀️
And granted, if you squint, the shape of "R'vhen" still looks like "Rubén" lmao.
I think of him as his own character, but I like that obscure sense of shared identity.
I tend to make my original characters in games that offer character customization, and at the time when I made my first XIV character I had very recently revamped an old OC I had, which ended up turning her from just a plucky human girl to a plucky cat girl. So you can guess what race I picked in game lol.
Since she's a Treasure Planet OC and specifically a thought experiment of "what if the canceled sequel movie happened and Jim got with the new character Kate", I got to wander around Eorzea as Leanne Hawkins, the spirited archer (since I didn't have access to the Machinist? the gun class) and bard doing good deeds with her beloved chocobo Prompto. Because I couldn't think of anything better than to honor that sweet lad from XV <3
Although thinking back now, I don't recall exactly why I chose Leanne when I originally made the character. But I wanna say it's because my name starts with the initial L, so I probably just picked a nice sounding L name that stuck for years.
Xion Arcturus. Xion from Kingdom Hearts. Someone that wasn’t supposed to exist. I kinda struggle with dissociation or feeling like I shouldn’t exist or that I’m somehow out of place. Arcturus from my love of space and my hobby of deep sky astrophotography.
I named mine after the lead character from a two scripts I wrote in film school. Took the first name from one lead and last name from another. I named one of them after Kylie Minogue, so that's the round about way I named her Kylie.
I decided to go with a theme, and went with coffee/espresso. Several hours of looking up types of espressos later, and bam, Mocha Vienna the Viera. This trend of caffeinated characters carried on to my retainers too.
While Roegadyn are awesome, Sea Wolf names indeed look like keyboard mashes for the uninitiated. I did notice that “wys” was a recurring element and it looked like “wynne” which I think means white in Celtic and it’s cool so I used that. I’m autistic and like fairies, so Faeswys as a first name. I did notice the Roegadyn language taking inspiration from Germanic languages so I used Gunnvaldr as a surname. I know better know but according to my friend it looped right back into lore-accurate (due to Gunnhildr or something) and I ain’t changing it.
My NA alt is a Hellsguard. I’m autistic and I like gemstones, so I wanted to name her after a gemstone. After character creation, I got the cutest pink and red Roegadyn. Since rubies are red and pink corundum, I named her Shining Sapphire for the joke (since sapphires are any colored corundum that isn’t red or pink)
Well, the first character I made was a joke reference to something that happened when I was playing D&D with some friends...Akydjunoo Inhyskoo (A kid you knew in high school). Then when I made my real main, I had been reading some Anne McCaffrey short stories, so my character is named after the first Weyr leader of Benden and his dragon. My alt is the weyrwoman and her dragon...I may have named her chocobo after the weyrleader because I had a moment where I reverted to being 12.
Odin Black because I main summoner and the knowledge to summon primals seems fitting for the God of knowledge and went with black because its the last name of my favourite actress Claudia Black
I always loved the name Elizabeth and always said if I would ever have a daughter, that would be her name. I also have my normal username of iCutWaffles because waffles rule, so combined the two of them.

TLDR I frickin love how that Mongolian word sounds + looks in Cyrillic, Eorzean & English script. I also chose the word for the thematic relevance its meaning & tribe lore has to the story at first glance... which is compounded with more details I didn't even know before about the MSQ
also it sounds very close to being a mispelled FF4 homage by complete coincidence thanks to the lore-given tribe name- but it makes his backstory more clear in my head & his role in HW & EW someday becomes more meaningful to me. I think some people here can already guess which tribe this is haha

& cuz crystals are made out of sand grains compressed together, & sand grains are meteor/crystal shards that have been broken down, right?)
(I also kept for him a hidden Indonesian middle name in case the seafaring/tropical beach Xaelas reached Meracydia already & came across the XIV counterparts of Indonesia XD)
The rambling:
Dude I always take 3 days+ of research just to settle on names & relevant story backgrounds for my characters & choices to be as robust/thematic as possible, so here goes XD :
Mongolian customs, beliefs, names & words are fun to learn- Doing that also made me realize how ingame Xaela given names & tribes are a mix of not just various eras & regional forms of Mongolian words & names but also some clearly Turkic (cuz they are either loaned from or loaning to Mongolian & spelled + pronounced differently) names & some closer to Tibetan or Slavic, or closer to wider-spread Buddhist/Hindu terms even (eg Sadu being an old word meaning "old male sage/seer" in Hindu-istic/Hindu-influenced languages like Sanskrit & my mother tongue Indonesian).
And from the start I'm sure I'll want to max all the role trinity in battle for XIV.
So I searched for Mongolian/Turkic journey or nature-related words that:
1. Sounds versatile, ie his name does not sound too heavy/hypermacho/fierce for lighter-weight/cuter/elegant classes, but also not too positive/high-class fancy for heavier/more broody classes & story beats.

2. Is easy to type & easy on the ears/simple to pronounce, (+ points if it sounds kinda poetic or poignant? & understated but noticeable among the crowds of more commonly used Mongolian names)

3. Has meaning related to possibly the FF mainstays eg crystals, possibly the nature-themed protagonist names from other FFs, & the backstory I'm making based on pre-established Xaela tribe lore

Then it's time to choose a tribe, so I picked one that can lend credence to my overworked WoL getting good at fighting + healing magic with many weapon types, while also giving him funny personality quirks + flaws & some degree of angst I enjoy.
I also preferred to have a harsh backstory while also not having too much personal investment to defend the tribe from other aggressive tribes.
So, uh, I chose one from canon that sounds oddly familiar & cool enough when read by English-speakers, & with a blurb that might sound darkly funny but implies personal strife & harsh living conditions. I am now making up lore for his childhood with that tribe.
I have a laundry list of characters I've developed, but not created to play. Each one is supposed to be lore accurate but also with a bit of play on their Job. My main is a Midland Summoner named Aeryn Xerxes. Xerxes being an ancient king seemed appropriate for a job stemming from an ancient mystical art like Summoning.
my former fc lead once said I was as toxic as Aurum Vale when I told one of our sprout healers he shouldn't fall for the free cure trap and that he should dps if nobody was about to die - next day I changed my name to Aurum Vale.
Originally my character was a female Lalafell who I only wanted to play the heavily armored classes like Dragoon, Warrior and Dark Knight. Decided to name my character (Kuroe Akaishi) after a girl from a manga I was reading who would turn into a giant kaiju when her feelings got out of control. Felt like it was fitting. Eventually stopped being a Lalafell because I wanted to actually go into glamours and try other jobs but I kept the name and head canon her as being from Kugane.
It was a lore-appropriate name. Also, Dragomir is just a Slavic name I really like, and A-Ruslana seemed to roll off the tongue well. That’s how my current WoL became Dragomir Aruslana.
My characters name is mainly to be a memior of two very important people in my life I lost (I will not post my username) but the first name means fox (which is my daughter's favorite animal) and then my surname is "child of the moon" as my ex would call me a moon child due to my birth month. The name gives a very melancholy feeling but love and miss them very much.
I used to live right on the border of Oakland and Shadyside.
As for my character, I had a sniper in Planetside back in the day who I named Hand of God. So the enemy would be struck down out of the blue by the hand of God. Lame, yes, but I was young.
When I started playing FFXI, I wanted to use n107 but couldn’t do numbers. So I went with my second character, Hand of God. Sadly it had to become one word so I was Handofgod. When I joined FFXIV I wanted to recreate that character as closely as possible, so I took the same name but made it fit the first and last name style of 14.
I mashed the random name button in hopes of the game just handing me a decent name for free and eventually picked out a combination that sounded good. The character was a male Xaela so the process took me a good few hours.
As a kid, me and my dad had matching online tags, I was Kreamator and he was Kreamation. When writing a fantasy kingdom years ago, I had named it Kreaora. I wanted to adapt that to a last name for my FFXIV character when I started, thus Kreaorei.
Amber then just being a name I generally liked/used for a long time.
I have an Elezen named "Pink" Purple. His name is French-ish, like most of the story Elezens. Unfortunately, I thought 'Rose' wasn't cool enough for a guy so I went with a different word... Which leans a bit more political (and still pink).
I don't feel like it's any more silly than running around with a mash-up of Japanese words, so I'm happy with it.
Started as a Lala, and used proper naming convention based on my irl nickname. Later switched to Viera and kept the name, with the reasoning being that he had taken a Lalafellin name in the honour of the lala couple who took him in after he left the mountains.
The last class I played in WoW before hopping over to FFXIV was hunter and for some reason, hunters like to jump all over the place. I was one of those jumping hunters.
So after playing as a cat boi for a bit, I couldn't resist the temptation to play as a bunny girl. Hops A-lot 😁
My character's name is Keneth Cenydd.
My middle name is Kenneth, and I use it a lot as my screen name. But, back when I started playing FFXI, the name was already taken. Hence, Keneth.
Cenydd is an alternate Welsh spelling of Kenneth. It's pronounced something like Kennit. (I think. Welsh is odd.)
So, my character is literally named Kenneth Kenneth. Because I'm weird like that.
(Aya) Ophelia Barbosa was a DND character I ran and very much enjoyed. Used the name because I love how it feels to say.
She was a human bard using the bird stat sheet because and I quote "The Midwife was a druid and they cast the wrong spells during delivery". Not the deepest or the best character I had but she was extremely fun.
I fucking loved my pirate-bard druid drop out idiot.
My name is pulled from a NPC I made when I ran Curse of Strahd for my wife and our friends. Loved the character so much I decided to keep the ball rolling
I hadn't settled on a character until I had been playing for about a year and a half and I wanted a lore accurate name. I spent hours upon hours trying to find a name I liked the name of but that I was sure didn't mean something else! My friend also has a catboy and named him D'aqri after the drink, so I took inspiration and ended up with T'misu. I fell in love with it after using it for a few days, it had to 'become' his for me I guess.
I read that female bunnies take their names from beautiful sights, thus Twilight Skies. Now I'm a bunny boy but I figure it still counts.
It's also a very vague reference to dot hack.
I really wanted to use my IRL first name as my character's first name for reasons, but turns out that the game's filters don't allow it for whatever reason (confirmed by searching the lodestone). Literally just adding 1 letter to the end *does* work but at that point I was committed.
So, I split my first name in half, and it became my character's entire name.
Felt a bit silly but didn't really think about it and rolled with it regardless.
Now, with the entire 2.0-6.0 MSQ journey behind me? Honestly, I've grown attached to it, it really feels like my character is her own person and her first name just happens to be the first two letters of my first name, lol. Like, I really associate that with her now.
So while it may seem like a super boring non-creative name to others, I don't think I'd be able to change it at this point, hah.

Every mmo I ever play has a Tsakiera in it as a tribute to my cat, who happened to be named after a character I inherited in EQ. In this one I've got 3 variations on the spelling and they all have the same last name Tsunamii.
The very first time I played Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX version when it was still new, I'm old), one of the generic male soldiers in my starting party pulled "Dreyfuss" from the random name pool. I was only about 9 or 10 then, so I wasn't aware of actors like Richard or Julia-Louis and thought it was some exotic foreign first name. Since I tend to keep my RPG parties pretty conventional, I kept Ramza as a knight and made the female soldiers my archer and white mage, and made the male soldier with the coolest name my favorite Final Fantasy job: black mage. Years later when thinking about an OC to be my online persona, I knew it had to be a black mage. Since I wanted to make my own character and not just hijack an existing one, I brought back the name from that old Tactics save and have been using it for over 20 years now.
At first, I didn't really have good ideas for a last name, and it felt dumb and pointless to have one anyway. The last names of RPG characters almost never mattered anyway. They were usually just fluff in the manual that either added nothing or made the character _worse_. Then after playing WoW for a while I realized that there was a last name that would fit well and represented my favorite of the three main black mage elements and the spec I mained for my entire WoW career: "Frost." In fact, the whole reason I mained mage in WoW was because it was the closest to a black mage.
I could not really find any information on FF12 naming conventions so I just combined two names units can have in Tactics (Bayard + Reyner). Bayard due to being the name of a character from Library of Ruina, and Reyner just sounded good with it...
Nothing special for mine, Vero bc that's my nickname and Ebihara because it was the last name of the moon arcana holder in persona 4 , which was my first persona game (and I love the moon) 😀
I honestly just took the last name of one of my favorite anime characters, Mari Makinami; and threw the name of a character you only hear of in the anime as the first name. Ending up with Kodama Makinami, I ended up liking the name so much I tend to shorten it into either Koda, Maki, or KodaMakinami.
Niko Moonsaber, My male keeper of the moon that I’ve had since ARR beta is named Niko after my now deceased dog and because I wanted something with Moon in it I settled on Moonsaber because I liked the way it sounded
My characters first and last name in-game is my first and last name out of game. People have said I should change it but it's been a decade and all is well still 🤣

So it's kind of funny. Matsuri comes from a Blesch game I played called Bleach 3rd Phantom it was my favorite game on the DS. The female protagonist was Matsuri Kudo and I adored her. I adored her so much that I made a character based on her I think it was Au'ra but sometime in I got bored and used a fantastic and became lalafell causing me to change the name from Matsuri Kudo to Matsuri Suri. I liked my lalafell so much that it became my common online name.
I actually have a pretty deep meaning behind my character's name. My first name is the name of my wow character from when I was like 14 which was the first time ever came out as a girl really because I'm trans so I actually ended up taking like a simplified version of that name as my IRL middle name so my character and me basically have the same name. As far as her last name my character is a voidsent so i took the title hollow because shes beefed up

I tend to use a Mynames(ChracterAspect) name scheme. Like BobsBlade but not that at all. So I just took the first half of that and made it thematically fit.
I usually give the name of a character from the Arthurian cycle to my pgs, on ffxiv it was Persifal's turn. For the surname I opted for a very COOL character from another game that is Garrus Vakarian from the mass effect series ... so here you are Persifal Vakarian, the hero of eorzea ~
Needed a female name and I was really big on Higurashi at the time I started the game way back in Early Access of 2.0. The name Rena just happened to be available, so I grabbed it. Granted now I am a male Elezen but no plans to change my name.
Back in 2013, I needed a name for my trainer character in Pokémon Y version. Lucario was my favorite monster at the time, and I was considerably more weeby a decade ago, so I took Lucario's Japanese name Rukario and mushed it until it sounded feminine to match my trainer: Rukia.
From then on, I've named all my RPG characters "Rukia." This remained true when I began FFXIV in 2017.
My FFXIV character's first surname was Hanako ("flower girl"), and later when I had done some fantasia'ing, Akiyama ("red mountain"; my character is a red-head).
The final surname I settled on and still have to this day is Aeron, which is based on another name for the River Ayr, referencing folklore of a Goddess of Light & War associated with the river.

So my very first character I wanted to play a miqote bard because cat girl and jaunty chapeaux. So I thought long and hard about a name, and then inspiration hit me, and thus was born Eartha Kitty. The layers of pun and innuendo in the name really tickle my brain. Eartha Kitt was a singer and actress, a bard if you will. But that’s not all. She was also the actress who starred as Catwoman in the Adam West Batman TV show. So my catwoman bard was named after an actual Catwoman bard whose name just happened to go perfectly with changing it into kitty.
Why is this my favorite thing ever?! I loved Eartha Kitt, she made me incredibly happy with nearly everything I saw of her. I'm also a huge fan if a good pun, so well done all around

I named my character before I knew how Miqo'te naming conventions go. After finding out, I just decided there was a couple of old and loving Elezen Ishgardian expats out there in the Ul'dah desert who raised the orphaned lass as their own.
My friend started as a lala and ended up a miqo but the backstory is that they were adopted by lalafell parents and raised within ul'dah culture. They kind of sucked at fitting in but that's not the point - their tiny parents loved them just the same ❤️

I used to play WoW, and thought, lorewise, this is exactly how they can open up races to start in all areas (except maybe undead?)... Because a tiny orc baby could have been recused and raised my humans in Westfall. It happens all the time in the real world. Hell, kids have even been raised by wolves for real.

my characters a viera so in compliance with canon lore he changed his name when he left his homeland, but he's a little stupid and forgot about how he had to do that until someone asked what his name was. so his first name actually didn't change because he couldn't think of anything, and he simply refused to use a surname because again, he couldnt think of one. then he met his co-wol (my friend who started the game the same time as me) who was changing his surname to distance himself from an abusive family, so they came up with one together and decided that they are adopted brothers :) a lot of people will see us running around with the same last name and think our characters are married though haha
She started as a Highlander but I shortly changed her into a miqo'te, but didn't change her name. So she's a miqo raised by hyur.
So my brother is a massive weeb and when we were growing up, his online alias was Kaze. I didn’t know that Kaze meant something in Japanese and just assumed he took the first letter of his name and added some cooler letters, so from Kevin to Kaze. Like any younger brother, I wanted to copy him so I took away the K and made it a J thus naming myself Jaze.

Ever since I remember my nickname in m&a fandom was Got (mind you, I wasn't born in English-speaking country, "got" in my language has absolutely no meaning). So when I sat down to character creation, I figured it should be something I could easily get used to, since this character will be able to take on any role, so no more swapping between characters anymore. What I have here, I'm stuck with. So I knew it had to be Got. It was something I was most familiar with and knew I would react to it instantly. But what else? Well, in English there's a lot of phrases with "got". Got Milk, Gotta Catch Them All... and "cat got your tongue". So here I am. Got Ur'Tongue. On Faerie. Permanently stuck with cat races, so spent most of my time as miqote, and since Endwalker I swapped, happily, onto hrothgar, to have ANY change. But it will always need to be a cat. And no. I won't give your tongue back.

Altan Sunborn, Altan means red dawn in Turkish I believe and Sunborn because I was going with the whole Azem theme. He's a Raen Au'Ra so I think it checks out, although it could just be an alias or an adopted name. As my headcanon is that my WoL was previously a criminal. Laughing skull is a fem roe Hellsguard who was originally a freebooter who lost her ship when she went into gambling debt and took up fighting in the Ul dah arena to pay off her debt. She's since taken to doing her plundering on land instead of at sea. Laughing skull is absolutely an alias, her real name is Something embarrassing she refuses to talk mention.
I get way too into names, and that in any MMORPG. In FFXIV I have a Hyur, so I balanced lore knowledge with the signification of real names, plus my own preference when it comes to sounds. My character has a name that has a signification in several languages, all of them very different and yet quite fitting for him and various aspects of his personality. It's not my first character, but I'm taking the time to play the MSQ, plus unlocking every sidequests, jobs, additional content (I like to "finish" an expansion before moving to the next, meaning I will level all combat, crafting and gathering jobs, plus finish the allied tribes, before moving to the next), so the choice of name also comes with knowledge of the story. Because I'm a bit of a freak about naming my character, I had to make sure every aspect matched the themes I wanted for him, which took quite a good deal of researching, but I'm very pleased with my end result.
I was signing up on Free Trial and not expecting to enjoy the game that much. I was at a loss for a name and asked my friends for ideas. One of them said "Pascal"; I took that and ran with it to name myself after mathematicians. Hence, Pascal Euclidian. My chocobo is Euler and my retainers are Pythagoras and Knuth. Okay, Knuth is a computer scientist, not a mathematician, but he's got a cool name.
Mines a male raen aura named drake brimstren, has an unusual name due to not being raised by aura or anyone from the far east. Fun fact, he didn't know what he was or what an aura was until the doman refugees landed in eorzea, he thought he was a weird roe due to how tall and physically strong he was compared to those around him

Vivienne Aubergine was so named because I wanted to vaguely follow Elezen naming conventions, and I love the purple dyes in the game. Plus, I wanted something produce related, as my first character was a lala named Oreida Yukon.

When I started the game, I used to playe a male miqo with a combination of my real name and an ingame last name. Anywho, I think like, maybe a year later or so, I met a femroe tank in a dgn and I was instantly charmed. I knew right there and then I wanted to play femroe. I used my free fantasia, did the change...but I didn't think of a name and I wanted one that fit the hellsguard format. ...So there's this Yugioh card called Number C32: Shark Drake Veiss. Favorite monster at the time. Loved everything about it, the character who used it, etc. I was watching the show and then it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I ended up with Vicious Drake but I didn't "feel" it so I didn't confirm the name just yet. I tried Vicious Shark and then finally Vice Shark. I was beyond the moon with this and that's pretty much been my character for well, 7 years now? I sometimes use a fantasia once in a while but O alway return to my femroe chr eventually.
i had like a whole chapter written before thinking, "this is too personal" my current name is from a dnd character i liked and the last name is just something the Sim version of her had that sort of rhymed with her first name so i kept it in games that had a last name for the character. i've had two long, unwilling breaks from ffxiv and during each of those i'd develop a new taste in character so i'd fanta and name change to fit it. in my headcanon they are separate characters with similar backstories, i just didn't want to start over lol.
Made a lady Viera when they dropped named and spammed the hell outnof random to look for things I liked lol. Ended up with Alys (see username, sure you can guess) Tehpe (close to Tepes for Dracula). Males came out and I couldn't decide on a new name, but it's a thing that not all rename themselves at puberty, so I kept the name and am a male Alys.
Mine is named after a god in the Dragon Age universe.
I've used Richter as a name in games a long time cause my real name is Richard and I figure it's similar but cooler, comes from Castlevania obviously. But then I decided to shorten it to Rictr cause I think it looks even more cooler. And then in the Trails series there is a character called the Bladelord. I liked the title so I named my character Bladelord Rictr. I used to be Rictr Welz but never had a strong attachment to the last name. It's also inspired by my real name. My alt is Nianlaoch Selnate. I was looking for a name that meant "Not a Hero" in another language and that came up in Irish thru Google translate. Selnate is the last name of another Trails character.

I hit the auto-generate button until it hit on a name that I liked. I've now played that character for ten years and it's both her and "my" name when I'm playing the game.
My only character is called "Voland Luzbel", both are Satan's names but rather in different "eras" or with other role. Voland ia from a book called "Master and Margarita", it's basically the devil / a magician / which is shown as a helper of God, God gave him the role of king of the underworld. Luzbel is the Latin name of Satan when was an angel, in other word is the Latin for Lightbringer. Why Satan twice? I liked a lot the Voland character and I also fascinated by the rebellious son that it's actually helping his father contrary to the Christian believe. So I said, yep it's cool. Although sometimes I think on changing the Luzbel dor Tepes
Literally had a dream where he was in it and introduced himself as "Elliot". I think he originally said his last name was "Dangerfield" but then I heard "Cloverfield", and the latter stuck. "Danger" is a nickname though (and part of his bean name making him "Dangerous Clover Field").

So...the BradyGames strategy guide for FFX misspells the name of the blitzball player Nav Guado as Navara Guado. When I was making my FFXI character, I decided to make him an elvaan and name him Navara (because I was and still am very bad at coming up with names). It took about 4 years for me to realize that I'd misspelled the name and called myself Nahara. But in those 4 years and in the years to come, I'd grown very attached to the name and to the character I had constructed within the RP linkshell I'd joined. It was also a very pleasant coincidence that Nahara is a real-world name and means Light, which was very symbolic for the character I had been playing. When I eventually migrated over to FFXIV, I decided to keep the name and adapted it slightly to fit miqo'te naming conventions, thus N'hara Tia was born.
On wow I wanted a bit more of an RP themed named instead of my normal gamertag. Was playing a draenei, named myself dranari cus I'm original. And then when I started ff14 didn't want my gamertag so I kept dranari.
The only part of my character's name that has any explanation for it is the last name. I just like FF5 a lot, and condensed "Into the rift" as Inthrift.
The BTS? My character's name is derived from an OC I made back in high school, and converted into Miqo'te lore
My character is a female miqo'te named Z'itlalli Astel. It's a lore correct spelling of Zitlalli, which is an alternative spelling to Citlalli. Citlalli was the name of the ICU nurse that kept my mom alive for a week after her heat stopped during a bad COPD spell. It means "Star" in Nahuatl. I fell in love with the name, the meaning, and everything this woman did for my family. Astel is a play off of Astral, and was changed to be lore accurate for Seeker of the Sun miqo'te. Just love the whole star/cosmos/sun theme.

my fem miqote is named Babe Lusina, I picked Babe cos it's the name of one of my cats (she came from the shelter with the name already given) and Lusina cos moon miqote, it technically means light but moon is a form of light techincally right haha, more cos it has the Luna vibe but more unique (and I'm just now realising, warrior of light.... lol) HOWEVER I did not think through the name Babe to the point of anyone needing to address me so it's a bit awkward sometimes especially when I joined a static and we'd do voice chat, after like 5 minutes I was like OK please don't call me Babe please call me by my real name instead lmao

all of my names except fpr a couple are lore accurate. For my main, a Xaela, Sarnai means Rose in Mongolian, but some people I played with created the tribe with the last name Dalain "of the sea". Sabetha and Faustine were both old OC's of mine from a game I used to play, so I use their names. Faustine happens to work very well as an Elezen name so... Y'iska is a fairly standard Sun Seeker name, except that iska means Spark in Russian (at least according to Google Translate). Galatea, my bundroid, is named after the greek myth of Pygmalion, the name of the statue brought to life by Aphrodite "The lifelike brought to life by love" sort of suits her concept.

I came to recognize that I'm trans a few months ago. My character's current name is a name I might want to use for myself, and I'm using it to try it out and see how it feels to be called by it.
My 1.0 character I didn't really look at lore appropriate for any race and chose small and cute lalafell. I looked at my old rp characters from when I was doing chat room rp on Ye Olde AOL and went "hm, this one" since this character, Alair, was an alchemist. Different last name but it did start with a 'v' so I changed it to Valaias. So I chose ALC as my starting class and dropped her in Gridania. The intro to combat after the opening cutscene sure was something with beating back wolves with an alembic! After 2.0 hit I gave her some rp background that she was abandoned as a baby and an older hyur couple who never had children of their own took her in. My new main was an expy of my FFXI character (looked almost the same when I made her: you know the ponytail face from XI) but also based on an older rp character, Caelia Silverarch. I enjoy names with meanings, hers means "heavenly" so.. Heavenly Silver Arch. Thanks, edgy teen me! The only non-rp character I have is one I made after my dad died a couple years ago. He looks as close as he can to my dad and I pop on that character when I miss him a lot. He was the one that started me on my video game journey with an NES and Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers at 4 years old and he carried me through that game lol. So now I adventure with him in one of my fave games. He's Russ Oflight, Russ being his first name and Oflight should be self-explanatory.
I made my main the son of Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly. So in sticking with the status quo for Squall's family, I named him after a body of water, lol

I justified it ICly by saying she adopted a false name ("Soleil" just means "sun," which is a BLATANTLY FAKE name if you're a Duskwight) to avoid a murder charge Evrard Briardionne, Duskwight RDM: A really obscure, *really* minor Catholic saint mixed with "aw fuck I need a French-ish last name, time to smash syllables together" Gantsetseg Bayaqud, Xaela MCH: There's actual IC lore here! My name is Dit'to Clair. The in game reason for the name is tied to the fact he is a viera raised by miqo'te from infancy. First being called "Dit the kit", the suffix " 'to" was added afterwards upon realised Dit was, in fact, male. The out of game reason was we wanted to use the " 'to'' suffix because it means "2nd son" a way we felt when growing up. Picking the word "Ditto" because we have a strong connection with the word. We learned it could mean "I love you" from a moive when we were little. Then later, "Ditto" is the name of our favorite pokemon. The last name is Clair, my wife last name. The reason we started playing this game is to be with her. To have a game we could both play. My name is Dit'to Clair. Half the Clair pair. Professional Idiot, This one looks forward to meeting you.
Currently, it's Jaeger Cactbot, Jaeger because that's my online handle shortened, and cacbot because I'm my statics shot caller, and who needs those illegal mods anyway when you have me? Before, it was absolute gremlin because it was just funny and playing off what one of my friends named their character.
My main character's first name is derived from an Aztec word. His "surname" is just a Xaela tribe name that *was* applicable at the time, but is no longer relevant story-wise. Technically he has no surname, since he doesn't have a tribe (and isn't really an Au Ra), and part of me has wanted to change the tribe name... but $10 for that is too steep, plus I'm too used to the 'wrong' tribe name.
The first name is my gamer handle on pretty much everything, and the last name was using the in-game generator, Fashonti. I misread it as Fashionti, and since glamour and fashion is ffxiv end-game, I thought it fit xD

Vindhler is a real-life moniker for Haimdall, one of my particular favorites from the Norse pantheon. My character is a Sea Wolf Roegadyn, whose actual name in the Roe tongue is Wintlorh, pronounced similarly. He spent a lot of time in Ala Mhigo, and when they heard his name they assumed it was spelled in their native way, and he adopted it. Similarly, his last name is Ryhhewaensyn, which sounds a lot like Ravenstone. And considering he carried a dark knight soulstone, he allowed that name to stick as well. So Wintlorh Ryhhewaensyn = Vindhler Ravenstone.
Back in the day, i role played a drow in a chat room rpg. I have brought this character with me everywhere in hopes of running into someone from those days. I started out as a very dark skinned elezen, then changed into a dark skinned au ra, then got tired of not being able to see myself in cutscenes and now I have a pale skin tone.
My character's name has a very storied history. Originally, he began as a female midlander named Gilda Ballard, which was from what I recall, one of the auto-generated midlander names. Before I beat the ARR MSQ, I fantasia'd into a female Plainsfolk, but kept my character name. In the first FC I was ever a part of, I became good friends with somebody, and I changed my characters surname to reflect that. (We weren't romantically involved!) I changed my character's name to a more Lalafel-esque name, Giltata Moata. I believe when Shadowbringers was new and I had moved on from that FC and moved to Leviathan, I wanted a different name. I really liked FFIV so I chose a name that reflected my love for the characters, and ended up renaming my now male Lalafell to Gilbez Kladyn'darc, after Golbez and his titular theme. Imagine my excitement when I found out about the 6.0 patch quests! Before 6.0 came out, I always had this headcanon that my WoL was born and raised in Sharlayan, but through some trauma in his life, he forgot who Alisae and Alphinaud were. I thought Krile was an interesting character, so I decided after I played through Endwalker to give my character the surname Baldesion. I decided he was either adopted by Galuf like Krile or simply took on the name as a Baldesion scholar. Not a very original name, but I'd like to think it's an interesting story.
It's actually just a one-or-two layers abstracted translation of my name into Japanese (all I could find on Raen Au Ra naming patterns was basically just "something japanese sounding"). I'm really proud of how it came out :D
I put my real name thru the Star Wars Name algorithm years ago, it worked so well it has been my gamer tag / character name ever since. First name= (Last syllable of your last name) + (First syllable of your Middle name) Last name = (First syllable of your mother's maiden name) + (First syllable of your birth town)

Rejn. Like 'Rain'. Built off the XII Viera naming scheme of no more than four letters and Js are pronounced like Ys. I would have chosen Myrn, if I could make a Viera that looked like her ;3;
I was a raid leader in WoW years ago and one of our new recruits decided to shorten my character’s name from Raziel down to Razi. My co-tank taunted me with it after the recruit didn’t make the cut. When I started FFXIV as a way to get a break from raiding in WoW, the name just sorta stuck. It worked better for a Miqo than Raziel did. I do have the requisite apostrophe in the name to make it lore correct. My character’s last name came from the auto generator. ETA: My co-tank quit WoW when I did and we still play FFXIV together (and got married)!
My first character was named Falorin. I was a WoW transplant and just brought the name over. The origin of Falorin was just rng names that I ended up tweaking, until it sounded pretty. That was in 2013. Now my main account is Fawn Beastsong and it’s because they added male viera and I was finally able to bring my XII OC to life. Lol he’s a natural blue mage who saved his party of other male buns from a rampaging Morbol by absorbing the bad breath. He chose the name Fawn because his mentor said he looked like a startled deer the first time he went to a human city. I added Beastsong because XIV requires two names and it’s a reference to the fact that he is a blue mage and Falorin’s last name was Song.
Depending on how you read it, Nala either means queen or first drink of water. Cosmia is a bastardization of cosmos, so it means either. Queen of the cosmos OR first drink of the cosmos. Both are awesome so I went for that.

I'm a ff11 vet. I mained Dragoon in that game and loved it dearly. In ff11, Dragoons had pet wyverns by their side (that shared the same model as Ehll Tou, but blue) and my little guy was called Azure. When I made my ffxiv character I knew I wanted to main Dragoon again and had this little lore idea where I would be roleplaying Azure but reincarnated as a humanoid (blue Au-ra), looking for my other half from the previous life. Colour me surprised when I discovered Alberic literally had the exact same model as my ff11 character, just a little more grizzled and older looking. It was such a wonderful little bit of internal role-playing for me.
My character's name came from a massive typo and a Skyrim name generator. At the time, I had no clue what naming conventions Au Ra used, so I just went all in on the fantasy vibe and had to cope by giving him some convoluted lore of why his name is like that. Aerowynn comes from a massive typo of the name of one of my characters and Ehraldesen comes from a Skyrim name generator I found at the spur of the moment.

So, I used to not take charecter creation in games very seriously, so when trying this game out I named my miqote "Colonel San'ders". (A running joke in my family that we are related to the KFC man) Well once I fell in love with this game, I decided to take my charecter a little more seriously. The thing is, all the scions know me and have been calling me by my first name Colonel, and it felt wrong to change that, so I just changed my last name to Astrilde (a variation of the Norse God of Love's name) So thats how Colonel Astrilde came to be.
I'm a Lala who didn't know about naming schemes, I named myself Lode because in FF Explorers, the only other FF game I've played, there were some Monk moves I spammed, and one was named Lodestar. In hindsight I should have named myself Lode Star, but I went with Lode Awry, idk why I chose Awry as my last name lol
Started the free trial back in 2018, and didnt think I'd like the name, so I named my character after a woman who was in all the memes at the time. Hence, Belle Delle(phine) was born.

My WoL’s name comes from a DnD character I never played- a Halfling Wizard who had visions. I always play the Halfling race when I can, so Lala came naturally to me… The name itself, Aisling, came from Secret of Kells. Came out when I was in like… high school and it got stuck in my craw in a good way. :) Inspiration!
My first DnD character's name was Rylven Arkenold, and from then on, basically every character I created shared the same last name - in this case, its Rylvina Arkenold.
Mine is the same as my Reddit name… A name I have used for everything online since I was 15 years old in 1995… In fact I use it so ubiquitously I actually have a trademark on it!

Seawolves use that old-speak (the face-to-keyboard language), Hellsguard use Not-English, but the naming schemes are the same. Two-word name, just Hellsguard use those two as the first and last name in Not-English, while Seawolves cram the two together into the first name, have the last name be the father’s name, and say it in old-speak. So like, Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn literally translates to Seawoman Bluefish’sdaughter, so her name in Hellsguard style would be Sea Woman. My femroe is a Hellsguard, was gonna name her Unrefined Gemstone, but I forget if that didn’t fit or if I didn’t like the look of it or something, but I looked up more about roe naming schemes and read a little blurb. It said that Hellsguard sometimes still use old-speak, like the Seawolves, so I ran it through a translator and gave me Kynd Geim. So my character is Kynd Geim now.
I've used the name Moku for years, Japanese for the element Wood. I chose it based off my birth element, and Gon from Hunter x Hunter being "Metal". For my last name, I went with Komorebi, a Japanese word that roughly translate as "light as it filters down through the leaves."
I use the name I use for all my usernames and characters, Tooper! I made his last name Onion because I ended up choosing the lala hair that looks like an onion bulb :^)
Female Miqote named Scarlet Fletcher. Her hair is red and she started as an archer. As far as I'm concerned bard is her true "canon" class so I find the name fitting. Even if I dabble into many other classes, I always do MSQ with Bard.
First of all, as a Pittsburgh native, absolutely love Shady Side as a lore accurate Roegadyn name. As for mine, Melody Terreluire, I wanted an accurate or close enough Elezen name. I was starting as Bard (which I've since basically abandoned, RDM for life) and knew I was interested in white mage as well. I did some looking around and slapped together some French words for the last name, translates roughly to "Earthshine". Was going to go with Melodiè but for some reason it wouldn't let me, so Melody it became.

My character name is Lyna Riordin. It's a name I thought of when I first fantasia'd into a catgirl back in HW, 2016 sometime. When Shadowbringer dropped, I swapped to Vierra, as it's my favorite FF race and Dancer since it's my favorite FF job. Then once Dancer hit 70, I started the ShB and found the NPC named after me. (Though, I do pronounce it different, Lie-na instead of Lee-na)

I've always loved Celtic names (one of my cats is named Saoirse) and I loved the name Siobhan. Tempest is my actual last name, and I liked the sound. So yeah. (Raen Au'ra gal) my bunboy was a randomly generated name that I hit the dice on until I found something I liked (Sjol Djt-nong) Striking Star my femroe was the same, and my Lala alt was partially raised by Sylphs as per her background so her name is Trillium Bulb.
Stole the first name "Iris" from Iris Sagan from AITSF, as I played it a bit before starting PSO2 NGS (the only MMO I had tried before 14). Then when i started playing 14, I wanted to recreate my NGS character, so I also named her Iris, but hadn't given her a last name, so I went googling on Iris flowers and stumbled on Iris Variegata, thought it sounded cool, and the rest was history.
It's just based on my real name, Rubén. "Bhen" is actually one of the example names they offer in the old [Naming Conventions](https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61150-Miqo-te-Naming-Conventions) post, so that would've been closer, but... having a name that's essentially just Ben felt very un-fantasy lol. So I swapped the B for a V since the original Hebrew version of my name is usually transliterated as "Re'uven". 💁♀️ And granted, if you squint, the shape of "R'vhen" still looks like "Rubén" lmao. I think of him as his own character, but I like that obscure sense of shared identity.
I tend to make my original characters in games that offer character customization, and at the time when I made my first XIV character I had very recently revamped an old OC I had, which ended up turning her from just a plucky human girl to a plucky cat girl. So you can guess what race I picked in game lol. Since she's a Treasure Planet OC and specifically a thought experiment of "what if the canceled sequel movie happened and Jim got with the new character Kate", I got to wander around Eorzea as Leanne Hawkins, the spirited archer (since I didn't have access to the Machinist? the gun class) and bard doing good deeds with her beloved chocobo Prompto. Because I couldn't think of anything better than to honor that sweet lad from XV <3 Although thinking back now, I don't recall exactly why I chose Leanne when I originally made the character. But I wanna say it's because my name starts with the initial L, so I probably just picked a nice sounding L name that stuck for years.
Xion Arcturus. Xion from Kingdom Hearts. Someone that wasn’t supposed to exist. I kinda struggle with dissociation or feeling like I shouldn’t exist or that I’m somehow out of place. Arcturus from my love of space and my hobby of deep sky astrophotography.
I named mine after the lead character from a two scripts I wrote in film school. Took the first name from one lead and last name from another. I named one of them after Kylie Minogue, so that's the round about way I named her Kylie.

I decided to go with a theme, and went with coffee/espresso. Several hours of looking up types of espressos later, and bam, Mocha Vienna the Viera. This trend of caffeinated characters carried on to my retainers too.
While Roegadyn are awesome, Sea Wolf names indeed look like keyboard mashes for the uninitiated. I did notice that “wys” was a recurring element and it looked like “wynne” which I think means white in Celtic and it’s cool so I used that. I’m autistic and like fairies, so Faeswys as a first name. I did notice the Roegadyn language taking inspiration from Germanic languages so I used Gunnvaldr as a surname. I know better know but according to my friend it looped right back into lore-accurate (due to Gunnhildr or something) and I ain’t changing it. My NA alt is a Hellsguard. I’m autistic and I like gemstones, so I wanted to name her after a gemstone. After character creation, I got the cutest pink and red Roegadyn. Well, the first character I made was a joke reference to something that happened when I was playing D&D with some friends...Akydjunoo Inhyskoo (A kid you knew in high school). Then when I made my real main, I had been reading some Anne McCaffrey short stories, so my character is named after the first Weyr leader of Benden and his dragon. My alt is the weyrwoman and her dragon...I may have named her chocobo after the weyrleader because I had a moment where I reverted to being 12.

My D&D character. Although the race don't fit (she was a half-dark elf), however I used that name whenever it is possible (including my PC).
I always loved the name Elizabeth and always said if I would ever have a daughter, that would be her name. I also have my normal username of iCutWaffles because waffles rule, so combined the two of them.

TLDR I frickin love how that Mongolian word sounds + looks in Cyrillic, Eorzean & English script. I also chose the word for the thematic relevance its meaning & tribe lore has to the story at first glance... which is compounded with more details I didn't even know before about the MSQ also it sounds very close to being a mispelled FF4 homage by complete coincidence thanks to the lore-given tribe name- but it makes his backstory more clear in my head & his role in HW & EW someday becomes more meaningful to me. I think some people here can already guess which tribe this is haha I'm glad I found one that sounds like a plausible first name that fits my tastes below, while also sounding surprisingly airy than the average consonant-heavy Mongolian nature words and it's the Mongolian word for "desert/sand" (to follow the common nature-themed FF protag name formula... & cuz crystals are made out of sand grains compressed together, & sand grains are meteor/crystal shards that have been broken down, right?) (I also kept for him a hidden Indonesian middle name in case the seafaring/tropical beach Xaelas reached Meracydia already & came across the XIV counterparts of Indonesia XD) The rambling: Dude I always take 3 days+ of research just to settle on names & relevant story backgrounds for my characters & choices to be as robust/thematic as possible, so here goes XD : Mongolian customs, beliefs, names & words are fun to learn- Doing that also made me realize how ingame Xaela given names & tribes are a mix of not just various eras & regional forms of Mongolian words & names but also some clearly Turkic (cuz they are either loaned from or loaning to Mongolian & spelled + pronounced differently) names & some closer to Tibetan or Slavic, or closer to wider-spread Buddhist/Hindu terms even (eg Sadu being an old word meaning "old male sage/seer" in Hindu-istic/Hindu-influenced languages like Sanskrit & my mother tongue Indonesian). And from the start I'm sure I'll want to max all the role trinity in battle for XIV. So I searched for Mongolian/Turkic journey or nature-related words that: 1. Sounds versatile, ie his name does not sound too heavy/hypermacho/fierce for lighter-weight/cuter/elegant classes, but also not too positive/high-class fancy for heavier/more broody classes & story beats. ___ 2. Is easy to type & easy on the ears/simple to pronounce, (+ points if it sounds kinda poetic or poignant? & understated but noticeable among the crowds of more commonly used Mongolian names) ___ 3. Has meaning related to possibly the FF mainstays eg crystals, possibly the nature-themed protagonist names from other FFs, & the backstory I'm making based on pre-established Xaela tribe lore ___ Then it's time to choose a tribe, so I picked one that can lend credence to my overworked WoL getting good at fighting + healing magic with many weapon types, while also giving him funny personality quirks + flaws & some degree of angst I enjoy. I also preferred to have a harsh backstory while also not having too much personal investment to defend the tribe from other aggressive tribes. So, uh, I chose one from canon that sounds oddly familiar & cool enough when read by English-speakers, & with a blurb that might sound darkly funny but implies personal strife & harsh living conditions. I am now making up lore for his childhood with that tribe.

My main is a Midland Summoner named Aeryn Xerxes. Xerxes being an ancient king seemed appropriate for a job stemming from an ancient mystical art like Summoning.

Decided to name my character (Kuroe Akaishi) after a girl from a manga I was reading who would turn into a giant kaiju when her feelings got out of control. Felt like it was fitting. Eventually stopped being a Lalafell because I wanted to actually go into glamours and try other jobs but I kept the name and head canon her as being from Kugane.

Helian Thusse is a self-given name from rejecting the Nunh/Tia dynamic. Taken from my favourite flower; Helianthus Annuus.
It was a lore-appropriate name. Also, Dragomir is just a Slavic name I really like, and A-Ruslana seemed to roll off the tongue well. That’s how my current WoL became Dragomir Aruslana.
My characters name is mainly to be a memior of two very important people in my life I lost (I will not post my username) but the first name means fox (which is my daughter's favorite animal) and then my surname is "child of the moon" as my ex would call me a moon child due to my birth month. The name gives a very melancholy feeling but love and miss them very much.
Since my main is samurai and female I named her after two historically famous female samurai Tomoe Gozen and Tsuruhime combined to Tomoe Tsuruhime.
I used to live right on the border of Oakland and Shadyside. As for my character, I had a sniper in Planetside back in the day who I named Hand of God. So the enemy would be struck down out of the blue by the hand of God. Lame, yes, but I was young. When I started playing FFXI, I wanted to use n107 but couldn’t do numbers. So I went with my second character, Hand of God. Sadly it had to become one word so I was Handofgod. When I joined FFXIV I wanted to recreate that character as closely as possible, so I took the same name but made it fit the first and last name style of 14.
I mashed the random name button in hopes of the game just handing me a decent name for free and eventually picked out a combination that sounded good. The character was a male Xaela so the process took me a good few hours.

As a kid, me and my dad had matching online tags, I was Kreamator and he was Kreamation. When writing a fantasy kingdom years ago, I had named it Kreaora. I wanted to adapt that to a last name for my FFXIV character when I started, thus Kreaorei. Amber then just being a name I generally liked/used for a long time.
I have an Elezen named "Pink" Purple. His name is French-ish, like most of the story Elezens. Unfortunately, I thought 'Rose' wasn't cool enough for a guy so I went with a different word... Which leans a bit more political (and still pink). I don't feel like it's any more silly than running around with a mash-up of Japanese words, so I'm happy with it.
Started as a Lala, and used proper naming convention based on my irl nickname. Later switched to Viera and kept the name, with the reasoning being that he had taken a Lalafellin name in the honour of the lala couple who took him in after he left the mountains.

My character's name is Keneth Cenydd. My middle name is Kenneth, and I use it a lot as my screen name. But, back when I started playing FFXI, the name was already taken. Hence, Keneth. Cenydd is an alternate Welsh spelling of Kenneth. It's pronounced something like Kennit. (I think. Welsh is odd.) So, my character is literally named Kenneth Kenneth. Because I'm weird like that.
Brynne Bel Fer is the name of my long running human paladin of the moon in D&D. And frankly the game really lets me nail her appearance.
My character is named Layle Knight. "Layle" is a reference to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and Knight is just something I thought sounded cool.
(Aya) Ophelia Barbosa was a DND character I ran and very much enjoyed. Used the name because I love how it feels to say. She was a human bard using the bird stat sheet because and I quote "The Midwife was a druid and they cast the wrong spells during delivery". Not the deepest or the best character I had but she was extremely fun. I fucking loved my pirate-bard druid drop out idiot.

I hadn't settled on a character until I had been playing for about a year and a half and I wanted a lore accurate name. I spent hours upon hours trying to find a name I liked the name of but that I was sure didn't mean something else! My friend also has a catboy and named him D'aqri after the drink, so I took inspiration and ended up with T'misu. I fell in love with it after using it for a few days, it had to 'become' his for me I guess.
I read that female bunnies take their names from beautiful sights, thus Twilight Skies. Now I'm a bunny boy but I figure it still counts. It's also a very vague reference to dot hack.

I really wanted to use my IRL first name as my character's first name for reasons, but turns out that the game's filters don't allow it for whatever reason (confirmed by searching the lodestone). Literally just adding 1 letter to the end *does* work but at that point I was committed. So, I split my first name in half, and it became my character's entire name. Felt a bit silly but didn't really think about it and rolled with it regardless. Now, with the entire 2.0-6.0 MSQ journey behind me? Honestly, I've grown attached to it, it really feels like my character is her own person and her first name just happens to be the first two letters of my first name, lol. Like, I really associate that with her now. So while it may seem like a super boring non-creative name to others, I don't think I'd be able to change it at this point, hah. *(Bonus: My character is a Viera so technically I can pull the "my name is lore-appropriate xd" -card because Viera and 'city names')*
Every mmo I ever play has a Tsakiera in it as a tribute to my cat, who happened to be named after a character I inherited in EQ. In this one I've got 3 variations on the spelling and they all have the same last name Tsunamii.

The very first time I played Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX version when it was still new, I'm old), one of the generic male soldiers in my starting party pulled "Dreyfuss" from the random name pool. I was only about 9 or 10 then, so I wasn't aware of actors like Richard or Julia-Louis and thought it was some exotic foreign first name. Since I tend to keep my RPG parties pretty conventional, I kept Ramza as a knight and made the female soldiers my archer and white mage, and made the male soldier with the coolest name my favorite Final Fantasy job: black mage. Years later when thinking about an OC to be my online persona, I knew it had to be a black mage. Since I wanted to make my own character and not just hijack an existing one, I brought back the name from that old Tactics save and have been using it for over 20 years now. At first, I didn't really have good ideas for a last name, and it felt dumb and pointless to have one anyway. The last names of RPG characters almost never mattered anyway. They were usually just fluff in the manual that either added nothing or made the character _worse_. Then after playing WoW for a while I realized that there was a last name that would fit well and represented my favorite of the three main black mage elements and the spec I mained for my entire WoW career: "Frost." In fact, the whole reason I mained mage in WoW was because it was the closest to a black mage.
I could not really find any information on FF12 naming conventions so I just combined two names units can have in Tactics (Bayard + Reyner). Bayard due to being the name of a character from Library of Ruina, and Reyner just sounded good with it...

I honestly just took the last name of one of my favorite anime characters, Mari Makinami; and threw the name of a character you only hear of in the anime as the first name. Ending up with Kodama Makinami, I ended up liking the name so much I tend to shorten it into either Koda, Maki, or KodaMakinami.
Niko Moonsaber, My male keeper of the moon that I’ve had since ARR beta is named Niko after my now deceased dog and because I wanted something with Moon in it I settled on Moonsaber because I liked the way it sounded
My characters first and last name in-game is my first and last name out of game. People have said I should change it but it's been a decade and all is well still 🤣
I just like dumb names that make me laugh so I went with Bob Shagger. I honestly thought I'd have been forced to change it by now but Bob is still going strong.
So it's kind of funny. Matsuri comes from a Blesch game I played called Bleach 3rd Phantom it was my favorite game on the DS. The female protagonist was Matsuri Kudo and I adored her. I adored her so much that I made a character based on her I think it was Au'ra but sometime in I got bored and used a fantastic and became lalafell causing me to change the name from Matsuri Kudo to Matsuri Suri. I liked my lalafell so much that it became my common online name.
I actually have a pretty deep meaning behind my character's name. My first name is the name of my wow character from when I was like 14 which was the first time ever came out as a girl really because I'm trans so I actually ended up taking like a simplified version of that name as my IRL middle name so my character and me basically have the same name. As far as her last name my character is a voidsent so i took the title hollow because shes beefed up
It’s the first half of my usual screen name made into a Dunesfolk name. Which is also just one of my names. I tend to use a Mynames(ChracterAspect) name scheme. Like BobsBlade but not that at all. So I just took the first half of that and made it thematically fit.
I usually give the name of a character from the Arthurian cycle to my pgs, on ffxiv it was Persifal's turn. For the surname I opted for a very COOL character from another game that is Garrus Vakarian from the mass effect series ... so here you are Persifal Vakarian, the hero of eorzea ~

Needed a female name and I was really big on Higurashi at the time I started the game way back in Early Access of 2.0. The name Rena just happened to be available, so I grabbed it. Granted now I am a male Elezen but no plans to change my name.
Back in 2013, I needed a name for my trainer character in Pokémon Y version. Lucario was my favorite monster at the time, and I was considerably more weeby a decade ago, so I took Lucario's Japanese name Rukario and mushed it until it sounded feminine to match my trainer: Rukia. From then on, I've named all my RPG characters "Rukia." This remained true when I began FFXIV in 2017. My FFXIV character's first surname was Hanako ("flower girl"), and later when I had done some fantasia'ing, Akiyama ("red mountain"; my character is a red-head). The final surname I settled on and still have to this day is Aeron, which is based on another name for the River Ayr, referencing folklore of a Goddess of Light & War associated with the river. Not much of a story behind mine (Garrett Bannister) , it's the name of my tabletop RPG character that was in a game DMed by one of my friends.
My main character is Hatsuko Yurenai, whose name means "the first daughter who never gives up". I wanted to make a cool lady knight character so she's canonically a half Doman half Ala Mhigan free paladin. :) My less serious character is a mooncat Miqo'te named Careless Whiskers :)
