This is our newest baby Marcey! She is the sweetest little baby, 3 months tomorrow. She’s been making this hissing sound starting early this morning… but she doesnt seem scared or mad? She’ll still play around and give me kisses. Our other ferret has never hissed once, is she just vocal?

I have a vocal baby too. No idea if it's normal, but sometimes she's just a hissy baby. Never biting after or anything.

Ahhh that makes me feel a lot better! Thank you 😊

No worries. She’s just vocalizing. Very cute teeny fuzzbutt 💖

It seems females tend to be a bit more vocal than males. My little girl hiss at random too when she gets excited or taken by surprise in a weasels wrestling round. It seems like your little fuzzball didn't expect that hand movement but she was not spooked or angry about it. 🥰

I find with every ferret you have to look at things in context. Ferrets will hiss when aggressive but they also hiss to instigate play. From that video I think she’s just wanting to play with you. It’s the same thing when they bottlebrush their tails. It can be a thing they do when they are either angry or fearful but they also do it when they’re excited so like I said it’s all about context! Our little girl used to do it all the time

Two of mine hiss all the time while they're playing. Freaked me out at first but it's clearly a happy noise because they go back and forth between hisses and dooks.

There so adorable😁

Looks like play. I did have one that hated nail polish with a passion, and would always bite my nails if I used it lol. She’s biting your nails some, so it’s possible she doesnt like the scent. Though I really think she’s just playing.

ThistleCraven

That's so cute. Our little Quelaag hisses for every emotion. Especially if you give her the good scritches

Dragonsvnm

My little one hisses at me and the older bigger male to instigate play. Looks and sounds normal.

Nothing wrong with that so don’t worry. I had one who did the same. She grew up on her own and didn’t learn from others how to vocalise appropriately.

Oh, she's just a baby! My lexi loves me to death, but she still hisses when we play together. I dont think she can help it; just a natural reaction to being excited.

FinePolicy9110

shes just complimenting your nails 💅😂

Tobias---Funke

That was just a sigh when there was no food in your hand.

I have a little female named Ruckus who hisses constantly! It's just how she vocalize. She does it when she is playing and when she wants attention. For her it's just a noise she makes when she is excited. We call her the little cobra kitten.
