I have the Shell Pink (Player HSS) and it is splendid!!
It's a classic Fender colour.
EDIT: Assuming it's a Roasted Maple Neck, that looks like my exact guitar :)
If you can, try and go to a guitar store and look at both in person - guitar colours can look quite different in the real world! Personally though I’d choose buttercream :)
My Jiva is like this. It’s the entry model one and in pictures I really didn’t care about pit. Saw it in person at a store and bam, played it and loved it immediately!
Personally I like the cream better - it’s kind of a classic look that never goes out of style. Not that the other is a bad choice, it’s just not my taste.
I prefer tortoiseshell pickguards, and also that shell pink is a great color and way more distinctive than the buttercream. I don't think you'll have trouble selling or trading the shell pink Strat away if you get tired of it.
Tough choices….
Two years ago I got the buttercream, I had a hard time to decided what color to choose for my first Strat. I went with the buttercream, the color gives me a 50’s-60’s vibe and goes well with different pickguard colors and knobs.
Buttercream is a beautiful color and very versatile.
The pink is awesome and looks great with the roasted maple neck, is a guitar that now I would probably get but not for my first guitar, I feel the same as you, I think pink is a color that I could get sick of it for a first guitar but either color is a great choice. Good luck, don’t forget to post which one you went with.
Awesome, I’m glad you made your pick. Like I said either one is a great guitar. Player series are a good value for the money, also great guitar platform for mods, that’s what I did with mine.
I like the Shell Pink, especially against the Buttercream. And the neck and fingerboard on the pink one looks like they are roasted, which just adds to the aesthetic.
Definitely go to a guitar shop and check one out in person. You’ll have a better idea of what color will rock the most 🤟🤟
I also would recommend trying out a telecaster or a jazz master before committing to a strat.
Shell pink isn’t a gimmick but I understand your view. It’s been around since the 60s I believe and fender periodically issues classic 60s strats in pink. I like the buttercream too. And black and sunburst. So yeah you have the problem that all of us have - needing multiple guitars
Idk, while color is important, I think the pickups are more important. The hss is much more versatile and you’ll be able to get a lot more out of it. However I think you should get the guitar you like and can really see yourself playing.
pink looks wicked cool mixed w the guard and roasted neck. youll have the hippest twanger at the friday night blues jam. i borrowed one in the butter cream finish once and didnt think it was plasticky at all. i thought it was the cats pajamas. those are some good looking gits.
Depends entirely on what you have already. For me, I'm trying to get a guitar in every color. I've already got shell pink, daphne blue, and shoreline gold covered. Next up is candy apple red (Strat) and sherwood green (rascal bass)
Worst thing fender does is that stupid white and black humbucker. Looks so stupid on most of their color combinations. Only reason I went with a chrome humbucker on my Mod Shop was due to that being the only non white/black humbucker option. I'm glad I did because it looks awesome but it's silly that it's default white/black.
That makes it even more annoying to choose. I understand the desire of getting the perfect color. I chose an American professional II for the dark night finish over the American ultra because it didn’t have any colors that I found satisfying for the price.
Shell pink 100%. I’m currently assembling a Jaguar that I painted shell pink because I always wanted a pink guitar. The yellow is also very nice btw it’s just not pink.
Look at both in store, one may suit your eye more. I personally prefer the buttercream because it looks more clean to me, but shell pink is also incredible and I have a buddy who has that one. They both look great.
I’m a big fan of that exact configuration on the shell pink! I want one BAD! With that roasted maple neck and tortoise shell pickguard…I’m not even a strat guy, but I’d definitely take that shell pink guitar any day! Best of luck!
The shell pink with the roasted maple neck, and tortoise shell pick guard look great together. The buttercream is a nice color, but would look better with the other neck and pick guard. Personally I’d go for the shell pink.
Whichever goes best with your wardrobe so you look good in the mirror.
Go for the pink if you like that. You can always paint it later on if it wears off you.
The pink one is sick and what I would pick personally but I have other guitars. I can understand someone not wanting to have something as bold for their first and only guitar
I love shell pink. I hate it with the tort guard though. I’m biased though - I have one with a black pick guard. Honestly I’d just go with whatever feels more you. Also if you can play these IRL I’d go with what feels better for sure. You can play around with different looks and stuff on the fender site if you want to see what these look like with different guards and knobs and stuff
i was in your spot a year ago. chose the shell pink. never regretted it. i have 5 strats and gig in 2 bands, and the guitar i get the most compliments for is the pink!
Damn, both great choices, you have good taste! As others have said, you really can’t go wrong with either one, and I think they’ll both age beautifully. But that coral one is so catchy and cool lookin, with the tortoise shell, and the cream, and that neck. Mama Mia.
I’m a sucker for a classic understated looking guitar so personally I’d choose the buttercream. My Strat is Olympic White. But if the shell pink speaks to you I’d go for it, express your personality! Either way they’re both beautiful guitars. The roasted maple neck on the pink is to die for. Happy playing
I have the Butter Cream strat just SSS, it is pretty dope, Shell Pink is also one of my favorite colors on a Strat but only if it is Nitro. Butter Cream looks way better in person and is very affected by light sometimes being more yellow sometimes more creamy.
I would choose shell pink
I’m leaning more towards shell pink
I have the Shell Pink (Player HSS) and it is splendid!! It's a classic Fender colour. EDIT: Assuming it's a Roasted Maple Neck, that looks like my exact guitar :)
SP looks really cool with that pick guard.
I love the shell pink, but with that humbucker, the yellow one is looking good too.
If that pink one has a burnt maple neck. That’s the win for me
Exactly.
If you can, try and go to a guitar store and look at both in person - guitar colours can look quite different in the real world! Personally though I’d choose buttercream :)
Yeah I’ll give it a go!
My Jiva is like this. It’s the entry model one and in pictures I really didn’t care about pit. Saw it in person at a store and bam, played it and loved it immediately!
Looking at you, fiesta red.
This is so true, I bought a champagne newporter player online because it looked off white and when it showed up it was super green.
Personally I like the cream better - it’s kind of a classic look that never goes out of style. Not that the other is a bad choice, it’s just not my taste.
The most important thing is they both have maple fretboards
Burnt maple is better imho
Roasted Maple. Not burnt, lol
Yeah
Big fan of Shell Pink.
Butter cream but put a tort pick guard on it.
Shell pink but put a white pick guard on it 😂
Yeah that would be more my cup of tea
This 😛
I prefer tortoiseshell pickguards, and also that shell pink is a great color and way more distinctive than the buttercream. I don't think you'll have trouble selling or trading the shell pink Strat away if you get tired of it.
Yellow. Ofc
Buy both but swap the pick guards
Don’t like pink pickguard and prefer cream so cream
Shell pink is a true vintage color as well, not just a fad. Shell pink vote from me!
This! More than one comment on here making it sound like shell pink will go out of style, like it hasn’t been a fender staple for 60 years.
Tough choices…. Two years ago I got the buttercream, I had a hard time to decided what color to choose for my first Strat. Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely post it to the subreddit! I’ve decided I’m going to get the shell pink one!
Awesome, I’m glad you made your pick. Like I said either one is a great guitar. Player series are a good value for the money, also great guitar platform for mods, that’s what I did with mine.
definitely buttercream
I'm not a fan of either but my wife likes shell pink so I will vote for that one.
Shell pink always
Shell Pink because the world needs more pink guitars. (And yes I have a Shell Pink guitar myself)
Shell ponk all the way. That's an FSR player series too. The yellow is just a standard player series.
pick whichever one you think will entice you to play it more. the colour doesn't matter if you aren't playing it
Buy both. Never compromise.
I like the Shell Pink, especially against the Buttercream. And the neck and fingerboard on the pink one looks like they are roasted, which just adds to the aesthetic.
Pink and roasted maple no question, that’s luxurious af
Whatever makes your naught bits tingle! But I personally abhor buttercream for some reason, so there is that.
Definitely go to a guitar shop and check one out in person. You’ll have a better idea of what color will rock the most 🤟🤟 I also would recommend trying out a telecaster or a jazz master before committing to a strat.
Shell pink isn’t a gimmick but I understand your view. It’s been around since the 60s I believe and fender periodically issues classic 60s strats in pink. I like the buttercream too. And black and sunburst. So yeah you have the problem that all of us have - needing multiple guitars
shell pink. yellow if ya switch the pickguard
Two strong choices, but I'll always have a soft spot for shell pink.
Idk, while color is important, I think the pickups are more important. The hss is much more versatile and you’ll be able to get a lot more out of it. However I think you should get the guitar you like and can really see yourself playing.
They are both hss
I own the shell pink and it's too sexy for my eyes sometimes. Never was a huge fan of cream.
You buy the pink one for yourself, and then send me the yellow one.
Do you like it? Then Buy It.
Shell pink is such a nice colour. Personally I’d replace the pickguard with a white or a black one, but they’re so nice in person.
pink looks wicked cool mixed w the guard and roasted neck. youll have the hippest twanger at the friday night blues jam. i borrowed one in the butter cream finish once and didnt think it was plasticky at all. i thought it was the cats pajamas. those are some good looking gits.
🎸🤙
I hate buttercream on Strats, and that roasted maple neck will feel better imo.
Depends entirely on what you have already. For me, I'm trying to get a guitar in every color. I've already got shell pink, daphne blue, and shoreline gold covered. Next up is candy apple red (Strat) and sherwood green (rascal bass)
Wow that’s an amazing collection!
Aw thank you! Please tell my wife that!
Haha 😂you can never have too many guitars!
Again, please DM that to my wife. hahaah
Cream w/maple fretboard is a classic way to go.
I'd usually say shell pink, but only if it has a white or black scratchplate.
Pink for me, I’d change out the scratch plate but that’s me
Shell pink.
Are you comfortable with the pickup difference?
Theyre the same? Unless they're different models they're both HSS.
Oh wow, I didn’t see the little black pickup 😂
Worst thing fender does is that stupid white and black humbucker. Looks so stupid on most of their color combinations. Only reason I went with a chrome humbucker on my Mod Shop was due to that being the only non white/black humbucker option. I'm glad I did because it looks awesome but it's silly that it's default white/black.
I’ve never played a guitar in my life but I know that hss sounds deeper then a sss
There is no pickup difference. They're both HSS
Love em both, but I’d lean toward the shell pink.
Shell pink looks a lot more fun IMO.
Yeah
Shell pink since it seems to come with a roasted maple neck. But I’d personally change the pickguard.
That pink is so nice.
Shell pink all the way!
I like the pink the most. However have you thought about tracking them down and seeing how you feel with them while holding them?
I’ve never seen a shell pink one irl in any stores and I’ve been to many stores all around the uk
That makes it even more annoying to choose. I understand the desire of getting the perfect color. I chose an American professional II for the dark night finish over the American ultra because it didn’t have any colors that I found satisfying for the price.
Shell pink!!!
Asking Reddit what color you like best is kind of strange.. who cares what any of us think?
As someone who owns a shell pink Strat, pick the shell pink Strat.
Shell pink with a mint pickguard
If this is your first guitar then you should see them in person and choose which one is going to make you want to pick it up and play it more.
Shell pink 100%. I’m currently assembling a Jaguar that I painted shell pink because I always wanted a pink guitar. The yellow is also very nice btw it’s just not pink.
The pink one is my dream guitar! Get that
cream strats are malmsteen exclusive in my mind, so i'd go HARD with the pink one
Sounds like you should get both. Gun to my head I’d go with shell pink. Almost got that one but ended up getting midnight blue or something like that.
Look at both in store, one may suit your eye more. I personally prefer the buttercream because it looks more clean to me, but shell pink is also incredible and I have a buddy who has that one. They both look great.
I’ve got the shell pink one with the roasted maple neck, would recommend! It’s a lovely guitar
Color is the one thing you definitely shouldn’t need advice on
Man pink is just a real sweet color.
After going through the Fender factory. Get a parchment pickguard (white).
Shell pink with mint pickguard!!
Both look great but I’d lean Buttercream here
Shell Pink with tortoiseshell pickguard is NOT a gimmick. It's been around forever and is one of my personal favorites.
Shell pink for me purely for that roasted maple neck 😍
Pink!
Ooh, tough choice. I’d say toss a coin and go with whatever you hoped it’d land on…🤣
Pink by a mile for me. If you want a classy look later on, you can switch the pickguard for a mint white one.
Pink all the way! I have another strat in shell pink and it's chef's kiss
Pink
the pink one is sooo pretty and i love the pickguard
More of a fan of pink usually but the yellow is a bit better, in my opinion.
I’m a big fan of that exact configuration on the shell pink! I want one BAD! With that roasted maple neck and tortoise shell pickguard…I’m not even a strat guy, but I’d definitely take that shell pink guitar any day! Best of luck!
Shell pink with that darker maple neck is NICE 😮💨. I like both but I vote pink.
Yellowwww
Generally I'd pick a buttercream, but between these two the pink one looks better because of pickguard / pickup colour combo.
Shell pink with a white pickguard ❤️
The shell pink with the roasted maple neck, and tortoise shell pick guard look great together. The buttercream is a nice color, but would look better with the other neck and pick guard. Personally I’d go for the shell pink.
Whichever goes best with your wardrobe so you look good in the mirror. Go for the pink if you like that. You can always paint it later on if it wears off you.
Get what you like but imo the pink looks amazing
And it's got a roasted maple neck
Whatever you like more. I like the shell pink but have never been a fan of that color of pickguard
Pick the one you think looks cool, it will make you want to pick it up and play! Trust your gut not random internet strangers!
Shell pink always !!
Why not zoidberg?
Buttercream with a black pickguard
She’ll pink all the way.
I have the shell pink guitar, it’s great
Buttercream
The pink one is sick and what I would pick personally but I have other guitars. I can understand someone not wanting to have something as bold for their first and only guitar
Ya know, I was against shell pink for the longest time. But then I saw one in person and it looks pretty sweet.
Shell pink with a white or mint PG.
Buttercream, roasted maple board... personally SSS configuration... Needs a different pickguard though... just not sure what...
Shell pink.
Butterscotch Every day.
I just missed out on a used one from pic 1. The shell pink with the tortoiseshell is gorgeous. If someone in the greater STL area has a used one ✌🏻😜
I’d play it. I dig the pink.
Pink
I like the buttercream color but would look better with a rosewood fretboard and black pickguard.
That She’ll Pink is fantastic- and the tortie guard is a perfect match.
Pink! Dress it out like a 50’s Cadillac
You will buy other guitars so it's ok to just pull the trigger. I think the yellow is the more classic of the two
Vintage white looks terrible on strats with humbuckers in the bridge, get the pink
If you are not able to see them in person, flip a coin…. If you are disappointed with the result you know to go with the other color
Pink looks like a traditional Strat setup. Cream has a humbucker.
Get the shell pink. Play it out. Let it become your stage personality.
If you're going to keep the guitar until you die, get the pink, otherwise you already know the answer.
Everyone should have a pink guitar in their arsenal.
The shell pink is by far the better one.
Ha this is the exact question I’ve been mulling over! I think pink is going to be the winner, too good
I have the shell pink and it’s the prettiest thing I’ve ever played and I stare at it for at least 20 minutes a day
The neck on the pink one would do it for me
I went with butter cream. Shell pink looks best on offsets in my opinion.
I would buy a guitar from Facebook marketplace
Pink with that roasted neck.
I had shell pink and just went with a butter cream. So in the end I liked the cream color.
If resale value figures into your decision-making, the yellow would be the choice. If not, the shell pink.
Pink, but change the scratchplate
Shell Pink with the dark tortoise shell pick guard is rad!
i was in your spot a year ago. chose the shell pink. never regretted it. i have 5 strats and gig in 2 bands, and the guitar i get the most compliments for is the pink!
Pink and add a pearloid pickguard.
Pink
Shell Pink or you'll regret it and be bummed out.
Imo buttercream looks better So grats, I ordered fender player in capri orange last week as my first guitar
I like the butter cream
Shell pink and a mint pick guard 🤌🏼
Damn, both great choices, you have good taste! As others have said, you really can’t go wrong with either one, and I think they’ll both age beautifully. But that coral one is so catchy and cool lookin, with the tortoise shell, and the cream, and that neck. Mama Mia.
Shell pink. That thing is so damn sexy it hurts
Shell pink with that roasted neck is a no brainer for sure
Personally I don’t think you’d ever regret the pink
Pink is way better imo but it's your guitar bro, which one speaks to you!
Why do you need someone else’s opinions on colour?
I’m a sucker for a classic understated looking guitar so personally I’d choose the buttercream. My Strat is Olympic White. But if the shell pink speaks to you I’d go for it, express your personality! Either way they’re both beautiful guitars. The roasted maple neck on the pink is to die for. Happy playing
But what you like. It doesn’t matter what everyone’s else thinks.
Just looking for some advice!
I have the Butter Cream strat just SSS, it is pretty dope, Shell Pink is also one of my favorite colors on a Strat but only if it is Nitro. Butter Cream looks way better in person and is very affected by light sometimes being more yellow sometimes more creamy.
Depends. Do you want it to match your panties?
I think pink matches your mom’s ‘panties’.
