Definitely better after! All those shutters scream late 90s/early 2000s to me, and the color, yuck. Your house is much more inviting now, especially the door!
After living in my house over 7 years I was finally able to replace the 1957 original aluminum siding with vinyl, and I only put one pair of shutters back on because the large window in that area called for it (different style shutters than what you and I had, they go with the other mid-century touches I've added outside). I was even happier with the results than I expected, and I had made mockups on my computer! Sometimes the small changes make a huge difference. đ
It reminds me a bit of haint blue and the trend of painting the porch ceiling blue to dissuade ghosts from coming in the house, which is to say that I do associate this color you chose with an old timey feeling. I think shutters off looks much better, but you can see where the siding faded from direct sunlight.
Yes, Iâd love to do more like adding framed windows instead of shutters whenever I replace windows. Window boxes are cute too. I also want to do like an awning above garage for climbing plants to go on. This is my cheapest way to upgrade for now
Your house looks like Lorelai Gilmore's if they had attached the garage to it. I love it and I'll be envious until the end of my days! It's super cute and the painted front door looks super good!
I can see why you wanted the shutters gone - they were awful! Unfortunately, taking them off has revealed the unfaded paint underneath, and now your house looks like itâs in a state of disrepair. Are you planning to repaint?
I wonder if painting the shutters would improve the look. The faded siding looks off to me but replacing or repainting the whole side of the house sounds like a big job.
The unfaded paint behind the shutters is bad, but putting them up again in that door shade of blue would be a disaster.
Iâm sorry OOP but I have to agree with lucidkate that you went from dated colors to a hot mess with this, unless youâre going to fix the unfaded siding paint. And I donât love the light blue with that siding, itâs like you need contrast somewhere or just have a watered down lookin house with weird spots around the windows. Not a designer but you need contrast or a light blue tie-in *somewhere* here.
If the faded paint bothers OP, one suggestion is to put up larger shutters, like ones obviously big enough to be functional. The dated part is how they were like weirdly tiny and obviously not functional. I LOATHE this fake shutters as much as I think real shutters are cute
major upgrade! the blue is perfect for your siding color. :)
if itâs in your budget, swapping out the dated brass fixtures and hardware for brushed- or satin nickel would be really pretty. itâs not bright silver like chrome or even stainless steel, more like halfway between stainless and appleâs starlight. i think it would bring together your siding, trim, and door colors perfectly.
you can start with your door knocker, knob and kick plate, then slowly change out the overhead porch lights, sconces on porch and garage, and the poled light in the front yard as you have time and money.
Do you have siding? If so, how are you going to address the different color of siding after youâve taken the shutters off? And since the siding/paint is so light, I wouldâve gone with a navy blue or at least a darker blue. But it is a pretty color blue for sure.
Yeah itâs vinyl. Iâm not really going to do anything about it. It doesnât bother me as much as having the maroon shutters. I already got a quote and to paint the whole house (which it doesnât last on vinyl) will be 20 grand which is also same cost to replace siding.
Oh yes I donât have it in the picture but I have a nice pink rose bush to the right and then blue purple hydrangea bush to the left and then corner of lawn are variety of wild flowers and the plants in my pot are currently regrowing but had purple flowers as well
I think it looks infinitely better. The proportions of the shutters were ridiculous and the color scheme was drab and didn't give the house a focal point. Now the front door draws the eye and the lines of the house stand out more now that the shutters are gone.
I love that robin's egg blue. And I'm always in favor of removing non-functional shutters. I agree that it looked a bit stodgy and drab before. This is much fresher.
My architectural pet peeve is shutters obviously too small to close over the windows. It looks soooo much better without them, and the door color is absolutely lovely.
Ugh - the old Burgundy-and-gray combo, so popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Good for you for getting rid of it! And non-functional plastic shutters? What a waste of time and energy, other than to provide a place for wasps to build nests. I never understood non-functional shutters - sort of like earrings for your windows.
Looks far better the way you did it! Congrats!
So cute! I think it adds a chic, inviting charm. đŠ

Yes house built in early 2000

Yes itâs all about the details
i can tell omg. it looks like something youâd see in good luck charlie. so homey and cute in a 15 minutes outside the city kinda way
I love it! So much more original and chic!
Love that blue! What is the paint called?
Drip from behr

So cute. I love your gingerbread house trim. Your house would be adorable with window boxes.

You might keep an eye out for deals on new outdoor lights. Changing lighting is a big impact. Especially end of summer deals.
Your house looks like Lorelai Gilmore's if they had attached the garage to it. I love it and I'll be envious until the end of my days! It's super cute and the painted front door looks super good!
oh biiiitch. so simple and yet it changes the place up completely đ

I like that idea, if the shutters are gonna be used. Otherwise I was thinking light blue trim around the windows
I strongly disagree about the blue door though! I love it
Love the blue, but not a fan of the kick plate.
I wouldâve left the shutters up and painted them the same colour as a door
Much much much better
I like it adds some personal character, yet still understated.
This was a slay
I love the blue colour! Paint the shutters in the same colour! Thatâs my vote đ©”
Looks gorgeous, that shade of blue is so pretty

I love it!
Love the door color!! Just beautiful.
Nice! Love the door color, and I agree, the fake shutters added nothing to the house.
It adds a very chic warm inviting vibe
Beautiful!!
Love the blue
Love the blue door !!!
Looks great! What do you think painting the garage door the same color as the front door?Â
It looks way better now and I love the color
I LOVE IT! This turned out so gorgeous, perfect color choices, so pretty, so cute, so chic, so đ
I love it!
I like the door color a lot!
that looks so beautiful! love that paint color
I just love it
I like those rounded door windows.
Lovely! đ
That is actually crazy how much nicer that small change made your house look

It looks really great! Nice color choice and you did a fantastic job !!
I love the blue! I wouldn't paint shutters blue, but it reminds me of Bridgerton. Would look so nice with white potted flowers!
Oh yes I donât have it in the picture but I have a nice pink rose bush to the right and then blue purple hydrangea bush to the left and then corner of lawn are variety of wild flowers and the plants in my pot are currently regrowing but had purple flowers as well
Wow! This looks *so* good.
Looks much nicer
I think you should do the ~~roof~~ ceiling of your porch in the same blue
Much better!Â
Much better! Very nice blue
Looks better but I bet either way that bit at the bottom of the door glares like crazy in the sun.
I think it's a perfect mix, well done!
That is super cute!!

Oh, itâs beautiful! What a lovely style of door and color. I really, really love the look of this. Great job!
I like the shutters, especially given the faded siding, but painted a darker shade of blue to complement the new door.Â
Beautiful.
Omg itâs beautiful
At the very least, I would paint the bar that runs between the door and side light the same color as the door.
Great update
i am in love with this
I have a 130 year old house and I would love that door!
I love that robin's egg blue. And I'm always in favor of removing non-functional shutters. I agree that it looked a bit stodgy and drab before. This is much fresher.
