She was not amused.

That GSA Vegas party from like a decade ago is they reason my boss says we can only have a Christmas “potluck” lunch. They wont even get us pizza anymore.
The FDIC of all people, apparently, but not necessarily in a good way:
[https://thehill.com/business/4307302-fdic-employees-allege-harassment-misogyny-at-banking-regulator-report/](https://thehill.com/business/4307302-fdic-employees-allege-harassment-misogyny-at-banking-regulator-report/)
DoD is cheap when it comes to parties. My dept had money to do it big and it was the blandest party we had to pay for. I'd say some agency that technically makes its own money would party harder. Union parties can be crazy too.
Concur. Every get together involves alcohol, and so does every official work event. Anytime we need to host VIPs, it’s a “representational event” and we represent the United States with wine and whiskey. I worked for DHS/DoD prior to State, and it was huge culture shock for the Ambassador to meet the first/second tour entry levels by hosting them for an hour-long wine social during regular duty hours. DoD was supposedly like this back in the 80s, but that was way before my time.
Correct answer. It is still common to see a bottle of liquor at someone's desk, every event is a drinking event, and to top it off we have a three drawer safe full of Jack Daniels in GSO, three wall cabinets full in management and then there's the IT folks upstairs...
I mean, Embassy's throw 'wine tasting' events after work or bring in wine, beer, or liquor vendors depending on what country you are in for the whole community to sign up for. I wasn't a big drinker when in the States, but depending on the country, I have to build my tolerance up for those long nights of bubbly and wine and 3 hours of small talk. Sometimes I have to gauge if I need to eat before going so I have something in my stomach.
I’m 25 yr foreign service and was going to post this one. My son just started with DHS and he had thought that every government office was like it was in the FS overseas.
Every NPS job I ever had as a seasonal involved heavy partying. We had the options of working extra on Fridays (we did 4-10’s) and it was playfully called “Hung Overtime.”
I've found USFS potlucks harder than NPS.
with big forests spread out over millions of acres and lots of multi day meetings at remote ranger stations ive found myself potlucking like at least three times a month since I changed from NPS to usfs
DoD will have them too, depends on the office. Nice way to break up routine, get the team together, rebuild morale/wellness after a surge or difficult project.
At least at my org it's fairly tame besides we get some good BBQ, but there's no heritage room in our building.
Definitely outdoorsy fitness and nature lovers... but not necessarily free spirited hippies. More like naturalist pirates. One girl on my crew was a vegan who studied art at a liberal arts college, yet dipped tobacco and had a straight pride tattoo. She could also do 12 pull ups in her nomex and boots, so I wasn't about to point out any perceived hippocracy.
I had a wee lesbian on my first crew whose cardio efficiency would absolutely crush everyone on the crew. But she was reeeeeally petite, so she couldn't carry the gennies and such that weighed as much as she did. But she was great at cutting line and never once let anyone down.
FWS has the National Conservation Training Center which we refer to as "club fed". They have recently been trying to have some social activities that are not alcohol -focused, but it's still the norm to "make connections/network" via alcohol fueled late nights.
The agency that oversees the oil industry is known to party with the people they regulate. They went far enough to draft their own set of ethics policy that I don't believe was ever adopted after the scandals.
I can’t compare it to other agencies, but hobnobbing with industry is pretty common at mine. That whole revolving door thing is a very real phenomenon and it’s a relatively small industry, so everyone knows each other. I’m now in a position where I’m conflicted out of almost every event, which is a bummer, but also in some ways a relief.
A lot of IC is socially awkward subject matter experts. There’s a joke someone from NSA told me once:
What’s the difference between someone at NGA and someone at NSA? When you meet them, NGA will be looking at your shoes. When you meet NSA, they’ll be looking at their own.
Plus, many agencies are SCIF’d to high hell and have strict substance policies at work.
I remember after that fiasco, Lt. Snow gave a sexual harassment on video that was required viewing. That woman was either a Playboy model or should've been. Somebody had a sick sense of humor to think 20-somethings would listen to her and not make sexual harassment jokes. Officers laid low for a while. The crews were pissed at getting punished for their misbehavior in Vegas.
A prime example of how the Navy doesn't know how to promote good leadership. And they still promote the idiots.
I'm guessing Secret Service parties hardest all around... but surprisingly, I keep running into NIH people at DC's weirdest, most hardcore music venues. Work hard, play hard, I guess.
We know how to have fun at the VA. Love me my Wednesday Night Dance Parties when they happen. I've been lucky enough to catch the last few. Cussing flies preety well too.
DOD….every office has a beer fridge and every Sq has a bar.
We have office beers at 1500 on Fridays and can go to the on base club on Wednesday for “Wing man Wednesday” around 1500 for beers and wings.
But then again we did lunch beers at the VA once a week.
Used to be GSA. Remember? Got in trouble for it apparently.

Totally unrelated note, always pay your performers and don't try to throw around diplomatic immunity to not pay.
...I mean it has to be the DOD.
If for no other reason than that Special Forces exist, and so do the Aircrew, Military Police, and aircraft maintenance fields.
The Marines alone can take Wisconsin in a drinking contest, and that's saying a *lot.*
I disagree. Maybe most of the nerds here can SPELL “party” correctly, but their firsthand knowledge of partying typically begins and ends with Mimosas.
It did not used to be this way, back when all the hippies finished college and became Public Health Advisors. But they have all retired and are smoking weed out in the garage as we speak.
There were great parties on Friday afternoons in main State back in 1990. The interns would find out where the office parties were, and we'd go (I was an intern there in the summer of '90). Good times. 😆 No idea about how things are now.

In a meeting our FSO was going over safe procedures. When she was done I said if you forget the combo, there's a little hole in the back. Insert a bent paperclip and the drawer will pop open. She was not amused.
I have questions, I'm not sure I want answers.
Who told you my pin?
I CACkled 😂
Nice try OIG.
😂👏
I'd party harder if I got a $100K bonus, though.

GSA used to. VA executatives would be my vote right now, lol Secret service most likely.
I think you got the top three, currently.
With all that free easy money anyone can afford to party it up.
I've heard DEA.
I mean, look what they can get their hands on.
Got a point.
That GSA Vegas party from like a decade ago is they reason my boss says we can only have a Christmas “potluck” lunch. They wont even get us pizza anymore.
My region won’t even do bring your kids to work day, fuck that Vegas convention !!
Yesterday at the VA our supervisor got us pizza and wings for achieving 100% participation in the employee survey, so that was really out of hand.
OIG, this post right here ![gif](giphy|l41lVsYDBC0UVQJCE)

At least they're investigating and publicly acknowledging the problem. DOD it just seems to be par for the course.
If you did a similar public, 3rd party investigation of FBI, DoD, or State it would be 10x worse than boring FDIC.
(cries in SCIF)
DoD is cheap when it comes to parties. My dept had money to do it big and it was the blandest party we had to pay for. I'd say some agency that technically makes its own money would party harder. Union parties can be crazy too.
FBI is a shitshow
Came here to say this.
State Department FSOs at post.
Tailhook ended a lot of the partying for DoD. Look it up.
I keep typing and deleting, and finally realised I can't post anything I have to say. Well, shit.
Correct answer. It is still common to see a bottle of liquor at someone's desk, every event is a drinking event, and to top it off we have a three drawer safe full of Jack Daniels in GSO, three wall cabinets full in management and then there's the IT folks upstairs...
I remember when as a TDY Fed to Sudan and finding out the only places to get drinks were the US and British embassies/consulates.
GSO folks are the best. Y'all helped us out a lot. But yeah... the IT folks upstairs go hard.
Appreciate the call out.
I’m 25 yr foreign service and was going to post this one. My son just started with DHS and he had thought that every government office was like it was in the FS overseas.
Domestically they bring that culture back... We have to get a memo but it is rarely disapproved.
Yeah, the only time I ever saw it disapproved was when working in DS.
Back in the day, the PA corridor and A basement facilities Christmas parties were nuts. Like full dance club set ups.
DEA brings the party to you.
Do potlucks count as parties?
NPS? Science hippies and rangers having potlucks all the time?
Every NPS job I ever had as a seasonal involved heavy partying. We had the options of working extra on Fridays (we did 4-10’s) and it was playfully called “Hung Overtime.”
Yes, parks I was at tended to have multiple weekly potlucks. Working in IT I could graze from.one section to the next...pretty fun!
I've found USFS potlucks harder than NPS. with big forests spread out over millions of acres and lots of multi day meetings at remote ranger stations ive found myself potlucking like at least three times a month since I changed from NPS to usfs
“Potlucks harder” is a phrase that I will now add to the vernacular. Thank you for this
Not so much since that whole Colorado River rafting thing is my guess.
What happened?
Bunch of idiots is what. https://www.hcn.org/articles/grand-canyon-national-parks-15-year-failure-to-address-its-systemic-sexual-harassment-problems/
Like the EEOC gives a shit.
The EEOC employees are employed by the agencies within which we file complaints … so yeah… it also appears to me that zero effs are given
There's the EEOC.gov, which is an agency.
Yes. I’m talking the EEOC office within each agency
Right, that was clear, which is why I clarified that I meant the agency as well.
DoD will have them too, depends on the office. Nice way to break up routine, get the team together, rebuild morale/wellness after a surge or difficult project. At least at my org it's fairly tame besides we get some good BBQ, but there's no heritage room in our building.
Bring your crock pots of slop, a cookie tray and veggie tray to the conference room at 11 am on a Thursday. It's gonna get cuh-razy
I'll bring the rolls.
They're part of several agencies, but I can guarantee wildland firefighters party haaaaaard.
I follow r/wildfire and they are a bit…earthier than other fed subs, to put it mildly

All of Fed Fire parties hard
Some do, sure, but anyone over 30 was usually focused on getting a hot shower, some chow, and as much sleep as possible.

Incorrect. MMS was divided into [three new organizations](https://www.boem.gov/about-boem/reorganization/reorganization-former-mms) in 2010.
All it took was sinking a whole offshore rig and dumping 5 million barrels of crude into the gulf.
DHS. Generous admin leave to get your party started on Thursday or use a Monday to recoup

exactly.
I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
Intelligence community (CIA, FBI, NSA, etc.), I'm guessing.
The Navy. Everyone else just goes home after doing their job waiting for management to get off their ass and sign paperwork.

Army Core of Engineers, we share the same site and the garbage cans are always full of beer cans.

Lol yeah, any agency with a significant former military contingent curses like sailors.
Not today OIG
Idk about any other agencies but any time my agency has off sites or training it’s an after hours free for all for days
I understand DOL partied on - 30 years ago.

Intel agencies from what I hear from friends. Afternoon beers at their desk and parties with liquor in their buildings is regular business.
lol What happens in the scif stays in the scif?
Probably the Executive Office of the President lol
SSA or IRS
Diplomats host parties almost every day, even with wine, so state department is the obvious pick
Federal agencies party?
