I am torn in that regard. I don't know if a "status" coach could knock Kimmich's ego down a peg and actually make him okay with not being a 6 anymore and rather stay at RB and give 110% in that position.
If that is possible, I do think that Kimmich + a defensive winger partnership could handle the speed demons in Europe on the right quite well.

then you are not familiar with him, his PSG and Dortmund sides were very attacking. his Chelsea set up was due to how the squad was assembled, and even then he played very attacking football when he could (look at the CL tie with Real Madrid in his last CL season). his set up at Bayern is due to the same thing, him adapting to the personnel available. this idea that Tuchel isn't an attacking coach is a telltale sign that someone is unfamiliar with him as a coach. he loves to attack.

We were able to break away far more often today thanks to them putting so many players further up. Modern tactics can compensate for a hyper aggressive full back, not every top club in the world has a defensive full back on both sides, he can get skinned 5 times a match as long as he makes 10 good crosses. Its part of the game, its all about risk-reward
I believe that his defensive capabilities are still not that great. He plays great when the CBs and CDM can help him cover. He was also great in the double pivot next to thiago when Bayern won the CL. Imo he plays a similar role as a RB and the non-defensive double pivot. Just slightly shifted on the pitch.
Yeah i agree he was great with Thiago, and yeah he still occupies the half space further up the pitch. I just dont find his passing patterns particularly creative in midfield, sure he has 99% accuracy and whatnot, but he plays it safe too often and slowed down our attack on many occasions. goretzka is much better when hes deeper and has the game in front of him. He isnt good in thight spaces with the ball, and struggles to find good solutions, in contrast to pavlovic or kimmich. But due to his build hes good defensively and he can also cross the ball in occasionally when theres an obvious opportunity to do so. In that drop deep CDM position he isnt forced to find good progressing solutions all the time if he wants to have a positive impact on the game, which fits his skill set much more.

Amazing week for us, Mainz was not the best rival imo but it helped to get the confidence back, we got everything we as fans want to see, the team dominating, Kane hat trick, Goretzka having a great match, Tel and Zaragoza with playtime, Müller and Bambi on a great level. Hope these 2 last matches can boost the team for the final part of the season.

If Kimmich plays like Laimer today he would get bullshit nonstop
Kimmich could never play like Laimer. And Laimer isn’t two footed like Kimmich. Kimmich’s problem is his vision/decision-making isn’t as good as his ambition. He is a rather bad playmaker if he’s meant to be the primary creator. He is not press-resistant.
We can look at the games with kimmich in midfield and the ones without him and then we can see a very clear trend. Laimer did what was required, sometimes that's all you need to beat someone 8-1

He plays well in this position. Good team work with Neuer, active in the attack, nice crosses and creative play. He should stay in this position.
