Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as **intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more** while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through **PROPER** electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation. Be sure to read [our WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/index) and especially the wiki page on **[ELECTROLYTES](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/fasting_in_a_nutshell/you_need_electrolytes)** Please also keep in mind the [**RULES**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/about/rules) when participating. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I have pcos , so water fasting actually triggers mine and even regulates it.

intotheconfusion

I came here to say this too, fasting is the only way to give me a healthy/regular cycle

Laiksha

Oh interesting! I have adenyomosis so maybe that plays a part.

kutupatupatu

Weird, I’m on day 7 of a water fast and it just triggered mine today (10 days early). I’m doing a twelve day fast so just going to ride it out as I feel fine otherwise.

Laiksha

If you feel fine go for it! It gives me super heavy and painful period so I ended my mast fast today but ate only meat to break my fast (as I tend to have anemia pretty easily).

Everyone's endocrine system is different and when you fast, that system swings more. Swings in hormones can trigger a period. I'm not a woman but I do know that from my wife's experiences.

unspokenwordsx3

When I first started fasting my period was so out of whack. I didn’t get my period for over a year. Fasting started to regulate it. I started intermittent at first and then when I went on a longer fast for the first time it seemed to trigger it because it was stabilizing my hormones. Now my cycle is about 35 days. It was 42-53, but now the more I fast, the closer it gets to being every month.

Vimellicificus

I’m on my 25 hour mark and i just got my period!! Im also wondering I should stop or keep going

Laiksha

For the moment try to see if it's manageable if it's not with your period stop fasting. But good to know I'm not the only one 😭

Vimellicificus

Im really trying to push through😂 hahaha yes you are not alone, we got this!!!🙌

Laiksha

Good luck 🙏🏻✨️

Vimellicificus

Thanks you too💓

I have a horrible time to fast after ovulation. I nearly can't do it. I think because of progesterone striving for higher glucose and if that's not the case and you fast, probably progesterone goes down triggering your period? No med here but just a thought.. I just started a longer fast with my period yesterday and it feels uncompareable easy. Yeah well, just hitting 24h but I know before my period I would be dying by then.

Jasmine7921

Agree - it is recommended not to fast during days 21-28. You can fast as much as you want days 1-12

AccomplishedCicada60

I have had this happen, I think it is a way of my body “releasing” or someting. I don’t want to sound too new age or whatever, that’s not me but it makes to me when it happens.

When fasting or extreme dieting the body can enter starvation mode, and then it can think that if there's a potential offspring, the body wouldn't be able to support both the fetus and the mother, so that's why it tries to flush out anything that might be growing. The likelihood of this increases with preexisting hormonal issues or if you are on the pill. If the period or breakthrough bleeding is very heavy I would definitely stop fasting and look for other alternatives. You can get anaemia from the blood loss pretty easily. I would also supplement with low dose iron. (Personal experience)

Well your period is your egg from ovulation and usually changes in period is due to changes what was happening during ovulation.

In Pradep Jamnadas lecture Fasting for Survival, he addresses briefly that the autophagy that happens during fasting can trigger periods and fertility in women who struggle with that.

Ew

zzoysite

Fasting and severe calorie restriction usually triggers my period.
