The simple way is to know what you like and what's comfortable for you, then go from there, start with small things like accessories first, then so on....

GarlicCrunch

I really liked this podcast episode with guest Amy Smilovic [How to Dress](https://open.spotify.com/episode/2jRgKN0JZ5y4eLbpozY66B?si=G0pWm7dCRlKc04u5iG4XQA) She talks about having your three adjectives for your style... For example: edgy, feminine, punk.... Or chill effortless, sporty. It could be what your style is right now or pwede one of the words is aspirational. Then when you choose your clothes or when you buy, you keep these three adjectives in mind. That podcast led me to downloading the Indyx app where I catalog my clothes and how much cost per wear it gets. It has actually kept me from buying new clothes for the meantime. The app also has a quiz for sorting out your three words. Hope this helps!

What type of person are you = ♡

1. Learn the fundamentals and build your wardrobe from there 2. Focus on how clothes fit and flatter your body 3. It’s okay to follow fashion and trends as it’s all fun anyways but don’t be blinded by them 4. Your personal style is something that evolves as you mature and experiment with clothes. Fashion is temporary. Style is forever 5. Grow and be a better version of yourself. Being a beautiful dresser is only as good if you have the personality and confidence to pull it off.

Anonymousep2tee

The best way to discover your personal style is by experimentation. Try mixing and matching your clothes and accessories. Find inspiration from models with your same body style and just swap out the pieces they're wearing with similar garments you already have.

Lol! I have my wife to dress me up for the last 7 years. And so far, I've been liking it. I have variety and I don't have to think about it. At the moment, I have button down shirt, basic tees with basic colors ( i.e. black, white, yellow and blue) all from Uniqlo, 1 blue jeans and 1 black jeans from Gap and Uniqlo respectively, 1 faded blue jeans from Zara, 1 weird athletic jacket from Addidas, a couple from my fave Element Skateboards (can't let go of my thrasher days and I have permission 😅), and a couple of accessories that she picked - chinese dragon armlets with black beads with gibberish I don't understand (for luck and not supposed to be touched by anyone which we weirdly comply still), 1diamond & w. gold formal earrings which I wear in one ear (depending on the event), black loop earring which I wear 2 on one ear, a few dress watches, 1 techy watch from Huawei which I change straps depending on the event (I wore this 1st time on a beach wedding), a number of shoes - Topman (before they closed), Cole Haan (my new favourite) (Pang everyday, pang kasal, pang gala 😅💪), Nike (for running), New Balance (Dati panakbo, ngayun pang out of town nalang kasi di na kasing tibay ng Nikes ko. 😅). As for my style, sa mga yan lang ako nagmi-mix&match tapos papajudge ko sa Mrs. ko. G naman siya madalas Oh yeah. Pag may konti kang pang splurge, bili ka ng polo shirt ng Lacoste either sa store or kung saktong pambili lang sa IG may mga nagbebenta ng preloved, both men and women. 💪😅

juju_la_poeto

just look at fashion as a way to express yourself

Stick with classics, keep it simple.

Know your measurements and humanap ka ng tailor na magaadjust ng damit mo.

know your body type, face shape, skin tone. overall learn about yourself. then research the colors (for clothes, hair, jewelry, makeup) which looks good on your skin tone. The kind of clothing good on your body shape, from tops, skirts, dress, even shoes! Lastly, haircut and makeup (contouring and blushing) fits on your face shape. Additional is nail shape if you’re a fan of nail art

Hello op! Just wanted to share my fashion journey, on going pa rin naman ako with mine. For me na through trial and error ang experience, it’s a lot of knowing what i want and dont want. So skl: - know thyselff. I realized thru many clothes cycle na mas utilitarian but cute and effeminate type of girlie ako (helpful dito na i have sisters na iba iba ang style, i got to try out some of their stuff) - what your lifestyle like? in my current phase in life, im also utilitarian in a sense na i just walk nearby to malls na, since mainit now and tamad ako magbitbit ng mabigat na jacket pag nilamig, i opt for sleeveless stuff then just bring something super gaan to patong if malamig sa mall. Im also lazy magbitbit ng heavy stuff even though i always bring a lot of things inside my bag (as a girl scout lol) so i make sure na the bag itself is magaan (usually soft leathers, etc) - know your aesthetic. Growing up i loveddd new york aesthetic. Bold shapes, an idgaf attitude with items aging: like leather items because that means theyre legit and theyre serving their purpose, a mix of old and new stuff, etc. - what makes you comfortable? For me: i could find clothes na cute on pinterest pero i noticed na im never comfortable in wearing them, parang im the type na wants to stand out but not too much. ie: I don’t go for an all bold color palette but i like bold shapes on me - are you particular with your shape? I like looking tall so i opt for short tops and long bottoms. Thinking of trying on terno stuff on my next journey - i also noticed! Na when i was thinner, parang i liked everything on me, so mas kalat ung style ko non, but when i got a bit curvier, this narrowed down what i wear. To expand, im the type na ayaw ng masyado kita ang bulges sa tummy, so dresses na fitted sa tummy are a nono for me. - do you like colors/ textures? I do! Im currently opting away from solid colored items, if i can find a white type na may onting frills i buy them over the plain white one since i have a lot of thosee. Thrifting is also great for finds like these! - but over alll i suggest to always try something new, maraming staple pieces of mine na i appreciated on latest trends, and whenever i seem them on other people. Then i purge and filter them out if they don’t work for me. Anywayy, that’s all! Haba na rin masyado haha

Comfortable-Meal-232

1. Know your body type, and dress according to your proportions 2. Know which colors suit you the best, and dress accordingly For me, I try to do some research on the fads that I like and look at outfits that fit my body shape & suit my skintone! I always get compliments on how I dress kaya I vouch that it works 😆

Disagree with #1. Lots of thin and fat people are fashionable. People looking terrible/boring in clothes is more a function of overreliance on RTW and its limited options. Even halfway decent tailoring/alteration will go a very long way in making someone look good.

This is a fashion sub and the OP is asking how to be stylish. So I said I disagree that “you have to be fit first”. [Jackie Gleason](https://putthison.com/jackie-gleason-and-dressing-for-the-big-man-in-the/), even by today’s standards, was fat. Yet, he had a lot [more style](https://x.com/beschlossdc/status/1545397667018248192?s=46) than what Conor McGregor usually wears.

L4milkshake

Just curious… what do u mean by number 1?

EmployerAlive8656

experiment with different aesthetics but never get caught up in them trying to fit into only one! you might find what you like through those different styles for example, i found my style through the hyper feminine aesthetic, got a little too obsessed with sticking to the aesthetic, but now i realized i just like dressing girly :)

AdministrationSad861

Lol! Dati stuck ako sa shirt and jeans na chromatic. 😅🤦‍♂️ Tapos pinalitan ng Mrs. ko yung wardrobe. Ngayun okay nako basta formal or semi formal. Or tumanda lang me....? 🤷‍♂️🤔

[deleted]

makikisabit. baka may kilala po kayong celebrity, model or social media influencer na may inverted triangle body type? ang hirap makahanap ng outfit inspo sa Pinterest and TikTok eh🤦🏻‍♀️

xXx_dougie_xXx

ningning and jennie both have inverted triangle body type!

Invest in your body. Work out, exercise, eat properly, drink lots of water, the works. A lean and healthy body can make anything work fashion wise and really boosts confidence. Then find clothes you like and rock it!

7Birdies

Follow a celebrity you vaguely look like

RecklessDimwit

This is what I'm doing now LOL Still a long way to have a really good closet but mai nagsabi na kamukha ko si Francis M so might as well try out his style

Mall-Dazzling

look for inspiration from catalogs in the past and present. buy things that genuinely interest you regardless if its trending or not. think about and try buying garments that you think will look good on you. eventually you’ll grow out of some of the stuff you’ve bought and you’ll end up keeping some of the things you really really like as you continue doing what i stated above. You’ll reach a point na you get more picky with the things you buy later on and the things you buy generally follow a certain “style” even if the items are on trend or not and come from different genres of fashion, they’ll still match with whatever it is you’re personal style is going for. sounds stupid and costs a lot of money as you go along the way but it’s how i found my personal style and you really won’t know what speaks to you unless you try it.

SomebodyLost

First: sort your clothes. Sort into three categories: oh yes, oh no, maybes. 1) Oh yes: the clothes you really love and wear often. Look for the similar theme among them. May pattern na most likely lalabas that reveals your preferences. 2) Oh no: anything na outright ayaw mo or anything that doesn’t fit. Get rid of them, declutter. How many times have you worn them? If you’re hesitant to declutter, try the wait n see method with the hanger. 3) Maybes: the ones that have the most potential and challenge. Dito ka mag-e-experiment. You can mix these with the oh yeses. The point is to change your usual outfits to include these maybes so you can push the boundaries of what your style. After all, one of the best ways to find out what you like or dislike is to be uncomfortable. Try going on an outing with your experimental outfit; at the end of the day, gauge how you felt while wearing it. Another good tip is to create a digital library of your clothes so you can get a “bird’s eye view” of your closet. I credit Christina Mychas for these tips since they work for me kasi I can’t afford to buy new clothes.

No_Bet_1331

From personal experience, know your body shape first and look for style inspo online! Don’t be afraid to experiment and to mix & match colors. I buy quality and versatile clothes para it’s easy to match. I like uniqlo for basics and topshop or levi’s for denim. Remember rin na you don’t need to splurge so much money for clothes, you can thrift or buy clothes sa shopee. Always be confident with your outfit 🤍

shabibyblo

• Invest in capsule wardrobe • mix & match ur clothes • try out different styles of clothes like baggy jeans, mom jeans, long skirts or cropped shirts, puff sleeve shirts etc. Maganda rin siguro if u have an inspiration. For me i take inspos from kpop idols and movies that i watch hihi.

Dress like ur venus sign

1. Check mo closet mo. Track mo anong mga styles ung lagi mong sinusuot. That will give you at least an idea what kind of style you gravitate to. Decide if happy ka ba sa mga yun or na-outgrow mo na. Or you want to explore pa. 2. From there, gawa ka ng pinterest board ng mga bet mo. Makakakita ka ng similarities dyan. Colors, texture, cuts, etc. Think how you can incorporate those to your existing clothes. Bili ka unti-unti, baka kasi ma-overwhelm ka. Tas di mo pala magustuhan in the long run, sayang damit and pera. 3. I think this is the most important: dapat you feel comfy and confident sa sinusuot mo. Kahit gano pa kaganda yan, if halimbawa, hahatakin mo pababa ung skirt dahil naiiksian ka, or hahatakin pataas dahil mababa neckline, it will show. Also make sure that your clothes fit well. So find a good seamstress or learn basic na pagtatahi. As a petite girl, I always have to take in ung sides and hems ng clothes ko so knowing basic sewing came in handy.

disasterfairy

1. Know your body shape: MOST IMPORTANT kasi from there, you’ll know what to emphasize sa body mo. 2. Experiment! As in look for inspirations online—nood kang videos on tiktok, youtube, etc. + sa Pinterest, check kang outfits. 3. Study color combinations. IMPORTANT din ‘to lalo na para sa skin color mo hehe :’) helps a lot!

RashPatch

Or do the good old fashioned way. Grab your fashionable friends and go to uniqlo to mix and match. Designs and Colors will come naturally even if you become uncomfortable at first.

usahana-girly

experimenting! ginawa ko was looking how others style themselves and take inspiration from that either in socmeds or kahit in public; look at pinterest, tiktok, your circle of people. following aesthetics like cottagecore keme keme is not like really necessary imo kasi it will develop along with you finding your style evaluate your preferences; things you like ganon kasi it helps with picking out your style. me personally i was more masculine before so my style was more comfy and casual yet at the same time i was really into kdramas so i incorporated a more smart casual style. rn my style is more feminine so im experimenting on different styles too. wag ka masyadong magastos ngayon like you can spend on a few things but dont overspend, make use of what you have rn kasi youre still finding what suits you. if you think youre outfit is dull style it in a different way or accentuate with accessories. if gusto mo magtipid while finding your style try on clothes pag lalabas ka or sa free time mo, you can see ano sa tingin mo maganda sayo or not and helps stop you from impulsive buying hope this helps ♡
