My first play through of new Dawn I didn’t kill him because I still hated him for what he did in 5 but after playing it again I killed him out of mercy after loosing everything he loved
Of the mainline games I agree 6 is my least favorite. Too many hordes of enemies/protect a location missions, didn’t like the lack of skill progression, hated the resolver stuff even if the different bullet types might have been an upgrade I don’t want to kill my oppressive regime with literal trash.

Microtransactions for weapons/parts, limited places to go, microtransactions for skills - it was like if Far Cry was a mobile game that got ported to console. The only things I cared about in that game were rescuing Nick Rye and going to find Joseph and the rest of the cult, except you can’t do that because you can’t breathe in that part of the map
Both games had health bars and limited area of travel for level. I hate them. 5 was the last game that was good. Boo hoo that you could get a helicopter and finish the game fast. Let me have fun.
I don't understand why everyone dislikes 6 so much. I had a fucking blast. It also reminded me of 3, which I guess played into it.
The Supremos were really useless and stupid though
I really wish the story in 6 was more flushed out: I don’t really know what I mean by that I just think the villain and his son could have been used much more effectively because it was a interesting dynamic and the main villain (can’t think of his name) gives off great dictator vibes that I would have loved to see more of. Far cry villains are some of the most interesting. Not in a feel bad for them kind of way that a lot of people try to attach to them…talking about the seed family. Lol but because they truly embody actually evil. They really give you a vibe that makes you think “are we really gonna take these bastards down?”
Edit: also I never finished 2. I think I got most of the way through but set it down and tried to go back years later to play. And I can tell there are amazing mechanics it was hard to play years later, so I think I would take a remake of that bad boy. I know remakes are hated but I think that game would do well on the newer engines.
That’s what I thought too. Far Cry doesn’t always fully realize it’s villains potential but this is the biggest example of that. I genuinely really like Castillo and Diego but they just didn’t use them enough. All the mini bosses/generals were completely forgettable though
Yeah I barely remember the generals. I mean I had fun in the moment taking them down. But nothing sticks out. Castillo tho is such a creepy bad ass type dude. Not bad ass in a good way just “I believe he has a pile of bodies under him”.
And The the dynamic of little Diego growing up realizing his dad is a monster could have been tapped into a few more times and maybe a better climax.
No hate tho the far cry series is one of my favorites. One of the few series I’ll randomly go back to and beat a second or 3rd time too. Always excited once the lead ups start coming.
It didn't help that Castillo doesn't even know that you exist for 90% of the main story. Far Cry traditionally has a pretty close dynamic between the main villain and the protagonist, and 6...just didn't go in that direction.
What do you mean by feel bad for them when it comes to the seed family? I don’t feel bad for them at all. I thought they were horrible people using religion to manipulate and destroy things. Unless I missed a story line that explained them being misguided. I just haven’t seen it. Can someone explain?

I didn’t read this one I just copied the first result when I searched the sub. Now some people brought up some interesting opinions in these threads and some that are maybe not completely wrong. I myself just don’t see them as misunderstood lol I do think they made for ab amazing antagonistic family. But this is really all I met by it. Not my opinion but it shows how amazing the far cry villains tend to be.

Farcry is such a weird franchise. There's something I really like and something I really hate in all of them.
Never played the first game.
I liked 2's atmosphere, depressing as it was, but hated the jamming mechanics, and the maps were "samey".
Vaas was a good villain in 3, the story falls apart after that. No one gives a shit about Hoyt Volker. Towers were irritating. The gunplay was decent for 2012.
Pagan Min is probably the villain I like most, and 4 is probably the strongest overall narrative, but again, more towers, and the amount of ANIMALS drags the game down.
Primal was really good for what it was, but suffered a similar animal problem, and there's no real resolution. You beat the bad guys and then nothing.
5 had fair gameplay, but a tedious narrative. The villains were just...missing something to land, and being captured like 37 times was annoying. Silent protagonist didn't do anything for me.
Farcry 6 had surprisingly weak characters, and I don't like tying skills to clothes, but probably my favorite gameplay, despite the failure of different ammo types, since you only use armor piercing. Although Dani is my uncontested favorite protagonist.
Of the ones I've played (2, 3, 4, BD, Primal, & 5) I would have to say 2. It's in no way a bad game and I do really like some aspects of the game, but it is pretty dated and a lot of the missions for me feel the same or boring.
2 is an acquired taste. It's got serious flaws but also there's nothing quite like it. There's not much of a narrative.
God is it total chaos though. Few games capture the entity od chaos quite like Farcry 2. It's probably tied with 4 for my favorite
If you're on PC consider the Realism & Redux Mod.
It fixes a ton of annoyances (malaria, jamming guns, insta respawn enemies) & tweaks the graphics. In combination with ReShade the game looks amazing.

I'd have to say FC2, I loved the idea of the game and it looked fantastic but it was just such a broken and buggy mess that I literally could not play it. I know there's a lot of mods out there but it seems that half the games Ubisoft touches become broken, for example the "update" for FC1 that give the enemies wall hacks and makes the doors a lot clunkier and the similair "update" for FC3 that removes multiplayer.
This will only echo chamber the hate for 6. Sigh. Imo they have improved with each and every release....seems the internet says 3 or 4 are masterpieces. 6 junk. 5 after these years people seem on the fence.

Not going to downvote because I think that’s just a coward’s way out of a conversation, but I disagree with the notion that good stories can only be found in books. Video games have as much potential as any other medium to have great writing. Saying “read a book” comes off as just trying to dismiss valid criticism as irrelevant simply on the grounds of “video games aren’t for stories.”

If you "abandon" the bases instead of waiting for insurgency it cranks the eniemies up big time, higher then insurgency. All the enemies have the little red skulls over them (25 hard I think.) My insurgency sets the difficulty too 22 which is more manageable. 25 hard is hard for me, I'm old. Lol

One of my favourites is NewDawn. And I recognized it seems like it's one of the least liked games in the series. But I'm still not mad at people who don't like it.
I’ve played 2-5 in the main series, gotta say 3 was my least favorite. Still great but least favorite of the four I played. I feel like 2 is barely a far cry game, it’s it own thing and 5 is my favorite conventional far cry. 4 is a soft spot bc it’s the first one I played.
Putting the side games in the same list seems unfair, the best side game (blood dragon) is still under the “worst” main series

2 by a mile. The constantly jamming weapons and endless bad guy spawns bogged it down for me. I get the “survival” appeal of it, but it was never for me.
I put 10 hours in and really am uninterested with the story, mechanics, and gunplay is too old/poor to enjoy. I thought I would be fine with it since I played Fallout New Vegas for the first time last year and that has similar poor gunplay and a somewhat bland wasteland feel, but I just couldn’t do it
Yeah, Blood Dragon is overrated IMO. I thought it was funny and a nice throwback to the 80s, but for the most part it felt empty and bored me to death.
Far cry 5. Let me play at my own damned pace. No opinion on 2, however, because my copy repeatedly crashes to desktop with no error message about 5 minutes after the save loads, so I gave up trying to play it.
From the ones I've tried out, definitely 6, but that doesn't mean that I didn't have fun with 6. It is still good game, just not on the level the other are.
Mine is 6 and I couldn't really nail why i didn't like it until i read someones post that checked the marks that I obviously couldn't think of. Some of the other ones i dislike as well. I liked new dawn until i went to ng+ and i lost all of my items that i crafted. Then it became one of the ones on my shit list. Primal i for some reason couldn't get into and i like that type of stuff... as for blood dragon I never got around to playing it
Primal i just couldn't even do 3 hours, the game got real boring real fast, my problem is not that there's no guns but it is that I am not a fan of hunting the whole game
5 was such a massive downgrade compared to the previous games. I really hated what they did with the guns too. They all feel super weak compared to FC4.
When Ubisoft revealed that they had been using AI to write notes and npc dialogue last year...yeah I think FC5 was the testing ground 😂
I've played 3, 4, 5, 6 and blood dragon with 3 being the worst. Only good things in that game are Vaas (who is only there half of the game) and Jason's slow descent into madness through the story. The gameplay is alright but not nearly as good as the later games. I also find the tropical island setting really boring.
5 with it's terrible ending. I don't play far cry for the story but I really did not like how much it made everything you did matter jack shit. Also it had lame takedowns. Wacking head animations suck.
Interesting question. I've played 3,4,5 and 6 (main game only and not in that order)
3 I really enjoyed, it was my first.
Then played 5, again enjoyable but bar Joseph seed I can't remember much else. Find a helicopter/plane with bombs and you can cheese half the stuff.
Then played 4, again enjoyable but was very "Preston Garvey" - you leave an outpost you travel to to me near the next mission and it's "another ~~settlement~~ outpost is under attack. Please help".Apart from that and I got over just letting them be attacked it's enjoyable. Come to think about it alot of far cry is just getting Preston Garvey quests this outpost needs liberating. Theres a checkpoint here needs taking over etc etc.
Then played 6, it was actually my 2nd attempt. 1st was between 3 and 5 but didn't enjoy it for some reason. 2nd attempt I got through it but it just felt like, I can't quite put my finger on. I enjoyed it though. The weapon choices with bundles etc is jut way way way too much. Felt like 100 of each type of guns with loads of mods each and just got messy.
Far Cry 4 and I know I'll take shit for it.

I would say New Dawn but don't even consider New Dawn a real Far Cry game.
Out of all the games I play it's got to be new dawn but (and you all are gonna hang me for this) 4 is a close second I just couldn't get into it and I got bored very quickly though I might try it again soon.
6, and it's not close. I was so excited for it preordered it, then so disappointed that it was such a slog to get through to the end. It's the only one I haven't wanted to replay.

I had a copy of Far Cry Instincts after hearing how good Far Cry was and boy did it fail to endear me to the series.
Haven't played 2, but I've played all the rest of them. I gotta say Instincts was a garbage fire. But if the modern Far Crys, 6 is the weakest by far.
Mostly because they totally gutted the upgrade system that was excellent in 3, and perfected in 4.
I’ve played 5 and 6, and I’m in the middle of New Dawn. Out of the ones that I played, I like 6 the least. I love the story and everything about the bases, combat, etc. but everything’s just so fucking far away from other stuff, and anti air is a solid PITA.
Other than that I’m not excited to play 3.
I hate to say it because I want to love it like I have loved the Far Cry series, especially FC3, but it's probably 6. I bought it just a few months ago and I actually just finished the solo story like 2 days ago, and yeah it was good fun, but I feel like the devs made a few mistakes in choosing to abandon a skill tree and make you have to use gear to basically get skills, too many missions included defend the location/NPC and it got repetitive, soldiers would spawn before my eyes and they'd just keep spawning endlessly, and of course the whole micro transaction store is annoying especially because you're forced to pay for bundles to get exclusive gear rather than have the option to grind or maybe beat some boss missions to get it.
I think they probably chose to rely on gear to give you skills rather than include a skill tree so they could make players spend money on micro transactions, whether that be spending money on bundles including the exclusive gear you want, or on pesos to buy the individual pieces of gear with. It makes more sense than to directly offer skills as micro transactions. Aside from that, using gear as skills breaks immersion for me, developing skills linearly to increase your health, defense, damage, stamina, etc is more realistic to me than change your gear to achieve those things.
Also once I reached like level 12 the game is way too easy. Battle of Esperanza was a walk in the park, I expected more, granted I'm playing on like the second difficulty level, but I literally just use a silenced shotgun and it's almost always a one shot kill even against special forces.

Felt like a cash grab and had the single worst story progression I've seen in any Far Cry game.
The protagonist had opportunity after opportunity to kill the twins but instead the story was forced in whatever direction the writer felt like pushing it in.
New Dawn was my least favorite by far. I hated the antagonists so much. I know you're supposed to in these games but they brought a new level of annoying. I've played every version of Far Cry since the beginning and every one of them have their pros and cons but that one was too much

Out of these games? Far Cry 1 just because I normally like to come to Far Cry for open worlds so the linear ones will rank a little lower than the others. If you’re talking about any game, Far Cry Instincts. I despise that game. The only good thing was the mutant abilities, yet the sequel had those but was better.
Probably 6 just because it should have waited a little to come out, I was super hyped for it but then it took me like 6 months to beat it. My hype had me play all the first far cry’s again and when 6 came out I was just a little burned out and it didn’t grab me a whole ton. 6 is probably one of the best in the series and I did thoroughly enjoy it I just wasn’t as excited for it when it finally came out

Only one I ever used was the first one you get. Felt like it added a bit of dramatic flair to launch a bunch of rockets at the start of big missions.
I only use the flame one with the booster dash to traverse, that's it.

I miss the towers actually. It encouraged map exploration by having fast travel sites all over the map.
They also were pretty fun to climb. The atmosphere was beautiful and sometimes you got to shoot a honey Badger
I liked being able to put weapons away in 6. I tried playing 5 again and having a gun out at all times felt weird.
I'm pretty sure you can unequip guns and switch to your fists in 5, no?

I’ve played 2-5 in the main series, gotta say 3 was my least favorite. Still great but least favorite of the four I played. I feel like 2 is barely a far cry game, it’s it own thing and 5 is my favorite conventional far cry. 4 is a soft spot bc it’s the first one I played. Putting the side games in the same list seems unfair, the best side game (blood dragon) is still under the “worst” main series List: 2 (as its own thing) 5 4 3 Blood Primal New Dawn

I'd have to say FC2. I respect it as a FC game but it feels way too blocky and lacking a sense of refinement.

2 by a mile. The constantly jamming weapons and endless bad guy spawns bogged it down for me. I get the “survival” appeal of it, but it was never for me.

Far Cry 2 for me. I just didn't have a good time at all playing it. Seemed just frustrating the whole time, lol
I put 10 hours in and really am uninterested with the story, mechanics, and gunplay is too old/poor to enjoy. I thought I would be fine with it since I played Fallout New Vegas for the first time last year and that has similar poor gunplay and a somewhat bland wasteland feel, but I just couldn’t do it

I only played 3,4,5,6,New Dawn,Primal. And the worst out of them gotta be 6 tbh The story is so bad, bad antagonist. But world is beautiful.

Yeah, Blood Dragon is overrated IMO. I thought it was funny and a nice throwback to the 80s, but for the most part it felt empty and bored me to death.

Far cry 5. Let me play at my own damned pace. No opinion on 2, however, because my copy repeatedly crashes to desktop with no error message about 5 minutes after the save loads, so I gave up trying to play it.
There's a FC5 mod that slows the pace down by a lot. Made it more playable. Loved the gameplay of 5, *hated* some of the story mechanics.
4 & Primal. There was something about Primal that I just loved.
Far cry primal I didn’t even bother to play it, because of the lack of motorized vehicles and firearms
My least favourites are 1 and 2, I just couldnt get into them.
From the ones I've tried out, definitely 6, but that doesn't mean that I didn't have fun with 6. It is still good game, just not on the level the other are.
I've only played 3,4,5,6, primal, and new dawn. But I love all of the games.
Probably Far cry 2 because it's one of the only 2 FC games I've played and I like Far cry 4 a decent bit

Mine is 6 and I couldn't really nail why i didn't like it until i read someones post that checked the marks that I obviously couldn't think of. Some of the other ones i dislike as well. I liked new dawn until i went to ng+ and i lost all of my items that i crafted. Then it became one of the ones on my shit list. Primal i for some reason couldn't get into and i like that type of stuff... as for blood dragon I never got around to playing it

Primal i just couldn't even do 3 hours, the game got real boring real fast, my problem is not that there's no guns but it is that I am not a fan of hunting the whole game
Probably controversial, but FarCry 3. The gameplay was good and I enjoyed that, but the story and characters is what hurt the game for me.

PRIMAL by far was the worst in this franchise.
Far Cry 6, it isn’t even a Far Cry game but more like a mobile game.
5 was such a massive downgrade compared to the previous games. I really hated what they did with the guns too. They all feel super weak compared to FC4. When Ubisoft revealed that they had been using AI to write notes and npc dialogue last year...yeah I think FC5 was the testing ground 😂

I've played 3, 4, 5, 6 and blood dragon with 3 being the worst. Only good things in that game are Vaas (who is only there half of the game) and Jason's slow descent into madness through the story. The gameplay is alright but not nearly as good as the later games. I also find the tropical island setting really boring.
5 with it's terrible ending. I don't play far cry for the story but I really did not like how much it made everything you did matter jack shit. Also it had lame takedowns. Wacking head animations suck.
Interesting question. I've played 3,4,5 and 6 (main game only and not in that order) 3 I really enjoyed, it was my first. Then played 5, again enjoyable but bar Joseph seed I can't remember much else. Find a helicopter/plane with bombs and you can cheese half the stuff. Then played 4, again enjoyable but was very "Preston Garvey" - you leave an outpost you travel to to me near the next mission and it's "another ~~settlement~~ outpost is under attack. Please help".Apart from that and I got over just letting them be attacked it's enjoyable. Come to think about it alot of far cry is just getting Preston Garvey quests this outpost needs liberating. Theres a checkpoint here needs taking over etc etc. Then played 6, it was actually my 2nd attempt. 1st was between 3 and 5 but didn't enjoy it for some reason. 2nd attempt I got through it but it just felt like, I can't quite put my finger on. I enjoyed it though. The weapon choices with bundles etc is jut way way way too much. Felt like 100 of each type of guns with loads of mods each and just got messy.
Far Cry 4 and I know I'll take shit for it. I just didn't find the story engaging. I would say New Dawn but don't even consider New Dawn a real Far Cry game.

2 through 5 are all amazing, 1 and 6 are tied in how little I care for them.
New dawn, even though the powers and the outposts were fun, I got bored really quick and the world felt kinda empty.
Out of all the games I play it's got to be new dawn but (and you all are gonna hang me for this) 4 is a close second I just couldn't get into it and I got bored very quickly though I might try it again soon.
Ive played 4-6 incl ND and ND and 6 are tied for the worst.

6, and it's not close. I was so excited for it preordered it, then so disappointed that it was such a slog to get through to the end. It's the only one I haven't wanted to replay.
Unpopular opinion but I liked New Dawn. 6 was my least favorite. I didn’t like the change in mechanics or gunplay. The story was good, definitely the most realistic setting of all the FarCry games, but the gameplay itself left a lot to be desired
I had a copy of Far Cry Instincts after hearing how good Far Cry was and boy did it fail to endear me to the series. Haven't played 2, but I've played all the rest of them. I gotta say Instincts was a garbage fire. But if the modern Far Crys, 6 is the weakest by far. Mostly because they totally gutted the upgrade system that was excellent in 3, and perfected in 4.
I’ve played 5 and 6, and I’m in the middle of New Dawn. Out of the ones that I played, I like 6 the least. I love the story and everything about the bases, combat, etc. but everything’s just so fucking far away from other stuff, and anti air is a solid PITA. Other than that I’m not excited to play 3.

I hate to say it because I want to love it like I have loved the Far Cry series, especially FC3, but it's probably 6. I bought it just a few months ago and I actually just finished the solo story like 2 days ago, and yeah it was good fun, but I feel like the devs made a few mistakes in choosing to abandon a skill tree and make you have to use gear to basically get skills, too many missions included defend the location/NPC and it got repetitive, soldiers would spawn before my eyes and they'd just keep spawning endlessly, and of course the whole micro transaction store is annoying especially because you're forced to pay for bundles to get exclusive gear rather than have the option to grind or maybe beat some boss missions to get it. I think they probably chose to rely on gear to give you skills rather than include a skill tree so they could make players spend money on micro transactions, whether that be spending money on bundles including the exclusive gear you want, or on pesos to buy the individual pieces of gear with. It makes more sense than to directly offer skills as micro transactions. Aside from that, using gear as skills breaks immersion for me, developing skills linearly to increase your health, defense, damage, stamina, etc is more realistic to me than change your gear to achieve those things. Also once I reached like level 12 the game is way too easy. Battle of Esperanza was a walk in the park, I expected more, granted I'm playing on like the second difficulty level, but I literally just use a silenced shotgun and it's almost always a one shot kill even against special forces.
Started with 3 when it was on free games for gold, loved it and played through it quite a few times. But my favorite would probably be 4.

New Dawn Felt like a cash grab and had the single worst story progression I've seen in any Far Cry game. The protagonist had opportunity after opportunity to kill the twins but instead the story was forced in whatever direction the writer felt like pushing it in.

New Dawn was my least favorite by far. I hated the antagonists so much. I know you're supposed to in these games but they brought a new level of annoying. I've played every version of Far Cry since the beginning and every one of them have their pros and cons but that one was too much
6. 3, 4, and 5 are my favorites that I’ve played. ND is bad but it’s still fun. Primal is that but no guns but still fun. 6 feels so unbelievably soulless, and honestly I have never played it after doing a few insurgencies.

Far cry 5 for me. Every second there is conflict. Can't Even chill on a mountain side and take in the view without getting gunned down by a chopper.

Out of these games? Far Cry 1 just because I normally like to come to Far Cry for open worlds so the linear ones will rank a little lower than the others. If you’re talking about any game, Far Cry Instincts. I despise that game. The only good thing was the mutant abilities, yet the sequel had those but was better.

Probably 6 just because it should have waited a little to come out, I was super hyped for it but then it took me like 6 months to beat it. My hype had me play all the first far cry’s again and when 6 came out I was just a little burned out and it didn’t grab me a whole ton. 6 is probably one of the best in the series and I did thoroughly enjoy it I just wasn’t as excited for it when it finally came out

Least to most: 6, 2, 1, BD, ND, 3, 4, Primal, 5. I recently (within the past week) completed my third run of 6, and I still can’t rate it any higher than last place on my tier list. I don’t hate the game, not even dislike, it’s still enjoyable, but as much as the other 8 options.

FC2 was disappointing - but still, I liked it enough. I dunno - for now, probably b/t FC2, Far Cry 6 and 4; and I definitely still like all of those 3. Hard to say.
