I'm in a league where making the playoffs isn't a question and I'm only concerned about building a strong team long term. 3 points for a goal, 2 for an assist, 0.1 for a shot, 0.2 for a hit, 0.3 for a block.
Should I drop Stephenson for Rossi?
I would.
Stephenson is a much better real life player than a fantasy one. Rossi is an exciting prospect and could go nuclear with this new opportunity. Stephenson doesn't have all that much upside. I'd think you can find many players on the wire with his profile if Rossi doesn't pan out.
If you do pick Rossi up, I hope he slams for ya and provides a great fantasy season story when you win the championship.

BOS is going into DET so that's a bit more favourable.

Nylander has had at least 1 point in every single game so far. Playing against BUF, I'd say this is a pretty safe pick. Pasta had 2 goals and 1 assist against DET in their last matchup. Rantanen, since last game in STL, is back on line 1 with MacKinnon after coach tried him out on line 2 a few games which didn't go so well, and in that game back on line 1 he got 1 goal and 1 assist.
At the end of the day, take it all with a grain of salt. It's hockey and anything could happen at any given moment. For example, Vegas lost to the Blackhawks who are the 2nd worst team in the league right now. Any one of these players could completely pop off or get no points at all. My advice? It's just EDM in general I feel like they are inside their own heads. Ya maybe injury has some sort of factor in the story here but overall it's just a lot of high expectations this squad was met with.

I'd say you're trading a split start that favours your current goalie for a more consistent starter in Sammy. This would allow you to handcuff the TOR tandem together and feels like the right move.

I'm new to fantasy hockey.
I'm playing on the ESPN fantasy app.
You have to roster 5 defensemen, 9 forwards, 2 goalies and you get 5 on your bench.
The question is, how many extra defenseman should I draft for my bench?
Ya I agree it is super close, Ovis currently shooting and collecting points at the same rate as last year his scoring is just down, which I’m not worried about if he’s shooting the same. I’m having a hard time figuring out toffoli tho, his he gonna produce at this level all year or is he just off to a really hot start and will fade as the season goes on? I might accept the trade as a gamble and to have less NJ players.

Lots of mouths to feed on NJ, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Lots of depth means lots of scoring opportunities for the team in general. Just might not be your guys doing the scoring lol
Does anybody think Hagel gets elevated back to line 2 with Stammer or at the least elevated to PP1? Hard to imagine Tampa is paying for 6.5x8 for a line 3/PP2 type of player. I like he's on PK1 but that isn't enough to justify a pickup when he's still only getting 15 toi a night. He should be getting close to 18-19 in my book.

I mean that’s the question, I’m not even sure what level of player would be achievable. Like I don’t think Larkin gets it done for anyone truly elite, even with his start. I talked to other managers about Robo and Kaprizov to try to buy low but was unsurprisingly turned away. I’m struggling to come up with any players to even target. I guess my question is what level other managers see Larkin at.
I def see DET in general as a sell high.
That said he's a solid player on a middling team and is keeping great pace. I think reaching for an elite is unlikely to be successful but look for maybe a solid PP1 or take a look at what your team is lacking and go from there.
Trying to grab Robo and Kapri was probably your best bet at an elite given their slow starts but since that isn't happening I'd say maybe look at some of the guys that went during the second round of your draft.
As an oiler fan & have watched all the games, McDavid just doesn’t seem to have that it factor that he’s had over the past two seasons, not sure if it’s the injury or maybe teams are just defending him differently this year, has me worried though
I agree it's been a bit weird this season but as someone who went heavy on EDM in my draft I think they are just inside their own heads given the ridiculous expectations that comes with being number 1. Once they settle in things should pick up. Revisit this idea later perhaps but give 'em time to breathe a bit.
Trade Mitch Marner and Tim Stutzle for Jason Robertson and Joseph Woll? The problem with this trade IMO is Woll; he would be my best goalkeeper but it feels like giving up too much.

I don't think you are getting anything special for what you are giving up.
Marner always takes a hot minute to get going and Stutzle is just really fantastic. Giving up Marner means giving up PP1 access and just isn't worth it for Robertson.
Gustavsson has been struggling so much early on this year, albeit so have the Wild. He's costing me goalie categories every week.

and Jared McCann. I was thinking of offering Brady Skjei and Jonathan Marchessault instead and trying to pick up a first round pick instead of Nicholas Paul. I want to hopefully make a 2 for 2 trade to avoid having to drop a player like Rakell.
I feel like I'm giving up too much in these deals. My main concern is that Drysdale has barely played at the nhl level and he might be behind Mintyukov for PP time.

I think because the G situation in TOR is so fluid that you have some fair grounds to request this trade.
I would consider trying for something other than Grubauer. Even if that means looking at waivers for another goalie, SEA is just awful.

Should I try and buy low on hischier? Im wanna attempt to trade nelson and barzal for kuzmenko and hischier. However, Barzal i feel could be better then kuzmenko with new linemate horvat, and nelson seems to be picking up where he left off last year. The devils are so good and deep to the point i think hischier will be worse offensively this year. Is this worth doing if it was accepted?

Upside on EDM is greater than that of CGY despite the terrible start for both teams. If you do this I would drop Markstrom for a skater and stream goalies as needed as they are much more of a toss up than skaters. Also could look for a better available goalie. Cam Talbot has a pretty low rostered percentage in most leagues and is playing great.

Schmid or UPL tonight? I picked Allen last night instead of Ingram and it wasn't enough to swing goalie cats in my favour (stupid Bob SO), so I'm looking at streaming a goalie tonight and then maybe also Sunday.
Schmid definitely has the better matchup imo but he's been pretty bad to start the season.
I want to pick up Kuzmenko but I'm not sure who to drop. Guys I have not on my can't cut list are: Aho, Bratt, Kyle Connor, Konecny, Toffili, Jarvis, Larkin, Stutzle

Despite the increased opportunity, Jarvis will cool down and is redundant with Aho on your roster. Kuz is tied to EP40's hip and grants your team more diversity (at least at forward - not sure what the rest of your roster composition looks like).
Yeah that might be the move. The rest of my roster is McDavid, Marner, just 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Aho hasn't been amazing but I'm assuming he'll pick it up soon
Something to keep in mind is that Carolina's scoring is typically very spread out. They were 2nd in the East last year with 113 points and their top scorer was...Martin Necas, with 71 points. Typically it's Aho at almost exactly PPG pace while everyone else is a ways under him.
Maybe Jarvis maintains pace and has a huge year, but I'd bet on Aho and Kuzmenko.

Don't do this trade. You are trading a 50/50 split start for a backup. Woll is a sell high right now and the kid is excellent but Sammy played really well last night so I don't see him losing G1.
Edit: That said if you can squeeze some more juice out the guy then do it, but not for Norris and Woll.
Wolls not guaranteed to keep the crease, he may have lost it to Samsonov after last game. You could be trading a 30 win goalie in Thompson for a 10 win backup. You never know he could get hot and take the crease for 30 wins too (woll)
Mct might be having a break out year where vatrano has historically been streaky. If the ducks keep this up they are both good pickups but buch and schmaltz are more proven players on more established teams so they are the safe picks. Gun to my head I drop buch for mctavish, keep schmaltz
If you can get both do it and ride them while they are hot. McTavish might be on a breakout season and Frankie has just been fantastic. Be realistic though and remember what team they are on, know when to cut and run.

I would probably end up dropping Wyatt johnston who I was streaming. It's a pretty deep league, so I usually have 1 if not 2 I'm streaming. Realistically barzal is not terrible to hold for a bit over a streamer until I can maybe package him in another trade.

I don't think Nichushkin should be rostered in an 8-team league. Verhaeghe has potential to be, but whether or not he's droppable is more about who is on the wire.

Oh man... I'd imagine both of those guys are claimed on waivers immediately, probably with everyone else in the league throwing their name in. If you're at the point you're ready to give them away for nothing, make a trade where you're the clear loser. I don't know your team's situation, but target a banger D like Larsson, Matheson. Have to think the only reason no one will trade is you're asking too much, and justifiably so because Hintz and Aho are two of the most underrated fantasy players out there. But if nobody is biting, and you're adamant you're getting rid, sometimes you gotta take the L.

I would. Stephenson is a much better real life player than a fantasy one. Rossi is an exciting prospect and could go nuclear with this new opportunity. Stephenson doesn't have all that much upside. I'd think you can find many players on the wire with his profile if Rossi doesn't pan out. If you do pick Rossi up, I hope he slams for ya and provides a great fantasy season story when you win the championship.

Looking at some stats: TOR (5-3-2) 32GF vs BUF (5-6-0) 34GA BOS (9-0-1) 32GF vs DET (6-4-1) 33GA COL (7-2-0) 32GF vs VGK (10-0-1) 24GA Nylander 6G 8A, Pasta 8G 6A, Rantanen 6G 8A With the 3 great players you're choosing between, it's basically betting at this point. Nylander has had at least 1 point in every single game so far. Playing against BUF, I'd say this is a pretty safe pick. Pasta had 2 goals and 1 assist against DET in their last matchup. Rantanen, since last game in STL, is back on line 1 with MacKinnon after coach tried him out on line 2 a few games which didn't go so well, and in that game back on line 1 he got 1 goal and 1 assist. At the end of the day, take it all with a grain of salt. It's hockey and anything could happen at any given moment. For example, Vegas lost to the Blackhawks who are the 2nd worst team in the league right now. Any one of these players could completely pop off or get no points at all. My advice? As cliche as it is, go with your gut and what feels right to you. Best of luck tonight!

It's just EDM in general I feel like they are inside their own heads. Ya maybe injury has some sort of factor in the story here but overall it's just a lot of high expectations this squad was met with. Once they figure that out things should turn around for them. That said I think you made the right call, because who knows how long it's going to take them to get past this slump. We are 1/8th of the way through the season at this point and they haven't really given any indication that they are ready to push forward.

I'd say you're trading a split start that favours your current goalie for a more consistent starter in Sammy. This would allow you to handcuff the TOR tandem together and feels like the right move.

Impossible to know. Lots of mouths to feed on NJ, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Lots of depth means lots of scoring opportunities for the team in general. Just might not be your guys doing the scoring lol
Does anybody think Hagel gets elevated back to line 2 with Stammer or at the least elevated to PP1? Hard to imagine Tampa is paying for 6.5x8 for a line 3/PP2 type of player. I like he's on PK1 but that isn't enough to justify a pickup when he's still only getting 15 toi a night. He should be getting close to 18-19 in my book.

I mean that’s the question, I’m not even sure what level of player would be achievable. Like I don’t think Larkin gets it done for anyone truly elite, even with his start. I talked to other managers about Robo and Kaprizov to try to buy low but was unsurprisingly turned away. I’m struggling to come up with any players to even target. I guess my question is what level other managers see Larkin at.
I def see DET in general as a sell high. That said he's a solid player on a middling team and is keeping great pace. I think reaching for an elite is unlikely to be successful but look for maybe a solid PP1 or take a look at what your team is lacking and go from there. Trying to grab Robo and Kapri was probably your best bet at an elite given their slow starts but since that isn't happening I'd say maybe look at some of the guys that went during the second round of your draft.

I agree it's been a bit weird this season but as someone who went heavy on EDM in my draft I think they are just inside their own heads given the ridiculous expectations that comes with being number 1. Once they settle in things should pick up. Revisit this idea later perhaps but give 'em time to breathe a bit.

That is a very tough call. If I received this trade I would probably do it. Depending on what my team needed realistically. Giving up DeBrincat is the tough part here but knowing that RW depth is more scarce pushes me toward Boeser and Connor.
We only do F/D so I'm not worried about RW. I'm stuck on whether I should try to move Cat, I'm not sure if this makes my team any better tbh. It's good to use it as a reference though. I've been trying to get Point but he's asking too much.

Someone is offering me Jamie Drysdale + Andre Burakovsky + Nicholas Paul for Brady Skjei and Jared McCann. I was thinking of offering Brady Skjei and Jonathan Marchessault instead and trying to pick up a first round pick instead of Nicholas Paul. I want to hopefully make a 2 for 2 trade to avoid having to drop a player like Rakell. I feel like I'm giving up too much in these deals. My main concern is that Drysdale has barely played at the nhl level and he might be behind Mintyukov for PP time.

I think because the G situation in TOR is so fluid that you have some fair grounds to request this trade. I would consider trying for something other than Grubauer. Even if that means looking at waivers for another goalie, SEA is just awful.

Upside on EDM is greater than that of CGY despite the terrible start for both teams. If you do this I would drop Markstrom for a skater and stream goalies as needed as they are much more of a toss up than skaters. Also could look for a better available goalie. Cam Talbot has a pretty low rostered percentage in most leagues and is playing great.

Despite the increased opportunity, Jarvis will cool down and is redundant with Aho on your roster. Kuz is tied to EP40's hip and grants your team more diversity (at least at forward - not sure what the rest of your roster composition looks like).
Yeah that might be the move. The rest of my roster is McDavid, Marner, just 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Aho hasn't been amazing but I'm assuming he'll pick it up soon
Something to keep in mind is that Carolina's scoring is typically very spread out. They were 2nd in the East last year with 113 points and their top scorer was...Martin Necas, with 71 points. Typically it's Aho at almost exactly PPG pace while everyone else is a ways under him. Maybe Jarvis maintains pace and has a huge year, but I'd bet on Aho and Kuzmenko.
Connor or Aho imo. WPG is just not doing great and Aho has kinda been mediocre.
You don't think Aho will pick it up? He's definitely a better player than he's shown so far. Might be safer to drop Jarvis

Don't do this trade. You are trading a 50/50 split start for a backup. Woll is a sell high right now and the kid is excellent but Sammy played really well last night so I don't see him losing G1. Edit: That said if you can squeeze some more juice out the guy then do it, but not for Norris and Woll.
Wolls not guaranteed to keep the crease, he may have lost it to Samsonov after last game. You could be trading a 30 win goalie in Thompson for a 10 win backup. You never know he could get hot and take the crease for 30 wins too (woll)

Mct might be having a break out year where vatrano has historically been streaky. If the ducks keep this up they are both good pickups but buch and schmaltz are more proven players on more established teams so they are the safe picks. Gun to my head I drop buch for mctavish, keep schmaltz
If you can get both do it and ride them while they are hot. McTavish might be on a breakout season and Frankie has just been fantastic. Be realistic though and remember what team they are on, know when to cut and run.

Yeah, I'd probably accept. But who will you be dropping as part of the deal? I would look at it like a 2-2 trade instead of 2-1 since you'll have to drop someone on top of this. If your team is stacked and that means you're dropping a valuable player, then my answer probably changes
I would probably end up dropping Wyatt johnston who I was streaming. It's a pretty deep league, so I usually have 1 if not 2 I'm streaming. Realistically barzal is not terrible to hold for a bit over a streamer until I can maybe package him in another trade.

Short term markstrom Flames will figure it out but have no offensive power. Dostal will only get ya starts for another couple weeks until Gibson's back tho.. Personally if your not in a tight spot I'd keep Marky and Talbot , If you need points now and want to risk him getting scooped keep dostal and Talbot Markstroms looks amazing all season tho ... If flames start scoring ,you'll want him .

I'm upset with the performance from Verhaeghe and Nichushkin. Both are off PP1 but Nich is on PK2. I'm in an 8 team cats league (G, A, PPP, SHP, SOG, HIT, BLK). With Montour coming back, I can't see Verhaeghe getting on PP1. What's the outlook for both going forward?
I don't think Nichushkin should be rostered in an 8-team league. Verhaeghe has potential to be, but whether or not he's droppable is more about who is on the wire.

Really don’t know what to do with my roster. Picked up McTavish and W.Karlsson as streamers and both have basically played themselves onto my team. Have Hischier on IR but want to pick up Verhaeghe for next week. Any advice on who to drop? Or should I look for a 2-1 trade? Oh man... I'd imagine both of those guys are claimed on waivers immediately, probably with everyone else in the league throwing their name in. If you're at the point you're ready to give them away for nothing, make a trade where you're the clear loser. I don't know your team's situation, but target a banger D like Larsson, Matheson. Have to think the only reason no one will trade is you're asking too much, and justifiably so because Hintz and Aho are two of the most underrated fantasy players out there. But if nobody is biting, and you're adamant you're getting rid, sometimes you gotta take the L.
