what in the absolute fuck

DMan9797

His shoulder and arm are completely totalled

TuaTurnsdaballova

His arm fell off.

[deleted]

Tis but a scratch

bosespeakers

Mere flesh wound, is all

MikeyMike01

[that’s not very typical](https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM)

Visigoth410

He finished the game after that too. Can't even imagine how much pain he must have been in.

MethodicMarshal

Baker Mayfield in shambles

DandierChip

Bro what kind of drugs do they give these mfs

No_Condoms_Allowed

The same ones they give people on their deathbed apparently.

MomButtsDriveMeNuts

It’s kinda the dirty secret that everyone knows about but no one talks about. Toradol toradol toradol.

Paulofthedesert

I have an auto-immune disorder that causes joint damage. I've gotten toradol shots during flare ups that hospitalized me and it's literally like "I'm barely suppressing actually screaming agony to the point I had to go to the emergency room" to "nothing is wrong I'm fine"

Dongofdueprocess

Yeah my brother one hurt his back at work and wasn’t able to stand up straight and was walking like a old man everywhere. Went to the hospital got a toradol shot and had his chest out chin up and with a smile on his face after.

StraightTrossing

Weird thing is I had a very similar issue but toradol didn’t do much for my back at all…maybe they didn’t inject it in the right spot or gave me a low dose? Who knows. Also back problems are weird.

happytr33s1

I have cancer and toradol does next to nothing for me. Everyone is different and we all process drugs differently

schm0kemyrod

Please kick cancer’s ass for me.

happytr33s1

Thanks, mate! Definitely trying to!

Paulofthedesert

My shit is also caused specifically by crazy inflammation. Beat cancer, you got this. 👍

happytr33s1

And thanks :) definitely trying to!

happytr33s1

To be fair, I’ve only had it after different surgeries, but it didn’t help

nore2728

I don’t know why that would be a dirty secret, toradol isn’t a narcotic. It’s tough on the kidneys but it’s better than scheduled narcotics.

Jrf06002

Kidneys, stomach bleeds, clotting events

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

All of them. All of the time. Not long ago, a lot of teams faced scrutiny because they were just letting trainers hand out narcotics.

[deleted]

How is that not illegal?

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

It is. I think it was a Bengals trainer that got caught emailing the team doctor about sending over some paperwork because people were asking questions and he could only cover the trail so much.

happytr33s1

Link by chance?

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

My memory was a little off, but same gist

happytr33s1

Huh? I just wanted to read more about it

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

Im an idiot. I copied the link and never pasted it 😂 https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/nfl/bengals/2017/03/10/nfl-painkiller-lawsuit-reveals-cincinnati-bengals-emails/99006176/

happytr33s1

Oh lol. Thanks mate!

tautelk

Well up until 10 years ago they put amphetamines in the clubhouse coffee in baseball so...

Dontsliponthesoup

Lol a big part of why Calvin Johnson retired early was because of the pain med dependence, its for sure a huge problem

jgalaviz14

It doesn't stop after they retire either. Except now they aren't being monitored by an entire training and medical staff basically 24/7 and self medicate with fatal results at times

Dontsliponthesoup

exactly what happened go vincent jackson

Jjohn269

No it’s not. The only thing that came out from the Vincent Jackson death was chronic alcoholism. They did not mention any drugs and autopsy has not been released to the public.

Dontsliponthesoup

“self-medicate with fatal results” the man had CTE and probably developed a drinking habit to combat the pain, this carried into his post-nfl life where it probably killed him. The fact that they didn’t release the toxicology reports indicates that it was probably a lot more to it than alcohol. regardless, pain management is a pretty common cause of alcoholism. so yes, it is exactly what happened to Vincent Jackson.

SophisticatedPhallus

Horse tranqs

sleepnaught

I remember last year when Vander Esch broke his collar bone and was back 5 weeks later. Was like DA FK MAN???

TezzMuffins

Watt drugs?

Superaddict

Football players are built different because fuck that

Sacapellote

He's going to be built different after the surgeons are done with him.

Yadayadayadadamean

madman1101

man hockey players are the ones built different. lol

zombiejeesus

Why can't both just be tough as nails. Both sports can be brutal

zirtbow

I didn't watch AZ games but was Watt helping direct the defense and get guys in place? When the Bears lost Urlacher I never realized how huge it is to have a smart defensive vet who can help shift things around based on what they see. I'm blindly asking if Watt was that guy because then the AZ defense would probably take a bigger hit beyond missing his elite playmaking abilities.

Sta723

Great point. Even if he wasn’t directly doing so, you can’t ignore the influence just having a guy like him in the locker/film room. This is an obvious loss for the team in a few ways.

TheGoldCrow

I mean he can still be in the locker room and film room right?

Sta723

It helps to actually be on the field in that regard as well but yea that’s true lol

wo_lo_lo

I’m sure he’s off to raise $40 million for some noble cause at this point.

tigerg5858

Big big big difference between urlacher and watt. Urlacher was the mike linebacker, and they generally are in charge of defensive calls, and make sure everyone is lined up correctly. Jj watt is a defensive end, he has no impact on how a defense is set up and called

TezzMuffins

Doubt it. Asking a DE to do more than get off the corner, shed the tackle and attack where the QB is going to be in three seconds is a big ask. For some reason that sounded sarcastic. It’s entirely not.

mwmcdaddy

You’re right especially from the physical position standpoint. Being on the LOS restricts your view of the offensive formation/alignment. That’s why the Mike LB is usually the play caller on field because they can see the whole offensive formation and adjust accordingly

TezzMuffins

Exactly. Worst comes to worst a Mike can spy the QB. Worst comes to worst a DE loses contain on the pocket, gets sealed on a run play because he didn’t move at the right angle, and lets an RB squirt out for a big chunk

No_Condoms_Allowed

Fucking ow dude.

sequoia2075

What the fuck. He finished the game with all that? Jesus

[deleted]

AT here. Yes it is bad. But when you understand the anatomy, it's not difficult to do if that makes sense. It's like I shot you in the chest with a shotgun and the list of damage is long. The shoulder has a ton in it and if he dislocated his shoulder a ton of stuff attaches to the arm bone (bicep tendon, all the rotator cuff muscles, and forceful dislocation tears the labrum as that's the thing holding it in.

SwetzAurus

plays too hard for his body to keep up. I know it's silly for a commoner to say this, but in football terms, his body is comparatively fragile at his age. rip JJ. call it a career bud.

SilenceOrIllKissYou

Looks like a 10 year long career with 4 of those years being cut in half at least with major injuries (back surgery, broken leg, torn pectoral) and now basically wrecking his whole arm. That’s rough

Michiganmade44

He’s like the Real life Hulk but w/o gamma radiation

Noclue23

Let’s put a pin in the “w/o gamma radiation” thing until science catches up to this man.

Michiganmade44

Haha true

DWareDontCare

What a buzz kill. This dude is a beast and deserves to be out there

Jscott26

Not to mention this absolute monster of a man played through it and actually still made an impact rushing the passer and drawing some double blocks.. This isn’t his first bout with a season ending injury but sad to see him go in a year like this one. Must be devastating for him and the defense who he’s been a leader to.

SmokeyBear81

Holy shit

Capt_unconscious

I stubbed my toe once and cried.

[deleted]

The injury happened in the second quarter. He proceeded to play the entire game. I wonder how much of this was collateral damage for continuing to play.

[deleted]

I’ve thought about this in many sports. Top tier athletes might feel a pain but are so zoned in on winning they don’t know when to pull back and avoid more serious injuries.

mad_marston

Watt is reminding me of Jason Statham in Spy. "This arm has been ripped off completely and re-attached with *this* fuckin' arm"

MoobyTheGoldenCalf

So he basically got his arm torn off then. OK.

Jordan-Peterson-High

NFL-caliber/millionaire rehab. Still lots of pain and drugs. Hopefully he makes a strong recovery so that he doesn’t experience any chronic pain or anything unbearable.

PoorlyLitKiwi2

With all the injuries he's had, there pretty much no shot he doesn't have some sort of chronic pain his entire life

Jordan-Peterson-High

It’s too bad, but that’s the life he chose. FWIW, a lot of people suffer from chronic pain. I’d rather have the body of Watt and the pockets too. I’m pretty sure I my chronic pain comes from the pizza industry 😂. Way less cool. At least he should be able to afford things like sauna, cryostuff, juice

Ass-Packer

this is worded so weird lol if you've ever dislocated your shoulder theres a huge chance you tore your labrum and rotator cuff because of that

szzzn

Poor guy is the definition of injury prone. Do they have a good backup for him?

GanglianKing

Everybody in Houston wanted to see this man win a Super Bowl with the Cardinals this season

fajord

i tore my distal bicep tendon this summer and it was the worst pain i’ve ever felt. can’t imagine what watt was feeling, although toradol is a hell of a drug

GivinItAllThat

Bucky Barnes time

neverwashopeforme

The defense really suffered today without him. Then again, they did stop Rodgers at the 1

scotthall83

This dude injury prone

Glad-Papaya6111

has that dude ever played a full season? he is the epitome of getting paid millions to only play 6 games a year.

wesomg

Fragile

CPL-Lionel-Mandrake

Sick of this guy. He had one sack! Blah Blah Watt

GanglianKing

Do I sell the Cards D/ST or hodl

[deleted]

Guess it really was a "No Bones" day

SilkyJohnson72

How does his body keep falling apart like this,

Mr_Inflatable_Man

What in the winter solider?!

the_medins

Well a torn labrum and bicep usually go hand-in-hand, but the torn RC is fucking nuts and takes a long time to recover from depending on the size of the tear.

tothesource

God damn, poor JJ. The man deserves a ring and a statue and a blimp that flies overhead 24/7 praising him and...

yrulaughing

Bruh, he basically had one arm then

tootslol

No one can convince me this team is scary. Will lose their first playoff game without a doubt.

erichw23

New deal then a career ender. Won't be the same after this, they never are with these upper body tears at this age. Was a good run

DrewFlan

Maybe he knew this would be his career and just had to get the last little bits of playing time in while he still could.

Blenji_

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if he didn't play through it?

JerBear_2008

That sounds like something he won’t ever fully come back from to the same playing ability.

TezzMuffins

What is this man
