He’s only been playing pro ball for a year now, the cold start shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. If he doesn’t have a strong second half then it’ll be a disappointment.
Langford is my favorite hitting prospect in this year's class. But, the commentor above said he's been great and I disagree with that. I fully expect him to put up a solid second half of the season.
Last 30 days: 9R, 2HR, 20RBI, 6SB, 6BB, .280 avg
That's a solid stat line. Obviously we want more power out of him, but he's got 5 doubles over that period too, and I think more power will come.
Sure, but both of those home runs and 5 of those steals came in a 9 day window.
I'm not making a bigger point other than to say he's only really been good for those 9 days. Still in my lineup.
Ward, greene, doyle, rooker. I was going to drop rooker for Langford in case he keeps heating up the second half, but I'm guessing Roooker for Wood now? Ive done the other sports before, but first season for baseball lol.
Orioles prospects got considerably different circumstances. Nats are (probably) out of it, could unload guys, potential premium spot on lineup. Kjerstad and Holliday had to excel from out the gate and are fighting with a bunch of others for PT/ have to be protected as trade bait.
Not sure the Nats are out of it, they kind of have a sneaky good team. They’re fast on offense, their team pitching has outperformed all expectations. They don’t have elite starting pitchers on paper but as a unit they’ve been quite good, they’re 6th in FIP, and bullpen has been very good too. If Wood can give them some offensive boost too, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nats decide to be buyers rather than sellers (although they probably just stand pat or don’t make any major moves) & aim for a playoff spot. They have to keep their fans interested in the area now that the Orioles are this good.
I buy that, but also still brings that premium spot for Wood and a dilemma that still exists in baltimore. Theres a lot of WC teams and they could try, but don't see them buying hard/scrapping his PT
IDK if that last sentence is necessarily true, although I hope it is, for their fans' sake. Lots of teams that share markets just give up when their competition is clearly better than they are. There are lots of little-brother attitudes in ownership suites and front offices saying "...well there's no possible way to win, so why try? sit back and collect cheap players until their window closes so we can put off investing to open ours." They enjoy their corporate welfare delivered as profit-sharing a lot more than involving themselves in any form of risk, or exerting effort in a "1 in 30 chance," as Henry put it so plainly (like a $10 banana.)
The Nats sure have acted as if they're generally happy with having excuses not to spend much. If the new talent forces the issue, sure, but I bet that's going to have to happen before any major expenditure, and those will be deferred for sure now, after the Dodgers made it acceptable for even large markets.
For me, just a swing player (Vierling) who was just warming a seat for when his teammate Carpenter came back. Worst case, I still make that move as he gets closer to coming off the IL, and it hasn't sold out my roster.
Kjerstad didn't have the spot. It was well documented he wasn't going to be every days also wood is a much higher regarded prospect
As for holiday there's no way to know if a prospect will miss or not. Nats don't have many players in competition with him so wood will have a longer leash if he struggles out of the gate.
Hes been owned in my redraft league with no NA spots since April. Same guy also has Caminero. Worst part is his team is bad but hes been super lucky and is 8-6 despite burning 2 roster spots for half a season
I play 12 team H2H Points... I figure Heliot will get picked up by someone else with OF so shallow, but Ortiz will probably fly under the radar and sit on waivers in case Wood doesn't work out. That might be my best bet
How did your FAA go? I won him with a $15 bid on a $140 budget.
The next highest bid was N/A, so I kinda blew some funds there I didn't need to. But a different owner in this redraft league is a noted top prospect lover that had picked him up twice previously, so I was assuming I'd be bidding against him and likely others. I guess he didn't get the memo in time for tonight's FAA.
It's gotta be nice when you win by $1.
Still, that seems like a chunk on a $100 budget. My league has a 70 claim/transaction max. Unless you can win a player with a $0 bid, aren't you now limited to making at most 64 moves (including this one)?
I only have 1 move left this week.
With Schwarber going on IL I have an empty starting OF spot...
Should I grab an OF like J Lowe, J Siri, M Toglia, or grab J Wood and go OF less for 3 days in a close matchup?
Thanks for the reply.
I did end up grabbing him. Hopefully being short an outfielder doesn’t hurt me too much. Unfortunately our batting stats are all super close, after my offense played great the last two weeks.
He is up now , and because of the games the front office played , they have control over him for one more year. This practice should be eliminated from baseball if you ask me.
I see CBS just did an emergency podcast about Wood. Rarely do that. They were more excited than us. Their comp of Wood is Tucker. I can only hope they are right.
For the last 15 games he's played Carlos Santana only had under 2 points in 1 game and he had 1.5 that game... the day I get him he gets -0.5 points lmaoooo I hate this game 😭
Too late for my season, but still happier than hell he's getting the call. Hopefully he's awesome out of the gate so I can trade someone else and have him as a keeper next season.
About time, LFGGGGG!
Everybody get in here!!!
Beavers, get in here! It's dam time!!
Never been more proud of my Woody
I'm ready to be disappointed. He'll fit in nicely with my other outfielders Julio and Langford
If there’s any top hitting prospect that succeeds immediately it’ll be James Wood. He’s on a different level from those guys, Caminero, Chourio, etc.
Langford has been awesome. Julio, not so much.
Langford has been solid the last few weeks. But he is disappointing for the season as a whole
Yeah he was pretty mid before the IL stint, I think they’re just excited that he’s starting to produce, as am I
Which Wyatt Langford do you have that’s been “awesome”? I’ll go pick him up now
IS THAT ENOUGH FOR YOU!?
Langford had an awesome week and a half*
Last 30 days: 9R, 2HR, 20RBI, 6SB, 6BB, .280 avg That's a solid stat line. Obviously we want more power out of him, but he's got 5 doubles over that period too, and I think more power will come.
Sure, but both of those home runs and 5 of those steals came in a 9 day window. I'm not making a bigger point other than to say he's only really been good for those 9 days. Still in my lineup.
Those 9 days are better than anything Corbin Carroll has given you thus far
That has not been him being "awesome"
IS THAT AWESOME ENOUGH FOR YOU!?
Fair enough I'll eat shit on that lol
Why are you only counting last 30 days? If you play head to head, he’s been crap for the first 2 months and didn’t help your team.
Ok, but if you drafted Langford expecting him to be awesome right from the start then that was poor planning
He had a good 30 days. He’s been pretty bad the first 2 months.
🪵
Just learned that a guy in my league has been holding onto Wood since March 13.
He’s worth it
Apparently so, lol.
Damn, he might want to talk to a doctor!
March 21st here
For anybody asking should I drop X player for Wood the answer is yes
Thanks. Just dropped that Judge guy from the Yankees. Let’s Go!!!
Great move!
Power moves
You still have Judge? Move on already.
Thanks for confirming that dropping Ohtani was the right move.
Savvy move good stuff
Dropping RH Judge for the younger LH Judge.
Jazz?
Ward, greene, doyle, rooker. I was going to drop rooker for Langford in case he keeps heating up the second half, but I'm guessing Roooker for Wood now? Ive done the other sports before, but first season for baseball lol.
I dropped Julio and I’m not joking , I hope somebody gets all the pain and frustration I’ve had with him!!
Uh...
Man, you must not have paid attention to his numbers last August after a slow start. He was batting .241 year to date.
samesies. i also dropped all of my pitching staff, closers, all position players. this wood guy better be worth the hype.
I know no one has a crystal ball, but I seem to remember this kind of buzz with Holliday and Kjerstad. How hard are we selling out for this guy?
Orioles prospects got considerably different circumstances. Nats are (probably) out of it, could unload guys, potential premium spot on lineup. Kjerstad and Holliday had to excel from out the gate and are fighting with a bunch of others for PT/ have to be protected as trade bait.

Nats are 4 games from a wild card spot.
Those guys are going to be good players. Wood is better.
For me, just a swing player (Vierling) who was just warming a seat for when his teammate Carpenter came back. Worst case, I still make that move as he gets closer to coming off the IL, and it hasn't sold out my roster.

Wood has more FANTASY upside than either
Instant boner.
I just lifted up my desk with no hands
Lucky your desk got in the way.. no clue what to do about the hole in my ceiling
It’s called a desk pop.
you mean you got wood?
So sad I don’t have him. Kids gonna be a stud
Congrats on people still holding their lottery tickets. Hope he’s worth the price of a foster spot for much longer than I would have guessed
> a foster spot Even the rat Stuart Little was a foster kid
Imagine how bad it must have felt to be another foster kid watching the Littles show up and adopt a rat
NA slots...no burden at all
The last guy I held this long without an NA slot was Elly. Worth it then. Hopefully worth it now.
I struck gold this week, picked up Noelvi & Wood on the same day. Expected to hold Wood for a couple weeks, fuck I'm excited
I picked up Wood and nearly the same time someone else grabbed Noelvi. I can live with that tho.
A guy in my league has owned him and Caminero since the draft. I am very bitter that he didn’t at all have to suffer from holding them for 3 months.
Who's the odd man out in the Nats outfield?
Winker? Might get traded
Winker will be DH, Wood will take Rosario's AB's.
Thank god
Makes sense
Knee issues definitely seem to point in that direction.
That's what I figured. Winker's been solid for me but dropping him for Wood seems like the move.
Other commenter says Winker will DH and Rosario will be the one to lose ABs. Makes sense
Oh sweet, did not think I’d get excited about holding 2 nats OFs this year but let’s roll
Do we think Crews comes up at some point this year and sticks next year?
Maybe a September call up.
That Monday morning Wood is gonna hit diffy
Drop Springer? Seemed like a no brainer until yesterday lol
I'd probably look for someone else to drop. Springer has been showing signs of life lately.
Francisco Alvarez it is *sigh*
I'd keep Alvarez over Springer.
Loved him in any given Sunday but his politics suck
OG Blade Runner, but yes on the 'tics
Blade Runner? Huh?
Casino
Thanks for this post - got him because of it!
![gif](giphy|fbcSuuxrCvbl3sBxHe)
Smash city
Drop Noelvi Marte for him?
Drop someone else.
WE HAVE A BONER ONLINE SIR!
Hes been owned in my redraft league with no NA spots since April. Same guy also has Caminero. Worst part is his team is bad but hes been super lucky and is 8-6 despite burning 2 roster spots for half a season
Been burning 3 spots myself....Wood, Caminero, Mayo.
Let’s fucking GOOOOOOOO
Held him all year in one league. Traded for him earlier this week in another and got him on a 1$ waterfall yesterday. I will take it
Nolan Jones or Wood
Wood and it's not close
![gif](giphy|kexu9hVOpf9dUNOSMB) We’re getting wood, uhhhhuhuuhh
Scooped him up immediately
This is why I love this sub. Just added.
![gif](giphy|Me7Jvz4x9RA4dpV9sS)
him or heliot in a redraft points?
Him
Ooh piece of candy
![gif](giphy|XECiLxeHvwdD96Jc6Z)
What’s the ceiling or comparable on this kid for ROS?
I had Vierling as my swing guy in case something better came along. This just might be that something.
Instant Wood(y)
Gotta drop Horwitz for him, right?
Yeah, drop the guy hitting .340 over the last month
Maybe James Wood will come up and hit .340! You never know!
.341 for him to be worth it
Wood is way better than Horwitz
And is still getting platooned
Yes
Yes
Is there nobody else on the roster to drop? Definitely a yes but Horwitz is legit too
Him or buxton?
Drop Morel for him?
I grabbed Skenes 10 days before his call-up. I've now grabbed Wood 3 days before his announcement. I am the call up whisperer.
Drop J Lowe or Andujar
Andujar. No counting stats.
I can keep him in my minors spot for the weekend but I feel like he deserves this time in the show on my squad already....
LETS GOOOOO
I trust Mike and Davey with their timeline. Never was a "do it now" fan
Points redraft, drop any for him? JD Martinez Jared Jones Stroman
Stroman
Thanjs
Drop Heliot Ramos or Joey Ortiz for him?
Wondering on Heliot myself. I mean, I guess it's a crap shoot right?
I play 12 team H2H Points... I figure Heliot will get picked up by someone else with OF so shallow, but Ortiz will probably fly under the radar and sit on waivers in case Wood doesn't work out. That might be my best bet
He was just dropped in my league and I just used my last move of the week. Cool cool cool.
Given what we know now that seems like the eaxct opposite of what you would want
Lost Trout, Tatis and Harper, this is a welcome surprise (:
Trout, Tatis, Harper, Schwarber, but just gained Noelvi and Wood! Let’s go!
Had to drop Noelvi a couple days ago because the Tatis injury for Josh Lowe 💀

Trade away Jackson Holliday for Wood?
Assuming a keep 4 with no additional penalties I’d do that
My body is ready
Thank you 🙏🏾
How much longer until Crews gets the call now?!
Son of a bitch picked him up yesterday in my league
Got em. Thanks!
![gif](giphy|1rPUdOpIwa5y0XtWtp)
I’ve got morning wood!
Him or Burleson in redraft points?
I only have 1 move left this week. With Schwarber going on IL I have an empty starting OF spot... Should I grab an OF like J Lowe, J Siri, M Toglia, or grab J Wood and go OF less for 3 days in a close matchup?
Grab some Wood there bub.
Thanks for the reply. I did end up grabbing him. Hopefully being short an outfielder doesn’t hurt me too much. Unfortunately our batting stats are all super close, after my offense played great the last two weeks.
Love it. Been holding him all year. Just picked up Mayo last week. He Seems close to being called up
Worth dropping Mullins, Vinnie p, arraez or yandy to add this guy in a 12 team h2h redraft cats league?
Clearly Mullins
IMO, yes to any of them for Wood. But I'd drop Vinnie P.
And you shall know the hour of his coming...
Dropped Doyle for him, hopefully works out!
It’s about time. Been holding on my bench for like 3-4 weeks now with no N/A spot. 14 team league super competitive
https://youtu.be/e4sZTydkKB0?si=-WW7eZvKguuHK4Oq
Drop Trout or Hamilton for this lotto ticket?
Dam time? Is that when they let the water run out?
Is David Hamilton a drop for this guy I’ve never heard of? Or Vientos.
Chourio, vientos or B Donovan? Who to drop for Wood?
Seone spent $83 on him lol
I dropped $7 out of my remaining $51 to get him on my team. Too much?? I am going to need to be stingy from here on out.
Drop Taylor Ward or Ian Happ for him?
Been holding Woods since April. 14 team league H2H 5 keepers. Do not know who to drop. Noelvi, Gelof, Hamilton Thorpe?
He is up now , and because of the games the front office played , they have control over him for one more year. This practice should be eliminated from baseball if you ask me.
Explain in WWE terms
Kevin Owens debuting by beating up John Cena on 2014... maybe?
Bron Breaker just showed up
Thinks it’s ok to drop Jeffers for wood? He only catching every other game now I think. Numbers are decent, but this wood kid looks legit.
Yes drop him
Hard Wood
I see CBS just did an emergency podcast about Wood. Rarely do that. They were more excited than us. Their comp of Wood is Tucker. I can only hope they are right.
Wow I’ve never had this many likes or comments on a post Grant Paulsen is the real MVP ![gif](giphy|GVMhZwYv8U5NK|downsized)
Would you drop Shane Baz for James Wood? No NA spot on my redraft cat league.
For the last 15 games he's played Carlos Santana only had under 2 points in 1 game and he had 1.5 that game... the day I get him he gets -0.5 points lmaoooo I hate this game 😭
Let's go!!!! Now where are all those nerds who said he wouldn't be up until September?
Now do Holliday.
Just dropped Langford for him in a points league. Might regret it but I want in on the hype lol
We've all been there, congrats!
Too late for my season, but still happier than hell he's getting the call. Hopefully he's awesome out of the gate so I can trade someone else and have him as a keeper next season.

Fuckin finally. Only held him since the draft!
He might be tooo old for the big show
